The US could hide their 2006 showing because of a tough draw. But outside of a mega-slop fest draw vs Italy, they played poorly there, too.
This year, they had the draw they needed, and there's no hiding whatever the result ends up. 2 goals in 45 minutes? At this point, I'd be surprised at 2 goals in the entire World Cup.

Assuming people want to continue watching this fiasco and they are not near a TV, you can watch on the internet (legally however in Spanish) at Univision:
[5] Without a doubt...if the U.S. can't make the knockout round with this draw, when? For a country with some many athletes (and so many supposedly playing at the youth level), it's a shame they can't find enough players to field a better team. This is why soccer will never catch on in the U.S....they're simply not enough good players who are Americans.
A recess with 1st and 2nd graders entails lots of running around, mindless bickering, complaining about injuries to the powers that be, and going inside with little accomplished. Just like watching the World Cup.
The tie puts the US in good shape...they probably advance with a win over Algeria (which if they dont get, they dont belong anyway). Still, not getting the win just cost them the top seed, which is massive.
thanks for all the updates today guys. what a nice 2nd half. i will be sure to check out that mysterious 3rd goal. yahoo game cast says it was an offside, but they could be wrong.
FIFA is like boxing...too many results leave you wondering about the decision makers. It really is a disgrace for a sport that is the world's most popular.
If aybody is following on TV, would love to follow some updates and commentary. No chance to see it at work today.
Oh man, down a goal already. If the US lose, they will need a miracle to advance. They need to at least draw. What a let down.
Down 2-0 now...absent a massive comeback, the World Cup is over.
US team pulls a Knoblauch on the 2nd goal

BTW, they have all the matches.

[5] They've had 3 or 4 great chances, but didn't test the keeper one time.
Incredible goal by Donovan!! Back on life support!
[6] just got on in time to see that goal!
[10] what a shot!
Just missed the equalizer!!!
gooch, gotta get there!
Guess Coach Bradley chewed them out during halftime
Here we go now...need some sustained pressure.
Donovan is playing great right now...he needs one more teammate to join him.
Slovenia is the size of New Jersey and has 25% as many people.
Ugh.
we have no accuracy on the service apart from donovan's passes.
Dempsey's passing has been poor.
dempsey just gagged a break w/ no pressure on him at all.
Have to play this game in 5 minute chunks.

No free kick? Are you serious?
Altidore has a world of talent, but so little instinct.
altidore showed zero instinct there
william, we are in sync today
[25] U.S. seems unable to find the full package. Our players either have all athleticism or all instinct, but very little cross over.
[26] We need the U.S. to get in sync!
A more polished team with the same chances in this game would be leading Slovenia 4-2. We need Kobe!
our best chances are all coming from donovan's free kicks. only problem is that he isn't there to finish them too.
I really worry about the refs in international competition. For some, it often feels like this is their chance to stick it to the big bad U.S.
Another wasted opportunity...this team simply does not anticipate.
If they don't tie before 75, they wont win.
Howard has probably been the second best passer for the U.S. That's not a good thing.
About time with the yellow card.
Come on Donovan!
damnit!
Damn it!!! What a chance.
univision down and out. take us home william!
Frustrating...this is why you can't sleep for the first 40 minutes.
[38] Try ESPN3....they should have the feed too.
[40] 3 is blocked here.
Another yellow for Slovenia...they are simply attacking the player with the ball.
Wasteful flick on goal...just bad form.
Altidore doesn't use his body.
The ref has been awful. So bad it makes you wonder.
Meanwhile, there is a ball in the box and more US players are watching than attacking.
A third yellow for Slovenia on a challenge to Donovan.
Don't remember the game being this physical, the US is getting mugged out there
Dempsey makes little with the ball on his foot just to the right of the goal.
Donovan is in the middle now.
75 minute....US is running out of time.
Awful cross by Altidore...his play has been very subpar.
Very little urgency from the US.
all out now, guys. have to swarm the box.
Hercules Gomez coming on
goal diff doesn't matter, they'll never make it thorugh w/ only 4 points. they have to draw here. everybody up.
Altidore has been a killer on the side. He has squandered so many chances.
U.S. replaces defender with a striker.
Bradely overran a perfect pass and then put a compromised shot on goal. Should have played a pass.
Equalizer by Bradley!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yes!
gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool
Michael Bradley!!!!!
Altidore, who I have been killing, put a nice header onto Bradely's foot.
And, I believe it was Donovan who put the ball on Altidore's dome.
[60] Wow, that looked cool in Safari (went right through the margin, right off the edge of the page!)
Stay poised
But play for the win.
ok, hold on fellas
Now some good defense by Bradley.
Now how do you play it? Put a fullback in for balance, or just go for the three points?
Free kick time!
dang
Goal is disallowed by the ref...awful call. FIFA has a credibility problem.
Oh no!
What is the call? WTF??
[72] But what was the call?
Oh, that's horrible. Horrible.
The ref not only disallowed a goal, but missed a clear penalty kick for the U.S.
[73] I think he's drunk
what was the call on the not-goal? my spanish sucks
Even the announcers are taking the ref to task
[75] No doubt about it.
But of course that P-kick would never be called, because it would have just been an advantage goal.
[77] I think off sides, but te replay showed it clearly wasn't.
i can't believe i'm missing all of this.
[77] Nobody knows. (I'm listening to an American and a Brit -- the 'neutral Brit' is completely sure the ref blew the call.)
[80] But no linesman raised a flag. If the call was off-sides, that's utterly inexcusable.
[81] Jon, you know it's streaming live on ESPN3 online, right?
[83] Actually, he called a foul on the US. Ridiculous.
I said it earlier...when third world refs are involved, they always seem to have questionable calls against world power nations.
[85] the US foul was clearly "victims of muggins"
[84] yeah, i can't get it at work.
The tie would have been a reason to celebrate, but having the game stolen by the ref just sours you on the enitre tournament.
[85] Terrible. But offside would have been worse. Calling a foul could just be an honest mistake. (Joycian, you might say.)
[88] Oh, damn.
http://espn.go.com/espn3/player?id=6227&league=FIFA
Try Firefox if you haven't....
Now, here's something I always wondered. When there's a significant stoppage in stoppage time, how do they let the players know how much time is left?
The tie puts the US in good shape...they probably advance with a win over Algeria (which if they dont get, they dont belong anyway). Still, not getting the win just cost them the top seed, which is massive.
[92] They wait for the whistle....not sure why FIFA doesnt manage that better.
Oh, that's the answer. They actually don't add more time!
This is the single stupidest part of soccer, stoppage time.
Well, a fantastic game, despite the worst officiating performance of the Cup.

Well that was pretty annoying but also pretty awesome.
The worst part is the arrogant FIFA wont even acknowledge the incompetence/bias of their refs.
Missed the game, but a tie, with Slovenia? And having to rally for the tie? What's next, the Yankees dropping 2 of three to a scuffling Phillies team?
Oh, wait.
Bad show all around.
Adding insult to injury, Findley is lost for game 3 because he got a yellow card for a hand ball that actually bounced of his face.
This ref was a disgrace.
According to Donovan, the ref wouldn't even tell the players what the call was.
I haven't been this upset since Joe West ruled Cano out of the baseline in game 5 of the 2005 ALDS.
[102] Probably because he didn't know what the call was
Well, a fantastic game, despite the worst officiating performance of the Cup.
Not sure that it was even the worst officiating performance of the day.
Go back and watch Germany v Serbia
Anyways, with England
tieing failing to beat Algeria, we're back in control of our destiny on Wednesday.Worked out much better than I ever thought it could have down 2-0 at half ...
