One of my coworkers was cleaning out her old — apparently very old, as you’ll see – papers over the weekend, and she found this and brought it in for me:
As you can see, in 1987 a full, 81-game plan would set you back $750 per seat for the season, and all the plans come out to $10 per game or less for lower box seats. For that you would’ve gotten to see Lou Piniella manage the bombers to an 89-73 record, nine games behind Detroit; that was the year Mattingly set a record by hitting home runs in eight consecutive games, and also six grand slams in the season. I was too young to be paying attention back then, but I’ve heard about it enough that I feel like I was.
Put it on my Diner’s Club…
Charge mine to Duncan Hines.
19 Bucks a seat! How could they!!!!!
[2] Jeez. 7 words and I still screwed the pooch. that's $10

I love the old "Yankee Doodle Dandy" logo, with the hat and the red, white and blue colors. So much better than that bland, generic NY that you see all over the place now. So much better...
thats a reasonable price for that much Mike Pagliarulo in your life
Check out the reviews of last year's Yankee books in SABR's Baseball Journal. Didn't realize there was a Maris book. In addition, there is an excellent hot stove type article on the collapse of the 1964 Phillies, a team that featured Dick Allen, who won Rookie of the Year. I loved that team.
[6] yeah I've seen that Maris book around, unfortunately I'm just not sure how compelling a figure Raj was. Obviously the '61 stuff, but thats well covered territory (which Phil Pepe has a book coming out about in the spring).
via RAB:
Earlier today, we reported that the Yanks aren’t expecting Andy Pettitte to return, but we did say they were expecting to hear from the lefty this week. Apparently, those earlier reports were erroneous. As Brian Costello of The Post reported this afternoon, Brian Cashman said he doesn’t believe he’ll hear from Pettitte this week.
Andy, I love ya pal, but we gotta shit or get off the pot here. Lets try to figure this thing out before March Madness starts, shall we?
Breaking News:
The Rockies agreed on a seven-year, $80 million contract with outfielder Carlos Gonzalez
That looks like a very good move for Colorado.
"that was the year Mattingly set a record by hitting home runs in eight consecutive games, and also six grand slams in the season. I was too young to be paying attention back then"
Dang, Emma, you're a kid. That happened what, last week?
1987 was also the year Rickey got hurt.
Hmmm .... I don't see any e-mail address or website so I can buy my tickets on line. They want me to write an actual check? How will I cope?
