Phelps in Phlux

88144-58224-34[1]

Getting the first game of this series with the Cardinals to pop up in the win column is a pleasant surprise as the Whitley/Wacha match-up was on the scary-side for Yankee fans. More fun tonight as David Phelps seeks to pad his bonafieds for a permanent spot in the starting rotation.

Phelps is 27 years old, which is something of a shock to me every time I see his age. He’s proven to be a Major League pitcher over 27 starts and a season in the bullpen, but we’ve yet to attach a more definitive adjective to that phrase. Serviceable? Dependable? League-average? Dare I suggest, Good?

Let’s see what the warm weather has in store for him, starting tonight.

I'll jump to StL soon, but the Sox-Braves game is fun so far. Lester coughed up a homer in the first and has loaded the bases with nobody out in the second, but Harang is up so he has a shot to get out of it without too much damage...

Yep, they get a 1-2-3 GIDP. Damn, Harang not exactly helping his own cause!

Waitaminute St. Loo; I'll let you finish, but I gotta say Ded Sox-Braves is a much better game to watch...

[2] Sheesh, way to Harang us with true outcomes, Aaron!

Hooray, no ugly camo unis.

Nice catch.

I don't think I'm gonna watch the bottoms of the innings here. I know Phelps has been fairly successful as a starter, but he just drives me nuts.

At the current pace, he can throw a no hitter if he can only make it through 216 pitches.

Oh well, there goes the no-no.

C'mon David, lets get a hit here.

Or not

I really fucking hate the shift

Touchpad is getting too hot, being weird. Oh shit. Night all.

Like I said last night, another "loose mitt" error for Johnson.

Glad I'm not watching the bottoms of the innings. What a circus.

At least the Yankees gave a chance to come back. The NY Rangers are losing 4-1 in the 2nd. Probs no chance for them.

That would be "have" a chance. I hate typing and autocorrect on an iPad.

Rangers down 5-4...

Truly amazing, the Rangers tied it up at 4 and just now the Canadiens took a 5-4 lead! I know we're baseball only, but I grew up Yankees/Giants/Knicks/Rangers so this is good.

[18] Did Henri Richard make you cry? :-)

[19] nah! the Rangers seemed to never have a chance. The Yankees and the baseball season is more an emotional investment, especially for a seven year old. I had elder brothers, Mickey was a god, and the rest of the team were like part of the family.

[19] No, but John Starks made me hate ...

22 coleman42   ~  May 27, 2014 9:08 pm

[21] how about Luis Gonzalez?

23 cult of basebaal   ~  May 27, 2014 9:15 pm

[22] Eh, that sucked, but frankly, I don't feel anything for Gonzalez. You don't want to get beat on a fluke bleeder, don't throw a sac bunt into CF to set it up ...

I'm perfectly happy for Aceves to pitch the rest of this game. That would mean the good relief pitchers are rested, and Ace would presumably have to take a couple of games off. And, if he gives up four homers, maybe they'll even send him down!

So glad we didn't waste any actual runs on this game. Save 'em up!

The only sad part (aside from the L) is that Aceves didn't get torched.
