Hopefully the Yankees celebrated last night’s victory and Alex’s historic homer with an early bedtime and chaste reflection. Though actually the 1986 Mets would be just getting back to the hotel right now, and that worked out pretty well, so who knows.
Either way, it’s a day game with Nathan Eovaldi and Wade Miley as the most recent versions of National League exchange students who very well may soil themselves when pitching in front of the Green Monster. (Burnett, Pavano, Wright, Vazquez, Clement, Penny, Dempster… will they ever learn?) Here’s hoping that Eovaldi, and not Miley, breaks that cycle.
I won’t be in for the lineups, but let’s hope Alex is in the game and mushing 661 with the sun high in the sky.
Am in Paris for the month. Glad I missed it. Didn't miss him hitting into the double play the day before. Will feel differently when they trade him to the Marlins, I don't know? I live in Boynton Beach now. The Yankees .... Feel more affinity to the new royal baby.

Shopping done, dogs have been to the park and lawn mowed. Now it's time to enjoy some baseball.
[3] Me too, except for the lawn and the dog. (But I did manage to get some family-type errands taken care of.)
Oy.
Sun is not Headley's friend.
I am a sucker for seeing those 97 & 98 mph fastballs from Eovaldi. Damn! Drew Didied it.
No harm done.
I'm not fond of H. Ramirez. He seems to have many of the unlikeable qualities of that other Boston Ramirez, but without the (somewhat) redeeming unself-consciousness of Manny.
Nice job, Young Chris.
Ha, shifty shifters.
Jesus.
That looked like a disaster heading down Main St.
Just Fair!
But oh, Brett. Not wise.
Ouch.
I just tuned into the game. Was Gritty close to being safe?
[13] Yes, he was very close.
It wasn't really a terrible idea -- it just kind of shows that for all his speed, Brett just isn't a great base runner.
Jeez, we have a fast outfield.
Hm, this is getting frustrating.
Yeah, we have the lead, but Miley really sucks. And they're hitting the ball pretty well. But, just 1-0.
Modammt
Oh, little pony. You're my hero.
If Miley Cyrus married Wade Miley, she'd be...
[19] Slumming.
Well, he certainly has great range.
That was nice, Didi. I have hope for you yet,
Okay, good start.
DO NOT BUNT.
Yay!
Wow, not only did the single fail to score the runner, it didn't even advance the runner! Sheesh.
Here the bunt isn't so bad. (If Miley didn't suck I'd say definitely bunt.)
Headley starts the action?
Good job, Didi.
Goddamnsonofabitch!
Boo, me.
Oh, sweet. Very nice, Brett!
yes!
Gritty gritty gritty!
Yay, Brett!
Peeked at the NY Ranger game, they won. Ovetchkin (sp?) is too good though.
Uh oh.
Phew!
A rare foul-out at Fenway.
6 strong.
[37] And more...
Yup, time to take him out.
Clappity-clappity-clappity.
Huh, apparently we had a 4.0 earthquake here today. Southern Michigan. Didn't feel a thing.
Just got to tune in. Had to watch the Rangers take my Caps. This series will go 7. Washington has Ovi. Now we take you back to Boston.
Gulp
I hate all players named Mookie.
Don't throw that again.
This miserable little shit is always up to bat.
Let's get some insurance!
I also hate all players named Dustin.
Still, you have to love ponies. I mean, who doesn't love ponies?
Ara... yes he is a miserable little shit
Think Ar*d is waiting for the Sunday night national broadcast?
Siddown, fat ass!
Yeah, hm, that's the drawback of Wilson.
This isn't my favorite kind of relief pitching.
Really don't like Wilson's pace
Nice k
Thank you for playing, Panda.
Whew!
Panda swung at a bad pitch or two.
Time for a 4 out save from DB
Oh, shit! I thought that was the 3rd out. D'oh! One more now! C'mon Dellin!
Hm, so, Dellin FTW? Or anyway FTS?
Goddam.
Wow.
DB 'buff said
nuff
I'm diggin Dellin.
I used to love the Panda in a Giants uni. Not so much now...he looks like Big Papi's little brother.
Thanks for the insurance, Chris!
Young making a statement!
Young to the Monster!!!
Excellent. Very good acquisition.
Young went West, man!
Hey, this is an odd question, but I feel like it's okay to ask on Alex Belth's blog.
Has anyone here ever made limoncello?
(71) it will cost more to make it than to buy it.
Headley got licked there.
One down.
One down
I can't help it, like the Xander kid on the Sox.
[72] Hah, no. I got a lot of very good lemons cheap -- I was trying to figure out how to use them. The alcohol is also very cheap: grain alcohol 190 proof.
My question is: do you really have to filter it, and how much do you have to do it?
Two down.
Jeez. Dang.
He's unhittable, isn't he?
I mean, when he's on, he's untouchable.
Pure joy. FUCKING AWESOME! Dancin' Betances!
Three down!
Just awesome. Strike three. Struck out the side. So easy.
Excellent game.
4 up 4 k. Series win. Go get a sweep tomorrow!
4 strike outs! This team is cruising on less than $120M of payroll. Shows what will happen when the old salary yokes are gone.
I will go filter my liquor. I'm a little skeptical, but it couldn't hoit.
[77] this is when Google is your friend. I would think if you don't filter carefully it won't keep.
Yolks
[87] Oh, I have. But there are very widely varying opinions. One guy says you have to filter through a screen twice and paper coffee filters twice. Some people say don't do it at all.
I think it will keep okay -- no self-respecting microorganism grows in alcohol. (And I'm planning to keep it in the freezer, anyway.) I'm worried about the look -- the clarity.
I'm doing half of what the obsessive guy says to do. That should be enough.
[71] I've made it a few times, happily so. I'd say filtration etc is a matter of taste and aesthetics. (I do filter but would not tell you you have to.) What really matters is starting with quality ingredients and avoiding contaminants. For example I'd wash those lemons. Many come with wax on them. And this is a place for old-fashioned white sugar.
After that your challenge is patience and making space in the freezer!
[71] This is also your chance to make it less sweet than the store-bought stuff, if like me you think it's too sweet. Honeymooned in Amalfi and spoiled forever - a snob in spite of myself.
Hey, that's where I fell in love (with limoncello) too!
My family stayed on a lemon farm -- in Minori, actually, but on the Amalfi coast. I bought six bottles of their home made limoncello to bring home, but five of the broke in my suitcase. Tragedy!
Anyway, thanks. I did filter -- once with cheese cloth and then once through paper coffee filters. Looks good. And I was pretty careful adding simple syrup until it tasted right. It's both stronger and a bit less sweet than the commercial product.
I only wish I had made twice as much.
