Orioles have not lost an intradivisional series for the last 21 series, which ties the MLB record. The opponents of the other three team had a sub .500 record. Orioles’ opponents record is .549.
So the Orioles are the real deal.
It could be that this is happening at a good time, highlighting some trade deadline needs. I haven’t lost faith in Holmes, but it would be nice to get some swing-and-miss guys out there in the bullpen.
The catcher situation seems to be an organizational issue, so I don’t expect much to change there. They prioritize framing over throwing, and I don’t think even those nine steals from the Red Sox will change that.
And are Cabrera and LeMahieu the long-term solutions at the corners? One of their problems is the outfield logjam. They’ve got only one sure thing for the long term — Judge. Let’s assume they sign Soto. That’s two. I’ve loved having Verdugo, but there’s zero chance they keep him. So they have to fill that third spot with Jasson Dominguez or Spencer Jones. Do they keep one and trade one? The Twitterverse wants to move Judge to 1B tomorrow and promote both prospects, but I don’t know how realistic that is. I could Judge moving there in five years, but now? My ideal outfield would be Judge in right, Soto in left, and the Martian in center. But do they dare trade Jones?
So here I am at the game in New York, and it’s pretty clearly the worst game of the season. One. Hit.
But at least there’s this. I’m here with 63 of my eighth graders. A few sneaked into the bleachers, and one of them actually caught Olson’s home run on the fly. He’s even got a photo of it pulled from MLB.com. He’ll never forget it.
However, it is simultaneously worth noting that Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said on MLB Network radio earlier in June that it "doesn't make any sense for us" to trade Guerrero.
I'd be curious to see the actual numbers on runs scored vs expected runs scored for the Yankees in bases loaded and either no or 1 outs this season ...
I don't think it did ... that much.
Rizzo was essentially doing jack shit and while Frank was hitting well, you can only mask 5-6 batters worth of suck as long as your 2 superstars are superstarring.
So I was just thinking. Is there any spot better in baseball than this — 3-0 with two runners on and Aaron Judge waiting on deck? If your name is Juan Soto, you’ve got the greenest light possible.
Also, I may be sparse around these parts for the time being. Dad fell and broke & dislocated his shoulder. Doctor had to open him up to sort of get everything back in place. He’s in recovery now, just dealing with the anesthesia from Sunday. Not easy when you’re 91. I’ve been ferrying mom back and forth from the hospital.
Ah, a new thread.
What? No where near a strike, blue.
Oh, whoops.
Didn't notice this thread.
Gerrit didn't look like the best pitcher in baseball at the start, but he seems to be improving as the game goes on.
Well, knock on wood.
Yeah, a lot better! (The fourth inning was excellent.) Getting swings-and-misses, which he wasn't in the first inning.
Grumble grumble.
Yeesh.
I stopped listening -- was Cole on a strict pitch count or something?
80 pitch limit, which I’m fine with, probably 90 or so next time.
I just wish the offense would show up.
4 pm start tomorrow
Tied in bottom of the ninth
The Clay Holmes era may be coming to an end. He just doesn't perform like a closer.
Yay, Judge is back
Well this is not a good start
Gil isn’t fooling anyone today.
Finally
Another streak is gone — first Yankee starter not to complete four innings, I believe.

Outfielders didn’t even move. I guess Judge is fine.
The pitching however, is a mess.
As is the defense.
Well that sucked, bigly.

So many decisions…
After this headline, I could have predicted the Yanks would have a losing streak.
And now the Martian is out 8 weeks with an oblique strain. We’ll see him in ST.
Apple TV game. Sigh.
Looked safe, but close.
This might be the interview David Pinto mentioned where Reggie recounts playing in Birmingham as a minor leaguer. I haven’t listened yet, but apparently it was, um, less than pleasant
https://bsky.app/profile/rochaa.bsky.social/post/3kvhhyiegsa2w
[26] Reggie was my favorite player growing up. I thought he explained himself pretty well.
Welp. The “other good teams” part of the season is starting to wear on me.
So here I am at the game in New York, and it’s pretty clearly the worst game of the season. One. Hit.

Can we have some good pitching, hitting, running and defense from the Yankees tonight?
All rise! Thank you Judge.
Tight zone tonight.
So far so good.
Stanton injured?
Ah, walking the terrorists worked.
“Hamstring tightness” for Stanton. Probably grade 1, 4 weeks?
This is just the most Frank thing ever ...
FRANK! Don't run, just jog!
OK!
Frank jogs to 2nd ... tweaks hammy.
I wonder if they'll try having him walk the bases to avoid injury when he returns?
https://www.pinstripealley.com/2024/6/22/24184015/yankees-giancarlo-stanton-injury-hamstring-tightness-braves
The inevitable has occurred ...
https://www.mlb.com/news/giancarlo-stanton-to-injured-list-with-left-hamstring-strain
It begins ... by which I mean the cycle of get hot, get hurt, return cold, warm up, get hurt, lather, rinse, repeat.
Only the 10 day list, which should be encouraging.
Good start for Nestor.
[40] It always is ... when it first begins.
Would be nice if the offense showed up.
Running home on the "contact play" and that fucking dumb play by Volpe are the 2 most boneheaded things to watch! Grrrr......
Waste of a good outing by Cortes.
Good afternoon spoilt
Stanton “expects” four weeks. So it’ll be 2 months
TBS game. Who is Brian Anderson, I think Jeff Francouer was a pitcher. Mets, I believe.
[47] It begins ... by which I mean the cycle of get hot, get hurt, return cold, warm up, get hurt, lather, rinse, repeat.
That's the end of useful Frank in 2024.
[48] Also available on YES, at least for me.
Vladdy is open to a trade to the Yankees, I guess last place is worse than the Bronx.
Uh ... REALLY, Juan?
[51] From MLB.com
However, it is simultaneously worth noting that Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said on MLB Network radio earlier in June that it "doesn't make any sense for us" to trade Guerrero.
[52] That's a DOUBLE DUH! for Juan.
Uh oh, bases loaded, no outs, Yankees run scoring probability 0.01
Yup.
Bravo, fellas ... BRAVO!
[55] It is MIND BOGGLING how many times the Yankees manage to snatch zero or one runs from the jaws of a big inning ... sigh.
Yeah, it has to be below random chance. Way below.
I'm glad that Cole has decided to throw 8 BILLION pitches to start off this game ... sure promises a deep run in this game.
Well ... I'll take THAT, all things considered.
Ah Mutts can make bad baserunning decisions, but they did get one.
Likely a bad send by the 3rd base coach ... TBF ... it was a damn fine throw
DJ Outz
The title of this thread is not aging well. Sigh.
Sigh
Sigh sigh.
Why NOT hit Judge ... it's NOT like Torres or Verdugo are going to make you pay for it ...
If Judge and Soto are Germany and Japan ... Volpe is TOTES Italy in this Tripartite Pact
That was a shite at bat.
Sigh.
DOINK!
LOL.
Sigh sigh sigh
Sigh sigh sigh sigh.
I have to imagine that's it for Cole:
4ip ... 6 runs ... 4HRs ... 4W ... 0K
Yay, a run.
I'd be curious to see the actual numbers on runs scored vs expected runs scored for the Yankees in bases loaded and either no or 1 outs this season ...
We should ask David Pinto, shouldn’t be too hard a query.
Pulling us back in
When does the best pitcher in baseball join the team?
Let's hope we don't get another Gil turn from Gil tonight ...
MLBN game
Sigh ... how will we fail *this* time???
Aw crap, bases loaded, one out, the Mets have the Yankees right where they want them.
Modammit, I hate being right.
Oh ... first pitch GiDP ... I should have called it.
Honestly ... if Rice gets a hit tonight ... he's my #5 hitter going forward. This is just GHASTLY to watch.
Last night ... Yankees fail to score from a bases loaded situation in the Top of the 1st
Mets lead off with a double down the right-field line in the bottom of the inning...
Tonight ... Yankees fail to score from a bases loaded situation in the Top of the 1st
Mets lead off with a double down the right-field line in the bottom of the inning ...
SIGH.
Well phew
Wait, what happened?
The good thing is the Orioles have been sucking lately too.
Send the rain south, we need it.
I think there might be a weather window coming up here
It's here ...
It should have kept raining.
BUT THAT'S WHY YOU STICK AROUND ... 7-2
And that's why you go to bed ...
Is it too much to ask for a victory tonight?
Flaherty & Rucco?
[97] It appears to be ... yes.
Yeah ... I think that answers [97] emphatically
You have got to be kidding me.
JFC!!!!!!
Maybe settle for just not being embarrassed?
Nope, not even that.
[102] You can't complain ... you're TOTES Team Just Fair
Now THAT?
THAT was PLENTY fair!
I hate that fucking asshole. Back to the soccer game.
[105] LOL ... I came HERE to get AWAY from the soccer match.
You'd have to be in a cult to believe I can't complain about balls that are just fair. A baseball cult even! ; )
[105] W in the FFFFFFFFFF Fck was Weah thinking.
Facepalm.
Yeeeesh ... I knew Rodon was going to revert to the mean ... I *didn't* think that meant reverting back to 2023.
Just plunk Springer next time.
If someone watched the Yankees for the last week, they wouldn't believe that they were the best pitching staff in the majors for most of the season.
AND one of the best offenses, either ...
Only mostly dead
Poor Ben Rice ... he gets his call up and runs into an INSANE run of left-handed starting pitching ... he's sitting tonight because?
LHSP.
Gee, this seems familiar
Who knew that Stanton and Rizzo going down would affect the offense this much?
I don't think it did ... that much.
Rizzo was essentially doing jack shit and while Frank was hitting well, you can only mask 5-6 batters worth of suck as long as your 2 superstars are superstarring.
1.127
.992
.719
.705
4 guys above .7 ... and two of them only by a smidge
Well, it’s a run.
Soto with the miracle ... good yob, guys!
This does NOT seem promising.
See Yankees, that’s how you score with bases loaded, no outs.
I’m not sure why the Yankees think Stroman is upset with his teammates. Seems pretty obvious that he’s upset with himself.
Yay?
So I was just thinking. Is there any spot better in baseball than this — 3-0 with two runners on and Aaron Judge waiting on deck? If your name is Juan Soto, you’ve got the greenest light possible.
Not sure what people were worried about.
(I kid.)
Well back to walking the terrorists working.
If you just got back, rbj, turn around and march straight back out that door!
Yikes! Problem is, they are sleeping.
I'm beginning to think they're not very good terrorists, rbj.
It’s mostly other animals they terrorize. Including birds, like blue jays.
Any teams named Squirrels?
Oh Mah Gud!
DK Outz got a XBH!
A hit with bases loaded, nobody out ... is that even legal???
Nope, it isn’t. Canadian run exchange discount.
Soto a scratch ... Uncle Ben batting 2nd ... let's go Yanks!
Right hand bruise ... going in for imagining today.
Meh.
Uh ... OUCH
Argh ... I think he's out on replay.
And ... he was.
Sigh
RICE!
Phew
Remember when the Yankees seemed to be able to spin dross into gold when it came to finding relievers?
Me too ... THOSE were good times.
Is there NOBODY at AAA or AA that is better than this current collection of bums, has beens and never weres?
The Yankees really, Really, REALLY need to figure out how to get through to Volpe at the plate ... he should NOT be batting leadoff.
W/Ks by Month
Mar/Apr 14/27
May 9/27
June 3/28 (not including tonight)
OBP by month
Mar/Apr .358
May .347
June .256
Honestly ... a .256 OBP hitting in front of Soto/Judge is damn near criminal.
Make that 3/31 for Volpe.
But good to see Soto back AND ... Judge is a beast.
DJ OUTZ!
Ooof ... that was about 2 inches below
3/32 ... FEEL THE VOLPE EXPERIENCE!
Not coming to a base near you ...
3/33 ... LET TONY COOK!
So sweet ... I'll say it twice: DJ OUTZ ... DJ OUTZ!!!
What’s with all these Mondays off.

So priorities have changed for the time being.
I know there are a lot of concerns about the team, but what Aaron Judge is doing right now almost makes me forget about the current team struggles.
Just click this link and look at his numbers from the last three seasons, which is really just two seasons worth of games. It's unbelievable.
