Today's Wash Post has a story that the Nats made a very big offer to Harper before he became a free agent (it was declined, but his agent has close ties to the team).
1) That trade doesn’t seem likely. Curious though. Harper definitely seems to want out of D.C. Wonder if the Mets will snag either Manny Machado or Harper.
[2] They oughtta be thinking about a first rate catcher and relievers before anyone else. Prove they can win enough close games and then add hitters as needed. Don't think either of those two would want top come to a team that reminds them of where they left.
CC can still pitch, and who doesn't love the guy? I'm happy.
Harper: yes, please. He'll hit 50 at YSIII. Think of this lineup: Hicks, Judge, Harper, Stanton, Sanchez, Andujar, Gleyber, any old rubbish, AAA filler.
Sanchize having left shoulder surgery. Out 3 months. Non throwing, but power shoulder. Should be ready for ST and certainly Opening Day. Gary is still awesome and should be great next season - both at and behind the dish! ⚾️
[5] Didn't we say the same thing about Stanton though? That didn't necessarily work out as imagined, though the numbers say he had a fairly decent season overall (just not by his standards). I fear that the short porch will tempt him way too often and he'll mess up his mechanics trying to pull the ball all the time, then when he tries to adjust to the inevitable shift and hit the opposite way (or bunt!), the front office will burn him up for not going by the numbers. I don't know how seriously the Yanks take their analytics, but judging from what Cashman implied, a reaming for not following the notebook is not out of the question.
Gary's having surgery on his left (non-throwing) arm and will be out of commission for three months. So much for the off-season workouts *sigh*, though he doesn't necessarily have to start from Opening Day. I figured there was something physically wrong with him. What say a Cervelli reunion to platoon with Romine and let Gary fully recover and work his way back into shape until the ASB?
Scott Boros, Harper's agent, said Harper would "be open" to playing first base. Hmmm.Harper grew up a Yankee fan, and the Mick was his idol. Having him at 1st would be great (esp. since he can play in the outfield when the inevitable injuries occur.) Apparently, he turned down a $300 million 10 year offer from the Nats, but rejected it because it didn't have any opt outs for him. The guy is only 26!
This Yankees team can already score runs. We need pitching to prevent runs.
Harper making 300 mil or more is ridiculous.
Yanks should trade Sonny, sign Happ and get Corbin.
They should appear to be in on Machado and Harper, and sign a stopgap. I am seeing someone suggesting Jed Lowrie and that is a low cost alternative and someone who can cover Andujar at 3rd too.
If Sanchez is the real deal, he will come back and at least (one would assume) have a better season at the plate. If they get a split of what Bird and late season Voit supplied at first, they would also be improved. This is a team that was one of the best offensively in MLB last year, and a great pen of power arms.

Harper will, obviously, get paid like a superstar; I wouldn't pay him. He's a really good player, but he's not worth A-Rod money.
On the other hand, it looks like the free agent market in general is going to be full of bargains. The price of 30-year-olds has gone waaaaaaay down. Is there an overlooked good starter out there? Or someone who could DH?
