Man I love this song. Great song for early spring.

The thing I find myself doing when I listen to Led Zeppelin, more than any other band, is immediately re-playing a tune. Last time I listened to them on my ipod, couple months ago, I got stuck on "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You." Played it back at least 3-4 times. So many of their songs knock my socks off, and this is one of 'em.

Used to be a really good cover band in Rochester that had this song as part of their set (back in the day when hanging out at a rock club and listening to cover bands while getting sh*tfaced was part of the weekend ritual for us college kids). Amazing song - but especially so live when the guitars seem to be inside your head. Man, I can almost smell the dry ice.

Just a good song. Great riff. Screaming vocals, and a little "a cappella" part which begs for drunking kids to sing along.

I guess this is my version of an acid flashback. Still a child of the 80's.

Man, that was just what the doctor ordered! I needed some Zep in my step. And the song choice-oy!! One of my old faves from way back when. They really stood the test of time, didn't they?.

My boy Alan called me yesterday and goes, "Tomorrow's beat of the day? 'The Ocean.'" Right, doctor. And he knows more about ass-kicking records than anyone I know.

Never a bad time to git the led out, eh?

[3] Dry Ice? Sounds like the Penny Arcade!

I love the oldies-ish ending to this song. I think "The Ocean" is Zeppelin at their happy rockin' best. ("When The Levee Breaks" is them at their dark stompin' best, a song I've repeated a few times.)

this tune ROCKS! i've always loved it. the band Zebra does a terrific cover version of it on their live record. they're from both Louisiana and Long Island. weird, i know, but amazing group from the late 70's, very Zep influenced. i'm sure a lot of Banterers are familiar.

not only do i teach The Ocean to students (the bars of 7, stops, swing(ish) section and Bonham's playing - of course - are all good learning points), but i play it in a couple of bands and may even do it on a gig tomorrow night!

[6] Penny Arcade, sure. And there was a place over by the airport called The Playpen (or maybe Playpen North) which was half rocker bar and half dance club. Some great bands played in those places. Saw BOC at the Penny Arcade, Pat Travers at The Playpen. Heck, even Ted Nugent came to the Playpen after a show at the War Memorial one night. The place went bananas. Mostly is was local and semi-local bands trying to find their niche, and most of them were very good, if you were into that sort of music (and we were). There was another place over in East Rochester - the ER Junction or something like that. Saw some good bands there, too.

Good times. Phew.

[7] Zebra is one of my all time favorite bands. Saw them in Poughkeepsie at The Chance once. Man - they totally rocked the place. Their first record is still one of my favorites.

You gotta love Plant's buried 50's vocals in the end section. Its about as joyful as Zep ever got.

[9] nice. their debut is unreal! and has totally passed the test of time. the Live album is also awesome. they actually put out a studio cd in 2003 and it's really good.
