[2] thats the thing. what made the original so great was the little nuggets that you had never known before. All the Negro League stuff, the dead ball stories, all that stuff was fantastic.
this on the other hand, I feel like is gonna be 4 hours of Sox and Steroids...and I don't know if I can handle that.
That's right. Plus, this is more journalism in a way, or current history being weaved into the historical context. I'm sure there will be some wonderful parts in it, but we're maybe not the best audience. Too smart, in a way. Keith Olbermann, who famously pointed out all of the documentary's errors is featured as a talking head this go around, so does Howard Bryant. But we'll also get more Doris Kearns Goodwin and Billy Crystal. And really, does anyone want to see that?
I think what made the original so enjoyable for the hardcore baseball fan was that even though you had to sit through Doris Kearns Goodwin and George Will you would be rewarded with Buck O'Neill (and the rest of the N.L. guys, who were really the highlight of the whole thing), Dan Okrent, and Roger Angell. The really good talking heads outnumbered the hacks. And yes I just called George Will a hack...so sue me.
and we should be happy Billy Crystal is in it! after all he's the biggest Yankee fan in the history of forever. Think you know a lot about the Yankees? Nope Billy knows more. Think you love the Yankees? Sorry, no one loves them more than Billy. Hey did you know Billy's hero was Mickey Mantle...and then they became friends?? It's true! OK, I'll stop.
he annoys me after a while, not so much him but what he hath wrought regarding the game's history, but who am I kidding? I can't wait to watch this
1) Be prepared to be furious. They'll spend a good deal of time on the Torre Yankees but probably more time on the 04 Sox.
