Last night at the Stadium: Exterior and Interior.
The wife and I had a fine time in the Todd Drew box seats. Highlights included a beautiful slide home by Alex Rodriguez, Francisco Cervelli’s tag at the plate (and Curtis Granderson’s throw), Mark Teixeira’s nifty, unassisted double play (oh, yeah, and two more homers), a long home run by Robbie Cano, a high homer by Eddie Nunez and the delightful surprise of the night–a line drive home run by Ramiro Pena.
Man, that Pena shot was a laser! One of many this year, I'm sure.
[1] I believe you jest, but I wouldn't be surprised if Pena goes deep once or twice more this season. He seems to have completely changed his batting stance. Whereas before he always was always extending across the plate and hitting off his front foot, now, he is sitting back, almost as if looking to pull. I am not sure if he has done work with Long, but in his first at bat, I almost didn't recognize it was Pena.
[2] Yeah, that's a pretty astute observation. I thought he looked a little like Ichiro the way he used hips to drive the ball. And the top half looked a lot like Curtis, which can't be bad. It would be awesome if he found his stroke, because the boy can sure pick it.
Nunez seems to have a lot of trouble in the field. The error he made was atrocious and a result of laziness or indecision. If he bothered to move his feet, he could stopped the ball in front of him and still made a play. Instead he stabs at the ball and watches it squirt by him.
