It’s our man Hiroki in Cleveland tonight. Chance for the Yanks to take advantage of a Rays loss. Justin Masterson is no slouch though.
Derek Jeter SS
Nick Swisher RF
Robinson Cano 2B
Mark Teixeira 1B
Curtis Granderson CF
Eric Chavez 3B
Russell Martin C
Raul Ibanez DH
Ichiro Suzuki LF
Never mind the waiver wire: Let’s Go Yank-ees!
Dames!
Be a really big win for the Yanks tonight, huh?
[2] It's the end of August, and we're in a Division race. So, they're all big from now on.
[3] Or, as I like to point out, in reality no single game is any bigger than another, it's only a matter pf perceptions. The Yankees need to win more games than the Rays to win the division, it doesn't matter if one of those wins come on the same day as a Rays loss.
[4] Party pooper.
[5] Yeah, I know.
Goddam Bue Jays play at 7:00, so no Yankees for me. Should I log on to MLB.tv? I'm not sure if I should burn my bandwidth on tonight's game. Hmm...
[6] Wait, you subscribe to mlb.tv and you're not going to watch? Why do you subscribe?
Hm.
THROW STRIKES NOW.
[7] I subscribed this year for the first time in several years, because I was in Germany and it was my only chance to watch games. Plus, my internet connection in Germany was überschnell and had no bandwidth limit. So, I streamed plenty-o'-games. I've since returned to Canada, with my shit "high speed" internet with a very restrictive bandwidth limit (and it's really expensive when you exceed the limit). I get several Yankees games on the various Canadian sports channels, either when they play the Jays, or on big "national" games (Fox, Sunday Nights, some games against the Sox), or when they play out west (so long as the game is not opposite the Jays).
So, that's the long way of explaining that I can only really watch a couple of games a month on MLB.tv, or I can log on and off throughout the game---checking in once in a while.
I'll not renew MLB.tv next season.
Oh, I get it. I used to have that limit thing too (with a dish). I think of those days as the Dark Ages.
Hey, very good pitch!
The sinker looks fine, he should just throw a lot of those, mix in a curve.
Crap.
Oy.
Mebbe not, huh?
I love watching Kuroda: he works fast and efficiently, throws strikes, keeps the ball in the park...
He's working fast, anyway!
So's the Yankees offense, I see.
[4] How about when we play TB? Those games are a tad bigger then the rest.
Can't be too upset with Kuroda. He's been our savior since the ASB (or longer).
[16] Uh oh. Don't get him started on that.
[16] Nope, not really. So long as one team ends up with more wins than the other, it doesn't matter against whom they came.
That said, it can be reasonably argued that defeating your closest rival (for a division title or playoff spot) is a little gooder because it guarantees a game advantage (i.e., not only does your team win, the rival must necessarily lose). But otherwise, it's just doesn't matter how or against whom you get the most wins.
See?
[20] RI.... please set him straight. Mathimatical probability and all that.
[21] There's nothing to set straight. RI knows that I'm correct,
[20] I'm a voice crying in the wilderness.
Make straight the way of the fastball. Monkeypants the Baptist.
A hit!
Oh, there's Rob.
Welcome back. (I hope.)
[25] just wondering, was it me or did Rob start struggling when the news on melky broke? I thought that was interesting since he clearly was shocked by the news. I also could be wrong as this was an extremely anecdotal observation from an always distracted person.
my mlb.tv just stopped working. annoying. i haven't had problems with it for some time.
BTW, I like the Cleveland unis this evening.
[26] I'd agree that's when it started; no idea if that was why though. And [27] mine is fine, except it has an annoying sound coming out of it. (I call it "Michael Kay".)
[29] well, right, i can't prove the why. Just interesting timing I suppose. And yeah, my feed came back sortof. Maybe it's my internet. Both have been solid for a while though. oh well. I got to see Martin's throw to second before it went out again though.
[9] I have no idea what you are talking about. "restrictive bandwidth limit"..is it the 1990s in Canada?
[28] Me too! No sign of Wahoo is always good, and the font is very nice.
[26] Interesting. I'm sure it was very upsetting for him, as it should be.
Okay, so the game is not a total washout.

Sad. First Socrates earlier this year, now Felix. (Will anyone on the Banter care about this? :(
Yay, Rob!
Okay, let's cash 'em.
[33] Oh, yeah. But that was long before I followed soccer, so, kinda no.
RIYank, that picture of A-Gon, Grinch and Punto on the airplane is hysterical. They look so happy!
Come on Grandy-man!!
[36] They do.
Curtis really wanted to hit it. Good patience, Curtis.
Now, one hit, please. Preferable a double.
[36] where is this pic sir?
[38] http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2012/08/california_here.html
Good swings here..bad luck on the results.
Ooooh, bad luck.
Hit, please, Russell? Please?
Oh, you're kidding. DAMN.
Good try, Russell.
[38] Here it is.
[39] Thanks! They do look pleased to be out of boston.
wish i could see those swings. my internet seems fine other than mlb.tv. could be my apple tv i suppose.
[43] Sometimes the particular server you're tapped into gets sluggish. But I don't have apple tv, maybe it's that. (I usually use my son's PS3, actually!)
We're totally outplaying these bastards. That one glitch in the first inning shouldn't count for so much. Selig has to step in and overrule the scoreboard.
[31] I have no idea what you are talking about. "restrictive bandwidth limit"..is it the 1990s in Canada?
Wel, I do live in a protectionist, state-monopolist province. That means the "local" cable company has no competition and can pretty much put whatever limits it wants on bandwidth.
More generally, from what I understand, bandwidth limits are far stricter in Canadia than in the US or Europe. Is it the 1990s up here? I don't know, can Brett Gardner bend light?
[46] Well, yes.
So no fiber optic cable in Quebec? That surprises me.
ok it's my internet. switched to ipad and turned off wifi and it works on the 3g. just interesting. just thought i'd share.
c'mon robbie!
[48] Still could be the particular server, rather than anything 'wrong' at your end. (Since your 3G is bound to connect to a different mlb.com server.)
Fug.
[49] right, valid point. damn it tex, that sucked.
I hate infield pop-ups.
[46] I'm no techie but that sounds really absurd. Is there no way for you to watch online and bypass those limits?
[52] Nope, unless I watch from work, or pay for a much more expensive internet package with more bandwidth. To give you an idea, here an online article (it's a couple of years old, but the basic parameters are the same):

OK, two innings to score two. Jeter has to bat at least once more, so there's a chance for one run in there.
i would like it if our catcher hit over .200. just saing.
[55] bleh, just saying. my bad.
[53] Le Scandale!
"Hang On Sloopy" playing at Jacobs Field. Why do all ballparks' music directors play the same crap over and over again?
Sigh..time to watch another game, this is too frustrating.
damn. can't keep leaving all of these runners on base. hopefully freddy looks good tomorrow. later yinz.
Yankees RISP: 1-7, LOB 9.
