This Just In…

Brace yourself, this may come as a shock, but…

Future Hall of Famer Derek Jeter isn’t a very good fielder

Oh, well.  See ya in Cooperstown, Jetes.

In other news, that bum Phil Hughes threw 5 innings tonight. His line, 1 hit, no walks, no runs, 8 strikeouts (59 pitches). Man, I hope we trade the bum.

but seriously...where will the Captain be playing in 3 years?? not enough power for 1B...not enough range for Center...DH?

damn, i miss baseball...at least got the Japan Series going on over here. Giants and Lions tied a game each, Game Two won on a "sayonara" home run by Alex Ramirez...

3 thelarmis   ~  Nov 4, 2008 12:22 am

not enough power for DH. sounds like he should just ride pine. i hear cairo is a free agent... ; )

Maybe Sojo can come out of retirement? A Cairo/Sojo platoon would shatter the Yankee "grit" and "chemistry" scale as we know it...

5 thelarmis   ~  Nov 4, 2008 12:40 am

let's go for the trifecta and bring scotty bro-bro back. i'm sure he can still scoop it at the hot corner and obviously we need a 3rd baseman. the guy we have now just ain't clutch, dontchya know!

6 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 4, 2008 12:46 am

We jest, and yet there are still so many believers...watching the Japan Series on tv I had to listen to the "analyst" here go on and on about how amazing the second baseman was for perfectly executing a sacrifice bunt...in the second inning...

thelarmis, you listen to any Charles Mingus? pulled out "Mingus,Mingus,Mingus..." last night. Forgot how great he and his band were!

7 thelarmis   ~  Nov 4, 2008 12:51 am

hell yeah, on Mingus! during the season -i think it was JL - i recommended my fave mingus to him - Let My Children Hear Music. absolutely unreal...

Cairo/Sojo .... wasn't that a character in one of the Star Wars prequels?

fantastic record. love that poem he reads towards the end, about choosing the wrong path at the fork in the road.. ever read his "autobiography" (in quoted because so much is obviously made up!) "Beneath the Underdog"?

oh yeah, did we sign C.C. yet?? am boycotting ESPN and other sports sites except for the NBA scores page...

10 thelarmis   ~  Nov 4, 2008 1:10 am

speaking of retired players -- i really wish both Moose & Maddux would come back and pitch next year. unfortunately, neither is looking likely...

11 thelarmis   ~  Nov 4, 2008 1:12 am

that's so cool you know that record! nope, haven't read his book. i'm not a big reader, but i did just pick up the Blue Note Biography...

we signed sergio mitre instead...

12 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 4, 2008 1:19 am

Mingus never really made a bad record (at least as far as I have heard..)

let's all say a prayer/do a rain dance/light incense/sing Kumbaya/crack a Kola nut/burn paper money/whatever we can do to ensure that Cash does NOT sign Burnett??

13 thelarmis   ~  Nov 4, 2008 1:23 am

mattpat will be the ringleader for the seance! nomaas has an anti-burnett post up right now. i am all about NOT signing AJ...

14 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 4, 2008 1:36 am

seriously, I am ok for CC but Burnett for big $$ would be Pavano or Mike Hampton all over again (Mike Hampton..one of the all time great lines.."we chose Denver because of the community and the great school system"...sure Mike! good job thinking about the kids!)

15 thelarmis   ~  Nov 4, 2008 1:40 am

i agree. i'm cool w/ CC, not w/ AJ. i think the Rox also got denny neagle that same offseason. he blew that for a forty-dollar blow...

i think that crazy hampton contract ended this season. i could very well be mistaken. i could also very easily look it up. but...

np = curtis fuller "the opener". nice record. w/ hank mobley & mr. pc

16 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 4, 2008 1:46 am

man...that Hampton contract, seems like half the league ended up paying bits of that one! and Denny Neagle...what an idiot. didn't he know the Rockies were quite the Christian organization and wouldn't appreciate his choice of nocturnal amusement??

had on Wayne Shorter "Night Dreamer" during lunch..

17 thelarmis   ~  Nov 4, 2008 1:50 am

worse than any religious blasphemy, dude had a wife and kids at home. frickin' moron!

nice on the shorter - i've got Etc, Schizophrenia and All Seeing Eye en route to me this week... : )

18 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 4, 2008 1:53 am

"All Seeing Eye" is an awesome record!! damn, you are so right, just endless great albums on Blue Note...I saw Shorter two years ago with his quintet, they burned...

jazz and baseball....America never produced anything better! :)

19 thelarmis   ~  Nov 4, 2008 1:59 am

that's so cool you saw shorter recently! i'm psyched now about all seeing eye - i've never heard it. in fact, i haven't heard any of the 3 from [17] that i ordered. i stayed away from Super Nova. started getting late and passed the "Classic" period i adore so much.

the drumkit is american, too. yeah man, jazz & baseball. dig it!

20 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 4, 2008 2:02 am

ASE is a "suite" album, with a larger line-up than usual, let me know what you think. Schizophrenia is good too, I don't have Etc... though. Adam's Apple and Speak No Evil of course are the BN classics....

btw, see how Jimmy Rollins called out the Mets?? too funny...

21 thelarmis   ~  Nov 4, 2008 2:07 am

JuJu and The Soothsayer are also major classics! i'm looking forward to getting all 3. i have like another 30 BN coming... : ~

i'm pretty sure i read some j-roll/muts thing...

22 Dimelo   ~  Nov 4, 2008 8:28 am

I can't believe they have a person watch all the games so that they can track the location, how hard the ball was hit, where the fielder was positioned, etc. That cracks me up, I love baseball but that can't be any fun.

Jeter sucks at SS, oh well....what else is new?

If I were Jeter and I was asked about Bill James' defensive findings then I'll pull out a pic of the current girl I'm seeing then I'll pull out a pic of James' wife and that'll be my answer. Jeter is still getting 'Paid in Full'!!!!

23 SteveAmerica   ~  Nov 7, 2008 2:13 am

In other news, I don't care. He's a legit hof'er. SS defense is hardly the yankees biggest problem.
