Top of the Heap

Studs Turkel, the great man of American letters, passed away last Friday.

If you are not familiar with his work, check out his wonderful site, sponsored by the Chicago Historical Society.  It has audio clips from many of his books.  Studs was an activist, a writer, a radio personality, and one of the best listeners this country has ever produced.

It’s hard for me to imagine Chicago without him.

He lived a long, rich life and will be missed.

Alex,
Thanks for recognizing a man who gave more than he took. Studs was a giant as a journalist, an American and a human being.

He was also great in Eight Men Out as Hugh Fullerton.

There was a man who knew the world. Rest in peace, Studs.

Its a shame he didn't last to see the outcome of the election today. I am sure he would have been very happy, "radical conservative" that he was.
