Why not more? Greed is good, haven’t you heard?
I’m starting to really love Joba as a pitcher. He was one thing as a set-up reliever, an overpowering guy–electric, exciting. But he’s far more complete as a starter; throws a change-up and a curve with confidence. He’s not as big or chunky or as plodding as Roger Clemens, but he’s still a power guy who is a bona fide pitcher. He’s walking too many guys but I like the progress he’s made. Each start is fun to watch. He’s thinking out there, and he’s got some courage.
Be interesting to see if he can keep building tonight in another go at the O’s.
Nine would be fine, sunshine.
"Fi, fi, were ah Kinggggg!"
: )
Cult: made me laugh in the other, cranky thread. I'm not disappearing, may just pay more attention to advice william gave me (the calm, judicious william!) a couple of days back here. Getting into certain kinds of debate becomes a waste of time, for sure ... and just as bad for the bystanders!
Just a small look ahead ... Mets have to cheer for Yankees on weekend, Yankees cheer for Mets. Tis a mad world, my masters.
Oh god.
Oboy, super-happy-funtime...
[3] What?
Oh, that. I came in late. What happened?
Hmm... Joba's hurting more than he's letting on.
Yeah, that's not good.
Oh shit.. just what we need.
Damn.
Well that was exactly what we didn't need.
[6] Hot comebacker hit him near his right knee. He's probably gonna knot up quick if he hasn't already...
[12] Yeah, I saw the replay, thanks.
Aceves, Tomko, Edwar, Veras then Coke. Did I forget anyone?
Thanks, speedy.
[14] Swisher.
Bleh! Tape an aspirin to it, Joba!
: )
[14] Not that I imply it's the order I want, just the most likely order unless Aceves surprises us...
[14] No Edwar, Chyll Will...
He was sent down after Span took his changeup deep.
[16] He can go in for Edwar... >;)
Well that's one way to limit Joba's innings. D'effing Oh! Aceves for 4 Tomko for 5. Offense for abut 15. Good thoughts. Good thoughts.
Hm, if there had to be a day when our pitching was in trouble, this might be the best day.
I guess they are going to wait and see if the mirror image of Bud Selig's autograph vanishes from Joba's knee in short order, or not...
[19] Right. Swisher then. Then again, if we rough Eaton up and get into their bullpen, we can leave Ace in there regardless and bypass that whole mess...
Woohoo Robbie!
I do think this would be a good day for Girardi to learn to stick with a successful reliever. I have no doubt that he'll leave in AA. I hope he sticks with Tomko if Tomko pitches pretty well.
Woohoo Tex!
Back to back to back to...
Is that baseball's version of a "triple double?"
: )
Now this is the offense we signed up for. Let's hope they can do against good teams too.
Seeing Joba in the dugout chillin' out and smiling with a big lead will make me feel better.
[29] Now leading in the wordplay part of the competition: PJ.
Yeah, way to move him over...
Uh.
What the hell?
I used to be superstitious. After a while though, I became so consumed with maintaining all of the rituals, it adversely effected my concentration of the tasks at hand.
Now, I couldn't care less!
Yay Melky!
: )
That was weird. Did Melky honestly think he would help ward off a throw to home or did he just fall asleep?
Having a productive routine is one thing.
Superstition is a song by Stevie Wonder!
: )
Adam Eaton is the cure to what ales.
The issue with Joba certainly sucks, but nonetheless....
I don’t like to get ahead of myself, but this series could easily be a sweep.
(Sit on a tack Hoss!)
I'm surprised Pie didn't shout "Ha!" right there, that usually works >;)
[36] That's what I meant to ask with my "What the hell?".
[36] You are not complaining about a two out, two run double but the Melkdud... are you?
So have they completed a battery or X-rays on Joba yet, or what?
Like OYF said, "A billion dollars doesn't buy what it used to!"
: /
[38] If he were a bartender, yes...
If the object of baseball were to hit the ball as high as possible, the Orioles would be really good.
[39] Sometimes its funny how things work out though. I hope Joba isn't hurt, but the Hughes/Wang situation may have sorted itself out.
[42] Check the post, OYF... greed is good again!
[46] There was always hope that no one would mention that, but I also hoped that KFC grilled chicken would not find my neighborhood...
Something's wrong. Cervelli didn't hit a double. Is he okay?
Michael Kay loves that color tv simile, huh?
It comes with age, I know, but Jeter has lost a step. Not just in that play here, but I've noticed it all season.
Yay Rob!!!
Robbie!
Robbie esta en fuego!
Woohoo!
[50] Wait until he discovers the microwave...
Surprised Huff didn't try to dive for that >;)
[55] Won't do him any good. He has the palate of a four year old...
: )
[57] We know he likes "sizzling bacon"...
I spent the night in Felix, PA once. Right outside King of Prussia, isn't it?
[59] (Insert dirty joke here)
Yankees are going to be at least a second place team by Memorial Day
Jones is a serious ballplayer.
Whew. Jones missed Aceves' knee. After Roberts struck out looking, I was worried.
Yes, when you become a reliever you lose some of the length in your arm. Thank you, Michael, for that bit of anatomical trivia.
Kay is floored that a 23 year old player is better than he was last year.
Jose Veras stretching: Mattpat's favorite sight!
[66] Hide the liquor!
Okay, we need at least three more runs to Veraproof this lead...
[66] GMTA...
I am so much that guy who found that pile of money behind him...
[68] Is "veraproof" another word for a cheap wedding?
: )
Zaun is not happy back there right now (unless that's his thing...)
[68] Assuming he only pitches one inning, you mean.
[72] Unless what's his thing? Oh, that?
No, he's just flashing signs to the pitcher -- those are his fingers.
[71] You'd think a recession would do that all on it's own, but no... Kay is absolutely certain about where Singleton was conceived. That's creepy...
I love it when they go to second base for the third out and you see the little half-hearted slide from the runner that was on first. It's a touching moment.
[75] Michael Kay and Mike Francesa are by definition, creepy...
: )
[76] You must subscribe to the Pete Rose channel... take em out anytime they get in your way!
I think it would be good to skip three innings tonight. The O's can't be enjoying this game, and I know the Yanks wouldn't mind. And that way we might have a NY-Baltimore game that takes under three hours.
Is it too early for defensive replacements yet?
Just thought I'd ask...
[79] Aw, but what about the Cervelli-inspired late inning blowout?
Alex + popup = WTF!
wow ... i guess i picked the wrong game to show up an hour late to, eh?
got a scare when i didn't see Joba in there w/ a 6-0 lead, but I guess a line drive to the knee isn't *that* scary ...
meanwhile, Aceves is throwing up more zeroes ... one more inning and he's in line to pick up the win ... gonna have to change his nickname from the 'Mexican Gangsta' to the 'Vulture'!
Just checked in to see if OYF tried to avoid getting ahead of himself but nonetheless mused, nay ruminated upon the possibility of a sweep.
Yep. He did.
Good on you, old fellah. Know what, I'll join you on the musing barstools now. I said I'd be happy with 2, before it started. I'll be happier with 3, yessirree.
Cano with the triple-axle Big League Chew!
This is an awfully good game for Robinson.
[51] Yes, it does come with the territory, Alex. Mid-30s territory. You may remember I was wondering about it in April last year on the Banter, thought he looked bigger, slower then. Probably even more so now. They all get that way: remember the young Bernie, and the last 3 years Bernie? Same thing.
[82] The bottom of the first was a treat. Started the game with three doubles. A Swisher walk and a Melky double gave Aceves a nice cushion, and it's been kind of relaxing since then.
We need one of our resident Cassandras to drop in and point out that [insert horrible thing here] is inevitable.
"Jeter dancing over second base..." I'd love to see Jeter pop-locking after making an out at second, wouldn't you?
[85] Yeah, what you said!
[88] He'd only hurt himself again...
: )
[87] We need one of our resident Cassandras to drop in and point out that [another Chyll Will pun] is inevitable.
>;)
[87] yeah, it was a good inning, I went back and watched it on the HD feed.
c'mon, Girardi, let the 'Vulture' at least start the 5th!
[91] Hell, I'll do that myself!
[90] Not if he did The Worm... his pastadiving has given him plenty of options...
No surprise that they roughed up Eaton..but what is this about the Joba injury?? Is it very serious???
[94] Have you noticed since his oblique strain, he's not doing that as much?
I did...
[95] No x-ray results yet, OK...
[95] No word yet. It didn't look terribly serious. Liner caught him on the side of the knee; he stayed for two more batters but it was clear he couldn't do it and he kind of limped off.
[96] True. Oh well, no Electric Bugaloo then...
[95] No official word yet, but we're hoping for the best...
Sigh.
[97]-[98] Jinx!
Bleh! Who knew?
: /
Well, that was not optimal...
Screw Brian Roberts.
I hate this bullpen.
[104] The dirty pita!
[104] You misspelled "Jonathan Albaladejo".
That was a Little League catch. I made that same catch twice...
Another brilliantly successful inning for Alba! Only eight pitches, faced just four batters... of course there was that one hit.
So, if you go into a Men's Warehouse, try on a suit and yell "WTF!", do they give you money?
I love Nick Swisher sometimes. I like to see a little silliness and fun on the Yankees, especially these days.
gah. 2 hard hit balls, 2 outs.
That was a nice play...
Since Joba only threw 14 pitches, I sure hope he's still available for tomorrow!
: )
Wow. That one just destroyed Tokyo.
This small sample size is growing daily. : )
[112] 3rd one's the charm!
GO-GO GOJIRRA!!!
[113] ... but I like THAT much better.
[110] Commercial on tv?
I been gone too long..I only remember Crazy Eddie, "Nobody beats the Wiz" and Jacoby & Myers..
Sox beating up Blue Jays again..sigh..
[116] small sample size?
松井!
[121] Oh, nice.
Translation?
[121] Square³?
c'mon RIPPER!
[120] The great new stadium homer debate. The # crunchers claim it's too soon to call it a bandbox and all that other jazz. [107] It's just quicker to say Brian Robers. : )
[122] Matsui's name in Chinese characters
Pena would have had it.
we can't seem to get Judge Reimold out!!! : /
[125] oh, that.
i don't know what that homerun really has to do with that debate, about the only parks that wouldn't have been out of are owned by the Federal Government ...
[126] that's cool. my computer can't do that.
[126] Excellent.
It's too bad Mo is not available right here!
Crap.
Cue Mattpat...
crap. don't make a ballgame outta this...
freaking ty cobbington.
Wowzers, way to suck the air out the park!
Bring on Jose! Let's burn this ****er down!
oh, lovely, just lovely.
we should start calling Albaladejo, Elbaladejo, as in the island, which is where he should be exiled to.
aaaaaaand ... veras is warming ... sigh.
Jose Veras - when you absolutely, positively NEED to blow a seemingly insurmountable lead...
For some reason I'm still mildly annoyed that A Rod didn't move the runner over in the 1st. And the runner scored, too, eventually. I feel like his stat whore side saw all those doubles and said "I'ma get me some of that!" Or thought he'd top it with a HR.
i'd rather see Tikki Tikki Tomko finish this fucker out...
Does anyone else find those "Little Bit O' Luck" commercials icky?
Hey, Team. Can't believe this streak. Wish I could be more engaged, but it seems like we're firing on all cylinders.
I'm getting my YES back next month, as I can't bear not watching the games and my resources will permit at that time.
How are we doing? Anyone care to offer their general impressions of the team during this hot streak?
Yo soy un hombre sincero
De donde crecen las palmas
Al-ba-la-de-jo
Jonathan Albaladejo
Albala-deeeee-jo
Jonathan Albaladejo...
I wonder if Cervelli is getting too big for his britches. Say it aint so!
That wwas a Lucky play...
I think I'm most interested in Tex. As he looks like he's hitting, I'm wondering what kind of hitter he is.
Does he have the stuff to be the guy you want up with the game on the line in the ninth? (By which I think I mean to ask whether he's a guy that can be pitched to or can be easily fooled or will fail to make contact when it's needed.)
[142] I will say this: you would have loved seeing Cano's first two swings tonight.
The first was a line drive to the right-center wall for a double.
The second was a line drive to right-center, very similar hit, but a little harder and a little higher, still rising as it cleared the wall.
Now how will they ever convince him to be patient??
[141] Yep, but it might be because he looks a lot like a guy who used to give me root canals.
Bruised right knee, x-rays negative on Joba
Oh, fuck, what happened to Joba? Was he hit?
Robbie gets hits just by walking up to the plate and looking cool...
LOVE it when the RIPPER is in the house!
[146] Hm, he might not be the kind of hitter that you like to see in that situation, honestly, no. But he's hitting hard, often, even when he's made out.
Oh, I see I didn't mention in [147] that those first two swings of Robinson's were also the first two pitches he saw.
And there he goes again, jesus the guy is on fire. Also made a really terrific play in the field, throwing to second to get the lead runner on a grounder hard to his left.
Cano almost makes me believe in astrology. As in when his stars are right....man o' man.
Yes, Joba was drilled by a line drive off the side of his right knee. He pitched to two more batters but it was clear he couldn't continue. Limped off.
Walk, out, or homer???
blow it open, alex.
[146] yeah, i think he's that guy.
[153] It's amazing to watch him. Such a young kid with limitless potential, struggling to find consistency.
I can't wait to see him at thirty.
[156] Yes.
[157] If so, he should take a lot of pressure off of Alex. Well, as much pressure as can be taken off Alex, at any rate.
Batting second apparently agrees with Cano
So, here's a question. Suppose tomorrow we have the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth, down a run.
Who do you most want to see batting?
I would have liked to see A rod lay off that pitch
[162] Cano, zero question.
Actually, strike that.
I don't know, he's not too good with pressure himself.
[162] runners on? or empty?
Okay, does it change if there's only one out?
I have a surprising suggestion: how about Melky?
Is Mo available tonight?
wow ... Elba sucked in his 1st inning of work ... he sucked in the 2nd ...
guess what?
he still sucks in his 3rd.
[166] Well, "bases loaded" usually implies that there are runners on :)
The first three runs I didn't mind. This fourth one is BS. It actually kind of pissed me off. Bad job, Albaladejo.
[168] Yes, he only threw about a dozen pitches last night.
But aren't we going to see Bruney??
jesus christ. we're gonna need Mo, aren't we? i was hoping to continue helping our pythag. record. man, i don't wanna see Veras. i'd rather Tomko. pretty sad. wish we had Robertson or Melancon...
Cano's swing is so smooth, just a hoy to watch him hit line drives. Last time I was at the batting cages I had ONE Cano-esque drive out of about 60 swings..it made me happy :)
[174] er..a "joy" to watch..not sure what a "hoy" is..
[170] doh! missed that!
=)
Then, I'll go with the Bum.
Though if Robby was on one of his RIPPER streaks, I'd feel pretty good with him up there.
[175] Hoy is today, senor.
[167] I haven't seen Melky enough to know, but he seems to be a guy not too effected by pressure. He always looks kind of nervous to me, regardless of the situation.
Whereas, for instance, Derek always looks confident, regardless of the situation.
(I know, I know, this talk of pressure is so old-school! What can I say, you can't teach an old dog new tricks :)
[172] Oh, that's right, God, Bruney's back!
I'm missing everything!
"Good on you, old fellah".
Wow Hoss. You're lucky I can't find my teeth or I'd bite your ear off.
throw strikes, you cocksucker.
[141] I liked the one from "My Fair Lady" with the song...
[180] just use an old pair of chewed up drumsticks! ; )
I'm on record as a Melky supporter, but there are worse guys to have at the plate with bases loaded two outs. Jeter, Posada and Damon are probably your best bets.
did that one almost go outta the park?
i know he got 2 quick outs and didn't throw many pitches, but i sure as shit do NOT wanna see Veras again in the 8th.
Please, please, stop this embarassing exercise in cumpulsory faux patriotism.
[174] :)
My kid nearly took my head off in bp last week with just such a drive. Thing came back in a hurry and I felt a shot of adrenaline as I ducked.
A clean line drive does the old heart good.
[184] Yes, all three of those. Especially Damon.
I hope ARod's last AB doesn't cost us.
Ya know, I bought some stuff at Home Depot to Veraproof my couch.
[186] Learning to tune it out is your best bet. It's not going anywhere.
actually, on second thought, I don't think I'd like Cano anywhere near that bases loaded scenario ... here's his career splits with the bags full:
235/.244/.346
groundzilla on the 1st pitch...
[187] Yes, SUCH a nice feeling. I was smiling for hours afterwards..my lady thought I was insane..
Jays onthe board, can they take one against the BoSox??
Yeah, these days, maybe Damon, I'll have to go along with that.
[184] He's really a good hitter when he's healthy. I tend to forget that because he's not been healthy too much the last couple of years, but he really can hit.
[191] Yup.
[162] Damon
Blow Jays just blew a bases loaded chance. they're down by 1, late...
[192] It's that damned knee. Whenever that knee's acting up (which is nearly always) he just rolls over, constantly.
It didn't used to be like that when he was healthy.
[198] meant, down by FOUR. they scored 1. wishful thinking...
whoever pitches the 8th, just please make it uneventful and quick...
braves getting crushed here in Rainlanta. 9-0 Rox.
[197] Especially now that he's had a day off today...
[185] Hey, look who it is!
[199] Wait, you didn't see his home run. It was enormous. Godzillish.
hey, look it's Brian Bruney!
oh, wait ... it's Jose pitching the 8th.
i believe i can hear william apoplexing from across the country ...
good to see Jose getting those easy, non-threatening outs ...
[205] Man, you have a good ears...here's what I don't understand. If Veras is too risky for the 9th yesterday, what the hell is he doing in the game tonight?
Girardi believes that Melky needs more practice running back to the track. That's why Veras is still pitching.
[204] That's great. It's what he does when they don't go out that concerns me.
There's no reason for a hitter as good as he is to be hitting .250.
did that one almost go out, too? looked like the same spot of the last out of last inning? ugh.
[207] Mo is unavailable because he threw 14 pitches over two innings last night?
: )
[208] [207] Heh heh heh heh.
[210] Yes, they were both kind of scary.
X-Rays on Joba are negative. Bruised knee. Might miss one start.
[211] Mo is warming.
But where is Bruney???
[205] if your ears are that good, can you hear Freddie Hubbard's Red Clay playing from my apt?! ; )
Tokyo - BN is about to release a "new" Freddie Hubbard live set from the late 60's!
No, no, no, no.
Please no.
[215] hopefully beating some sense into Alba...
...
This would be the spot for Mariano.
How about this score: From ESPN...
"Joe Mauer hit a grand slam, two doubles and drove in a career-high six runs as the Twins routed the White Sox 20-1"
oh jeez...... There goes my couch.
The fact that Veras is going to face a batter as the tying run is absolutely inexusable. If anything highlights the folly of Girardi's decision with Mo last night, it's this. Hopefully, the Yankees don't lose a game as a result.
Meanwhile, is Bruney hurt again?
[221] and their run diff is still in the negative!
ty freaking cobbington.
Mo, please.
anyone but Veras...
Cool, now I know what Joe Girardi looks like when he's disgusted.
[221] That's called "a case of the red ass" over losing a four game set at Yankee Stadium...
why am i wishing for Tomko next inning?
whew. group exhale.
[221] 20-1 sounds familiar.
[221] Didn't we lose 20-3 or 4 v. Cleveland that time?
[207] hell, i dunno, sometimes it just seems like Girardi is managing by magic 8 ball.
[227] 'coz great minds think alike! : )
I'd really like some information from Kay and Kenny about where the hell Brian Bruney is. How about a little reporting here, boys?
[230] i think the 22-0 drubbing from the other year hurts more...
[231] Heh heh heh.
[216] I love "Red Clay"!! Alex B, if you are lurking tonight, you should check out "Red Clay" by Freddie Hubbard, you'll recognize that bass line immediately
If we score, can Mo sit? Or has he warmed enough that he's going to throw the ninth no matter what?
[233] Sam Borden is doing a VERY nice job filling in for Pete Abe, but there's no mention of Bruney there, either.
[233] yeah, if Bruney's available tonite and he wasn't in for the 8th by managerial whim, I'm gonna be a mite irritated.
[234] Oh, God, that's the game, right? Against Cleveland? We were shut out? What a farcical indignity.
[236] i played that tune in high school. just listened to the remastered version w/ bonus live track. Stanley Turrentine's Sugar, is going on next. they're kinda "sister" albums...
As for the Stadium HR debate, the fact that the Yankees are hitting them isn't a concern. The lineup can absolutely mash. Coming into the game, they actually had hit more HRs/AB at Camden Yards than the Stadium. Also, Tex and Arod have hit 8 HRs between them on this homestand, and they were either out or slumping for most of the road trip. Also, the Yankees have played 13 home games against the top-4 teams in giving up HRs.
What is concerning is the number of HRs this staff is giving up both at home and on the road. I am not sure what the cause of that is, but the Yankees need to figure it out.
[239] [231] "Hm, maybe Bruney. Let's see. OUTLOOK NOT SO GOOD. Okay, who else we got?"
pushups, Slappy.
[242] The cause of it is that Albaladejo and Veras suck.
Brett. Again with the weak fly to left. C'mon, dude!
garrett anderson up here for the bravos, 2 out, bottom 9, down 9-zip. man, i've never liked him and still don't. he ended the game...
I am not sure what the cause of that is, but the Yankees need to figure it out.
i believe the answer is filed under the heading of "Relief, Sucky Middle"
[245] [248] Oh, just a little too late, cult. Nice try, though.
3 more outs. let's do this quick 'n easy. bruney please. or Mo.
[245] don't forget our boy, 'NASA' Ramirez.
[241] Check out the "CTI All Stars: Live in California" (or some title like that)..live versions of both those cuts, with a smokin band. CTI put out a lot of crap later on, but the early 70s were grooving..
The only thing I can think of with Bruney is Girardi was saving him for the 9th in case the Yankees took a 4-run lead. In other words, he is managing to the save again, which, of course, is ridiculous.
That thinking would also expose the folly of yesterday because if Mo hadn't thrown the 9th, he could have been more freely used in a non save situation today, which would have freed Bruney to pitch the 8th.
At this point, I've given up trying to find any logic to Girardi's bullpen usage, which is dissapointing after how well he ran it last year. That's why I really hope they move Hughes to the pen when/if Wang returns. The fewer bad pitchers out there, the less Girardi needs to manage it smartly.
It's too bad Ryan Howard won't have the chance to hit Edwar. He'll just have to deflower the upper deck against someone else. Ha. Let's go MO!
just got in. see it has been an eventful game.
haven't seen the replay, but sounds bad- hopefully joba just misses the one start that oyf reported.
Jazz Tokyo:
On June 2nd Blue Note Records will release Without a Song—Live in Europe 1969 by trumpeter icon Freddie Hubbard, who passed away last December at the age of 70. Recorded at shows in England and Germany, the album features seven tracks performed with an all-star quartet, comprising pianist Roland Hanna, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Louis Hayes. The album captures Hubbard at the peak of his career during 1969's Jazz Wave on Tour that was produced by Sonny Lester and recorded by Malcolm Addey.
Win or lose, the bullpen might not be in the best shape this weekend, which is a problem with the lineup the Phillies have. It looks like no Aceves all weekend and Mo might not be available for at least one game. Also, if Bruney is hurt, that would leave a whole lot of Veras, Albaledejo, Coke and Tomko.
uh, is Bruney alright?!
[255] x-rays were negative. just a bruise.
Great play by Tex; Jones not running is pathetic.
[255] Didn't seem too bad. And maybe the one start Joba misses can be Wang's return? If so, then really no harm done.
Well, except that we had to watch a lot of Veras and Albaladejo, that's a real harm.
So that's what a good glove at first base looks like! I haven't seen that in years...
Sterling just said that Texeira "flips to Ramiro."
I think he thought Mendoza was out there.
Good old Mendoza. I really liked him.
[256] It shall be purchased
When was the last time Bruney pitched? Could they just be easing him back in?
it is the heart of the order. let's Mo 'em down!
[253] many people attributed torre's good bench decisions to zimmer. aftr watching girardi this year - and let me state i am not that down on him - but i wonder how much impact rob thomson had on the bullpen moves last year as bench coach.
Yay, so far its good Mo.
Nice and easy, Mo. Nice and easy.
where was that 3rd pitch?!
[264] oh yes.
I don't want to jinx it, but this could be a sweep.
[261] If Wang is really ready to return, now might be a good time to give Joba a 2-3 start break. It would not only ensure his knee is sound, but help maintain his innings limit.
Mo's ERA now under 3...
[259] [261] thanks cult and riyank.
Why is Kay STILL talking about Joba and Huff?
[263] i really like Ramiro Mendoza, also.
Hey, I just saw that it's Hamels vs. C.C on Sunday. That's a doozy.
I don’t like to get ahead of myself, but this series could easily be a sweep.
Well, that was a very pretty way to end the game.
Mariano Rivera, ladies and gentlemen.
NIce! Put that head to bed!
[275] Tired of talking about the time Ty Cob charged the mound against Ol' Hoss Radbourn?
all praises be to mo.
nonetheless it is so aesthetically pleasing to watch him.
From an offensive standpoint, this weekend's series could be interesting...and long...I wonder if the Yankees will make a move in the bullpen. I'd imagine Albaledejo might not be available for the next day or two, so maybe it would be wise to promote Robertson or Melancon in his place.
Nine!
[231] "Concentrate and ask again."
Sure beats Torre's magic cue ball, Don Zimmer!
You know the team is going greatly when the starter lasts 2/3 of an inning, and the crap of the bullpen holds the lead for Mo to close it out...
I'm impressed with this winning streak, really!
Have a great evening everyone!
: )
[278] good work.
are you trying to steal the tilte away from nostralarmis?!?!
[283] Sends shivers up my spine, every time. So much so that I get so greedy: I was actually disappointed that strike three was swinging and not looking. :)
Real nice. Get well soon, Joba.
Nice win, Team. Sorry to have missed all the offense, though.
[287] i'll put up a fight! we'll have to have a drum-off! ; )
good thing Mariano didn't pitch the 9th last night (rolls eyes).
YEAH YANKS!!
Wang is going to start in Pawtucket. If he pitches in that game like he did for Cashman, Girardi, and Eiland on his throw day, he'll be back on the roster. Hughes will start on his regular day Tuesday. Decisions after than are pending those results.

Papelbon has an abnormally high WHIP for someone with such a low ERA..how's he doing that?
I really, really hate that guy..it's a sickness and I am trying to fight it..but I really, really hate that guy..
[294] Papelbon has not been as dominant as in the past. His fastball command and velocity have been off...still his margin for error is high because he is still very, very good. I wouldn't go as far as saying he has been Wetteland-like lately, but...

Bring on the Phills
This one goes out to my young friend, OYF ...
I think I'll go out on a limb and call a sweep of the Orioles!
On the O's channel they were saying Wang starts Monday. No idea what they know. That's Hughes slot. If correct, and it makes sense, then Hughes can take Joba's Tuesday start and give him his one game off if he needs it. If Hughes was going to have some bullpen function, this weekend might have been a good time for it. Joba's iffiness may put the kibosh on that.
Odd win, but a win. How many games have we all seen where a team roars out, gets half a dozen, then more or less goes into cruise control?
BoSox dismantled young Jay starters in Fenway. AL East suddenly tight, and Tampa blew it, then won it. And only mid-May.
I think the Jays have begun their fade...their lineup was due to come down to Earth and their rotation after Halladay just isn't very good.
PJ, wouldn't Tuesday be Joba's regular start day on four days rest? Monday would be Hughes's. No?
from LoHud:
UPDATE, 4:40: Josh reports that Phil Hughes will get another start. Hughes will start Monday in Texas. Chien-Ming Wang will pitch a for Scranton tomorrow against the Pawtucket Red Sox.
“We just want to see him have the stuff he had in the bullpen,” Girardi said.
Thought they were off Monday... my bad...
Texas is not a nice place to get what might be your last-chance start for now.
Meanwhile: Veras Avers Saves.
I have to wonder why this issue with Wang was discovered so late... long after the surgery. I question the Yankee's medical staff.
[302] It should have good and bad memories for Hughes...it's where he was most dominant...and also where he suffered an awful injury.
[303] Probably because he hadn't pitched and performed so poorly until this April. I don't think anyone is surprised Wang was not at full strength to start the season...what is/was surprising was how bad he performed at less than 100%.
Is it safe to say the Yankees have finally left .500 in the past?
