There have been some strange imagery in Cleveland the past two nights as bugs and boids have swarmed the field. The little bugs floated through the air for the entire game on Saturday. From the center field camera it looked as if both teams were playing inside a bottle of club soda. Seagulls swooped and soared in the outfield and into the stands.
Fausto Carmona didn’t have much and the Yanks made quick work of him. Solo homers by Jorge Posada and Nick Swisher put New York on the board in the second, and they added five more in the fourth, thanks in part to a couple of errors by the Indians. Derek Jeter, who had the big hit in that inning, Mark Teixeira and Robinson Cano each collected two hits; Hideki Matsui had three.
CC Sabathia was strong early on, not as much after getting the lead, but he muscled his way through seven, allowing three runs. CC is pitching well, now (5-3, 3.46 ERA). And that’s a beautiful thing.
David Robertson looked good and threw a scoreless eighth, while Jose Veras, Felix Heredia’s heir apparent as the run fairy, gave up a couple in the ninth.
Final Score: Yanks 10, Indians 5.
Coupled with a Red Sox loss, the Yanks are now 1.5 games ahead of both Boston and Toronto.
He reminds me of Heredia too, Alex!
I hope they keep right on rollin' along!
Tomorrow is a day game, so we'll get Cervelli catching Hughes, and probably Posada at DH.
Why, AB, why is it that when I mention this song to people, they never believe it exists?? >;)
Will, that's weird. Can't call it.
Man, do I ever want the Yanks to put a hurtin' on Pavano tomorrow.
Magic dusted the Cavs. Dwight Howard with a monstrous game.
Hey, Team. Nice win.
I actually got to see the game tonight, only one of a handful I've seen this season. I went to a bar, had a delicious, delicious burger, a couple of nut browns, and caught a good four innings or so.
It was especially fun to watch as I've been coaching my kid's little league team, so I'm accustomed to some very, shall we say, introductory-level baseball. It's a nice to watch the pros do it and remember just how much work and training goes into making a major league (or really, any competent) baseball player. Routine plays are each and every one of them serious adventures before the kids learn through discipline and training how, for instance, to keep the ball from going through your legs.
That said, some observations.
Alex can fucking throw the baseball. That was one fine play.
Robby infuriates. One play he looks like one of my kids, groping bare-handed and lazily after a ball, the next, he ranges an incredible distance and nearly makes a spectacular assist to third. What's it going to take for him to be consistent?
Sabathia can pitch. He threw some very sick breaking stuff and according to the YES gun, maxed out only around 92, so really impressive outing.
That second rbi (I think it was) by Cleveland was a very, very fine piece of hitting. The kind of defensive swing that managed to punch the ball up the middle. Very nice.
Derek's ab was very sweet, the one where he battled back from 0-2 to run the count full before getting a solid base hit to left-center, I think it was.
It's so much better to watch baseball than to listen to it.
Jeter is playing really well right now.
The seagulls made me think of Dave Winfield.
The Veras situation has stopped being funny.
[3] It's cool. That's one of those tracks that you played in the background or heard out on the street and never listed to the lyrics because, well, the beat was cool anyway. I guess every generation has their nice tracks where listening to the lyrics is strictly optional and often best left undone. As far as songs that you wish didn't exist, I suppose any athlete who called himself a rapper, Shaq included, should be banned forever from all recording equipment not manned by sports media personnel. Oh, and Rapping Duke, Sheila E on Krush Groove and L'Trimm just made me feel icky...
I LIKE Rappin Duke...LOL

Yeah, I have to say I saw that play 100% differently.
Slowish chopper up the middle, already touched by CC, Cano was BEHIND 2nd already and moving in the opposite direction. His only chance was to barehand and throw in essentially 1 motion.
Frankly, I don't think he throws him out even if he makes the play and the play wasn't "made" because the ball didn't hop the way Robinson needed it to.
Not on Robinson at all.
