Carl Pavano goes for the Indians today against Phil Hughes. As you may know, Pavano has pitched well of late. This is not an amusing development for Yankee fans–it’s revolting, actually. I hope the bats keep it up this afternoon and put a whuppin’ on Mr. Pavano. It would also be nice to see Mr. Hughes throw another good game, wouldn’t it?
Happy Sunday and Let’s Go Yan-Kees.
i would hate to lose to Pavano
Go Phil Go!
Beat that Hafner, Martinez and Sizemore-less team... like a drum!
: )
ooh boy I get to watch this one on tv instead of on my computer. woo!
nice start
am sure it has been mentioned in the threads this week, but jeter is really pulling the ball of late
Bleh!
damn. a-rod just missed that.
damn, thought that ball was gone off the bat.
PHILTHY!
Pavano delenda est!
nice barehanded grab by Cano there.
i don't see how the indians can leave cabrerra at ss
[11] At least through tomorrow he should be there.
wow phil looks good!
nice work phil
hughes looks great.
we need to pound pavano into oblivion.
i hate chip caray. but it's nice to see the game on tv.
holy freaking hangover. : ~
[15] yes, need to pound pavano, and also hope that michael kay will stop talking about pavano
chip caray + hangover = worse times
wind is knocking everything to left and center down.
damn.
[16] yeah, i can't even put it on mute and listen to music, 'coz i...can't listen to music. at least Eck is good. a few Yankee runs would help the cause...
i LOATHE pavano. how in the hell is he pitching well?! : /
ugh team - this is carl pavano you are facing
Bleh!
Pressing a bit against the shitstain perhaps?
Feel free to cut that out guys!
Is it just me or when a pitcher sucks you can see it in his body language how uncomfortable he is, but when he's doing well, like Hughes is doing so far, then their body language looks different - like they are in total control?
Hughes just seems to have a different mound presence than last year, but these things center so much on emotion that I don't know if what I'm seeing has merit or not. That said, Pavano still looks like a big turd, pitching well or not, I want to see him get lit up, start to cry, and run off the mound throwing his glove into the stands. Eff Pavano! SERIOUSLY!
Man, I wish the Yankees' 2005 first round draft pick were in the majors ripping doubles down the line...
damn, why did their ball fall in?
[22] i agree - composure/mentality and execution seem very interwoven
Off to mow the lawn. But this time I'll actually be able to follow the game on the radio.
It's just a matter of time; Pavano will be Pavano before this game is done. Wait for it...
DP please.
alright phil- setlle in here
bollocks.
I wish I would have kept my mouth shut.
[30] it's all good, i believe Chyll in [26] is correct!
damn c'mon phil
he has to get his command just a bit more precise when coming inside
noodle arm.
jesus swisher - he does the same damn thing every time
Wow that was a terrible throw by Swish.
i hope this long inning ill affects pavano.
hughes is throwing an awful lot of pitches. i would expect to see CMW in this game.
crap!
ok, that was my fault, i left to go get coffee.
1st inning i've missed of hughes' in 2 games, 1st inning he gives up runs.
[22] Having the stuff to get into the majors is one thing. Having the confidence in your stuff to stay in the majors is quite another. Phil is exhibiting the confidence to stay up these days, where there was some doubt before. I think that's mostly attributed to his young age.
I'm troubled by what this AAAA ball lineup is did against him in that frame. The Indians are missing arguably their three best players today for Christ's sakes!
And the Yankees lineup simply must pound this asshat pitching against them! That's what first place teams are supposed to do...
[36] yeah already, 60 pitches, though i was surprised only 19 balls - lot of foul offs
I'm not sure why folks are surprised when Pavano pitches well. His issue with the Yankees wasn't how he pitched, but the fact that he never did. I was actually ok when he did pitch.
[36] They are holding CMW in case Pettitte's back either prevents him to start on his next turn, or they need a long man that day.
I don't think Wang gets into today's game...
Hughes can still squeeze a QS out of this one.
i also hate that pavano wears #44. that might be irrational, but who cares...
[37] damn you. ; )
there we go - nice hit arod (though you are still at turtle speed)
Unbelievable!
[41] not according to Petey:
Andy Pettitte remains the starter for Wednesday assuming his back continues to improve. If CMW doesn’t pitch today, he’ll throw a lengthy bullpen after the game. …
nice inning phil - now score some god damn runs team
seriously, the bottom of the 3rd was totally my fault.
no other explanation for it ...
Now there is the difference in Hughes today.
Outstanding job against those three there!
: )
good inning, kid. bats, we need bats to come alive.
[46] Well Cult, I got my information from Kim Jones...
*shrug*
kim jones is hot.
i hate chip caray & carl pavano.
i like kim jones
damnit brett - not good
Oops.
thank god errors aren't called on boneheaded plays like that- wouldn't want to ruin such a great streak!
In my "Official Scoring World" that is an error. Just garbage. Wind or no wind.
scored a hit. errorless streak still in tact.
not looking good...
ick.
hughes is hanging the curve right now.
whoa, where was THAT pitch?!
Hughes looks a lot less comfortable working from the stretch right now.
Command is off, curve is off.
BIG out, Phil.
C'mon, get the DP and go pound some Budweiser!
[53] she's a Penn Stater, too! my alma mater : )
[62] i'll take the DP, but... no. more. beer. it's evil. 3 days of imbibing TONS of ale. i feel like absolute death. : /
[64] well, no beer then no DP ... this one's on you.
=)
word press disallows me to say "noodle arm", for a second time.
[65] no beer til at least next thursday. this is brutal - both the game AND the hangover. not sure how much more i can last. might have to duck out for a nap.
it's my oldest nephew's 11th birthday today - this is no way to treat the kid. how 'bout a comeback victory for the young drummer!!! : )
[63] i can picture her eating at the college inn diner. or maybe not but still..
An outfield of Damon, Gardner, and Swisher is the perfect trio to allow the first ever sac fly from second base.
Hughes is battling his ass off, which is a tremendous improvement from a month ago! He deserves infinitely more from this lineup today! Gardner and Swisher are playing with their heads up their asses, and that fourth run is on them...
[69] hey, a mehmattski sighting!
haven't seen you around these parts much this season.
bullshit
Safe on the replay.
Oops.
[64] I woke up Sunday morning morning, with no way to hold my head that didn't hurt. The beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad so I had one more for dessert. On a Sunday morning sidewallk.........Thanks be to Johnny Cash. : )
I was on on all day Wine Tour yesteday. and then a late night. Oy. WE WAS ROBBED!! Effin umps.
yeah tex - that was drilled
Wind didn't touch *that* one!
BUM!!!
Back in the ball game. Screw you, Pavnano!
woo hoo tex!!!
should be 4-3
Petey with the 411.
Boo Kimmy!
FOX er um, I mean YES strikes again!
: )
[68] you mean, Ye Olde College Diner with the cinnamon grilled stickies?!
[79] well, *should* be 3-3.
Nice sinker there by CMW.
Everybody Wang-Hughes tonight. Everybody have fun tonight.
Wang!
[84] nice. i think Vinnie Colaiuta played drums on that!
wang's ERA is now under 20!!! bonus.
alex looked terrible on that belly flop.
[71] Hello! Busy times for me the last few months. I've only been able to comment during games every so often so far this season. And even that's only in the last few weeks, since I resolved a browser issue that caused Firefox to crash if I had both mlb.tv open and tried to log into wordpress!
Good to be here. Let's go CMW!
Valbuena should have Morphine as his at-bat music.
[80] I would still rather sit by Kim Jones at the ballpark on "Oral Sex Day" than Pete Abe!
heh heh
[83] I completely agree with that score, Cult!
crap, dusty and youk both went yard. sawx up 4-1.
Brains is aggressive behind the plate. me likey.
nice slide
FRANKIE CERVIX!!!
Hooray Frankie!
cmw looking much better - now finish pavano off
ZOMG!
Sinker in the dirt, pick and cannon!
Wow!
GAH. STOP PULLING THE OUTSIDE PITCH.
wow.
infield hit for Matsui.
won't see too many of those in the future.
Swiffer can be brutal to watch.
well, that sucked.
I'm quite weary of Carl Pavano's deal with the Devil, really!
[74] yeah man, i can't do the hair of the dog thing though...
pavano thru 7?! ugh.
[82] that is what i speak of.
wow, greinke gave up a 1st inning run. his era stands at .094
CMW down to 18.24 : )
[104] are you a penn stater or have you just visited there? i might go back this July. if so, i'll catch a minor league State College Spikes game.
worms burning in cleveland. wang = 17.76. good year!
[106] I lived near Clarion, PA for 10 years. Penn State was a frequent stop for this, that or the other. One org I was on the board of met there at a community center for a long time.
Francisco can't throw out Francisco. Makes sense, that would be like going back in time and killing your grandmother, or something.
[107] very cool. Central PA is beautiful country and Penn State/State College simply RULES!!! i miss it. i go back pretty regularly. hopefully i'll be there in July, we'll see. if so, the Diner will definitely be a late night stop! Golden Wok, is still the best Chinese restaurant!!!
[108] Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.
i think CMW looks terrific!
so, is that 2ks and everything else on the ground for CMW?
methinks the Wanger is back in business.
Worms, beware!
Wang = 17.31. now we're in Bach territory. JS was still going strong then, about 10 years after his brilliant Cello Suites.
[108] If Cano bothers to actually catch the ball, the runner is out... but I digress...
Another late comeback win would suit me just fine, thank-you. Will someone line one off Pavano''s shin already.
edwin jackson is throwing a gem for detroit.
[111] [112] yeah, very happy to see wang looking so much better - sinker is sinking, velocity is up, getting lots of groundballs - very nice work today
alright let's go po - carl was looking particularly douchey on the bench last inning
i hate carl pavano.
damn you Carl.
demonstrative derek.
I've decided it's not in my best interest to hate Pavano. Especially if he keeps shutting down the Yanks. Just don't need the extra frustration ...
hey, look 2nd infield hit in a row for Jeter.
i'm glad he's gone, but why is wedge pulling him?
time to win.
barely beat that out derek - step up your speed - but time to get a rally going
oh wow - toodle fucking ooh carl - that assclown actually pitched a good game - and wedge shows his continued incomptetence
[121] yeah, i'm not sure what's with the PDS around here. Pavano's a bit of a tool, but it's not like he's Steve Garvery ... or Hitler.
yeah, derek looked a bit slow on that. shouldn't have been that close.
definitely a head scratcher by wedge. notice how carl didn't protest. mussina woulda been furious if he was being taken out in that situation...
Johnny! nice dude!!!
nice hit jd - now tex's turn
nice to meet ya Rafael Perez.
nice, compounding 1 bad move, with another.
Tex has more power from the left side and the wind has been knocking everything down in Left ... so Wedge pulls the lefty and turns Tex around.
I'd love it if they got Hughes off the hook and gave Pavano the ND!
That would be justice served!
: )
Fun stat: 30 of the 62 batters Rafael Perez has faced in 2009 have reached base (including Damon's double).
[130] i would always try to face tex as a lefty
good eye, Tex. tie the game...
so much for the Rafael's...
Wow...
[133] HUH?
2009 OPS
vs LHP: .892
vs RHP: 1.169
not that wedge could have predicted an injury, but this move is looking even dumber now
[109] i've eaten golden wok! good stuff. Yeah, I love central PA. Allegheny National Forest is my favorite place in the world though. So more of a northern PA guy overall.
christ, Lester has 12 K's thru 6.
[139] nice. i lived in northeast PA, too. in fact, i taught music at the middle school where Mussina and his kids go/went... i have to admit though - Atlanta rules!!!
[137] OOPS, that's backwards. i'm a doofus.
=/
[141] my mom is from Wilkes Barre.
TEX!!!!!!
nicely done tex!!!
[137] http://tinyurl.com/moptgw
career splits are pretty close but better as a righty. more than that, you can really see that his swing (which is good from the left side) is much better from the right, where he can seemingly hit any ball hard.
doesn't seem to matter anyway.
woo hoo! what a shot!!
Woohoo Tex!
meanwhile, Teix is teh AWESOME!!!
[143] my mom is from Brooklyn! ; )
yes, should be 5-4 NY. let's make it that way now.
This game just went from a D+ to an A-.
Tex is anti-shabby. : ) Awesome
i'm not a fan of these Cleveland caps.
c'mon Alex!
c'mon
Alex!Cano!!!greinke's ERA has broken the 1 barrier (1.14)
[156] mental problems?
Please no Jose Veras. Please no Jose Veras. Please?
crappy game at the plate for Cano.
well, we'll see if Girardi has the same irresistable urge to manage for the sake of managing that Wedge had.
sometimes it seems like robbie is trying to foul off ball 4
[158] is veras up or are you just trying to give us all heart attacks?
That's great that they got the kid off the hook!
LOL @ Pavano's ND!
: )
it's still Wang!
[159] well, Wang is still in there, which is what I would have done.
[161] I didn't see him warming, but even so, his appearance in tie games is like committing seppuku.
c'mon Doodles, strikes and ground balls!
I like seeing Wang throw high and inside every now and then.
me no likey leadoff walks.
why do i hate garko so much?
[165] not even, there is honor in seppuku.
man, when Garko wears those shades, he looks like he should be an extra in an 80's movie ... like Cobra, or Scarface ... or on an episode of Miami Vice.
i mean that seriously- did he do something unforgivable against us?
should the yankees be wearing the new stadium patch on their hats on the road? i'm thinking...no.
hell yeah!
nice sinker there wang
[166] strikeouts are also welcome ...
nice work.
16.07
nice recovery, CMW ... that inning was a little more shaky, location wise, but no lasting damage done ...
c'mon boys, let's hand it over to Mo
wow - jeter, damon & tex have all hit their 12th doubles of the season today.
Wang looks good overall. Hope to see him starting again soon.
swisher bunting is going to be an adventure
[180] wow, maybe not - nice bunt -
Who was that dude last year or so who made his first appearance as a pinch runner and promptly got picked off? That was rough. : /
I'm back. Lawn planted, tomato plants mowed. Er, something like that. Soooo. . . .
1) Wang back to the rotation, Hughes down to AAA?
2) That Pavano guy, he's sure pitched well against the Yankees. Should NY sign him for next year? I mean, it looks like all the other Indians are going down with injuries but him, so he should be durable, right?
aaaah, Gritner refusing to hit the low inside fastball drives me crazy.
[182] i think justin christian
nice slappiness brett
gardner deserved a hit. glad he got it.
Let's go Jorge. Sac fly is all I'm asking for.
[185] Grazi. I'd send Lil' G.
score.
[183] it is kind of liked Pavano passed off his disease on the rest of the cleveland team.
Nice! First lucky bounce our way comes in the 9th.
why isn't gardner running?
Sigh.
NIce job, GIrardi. Dope.
bollocks...
damnit - not what we were looking for
[188] - they should have sent gardner, this is where girardi frustrtaes me some
i hate word press.
wow, espn gamecast had the 2nd strike low and on the corner. tbs had it middle of the plate, high, as a ball...
what the fuck? that's total bullshit. the guy is throwing balls all over the place, fastest runner on the team on 1st, gidp monster at the plate, go ahead run at 3rd. how is gardner staying put?
sox piling it on. k-rod got his 14th save...
Joey Joe Joe vs Double Down on Dumb Wedge ... steel cage Death match of Lousy Managing.
coke is...in.
i think Wang could've gone 1 more...
we better win this goddamn game.
I try to lay off Girardi, but I don't want to hear whatever bullshit excuse he offers up for not having Brett run. Bollocks, indeed.
well if we can survive to the 10th we get to face luis vizcaino
no. leadoff. walks.
damnit!!!
maybe in a situation where the batter is obviously bunting the catcher should always stand
maybe in a situation where the batter is obviously bunting the catcher should always stand
robertson in - need some k's buddy
robertson coming in...
KC in old school powder blue uni's...
i'm glad he's going to robertson here but why not just let him start the inning against the switch hitters?
i've played in Tuscaloosa. it's a long way from Queens...
Here's to you Mr. Robertson. A few outs is all ya' need.
don't lose him.
lost him. bastid.
it's lookin' like Wang - or Mo - shoulda started this inning.
Indians PA just played "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath, during that visit.
i think wang was done. i just don't understand why you go to coke without any real lefties coming up.
Gotta bring in Mo if Coke loads the bases.......
If Girardi had little faith in Dave before....Ugh. We may not seem him again until July. What an effin' lame loss.
Mute point. SHIT!!!!!
shitty game
game over. total bollocks.
What a terrible game by the team, really.
Teixeira 4 - Indians 5
Terrible job by most everyone else, particularly Cano and his lazy ass!
Hughes and Wang deserved better than this against a team with their three best players on the shelf...
I really think the Yanks need to decide, Hughes or Chamberlain in the rotation. Two bullpen abusers - especially in a row - is no good.
well, that sure felt inevitable after the debacle in the top of the 9th.
should have and could have won this game - blah
if that call against Jeter was correct, we would've had a 5-4 lead and Mo would've started the 9th. we win. complete and utter bollocks.
[223] Tex should've had 5, Indians 4.
damn
Not having Gardner steal second was really idiotic.
it would have been interesting to see who would have pitched against the lefty choo with the bases loaded had robertson walked peralta.
at least we didn't make an error. well, it was a somewhat generous call for gardner...
Did Coke give up that hit or Robertson?
robertson.
[224] they need to split them up since neither is that efficient and both are on restrictions
let's hope we win the series tomorrow night. Joba needs to throw at least 6 effective innings. i'm sure we'll see Ace manana...
[228] True, but with this team, he shouldn't have to do it all himself.
Swisher is a cheap imitation of a MLB player, and when Cano mails it in, he's practically as bad!
Po should have kept his day off intact.
Too many things wrong with this game, and they let this team of schlubs back in the series...
Bleh!
2 Relievers, 2 walks. Not a good way to save a ballgame.
Grrr, grumble grumble grumble.
Oh well, at least Wang's looking better.
