Do You Know Who Mickey Mantle Was?

frenchconnection2a

Okay, here’s a tough scene but a vivid and compelling one. It involves baseball, and more specifically, the Yankees.

From The French Connection Part II (which is as grimey as they come). Our hero Popeye Doyle, the Ugly American himself, goes to Marseilles. Bad Guys catch him, tie him down and get him addicted to dope. Eventually, they leave him in the guter. With the help of a French detective he dries out.

This is Hackman at his best:

Excellent scene; Hackman's an actor's actor, very respected without being a marquee superstar. I'd have his career over Tom Cruise's, though Johnny Depp seems to have found the formula to combine both. But Gene's a master of the character role and one of the best in the biz.

"Mickey Mantle suckzzz..." lol >;)

I think Hackman might be my all time favorite. If not, he's at least in the discussion.

My favorite Hackman role was The Blind Man in Young Frankenstein.

Classic!

No JoPo in the lineup tonight. I wish he was the DH, instead of Mats.

What's the weather up north? it's POURING here and i know the ChiSox are in a rain delay. either way...

GO YANKS!!!

Jeter SS
Damon LF
Teixeira 1B
Rodriguez 3B
Cano 2B
Swisher RF
Matsui DH
Cabrera CF
Cervelli C

I take it that Sabathia has priority over Burnett, Chamberlain, and the two-headed Wang/Hughes monster when it comes to the "Posada is not catching my games!" Department...

I would offer up that if every pitcher on the Yankees had their choice, Po would only be chosen to catch by Pettitte and Mo.

oh, i don't doubt that CC would rather have Brains catching him; i'm fine with that. and it's always a good thing to rest Jorgie. it's just that, in this game/series, against this team, at this ballpark, i'd rather have Po in the lineup as DH, instead of Groundzilla.

btw, it's beautiful and sunny here now! crazy weather... : ~

yeah i am a big hackman fan.

[7] and i'd rather see po dh than matsui as well.

[6] i think even andy would not choose po if he could have either molina or cervelli (though not irod as andy flatly refused him last year)
that just leaves mo.
