I'm in the ATL for the game. Hopefully the Yanks can win the series. I hope turner field will be like thealarmis described it last night (Yankee Stadium South).
[2] yo, evil! i'm sure it will be like Yankee Stadium South again! last night was like a playoff game in Da Bronx. it was awesome. i've got on a jeter t-shirt and backwards yankees hat. i'll be headed over to The Ted in about a half-hour.
are you section 224? that's left field along the 3rd baseline. i'll be left-center. Yanks should take the field around 5:40pm. yesterday, they stayed until 6:25. i think you can walk around and be by the dugout and stuff, until 6:10pm.
you can also bring in food, beverages (in plastic bottles, no alcohol), etc. hopefully, we'll meet up. if not, have a great game and GO YANKS!!!
btw, it's "thelarmis". no extra "a" in there. Shaun P. always does that to me!!! ; )
[4] cool man. I'm in section 226. But I will definitely head down to the dugout. I'm in a jeter roadie - open with a blue Tshirt -
and a Yankee hat and my buddy is in a cano T-shirt.
Sorry about the name. Remember I'm tall. I will look for the pony tail.
[0] Me too. ha. My wife actually has remnants of a little blue blanket from when she was baby. It is competely in tatters and I tell her occasionally that our dog ate it. She finds this unfunny.
[31] Me too.
I was envisioning Teixeira repelling D-Lo's pitches, Giambi-like, forcing a walk. Lowe appears to be immune to that power. Fortunately, we have other powers (again, finally...).
Well, not complaining, exactly, but five hits and a walk, and one of the hits is a homer... and we get just two runs? That's very inefficient. Of course, the right call on that Ransom "foul" would have made [25] indubitably correct...
[49] i guess that. completely funny. This half-ass review stuff is stupid. They need to just use it for all reasonable calls, but have a specialized crew that does it real fast.
[50] Ransom rocked a ball up the third base line. In bounced, then crossed over third, then bounced in foul territory. But it pretty clearly crossed third base fair. The ump without hesitation called it foul.
[54] Dunno -- maybe I wasn't watching at the time?
The umpiring in Atlanta has been particularly bad, I think. Not the balls and strikes, the base umpires.
Hm, is Kenny right about that? With nobody out, is it more important to try to get that lead runner on a tough play, and with one out already you can just go to first (as Andy did)? I'm not so sure about that.
I'm imagining WilliamATL23 typing furiously over at Peach Banter:
McClouth swings at ball four against a very weak pitcher. That's inexcusable. Somebody has to be held accountable for this pitiful hacking.
[94] well, it sort of makes sense. with two outs you can really focus on just getting the batter. to let a batter get to 2nd without having an intact doubeplay setup with only one out is a tough situation. Plus running on second or third with 2 out cannot advance on sac fly
[128] It's classic Pettitte, really. In the sense of, what he's been doing for the past couple of years.
Also, this could be a good day for some Dave R. and some AA...
Wow, we don't really have a guy who you'd like to burn so Girardi won't use him in a key situation. I could get used to this.
The problem with this five run lead is that any extra runs scored just don't count--it's simply running up the score. Good teams are able to save the extra runs from today and use them later against a tough pitcher. Blowouts are unacceptable.
More seriously, Gardner has been such a pleasant surprise. Obviously he's not as good as he is when he's hot. BUt if he can hit around .750 OPS with a million SB, that's not a bad starting CF. Not great, but not bad at all.
[129] Yeah, you could hear the ball saying, "wheeee!!!"
I dunno, the critics have been ripping the new Transformers movie, yet the general public is swarming. To me that's a double whammy; I generally do the opposite of what the general public likes and although I don't align myself with movie critics, the idea that you have to ignore the plot (or lack thereof) and instead watch young folks glistening in computer-generated danger doesn't appeal to me.
[144] Agreed! Hollywood can go all 28 Days Later for all I care..(though only recently discovered who Megan Fox was, took awhile for her to "arrive" in Japan..yowza..)
Great start to the game, and BoSoxl losing!
News here all morning is about MJ..he was a "god" in Japan, lots of crying fans being interviwed..although not a huge fan, another major piece of my youth is now gone..I understand now why my father was so choked up about the Mick dying in the early 90s..
[146] I have created a monster with my own sarcasm. So, for clarification, are you being serious or sarcastic. I suspect you are serious, and you are probably correct. He is hitting around .760 right now, but that's with a fairly high BA. He's have to hover around .280 or .290, probably, to keep his overall OBP up.
[160] Well...yes. Flawed geniuses who had enormous cultural impact on their respective generations..is that off-base? As I said, am not a huge fan, but am sure a lot of people who are, are very sad right now..I remember being perplexed at all the old Yankee fans in Brooklyn who were practically in tears when the Mick died..but it was part of their childhood, now gone forever..and a reminder of their own mortality? (arm-chair/dime-store psychology)
[161] Interesting way of looking at it--walks come from power. That's probably true in large part. However, if one can hit enough (hit for average) and has good zone judgment, the walks will come. He's on pace for about 50 walks over a full season. Not great, not too awful. Hmmm..
It's time to get Pettitte out of there right now. He has been awful all game and is on the verge of throwing a win back. I wonder what Pettitte will blame after today's game.
When someone asks does a manager really impact games, this is Exhibit A. Pettitte should have been lifted much earlier in the inning, but as usual Girardi was asleep at the wheel. Absolutely increidble.
Pettitte wasn't gonna come out for the fifth anyway. Why leave him out there when he was obviously gassed? Sometimes ignoring pitch counts goes the other way - he was clearly sapped, sub-100 pitches notwithstanding.
Even more inexcusable, Pettitte was nearing 40 pitches in this inning! What the hell was Girardi watching. One wonders if Girardi was simply defering to his former teammate, which is yet another reason why Girardi is not the man to manage this team.
[205] Exactly. He wasn't "asleep at the wheel." In fact, Sterling and Waldman mentioned that he step out of the dugout briefly, then returned. He obviously though that, with two outs, Pettitte good sneak out of the inning. He was wrong, and his poor judgment should be criticized. But he should, then, take the blame for an active error, not passive negligence.
[211]Great managing Joe…win or lose, yet another awful game for the Girardi file.
That's interesting. The manager is evaluated by results, but even if they win he should be blamed?
I actually agree with you--Pettitte should have been pulled (and you called it early, to your credit). At the same time, I am enjoying the rhetoric on these threads where every action by Girardi is taken as incompetence, no matter the result.
[213] Man that's nit-picking. We don't know exactly what prompted Girardi to not make a move but the fact is, he fucked up. What Aceves's presence suggested and what Suzyn "observed" (I fairly certain she's talking out her ass, from what I saw) are beside the point.
[216] No, not really. You said he was asleep at the wheel--i.e., not paying attention. That is clearly not the case. he was paying attention, he simply evaluated the situation differently (and wrongly).
You can cry semantics. I'll cry failure of english idiom. You wanted to use "asleep at the wheel," even if it meant employing the phrase inaccurately.
[218] don't you know that everything is Girardi's fault? Like that time that Swisher wanted a 7-Up on the team charter but all they had was sprite? Girardi's fault.
[219] I agreed he fucked up. I objected to failure to employ english idiom properly. Maybe I'm sensitive because I read hundreds of poorly written student papers.
[225] It's hard to gear down when the rhetoric is so relentlessly negative about everything, to the point where it is hard to differentiate serious analysis and observation from sarcasm or raving. It's hard to know the context when complaints of various degrees of accuracy are thrown around will nilly. At least no one has called anyone a racist yet.
[232] (1) maybe because he struck out the first guy and because at least 2 of the baserunners in the inning were due to bad defense/lighting.
(2) he's 2+ braves runs away from his comfort zone.
[232] I would argue Andy will continue to get the benefit of the doubt because Girardi is trying to help him get his innings incentives. Despite his win total, he's been very "last half of last year-ish" in terms of stuff. Obviously, the defense didn't help, but he was walking too many before those lapses anyway.
Maybe he's getting a percentage of the $5M in bonus money if Andy gets it...
The Sox already won two of three and @ the Nationals. I'm sure if the Yanks did the same no-one would complain. Even losing one of three at home wouldn't have been disastrous.
[252] I have in fact addressed the negativity, multiple times. Occasionally I am caught offguard--apparently asleep at the wheel--by commenting on a flawed argument or an obscure point, usually because imprecise use of language. I'll have to work on that.
[252] I didn't say you hadn't addressed it, but that you may as well address it again instead of projecting onto technical matters. "Instead" was the operative word there.
[261] I hope that isn't the case to be sure, but Girardi and Pettitte go way back, hence it would not surprise me, considering the lack of integrity with the players in general...
[255] I agree that Andy will continue to get the benefit of the doubt. I assume in this case, that Girardi figured: he didn't get hit all that hard and he was let down by his defense. When he got to two outs, maybe he can get the third out and escape the inning. Then we can milk five innings out of starter instead of having to go to the BP--especially the good relievers--in game where we had a six run lead.
I'm sure other irrational motives entered into it: I know Andy, he's a gamer, a veteran, etc.
[255] Or it could be a case of Pettitte being in Girardi's circle of trust... Combine that with the horrid bullpen that Cashman foisted on him, it's not a surprise that Pettitte stayed in too late
who the hell would vote for glavine over smoltz and maddux? i personally always thought smoltz was the best pitcher in that he was the only one of the 3 i never wanted to face. but obviously maddux is a deserving choice as well. but glavine is not.
[272] About what?
It's utterly absurd to say that "nobody would have complained" if the Yankees had lost one out of three instead of two out of three to the Nationals. Completely, utterly absurd.
[276] Agreed... I would have been "less than livid" if the Yankees lost one to Washington... as I was "livid" that they lost the series... "explosive" had they been swept... nay, "canceling my MLBEI" is more like it...
[276] Stop sleeping at the wheel. OK, I have to take a walk. See y'all after the game, which win or lose proves that Girardi is an even worse manager than Joe Torre.

Ha, another L hung on Wang. This time because the Yanks couldn’t even score 3 runs against the Nationals.
It’s despicable, really. The Nats win one out of every four games. That’s ****ing horrible.
[311] don't you know that any time he calls a play that might have helped earlier this season he's making a mistake by showing that he knows that that play can be called at all??
By the way, I think that IBB was probably a mistake. I guess the point is that two runs for the Yankees would be enough to put the game nearly out of reach, so Teix isn't a big run. But, you know, pressure on the new reliever to throw strikes, and if he gives Alex anything too good, ball game over.
Brilliant move by Girardi sending the runners, therefore causing Cox to load the bases. Since this isn't a clutch situation, he knew ARod was going to get the big hit
[276] I said if the Yanks won 2 out of 3 AT the Nats, and maybe technically it's untrue, but the grousing would have been minimal as opposed to the outcry for them losing 2 of 3 at home - both being reasonable responses. Some people want to compare what the Red Sox did vs the Nats to what the Yanks did and the comparison is ludicrous.
[346] I thought he always looked like that.
But, uh, how do I put this. You don't think it could be drinking, do you? I mean... you know... like his predecessor.
[388] why do you repeat a question you know the answer to? i acknowledged in [301] that the game was at home, not in washington, but i still think it's good evidence that at least some people would have been upset with just one loss.
G.Soto of the Cubs tested positive for pot at the WBC...of course he said it was an "isolated incident"..that line didn't work for me at 16, why do athletes even bother??
[395] You're wrong in assuming I know the answer. Your use of the quote to me was inappropriate to to what I was saying, since I was talking about reaction to series result, and not one game. That's why I asked you to clarify, because it doesn't make sense to me.
People may have been upset with a loss but my point was attempting to use the Red Sox one loss @ Nats to mock the reaction to the two Yankee losses at home to the Nats is either deluded or disingenuous.
met Evil Empire and his buddy. he's a super nice guy! that's the 4th person i've met from the Banter and it's always been great!
once again, insanely ridiculously HOT girls everywhere. just unreal. Evil and I saw a perfect supermodel. Jazz Tokyo would completely disagree! ; )
90+ degrees, is REALLY just too damn hot. ugh.
i didn't pay quite as much attention tonight as i did last night, but for good reason. i'll spell that out in a separate post. it's worthy...
bruney was lookin' spry in the outfield, shaggin' flies during BP. toward the end of the game, he climbed the dugout wall and waited there for quite awhile for a little boy to make his way thru. bruney handed him a ball. it was really nice. now if he'd only shave that godforsaken 'stache...
hughes was good again shagging balls and didn't pay much attention to the crowd hounds. Mo, was his typical self during BP. no Wang, AJ or CC out there today.
A-rod came thru with some big clutch hits! Cody even got in the act. Andy totally fell apart. i think it was in the 4th...
47,508 at the game. i'd say a solid 30,000 Yanks fans. it wasn't quite as loud as yesterday, but we still outnumbered Braves fans, both in number and volume!
i still hate Garret Anderson.
i still hate the NL. did NOT need to see Coke foul out bunting, but whatever. i haven't read the game thread yet, but from texting with Cult, it appears my "nostralarmis" tag might be getting "pipped"! just to let you all know - i called McCann's shot in the 9th. it's true...i did!
Mo shouldn't have been in the game, but i'm soooo glad he was. once again, the place just erupted when he entered. it's so cool to watch his measured gait to the mound. the place was emptied out by then, but us Yankee fans made some SERIOUS noize there at the end. it was awesome.
our bats came alive. i think we scored in the last 4 frames yesterday and the first 4 today. good work! must be all Cashman. ; )
i will be the BIGGEST braves fan this coming weekend, though i will stay faaaaar away from that stadium.
yesterday, i saw 1 "B" hat and t-shirt. today, was just a little more. buuuuut, there were 2 idiots clout out in FULL shit sox uni's. weird. one was papelbitch, the other lowell (who i don't like). anyway, Yanks gear was covering the entire stadium. beautiful!
i think that about does it here. i've got a wonderful story i'd like to share with you guys, if that's okay. here it comes...
my seats today were left-center, 2nd row. i'm glad i brought my glove, as it was prime real estate. when i got to my awesome seat, i noticed a handful of little boys in the front row, all dying to catch a baseball. most in red Braves t-shirts and 1 bigger kid in an A-Rod jersey. i took inventory and immediately targeted the youngest one. a little blonde boy that looked eerily similar to my middle nephew (who's a switch-hitting little slugger up in Queens!), and could've easily been me when i was 6 years old (except that this kid was tan!). i told myself right away that if i caught a ball, i'd give it to the little one straight away.
i had no idea which kids were related, if they were related, and didn't see any parents. after a few minutes, the little one decided to go to his mom, who was 1 row behind me and off at the end (i was in the middle). i held the seat down for the kid to hop the row and was gonna tell him of my plan, but he was really shy with his head down. i eyed the kid back to his mom and we smiled. she was a VERY pretty lady and had no ring on her finger. i gave her a quick smile and focused on the field, hoping a ball would find my glove.
it did.
i believe it was Coach Mike Harkey who threw it. even little underhanded lobs coming straight at your face, seem fast and tough to catch. or maybe, i just got old along the way and lost all of my skills! the ball was coming straight toward me and i knew no matter how many arms jumped in front of me, it was mine. it hit right in the webbing of my old, red daryl strawberry mitt and i felt the ball run up. i couldn't lose it and squeezed tighter.
in one fell swoop, i caught the ball, hopped a row behind me and walked it over to the little boy. he was thrilled. it had the MLB logo and a fresh grass stain. i don't know who hit it. doesn't matter. the mom thanked me, i smiled and returned to my perch, in hopes of snagging another, which would've gone to my aforementioned nephew. (sorry Ms. October!!!)
not long after, the mom came up to me with her eyes filled with tears. turns out, little Aydin had a seizure on Saturday, out of the blue. his jaw locked up, he couldn't speak and half of his face was paralyzed. he was completely healthy prior to that and seemed to come out of the seizure okay, but tests have proven otherwise.
he just had an MRI and brainwave exam on tuesday (EEG, i think?). anyway, he was scheduled for tests a coupla weeks from now, but the Dr.'s didn't like what they saw and moved the appointments up. apparently, it's not good and the little boy is VERY sick. we'll know more on Tuesday...
the mom is a lifelong Yankees fan from Massapequa. turns out, she is married (boo!) and the husband/father, is in Boston on business. she invited me to watch the game in their empty seat and i happily obliged. so, i didn't pay quite as much attention to the field as i did yesterday. there was an older brother too, and he was a great kid and outgoing.
i left my info. with the woman and hope she'll contact me with some wonderful news regarding her baby boy, sometime in the near future.
illness & death doesn't discriminate against age. my grandpa would've been 97 about 2 weeks ago, but left the planet in March. this little boy is only SIX!!! please let him be okay. please.
i wish i could share this story with Todd Drew.
i hope to go to Aydin's Little League games in the future...
I wish I could have stuck around to debate the proper use of English idioms, but I was asleep at the wheel.
Also, for the record, usingenglish.com defines "asleep at the wheel" as:
"If someone is asleep at the wheel, they are not doing their job or taking their responsibilities very carefully. 'Asleep at the switch' is an alternative."
In other words, by failing to lift Pettitte, I think Girardi was not doing his job very carefully. One might disagree with that assessment, but the reasoning definitely fits with the idiom.
Finally, while it's great that they held on to win, you can't simply ignore what was a very glaring mistake. I can understand why one would get weary if every move Girardi made was scrutinized, but the reality is he is making high profile mistakes in key situations that deserve inspection.
UPDATE, 9:06 p.m.: This whole mess started when the pop-up fell between Damon, Jeter and Gardner. Damon’s ball all the way, too.
i'm not sure what ballgame Petey was watching, but the ball wasn't ANYWHERE close to Damon. it was on the 2nd base side. Damon didn't even need to flinch. the ball was hit kinda in no-man's land. this is tailor made for Jeter and he had a beat on it.
but Gardner is so freaking fast (he really is, esp in person. wow!), he was making way. it's easier charging, than going back, so i guess he called off the Captain. Jetes was closer to the ball but looked up at Brett toward the last second. Gritner just couldn't come up with it. Damon coulda been hangin' in the bullpen, as it was nowhere near him and NOT his ball!!!
who knows what it looked like on the replay. perhaps someone spiked my smart water. but from where i was, it had NOTHING to do with Johnny.
btw, near the end of the contest, these 2 young, idiot, drunk kids, moved to the front row and were heckling johnny, trying to impress their girlfriend's. it was excessive though. one dude was a racist and making "oriental" eyes at Johnny. the dipshit probably doesn't realize Damon's mom is from Thailand. the other schmuck was calling him a sellout for shaving his beard. apparently, he didn't remember that A) Damon played for TWO other teams before the Shit Sox and B) the ONLY reason he grew the beard and his hair, was b/c of the nasty concussion he suffered in the collision with Damian Jackson.
heckling is cool, but don't be racist and know your facts. don't worry, us Yankee fans in the section drowned the dumbasses out pretty well! : )
oh, and the Braves really had FIVE errors! Frenchy let a ball roll around early and a runner took an extra base. i think it was damon's triple, not positive. and escobar had a miscue that went for a hit. one of cody's hits, could've been an error on Chipper. sloppy game all around, but fun...and we WON!!! yay! : )
LOL
That's another of my favorites, Alex. They sure don't make them like that any more...

I'm in the ATL for the game. Hopefully the Yanks can win the series. I hope turner field will be like thealarmis described it last night (Yankee Stadium South).
me no likey:
UPDATE, 3:57 p.m.: Cano scratched. No word why.
[2] yo, evil! i'm sure it will be like Yankee Stadium South again! last night was like a playoff game in Da Bronx. it was awesome. i've got on a jeter t-shirt and backwards yankees hat. i'll be headed over to The Ted in about a half-hour.

[3] Yikes, I hope it's just a tweak of sumpin'. Trade, maybe? Nah,
[5] no trade.
UPDATE, 4:29 p.m.: Cano has his left wrist taped up but says he’s just getting a day off. Still, he was in the original lineup.
Cabrera not in the line-up again? Combined with that weird story about the line-up yesterday makes me wonder what's going on.
[6]
CO-dy RAN-som {clap, clap, clap-clap-clap}
CO-dy RAN-som {clap, clap, clap-clap-clap}...
[7] rock on. okay, i'll walk down to the Yankees dugout a little after 5:30 or so. i didn't go down there yesterday, just went to my seat.
i'd like to go back to my seat for most of BP though, 'coz i'm actually bringing my glove and hope to snag a ball for ms. october! : )
see you soon!
[9] ugh. i don't know that i can do roll call for him! ; )
i'm running outta text messages, but if i can have one of the pitchers throw me a BP ball, i'll text Cult and let y'all know...
have a good game, people!
[0] Me too. ha. My wife actually has remnants of a little blue blanket from when she was baby. It is competely in tatters and I tell her occasionally that our dog ate it. She finds this unfunny.
[10] cool!! good luck thelarmis :}
Whoa. Some sources are reporting that Michael Jackson has died.
[14] Not yet, though it's not looking good with him in a coma
Waiting for a more credible sources than TMZ
CNN the last one to report it. MJ is dead.
CBS, E!, and the LA Times have already reported the death.
Where's the goddamn game thread?
Where's Melky?
[18] melky's got the flu ... not sure why the game thread is sick
=)
[19] Thanks for the info, anyway. I'm sick too. Me and the Melkman.
[19] No game thread is unacceptable...
We'll just have to use this one!
: )
[20] and supposedly matsui too.
i'm calling a big game for alex tonite.
[22] They should have went to Bone's to eat...
: )
[23] I'm calling a big first inning.
Okay, I may have waited until that prediction isn't so far out on a limb...
Hey guys. Don't know what happened on the game thread. I thought it was covered elsewhere. Maybe we got our signals crossed.
As for MJ, I can't help but think suicide. Let the Elvis comparisons begin. I'd say he'll be missed, but he already was.
[25] ...
Damn, my fault!
A D-Lo special.
Wow!
Cult 1, RIYank 0.
Well, maybe I can get half credit, it's at least a crooked inning.
[23] yeah, that's 2 nights running boys, I CAN'T BE STOPPED!!!!
Nostralarmis, you've been *PIPPED*!
[28] I like [23] mo better...
: )
energy boost?
[32] Must be the "sweet tea"...
[31] Me too.
I was envisioning Teixeira repelling D-Lo's pitches, Giambi-like, forcing a walk. Lowe appears to be immune to that power. Fortunately, we have other powers (again, finally...).
[29] you still got a shot too!
gritner ... get 'er done!
[35] Agreed... four hits is a "big inning" for them these days...
: )
[37] Four plus a walk!
Oh, freaking perfect.
Gardner special!
Five hits*
Speed kills!
LOL @ Ransom's first AB back is with the bases jacked...
*Fingers, toes, eyes crossed*
nice camera work by yes there. pretty sure he was safe though.
damn, damn, DAMN!
nice start, lets hope they win this one for MJ
WHAT??
The replay shows it pretty clearly fair!
that was fair!
Well shit! I'll give RIY full credit for his prediction...
: )
funny that a solo hr can be reviewed but a 3 run double can't
what was fair?
[53] thanks. didn't they get another one of those wrong a few days ago?
[54] Dunno -- maybe I wasn't watching at the time?
The umpiring in Atlanta has been particularly bad, I think. Not the balls and strikes, the base umpires.
on great news, smoltz is being rocked
[56] Oooh. Thanks, I forgot to scoreboard watch!
Not that I have anything against Smoltz.
c'mon andy ... economy brah!
[57] now I have something against smotz
I guess this is what they call "laboring".
[59] eh?
That DP from Teixeira was unfortunate.
[61] I was not clear. now that he's with the red sox, I want him to suck.
Just wonderful. Crap.
Goddam it. Very expensive walks.
ggrrrrrrrrr.
bad andy is only supposed to come out at HOME, dammt!
Andy nibbling with two outs is unacceptable...
why pitch around those guys, why andy
i thought he was being squeezed a little
Walks will haunt.
That coulda been a lot worse.
Coulda been a lot better, too.
[62] it was, but the failed call on the double by ransom killed the inning.
I think the pitch Escobar creamed explains why Pettitte was nibbling.
[72] Well that certainly doesn't bode well for this start, does it?
Nice to see Captain Derek with his hittin' Nikes on tonight...
: )
[73] Well, sometimes he's good at nibbling.
C'mon Tex!
Three outs in two AB's from Tex is... you know...
the camera must be at a weird angle because that foul ball looked like it would be well fair
Geez, Mark
Hey, I think I remember this guy. Good hitter.
Things are looking up for that A-Rod dude. : D
[23]!!!
just in case anyone forgot!
=)
Cultstradamus?
: )
[78] It was sliced a whole lot. It was very fair to start and hook a long way right.
[82] and both hits were smoked up the middle, which is a very, very good sign from alex
a-rod alive!
Derek and Alex 2-2 so far is acceptable!
: )
Man, we have come very close to have a whole shitload of runs. The Teix foul, the Ransom "foul", and that Posada jolt that just missed.
anyone here get mlb extra innings on fios? I was wondering how much it cost.
49 pitches through 2 innings for lowe. ouch!
Seems like the Yanks could have more runs right now.
[91] [88] Jinx.
[88] Ransom got jobbed. Teix'll get him next time. 7-1 looks much better than 3-1, though.
Hm, is Kenny right about that? With nobody out, is it more important to try to get that lead runner on a tough play, and with one out already you can just go to first (as Andy did)? I'm not so sure about that.
Oh, nice.
I'm imagining WilliamATL23 typing furiously over at Peach Banter:
McClouth swings at ball four against a very weak pitcher. That's inexcusable. Somebody has to be held accountable for this pitiful hacking.
Yay Andy with tha zero after scoring!
: )
[95] Bobby Cox's days are numbered...
: )
[94] well, it sort of makes sense. with two outs you can really focus on just getting the batter. to let a batter get to 2nd without having an intact doubeplay setup with only one out is a tough situation. Plus running on second or third with 2 out cannot advance on sac fly
[95] no doubt
[95] fire cox!
=)
where is william? so quiet.
SLAPPY!
[101] The Yanks are winning... shhh...
: )
Gardner should get his job back.
Has Brett actually been practicing that chop? That would be too cool for words.
safety squeeze, joey joe joe!
[103] sorry.
Ransom's hitting streak continues.
ANDY! C'MON!!!
wow ... that's more hard hit balls for ransom tonite than he had all of april
oh no
[97] [100] Exactly.
Hey, why didn't Brett come home?
oooooh LOWE is "walking gingerly"...nevermind
Okay, I can see why he didn't try. He couldn't tell whether Lowe knew he was coming down the line.
The bunt was down the third base line. Gardner went back to 3B.
[115] I know, but he could have scored. He would have blown right by Lowe's back.
that first pitch was called a strike?
Woohoo!
Oh, finally the foul line is our friend!
God, that's just beautiful. I love that.
There's really nothing like a bases-loaded double.
holy sweetness! Johnny D!!
Ridiculous not to squeeze there. Christ almighty just try it Girardi. You might like it!
[119] Unless it's a bases-loaded triple. :-)
[122] Ah, well. Yes. But was that actually a triple?
Yes, I see it was scored a triple. Okay, that's equally gratifying.
Also, Smoltz continues to struggle. As do the Boston batters.
how could boston be losing 5-0 to that team? THey are a complete failure of a team.
the yanks go as far as a-rod takes them. this is a fact, whether we like it or not.
[125] The race for the Division is now between the Blue Jays and the Rays.
Hey, Andy! Still got a little left.
well, andy got out of that. he will be lucky to go 6 at this rate.
way to mess up his throw A-rod!
*sigh* that just sucks the breath out of you, doesn't it? Thanks, Kay.
[128] Yep... too many walks tonight for him to go beyond that, I'm afraid...
Cashman must have brought the "Hats for Bats" with him!
: )
[130] Damn, I had the sound turned down. What did he say?
The problem with this five run lead is that any extra runs scored just don't count--it's simply running up the score. Good teams are able to save the extra runs from today and use them later against a tough pitcher. Blowouts are unacceptable.
[133] "I had the sound turned down."
LOL
It's so obvious that A-Rod's home run was inspired by Pena managing teh second half of yesterday's game. Girardi has to be fired.
[134] "Blowouts are unacceptable."
Unless they get nine earned off Santana in three innings...
: )
[131] all true. our pen has been solid. no wasted space per se.
[134] yeah in retrospect the 3rd base umpire was doing them a favor in the 1st
Swisher is unacceptable. Gardy is, however, almost acceptable.
[134] Hm, yes, you've captured something essential in the tone there. I think the "simply" was key.
More seriously, Gardner has been such a pleasant surprise. Obviously he's not as good as he is when he's hot. BUt if he can hit around .750 OPS with a million SB, that's not a bad starting CF. Not great, but not bad at all.
Can he keep it up if he starts full time?
Can't beat out a foul pop.
[141] It's all rhetoric!
; )
[142] No, not .750, I don't think so. He won't get walks.
Huh.
Right, this is a team that does this. Hits with two outs and RISP. It's not that other team.
Still not used to it.
Holy cow. Ransom is en fuego.
ransom is the key!
Cody Don't Call Me Angel Ransom.
[142] he is an asset to this team. We'll see how he does over time of course...
the yanks go as far as c-ran takes them. this is a fact, whether we like it or not.
[152] yep. we are lost without C-Ran!
[134] Or eight earned in four against Lowe in his building...
: )
it was definitely the 3rd inning, not the 7th inning, of game 6. kay has said 7th inning twice.
[150] Cody "I'm no Angel" Ransom.
[154] Well put, OK. We all grew a lot older when we lost #7... #5 too...
[154] You just compared Michael Jackson to Mickey Mantle...
[157] I was serious, actually. He can have a decent BA, but he'll never have any power, and without power he won't draw walks.
Oh for god's sake. What the hell is with that foul line? I like the first base line a whole lot better tonight.
Erm, welcome back Cody?
Who knew hitting was an additional benefit from rehab?
: )
Hmmmm.
Could be one inning too many for the Golden God, huh?
Wake up, guys. Game's not over yet.
(arm-chair/dime-store psychology)
back to baseball: we better not lose this game!
[161] Interesting way of looking at it--walks come from power. That's probably true in large part. However, if one can hit enough (hit for average) and has good zone judgment, the walks will come. He's on pace for about 50 walks over a full season. Not great, not too awful. Hmmm..
what the fuck did that even hit him?
[165] I just thought it was a funny pairing. Or unacceptable. One of the two.
It's time to get Pettitte out of there right now. He has been awful all game and is on the verge of throwing a win back. I wonder what Pettitte will blame after today's game.
It hit him in the knee. Ouch.
[170] if it hurt it serves him right for sticking his knee into the pitch
[166] Hm, 50 walks/year might give him a .750 OPS, that's true.
Oh, Brett.
[169] the defense?
Even on the radio that sounded definitely unacceptable.
alright this is getting annoying now
That's brutal...no way you can leave Pettitte in now to face Chipper. That's an 8-7 game waiting to happen.
Oh man. Our defense about to throw this one back.
Man, they're really having trouble seeing the ball right now.
[171] I don't think it was intentional. He was just shifting his weight. I don't think anyone would stick their knee into a pitch intentionally.
[180] either way he shouldn't get 1st base
[177] go back to wherever you were
Gardy playing a little too deep? Afraid of another wall-headbutt on a deep fly?
I can't believe Pettitte is being left in this game. What does Girardi need to see?
Calling Phil Hughes. Phil Hughes. Your seat is available.
I'm more scared of McCann
[181] Tough night?
[182] No, I think he's just not seeing the ball, because of the lighting. Earlier, Jeter and Damon let one drop in because they couldn't see it.
Andy could use an ice pack on the back of his neck for thirty seconds. I mean, I want one, just looking at him.
[183] Guess Girardi doesn't have a 4th inning guy? Maybe the score isn't close enough for Tomko?
Bad job, Gardner. Are you trying to give Pettitte a heart attack?
Aceves or Hughes should be in right now.
Wow. I feel better now.
Good job.
He can still get out lefties, even struggling like this.
[189] He has Aceves warming. It makes no sense to roll the dice with Pettitte.
fuck my life
[194] Snake eyes.
Why did Girardi leave him in after getting the lefty out?
Wow, what a bullet.
Ya know, I think maybe Teix could have snared that if he wasn't screened.
Well...my wife just turned the game off. I guess I'll follow online.
fuckityfuckfuck. Un believeable.
another example of why Joe must go!
[194] I know, I was being flip... AA's coming in now
When someone asks does a manager really impact games, this is Exhibit A.
How can he be asleep @ the wheel if he had Aceves warming?
Girardi is an idiot. we can all saw andy gassed and yet he leaves him in. wow, really no excuse there
Sorry, but leaving Pettitte in that long was terrible managing.
Even more inexcusable, Pettitte was nearing 40 pitches in this inning! What the hell was Girardi watching. One wonders if Girardi was simply defering to his former teammate, which is yet another reason why Girardi is not the man to manage this team.
[205] Because the move was to bring him into the game, not throwing in the bullpen wow Pettitte coughed up the lead.
Christ... here we go again...
Great managing Joe...win or lose, yet another awful game for the Girardi file.
thank you ace
[205] Exactly. He wasn't "asleep at the wheel." In fact, Sterling and Waldman mentioned that he step out of the dugout briefly, then returned. He obviously though that, with two outs, Pettitte good sneak out of the inning. He was wrong, and his poor judgment should be criticized. But he should, then, take the blame for an active error, not passive negligence.
Whether Girardi was asleep or merely drowsy, he messed up.
One wonders if Girardi was simply defering to his former teammate
I don't see it; Pettitte doesn't get a win if he completes the inning
[213] Active error? Passive negligence? That's semantics.
[213] Apologist. Enabler.
Excuser.
[211] Great managing Joe…win or lose, yet another awful game for the Girardi file.
Man, the Atlanta defense has been brutal tonight. Gardy's been embarrassing, but this is ridiculous.
[223] "Maybe I’m sensitive because I read hundreds of poorly written student papers."
It's the teacher's fault!
: )
[223] Yeah, put it in a lower gear when you're not doing working, and you'll save yourself some trouble. Context.
[225] No I'm not Russian
Uh-oh, Kenny talking about momentum. : /
[222] BOO-Yah! :)
[226] No, but you are doing typing, English.
I hate first pitch swinging. Hate it.
[225] It's hard to gear down when the rhetoric is so relentlessly negative about everything, to the point where it is hard to differentiate serious analysis and observation from sarcasm or raving. It's hard to know the context when complaints of various degrees of accuracy are thrown around will nilly. At least no one has called anyone a racist yet.
ok, JUST got here, and have two questions
1) Why does Andy get to fact not one but TWO batters after loading the bases?
2) is william ok?
9-1 Nats, bottom of seven.
Are there any good teams left, anywhere in MLB???
[224] Actually, it's my fault, as evidenced by [205] :D
[229] I am doing wodka drinking...
: )
[231] Racist!
[217] Unacceptable-er?
[236] Thank you.
; )
[232] Pettitte got to face a lefty, because of matchups, and he faced a righty because Girardi was asleep at the wheel
[236] ANTI-DENTITE!!
Cox must be asleep at the wheel too; he's sending Javy V to PH
[239] Drowsy dammit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guys this really is Yankee Stadium south. I'd say its 55% Yankees fans.
Thelarmis and I met. Heck of a nice guy!
Yanks will shrug off the bad D and win.
omg
Cox showing his managerial brilliance by inserting Vaz to work a walk
Why is Aceves still pitching??? When he got to 3-1, he should have been pulled. Girardi is napping again.
[239][240][241] That's funny stuff.
There have been 8 mlb players born in Russia. That last one being Victor Cole in 1992 for the Pirates.
Must be the heat.
Serious.
Hm, I used to like that line, now, not so much.
Lots of hits on the chalk today.
[240] George W. Bush, Bridgette Bardot and Groucho Marx walk into a bar..
[231] I recommend addressing that negativity directly instead of use of idiom, since the negativity seems to be what's really bothering you.
JD: no, no, that's okay Brett, I'll take this one!
It sure wouldn't surprise me these days.
Does it seem like that to anyone else here?
[255] Yuck. Somewhat plausible. I hope it's not true.
[254] oh and one other batter reached because he stuck his knee (intentionally or not) into an 0-2 curveball
Re: the Red Sox losing to the Nats:
The Sox already won two of three and @ the Nationals. I'm sure if the Yanks did the same no-one would complain. Even losing one of three at home wouldn't have been disastrous.
Oh and also: The Red Sox are in first place.
"Boone Logan"??
[252] I have in fact addressed the negativity, multiple times. Occasionally I am caught offguard--apparently asleep at the wheel--by commenting on a flawed argument or an obscure point, usually because imprecise use of language. I'll have to work on that.
[255] I think Girardi has been a bad manager, but I haven't impugned his integrity. Do you really think that?
[255] I seriously doubt it. Even if it were true I don't think tonight's game would have been one to try and push the envelope.
[260] Sarcasm?
10 pushups, Gardy
[252] I didn't say you hadn't addressed it, but that you may as well address it again instead of projecting onto technical matters. "Instead" was the operative word there.
[265] is meant for [260]
I really hate watching anything to do with FOX on YES.
[261] I hope that isn't the case to be sure, but Girardi and Pettitte go way back, hence it would not surprise me, considering the lack of integrity with the players in general...
[258]
The Sox already won two of three and @ the Nationals. I’m sure if the Yanks did the same no-one would complain.
Ah ha ha ha ha ah ha!
Oh, wait, you're serious?
[255] I agree that Andy will continue to get the benefit of the doubt. I assume in this case, that Girardi figured: he didn't get hit all that hard and he was let down by his defense. When he got to two outs, maybe he can get the third out and escape the inning. Then we can milk five innings out of starter instead of having to go to the BP--especially the good relievers--in game where we had a six run lead.
I'm sure other irrational motives entered into it: I know Andy, he's a gamer, a veteran, etc.
Or, he was asleep at the wheel.
[255] Or it could be a case of Pettitte being in Girardi's circle of trust... Combine that with the horrid bullpen that Cashman foisted on him, it's not a surprise that Pettitte stayed in too late
[269] Are you?
who the hell would vote for glavine over smoltz and maddux? i personally always thought smoltz was the best pitcher in that he was the only one of the 3 i never wanted to face. but obviously maddux is a deserving choice as well. but glavine is not.
[265] You're right. I guess I was just crying wolf. Or asleep at the wheel.
[268] What folks do for millions of dollars these days cannot be underestimated in my opinion.
That's all I'm sayin'...
[272] About what?
It's utterly absurd to say that "nobody would have complained" if the Yankees had lost one out of three instead of two out of three to the Nationals. Completely, utterly absurd.
I'm sure Girardi isn't giving Pettitte innings for money. I think PJ could be right that he's doing it because Pettitte is his old team mate.
[273] Well, Glavine has a lot of time on his hands, I don't see any reason why he wouldn't vote for himself
[275] Especially considering what they've done for a Klondike bar...
[276] The Yankees needed to sweep v. the Nats at home. The Sox were on the road, so 2 out of 3 ain't bad. /Meatloaf
[275] Yep. They're totally asleep at the wheel.
[276] semantics!
[279] Thank you, that proves my point beyond any further doubt.
Good throw by the Captain.
It wouldn't suck if the Yankees tacked on a run or two.
[279] Holy Cow, I think he's going to make it!!
[282] That's why I'm here............................
[276] Agreed... I would have been "less than livid" if the Yankees lost one to Washington... as I was "livid" that they lost the series... "explosive" had they been swept... nay, "canceling my MLBEI" is more like it...
[285] What's it gonna be boy, yes or .......
Everyone needs to stop counting their chickens before they hatch, hold their horses, and simply let sleeping dogs lie. ; D
[287] What I like especially about that comment is that I can hear your voice rising in pitch and getting louder after each ellipsis.
[288] Can I sleep on it?
[282] or you could just look at the game thread from the middle game
[288] ... FOX?
[276] Stop sleeping at the wheel. OK, I have to take a walk. See y'all after the game, which win or lose proves that Girardi is an even worse manager than Joe Torre.
[290] I impressed myself with proper use of the word, "nay."
: )
H or E?
Wow, rough day for Escobar.
Check it out, Tyler Clippard is now pitching for the Nats. To finish the game.
[292] 326. The Hawk
June 17th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
Ha, another L hung on Wang. This time because the Yanks couldn’t even score 3 runs against the Nationals.
It’s despicable, really. The Nats win one out of every four games. That’s ****ing horrible.
Escobar Knoblauched that one. If the ball is laying there, go pick it up. Geez.
[298] Research. Totally unfair.
Nerd.
[298] well that was at yankee stadium, to be fair. though i very much doubt it would have made a difference.
[297] Clearly, he's no Nick Swisher on the bump. Nice changeup to Babe Green, though!
Rocco went yard on Tyler. But Tyler struck out two and finished off the Sox.
Good old Tyler.
If we don't see Tomko tonight, Girardi gets a + from me.
anyone else having problems with yes? mine is in and out.
[304] Or Veras...
[304] Ah, you are assuming we don't score 13 runs this inning...
repeat from yesterday, my pop sent me the link for some reason..
http://tinyurl.com/nvafvo
amazing to think those guys could pitch so many innings!
[306] If only Tomko joined Veras as a unYankee.
[306] Hey, now that would be something!
Flip over to the Indians game, ya never know.
A double steal! Girardi's awake!
[307] *slaps head*
[311] They did that on their own.
: )
[313] Hysterical.
Several commenters have really found the groove tonight. Just the right tone, good "timing", etc.
[311] don't you know that any time he calls a play that might have helped earlier this season he's making a mistake by showing that he knows that that play can be called at all??
Running at will. Like Will is at the next base. That made me laugh.
Well, nice first pitch anyway...
[314] Speaking of, I sure hope Thelarmis brought his glove to that game since it's apparently needed and all!
: )
Now that I think about it, it's a stupid play; it opens 1b, so now Teix gets walked so that the Braves can face ARod who is going to GIDP
[315] (though i still think he did the right thing in that game by not starting the runners)
Jete's got see where that ball bounces. Ah, well.
Well how often do you see that? I can't believe it. What a tiny area back there!
if he gets going....
[319] False.
Deja vu!
Idiots.
WTG, Al!
Good things happen when A Rod isn't overly concerned with hitting it out of the park.
Mr Clutch!
I can't remember why I don't like Jeff Francoeur. He has a lot of qualities that I usually like.
Yay Alex and Cultstradamus!
Brilliant move by Girardi sending the runners, therefore causing Cox to load the bases. Since this isn't a clutch situation, he knew ARod was going to get the big hit
Damn, what a selfish two-run single by Alex, huh?
Kotchman is the anti-Giambi.
Tex got a terrible jump on that. Cost us a run.
[330] Just more "meaningless offense" to pad his numbers...
: )
[331] Armwise, you mean.
Obviously.
[231] how about implying that someone needs to read slow because of an alleged lack of comprehension; is that negative?
hi team (i am going to borrow the phrase from weeping) just got in.
seems like a lot of action in the game and an interesting game thread for what i have skimmed through.
alex seems to be having a nice game.
any word if thelarmis's strawberry glove snagged a foul?
[334] *nods*
[335] why aren't you still at the game?
Well, who should pitch the seventh? It'll just be the seventh, so we can have a pinch hitter in the eighth. I guess Robertson.
Ah. No, it's EDPCy, of course.
[336] Not yet, but I think he texted he was going to try and get one during BP.
I would argue if he got a haircut today and brought his glove, the Yankees would have put him in the OF!
: )
[298] What is your point?
[340] (in the voice of snaggletooth:) Unacceptable even!
[340] It's not "technically untrue", it's absurd.
[341] edpcy is looking a bit hefty in the gut these days
all this work should make him look thinner no?
good catch tex
[342] haha thanks pj!
What did Keith Hernandez say about Teixeira's range?
[346] I thought he always looked like that.
But, uh, how do I put this. You don't think it could be drinking, do you? I mean... you know... like his predecessor.
[343] what's yours?
[338] oh I'm still here. Long drive tonight. Posting with the blackberry. Just catching up on some bantering inside Yankee Stadium south.
[348] That was not about range. That play was great reaction time. The range is more about grounders between 1st and 2nd.
Yay "Wrong-handed Phil!"
was kotchman trying to sell a foul tip on a 55 footer?
Girardi to self: "Hmmm, Cokey is the seventh inning guy. Must remember this."
[346] It's not a lot of work, when you think about it. A fraction of an inning here and there, he has plenty of time to hit the buffet
Sox and Jays lose. TB will win. A decent night for us.
[347]
: )
[352] I just wanted an excuse to diss Hernandez.
[344] Sans the snaggletooth voice, that would be beating a dead horse. Instead you temporarily resuscitated it.
What can you do with "asleep at the wheel"? ... that poor mare hasn't breathed in hours and is still taking punishment.
[352] yeah agreed oyf.
tex's nice plays seem to often be a function of great reflexes.
[349] maybe it's just the way is uniform is tonight. certainly hope it is not the other.
[356] haha true raf. maybe all the work just gets him headed to the clubhouse before almost everyone else.
Wait, Coke is going to bat?
Well, maybe not such a bad idea. Give him a second inning, save Bruney and Robertson for tomorrow maybe?
Mo is on-deck to PH for Coke.
Toro! Toro! Ole!
[345] I think what you're saying is absurder still, so absurd actually that I would say it's about the absurdest thing I've read here tonight.
Brutal d today.
Not hit that hard. GET IN FRONT OF THAT BALL LARRY!
[366] Be specific Which thing that I said is absurd?
i know it is not going anywhere but i am done with interleague - i have no desire to see phil coke at bat ever again
[367] Living up to the thread title, maybe?
*shrug*
[369] Was it something about oompa-loompas?
[372] Doubt it. I'm not that expert at absurdity!
I see the D has been absurd...
[369] That what I said was absurd. Just thinking about it and typing about it again here, my mind boggles with the absurdity of it.
DeREK JETer
[373] Lucky you. Me otoh, I breathe absurdity like nitrous oxide...
[374] Absurd D is unacceptable...
[375] Boggle was kind of an absurd board game, actually...
The slumping Mark Teixeira?
hmm i would be bored of this game too if i were the ump, but is he serious?
[375] Uh...
Okay.
I think I might have read some of this thread in a Camus novel.
So unclutch.
[381] I would say it deserves serious consideration, but many would find that unacceptable...
[384] You left out the exclamation mark!
[385] asleep at the wheel
[385] But that's absurd!
51cq24 you never did explain what your well-researched reference in [298] was supposed to prove or reveal.
[378] Better than Tenacious D, I suppose
Maybe Cashman should be the coach. : )
Asleep at the wheel. Absurd. Unacceptable.
Laugh! I have re-contextualized you all! Laugh, fools! Laugh!
[387] Inconceivable!
[390] The way Kay is talking, I think it's more like the Headmaaster.
[391] I can't laugh. I'm narcoleptic at the steering apparatus...
[391] That's absurd. You can't recontextualize orange juice, can you?
[388] why do you repeat a question you know the answer to? i acknowledged in [301] that the game was at home, not in washington, but i still think it's good evidence that at least some people would have been upset with just one loss.
[392] Is that Kevin Maas or NoMaas?
[393] "The Narcoleptic Helmsmen" would have made a pretty good 70's psychedelic band.
[392] I don't think Kay's words reflect very well on Girardi. Was it that mental with the recent shitty play? Or simply b/c Lowe was garbage.
G.Soto of the Cubs tested positive for pot at the WBC...of course he said it was an "isolated incident"..that line didn't work for me at 16, why do athletes even bother??
[396] Why, neither, it was Wally Shawn, actually.
This thread is punch drunk.
Face it. We can't have a quality argumentative hatefest without Willaim.
Dave Robertson should have "It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" for his entrance music.
[397] Any more of this snoozefest and we'll all be narcoleptic helmsmen, except for Ms October, of course.
: )
[402] "Kill my landlord! Kill my landlord! C-I-L-L my landlord!"
Great work RYI!
LOL
[404 "Images" by Tyrone Greene... Nice.
Dark and lonely on a Saturday night...
Watchdog barking - Do he bite?
[398] Lowe was garbage, but so is Girardi ; )
"deluded OR disingenuous."
Can we take a vote on which?
Mo in to PH.
I hate having to see Mo in this game. Damn.
Good lord.
Girardi actually thinks he should call in Mariano because it's a Save situation.
[410] Well more than one person did it so it's possible it was both.
I guess Melky doesn't have the flu after all. Benched two days straight? Something's fishy!
Wow, cheap S.
4 hours in Hotlanta. The boys must be tired.
And the series is ours.
I'm glad that's over! Thelarmis got his money's worth of offense tonight!
Way to go!
Mets are next!
Have a great evening everyone!
: )
hey everyone! whew, what a game! here goes...
met Evil Empire and his buddy. he's a super nice guy! that's the 4th person i've met from the Banter and it's always been great!
once again, insanely ridiculously HOT girls everywhere. just unreal.
[401] I wasn't aware that first guessing the manager qualified as hate, but if so, I am always happy to oblige.
ooh, i was just reading thru Pete Abe's blog.
Frenchy let a ball roll around early and a runner took an extra base. i think it was damon's triple, not positive. and escobar had a miscue that went for a hit. one of cody's hits, could've been an error on Chipper. sloppy game all around, but fun...and we WON!!! yay! : )
not good:
Xavier Nady took himself out of the Scranton game tonight when he felt pain making a throw.
“We don’t know what he did yet but it could be the worst-case scenario,” Brian Cashman said.
Damon may have been nowhere near the ball...but he should have been. At least that's how it looked on TV.
Jeter seemed to be having trouble seeing the ball. He was looking around for help. Gardner saw that, and ran in. Damon didn't, though he was closer.
Gardner later dropped what looked like a fairly easy catch. I really think they were having trouble seeing the ball in the twilight.
Keep us updated on Aydin.
