Dinger Derby

homerunderby

Will you watch? Listening to Chris Berman for a couple of hours is too much for me to stomach. But I can always watch with the sound off. Cool that Mr. Pujols is participating this year.

Is that child about to smash that seemingly very expensive piece of electronic equipment?

[1] Is than an old-school NES controller built into that thing?!

The mute button, I'm convinced, was made for ESPN broadcasts involving Berman, Morgan, Sutcliffe, Phillips et al. My wife is not much of a baseball fan, but we have a ritual, going back to when we were dating, of watching the home run derby together every year. So yeah, I'll be watching.

Kid's dropping his shoulder too much. He needs to hit the film room and work on the flaws in his swing. He is already behind Pujols' development at this age.

On the other hand, great hair!

(no, I am not bald)

The bigger problem is his shoulders are ahead of his hips . . . and he's wearing a Braves jersey.

i think it would have been cool if they had just gotten first basemen for the derby since all the nl reps are 1b.

but yeah berman is insufferable - can mostly flip to the hr derby and ctach most of the good stuff.

that kid is very cute - anyone know whose it is?

6 Start Spreading the News   ~  Jul 13, 2009 5:09 pm

I think we can safely assume it is not John Rocker's kid...

7 Just Fair   ~  Jul 13, 2009 5:10 pm

[5] I don't know who it is, but I guarantee he's probably on some sort of PEZ. Probably Sponge Bob.

He's getting all "Office Space" on that copier machine.

PC Load Letter? What the F does that mean?

And no, I ain't watching the HR Derby. It's like the Dunk Contest, only it didn't even have a heyday of a few years before it got sucky.

Actually I stand corrected. His girlfriend is black.

[0] "Will you watch?"

LOL!

We stopped watching ESRSN when ABC took over. Chris Berman's "15 Minutes" ended when Norman "Boomer" Esiason called him out for being the talentless media fraud that he is.

We won't even watch the ASG.

Every time I think of Bud Selig, I see that dipshit shrug he made when the game was last ruled a tie.

We haven't watched it since...

i know i'm not the only one watching this. admit it everyone!

12 Just Fair   ~  Jul 13, 2009 8:30 pm

[11] I love the derby and the ASG. I've watched them both for as long as I can remember. It's baseball. : D

Sutcliffe the worst of that bunch..hard to believe such a great pitcher can spout such nonsense about baseball...

[2,3] kid dropped his shoulder but look at the expression on his face, he's locked in..

[11] i'm watching!

jeter was interviewed by erin andrews. that was cool.

joe buck was just on with the espn group. that was torturous.

poor brandon inge. didn't hit one dinger. saw that coming a mile away...

methinks boBBy abreu should do the derby again. i bet it'd knock his power swing back into play!

i saw the cute kid for a second. i think it might be prince fielder's little boy. always good to start boys with long hair early on! : )

[13] bought the last Art Blakey solo Blue Note cd i needed today! it was cheap. i believe i have 'em all now! : )

15 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jul 13, 2009 9:39 pm

[14] Art Blakey! A master..

Joe Buck with the ESPN crew..sounds great! Maybe Joe and Steve Phillips can get into why Carlos Beltran is not a winner..

Back-back-back-back [MUTE]!

[11] I have it on in the background, while I get some work done... but jeez, the first round should not take two hours. I think the Home Run Derby can be fun - Josh Hamilton last year was awesome - but it is not three or four hours' worth of fun.

Also, I just want to give poor Brandon Inge and his zero home runs a hug.

17 Diane Firstman   ~  Jul 13, 2009 9:58 pm

I think we need Erin Andrews wearing a black leather miniskirt to stroll by Berman in order to get him to shut up.

18 thelarmis   ~  Jul 13, 2009 11:00 pm

Prince is the Home Run King.

19 Mattpat11   ~  Jul 13, 2009 11:04 pm

I completely gave up on this snoozer after the bat off

20 OldYanksFan   ~  Jul 13, 2009 11:21 pm

Is there a Yankees game soon?

21 thelarmis   ~  Jul 13, 2009 11:35 pm

[19] i changed the channel too. good to see ya, man!!!

[20] ooh, i wish. time to go to the studio and practice my Cobham licks! : )

22 Mattpat11   ~  Jul 14, 2009 12:08 am

[21] You won't say that after a week or so. My computer issues are fixed and I should be back regularly again now. You'll all be sick of me

23 Evil Empire   ~  Jul 14, 2009 12:22 am

I missed the contest and Berman's tired and contrived Schtick. But then again, I wouldn't say I actually "missed" it.

Instead, I could the Southern League AA All Star Game in B'ham. It was pretty fun despite the 7-0 outcome.

24 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jul 14, 2009 12:32 am

Missed it to, the idea of following HomeRunDerby with Gameday graphics didn't really zip my zipper..

[21] Billy Cobham! Panama's second greatest export after Mo the Great!

25 Raf   ~  Jul 14, 2009 1:08 am

[22] Well things have been quite interesting in your absence, I must admit. But I guess missing the whole Bum Rush brouhaha has its merits, I suppose.

26 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jul 14, 2009 1:14 am

[22] I miss the Ponson jokes, so welcome back!

27 Mattpat11   ~  Jul 14, 2009 1:27 am

[25] Half of me wants to know, the other half thinks its probably better to just let sleeping dogs lie.

[26] I was never joking. I live in fear that Ponson will be back at any time. :)

28 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jul 14, 2009 1:41 am

[27] KC Royals are still at it..traded for Betancourt, causing the internet to temporarily shut down due to blogger outrage..

29 rbj   ~  Jul 14, 2009 8:57 am

I made it through the first round of the HR Derby. Just wasn't as exciting this year. The back back back back is old and tired and lame. Berman needs a new call.

BTW, why this sudden push to make Pujols the front & center face of MLB. He's the best player at the moment, but it just seems forced the way MLB & ESPN are promoting him.

30 Raf   ~  Jul 14, 2009 9:32 am

BTW, why this sudden push to make Pujols the front & center face of MLB

Seems pretty obvious to me is that it's because he's "clean"

31 Diane Firstman   ~  Jul 14, 2009 10:04 am

[30]

I wish I could believe that ....

32 monkeypants   ~  Jul 14, 2009 10:48 am

[30] And he's only 24 y.o.!!

33 Raf   ~  Jul 14, 2009 7:19 pm

[31] Hence clean in quotes. With the steroids issue being what it is, and Pujols' lack of attention, for lack of a better word, it's not surprising that MLB wants him to represent the game. He doesn't present the goofiness of a Manny, the arrogance of a Bonds, or the phoniness of a Rodriguez.
