"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

Friday Night Flop

The Yanks scored three runs in the first inning but Sergio Mitre coughed up the lead by the end of the second inning. The White Sox later busted a 6-5 lead wide open against Alfredo Aceves as they beat the Yankees 10-5. The Red Sox and Rays, both winners, inched closer to New York.

dudsoap

I caught the second part of the game and man was it ever a dud. Yanks collected 12 hits but left 10 men on base. Long night. Now, the Yanks will have to win today (Fox Game of the Week) and tomorrow to earn a split in the series.

Not an ideal way to start the weekend. But it’s how they finish that counts, right?

Girardi needs to understand that the Aceves may have come back to Earth.

Rich, Girardi may not have had a whole lot of choice last night.

Have I mentioned how much I think we needed Washburn, and for how many reasons?

Yeah, not getting Washburn was a drag. But I heard that wanted A. Jax. Glad the Yanks kept him for now. Still, Cash is gunna have to work some waiver magic.

High School running mistake by A-Rod in ninth when they needed runners. Not a good week for him fielding, hitting, or running. Not too much left.

[3] Melancon was the right choice, but Girardi didn't go to him until the game was out of reach.

Melancon has much more upside than Aceves, but Girardi has let a couple of months of out of context pitching fool him.

If Hughes would be shifted to the rotation, they wouldn't need to overpay for Washburn or any other fungible starter.

[3] With what the M's were asking for Washburn combined with Washburn not being all that good, I'm happy the Yanks didn't acquire him. He posted the numbers he did despite pitching in Safeco. Could you imagine the numbers he'd put up in New Yankee Stadium?
