Encore

Joba Chamberlain doesn’t have to be Serge Mitre but the Yanks hope that he’ll have a strong outing. As frustrating as he can be at times, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching Joba start this year.

Yanks playing with house money. Sun is peaking out from the haze.

Sweep would be big here.

2 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 30, 2009 11:42 am

Someone or something named "Eric Hinske" is playing today. This warrants further investigation. I don't recall the last time I saw that name in the starting lineup.

Fortunately, that's not a house money lineup.

4 monkeypants   ~  Aug 30, 2009 12:51 pm

[2] I just figured that Hinske had been released to make room for a 14th pitcher, now that Hairston can play the entire bench.

5 The Hawk   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:06 pm

Has anyone ever asked and gotten an answer about what in the name of all that's holy and precious in this woeful world the Yanks are doing with Phil Hughes?

I mean, what is the official line on his under-use? Somehow they are killing two birds that ought not be killed with one stone by not pitching him as much as they could and leaving him ill-prepared to be a starter next season.

6 monkeypants   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:11 pm

[5] I used to ask, but first it annoyed others (apparently) and then it just depressed. My brother summed it up when we attended a game together recently. I said something like " I would love to see Hughes talent more fully exploited," and bro' responded "that's not going to happen until he's playing for another team."

7 monkeypants   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:12 pm

[6]"...depressed me."

8 Just Fair   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:15 pm

[5] It is a crying shame. Hughes' cartographer is blind so the Yanks are having an especially tough time

9 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:15 pm

Jeter's amazing!!! : )

10 rbj   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:16 pm

I went to the dictionary, to look up the definition of hot, and there was a picture of Derek Jeter.

11 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:19 pm

ooh, Johnny almost beat that out!

c'mon Tex - no strikeout - gotta tie the game right here!

12 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:19 pm

ooh, that was soooo close!!!

1-1

13 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:20 pm

[10] was Kim Jones there, too?! ; )

14 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:20 pm

why didn't Alex swing at that last pitch?!

15 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:22 pm

weird seeing that photoshopped picture of Hinske with a big chin thing and Yankee hat on...

16 Just Fair   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:22 pm

Lame, Alex.

17 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:23 pm

goddamnit A-rod, don't get picked off. fucker.

(just continuing a tradition started yesterday)

19 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:23 pm

[16] i have company! yay! : )

20 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:24 pm

[18] Mattpat's actually been doing that for awhile now. is it 13, they said 12? who knows, maybe someone's number is to tie and the other to pass. either way, i think he gets to 3,000 in his next at-bat!!! ; )

21 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:25 pm

[20] Pete said 14 needed on the game post, so I just subtracted the one that he hit....Maybe it's 12 to tie and 13 to pass.

22 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:27 pm

ooh, nice catch eric.

[18] you having horrible thunderstorms? we are...

i know this isn't going to continue, but if Joba's pitch count is super low after 5, why not send him out for another? i know it'll be a "mute" point, but still...

23 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:28 pm

It would be nice if Joba could keep pitching this way and avoid his usual bad inning...

24 rbj   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:28 pm

[13] I'm hoping she's in the Braille edition.

25 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:29 pm

[21] yeah, i think it's 12 to tie and 13 to pass...yup!

26 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:29 pm

[24 VERY nice!!! : )

27 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:30 pm

[22] No thunder here, just a steady downpour that started 30 minutes ago. Since the weather patterns normally run west to east (with an ever so slight south to north tilt), I'd say you're going to have rain the rest of the day and night over yonder.

28 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:31 pm

According to Pete Abe, Delin Betances has had Tommy John Surgery. I didn't even know he was in town.

29 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:31 pm

no Ron, Kazmir's 2-4 record against the Tigers is not "very good". it IS very good against Texas and winning against Bos/NY...

30 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:33 pm

[29] I heard Maddon said the Rays weren't cashing in their chips on the season by trading Kazmir....yeah surrrrre.

31 Just Fair   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:33 pm

If Joba is at 80 pitches or less through 5 Joey Joe Joe's head might explode trying to figure out what to do.

32 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:33 pm

good job, piss hands!

33 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:34 pm

[30] still, i hope they open the door for Tejas, by sweeping the Shit Sox coming up! i really want Boston to lose 5 in a row here at some point. i would truly LOVE for them to miss the postseason...

[31] i hope that situation comes to pass. i really do.

34 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:35 pm

robbie just doesn't hustle. kinda pisses me off...

35 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:41 pm

k, strikeout, then DP

36 Just Fair   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:41 pm

Maybe this will be the 35 pitch inning that gets everything back to usual. : (

37 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:43 pm

Was hoping to be able to take something positive from Joba today, but I guess not.

38 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:45 pm

fuck you, Caray.

wow, i can't beleive we got him out at 3rd!

39 Just Fair   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:46 pm

[34] That was a pretty damn good throw to A-Rod, though.

40 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:46 pm

[36] i was gonna guess before that it'd be the 3rd. ugh...

41 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:47 pm

[39] yes, it was impressive. i meant his lack of hustle running to first and sometimes on the basepaths. i'm pretty pleased with his defense.

ugh, another pitchout???

42 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:48 pm

Ugly throw off of a pitch out.

43 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:49 pm

[42] It seemed like he hesitated to make the throw, but maybe that was to allow the fielder to get into position.

44 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:52 pm

thank you, Joba! great pitch, i'm glad he went with the cheese there and didn't fool around.

35 pitches thru 3, is most excellent!

45 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:54 pm

[44] Two runs in three innings to the White Sox, however, is not too excellent.

46 joe   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:55 pm

Why is Posada catching today if his finger is so hurt?

47 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:55 pm

[45] you are correct, sir. i thought about that...

48 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:56 pm

oh melky, why the hell are you swinging at that crap?! : /

49 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:56 pm

jeter = WOW !!! : o

Sweet. Shot o' JD.

52 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:58 pm

JOHNNY!!!

2nd decker!!! Yankees lead 3-2 !!!

200 team homers this season

53 Raf   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:58 pm

[30] They aren't. Kazmir's numbers have been declining (velocity and k/9), it's a good time to move him. The rays have options in the minors.

[45] True, but a couple of those hits were pretty cheap.

54 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:58 pm

Yeah! Johnny!!!

55 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:58 pm

let's go back-to-back Tex

56 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 1:59 pm

tex keeps getting close.

alright joba, keep it right here. another quick inning, please!

57 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:00 pm

[53] That out to Hinske was hit pretty hard and getting Nix on third was kind of fortunate.

58 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:00 pm

damn, shit sox already got to Doc...1-0 after an inning.

rays up 2-1 over detroit...

59 Raf   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:01 pm

Made it to the game yesterday, the ballpark was nicer than anticipated. I've heard complaints about the sound, but the only time the music was really at obnoxious levels was during the "applause-o-meter" portion of the game, where they were trying to get the crowd hyped

60 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:02 pm

Wha?!?!?!

only THREE freaking innings?!?!?!

c'mon Joey Joe Joe. send Joba out for one more. only 35 pitches, for christ sake.

61 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:03 pm

[57] i thought Pods' leadoff hit was kinda lucky

62 Raf   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:03 pm

There was a grounder up the middle off the change, and a good pitch down (slider?) that the batter lined to RF

63 Just Fair   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:03 pm

(scratching my head)

64 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:03 pm

What's wrong with Halladay? He has "struggled" since the deadline. The AL Cy Young race is really widening. Greinke should be the clear leader, but his record will cost him votes. King Felix might be the leader right now, but CC could really make a run if he keeps lowering his ERA and winning games.

65 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:05 pm

[60] Doubt it's Girardi's decision. The Yankees have kind of really screwed up the Joba plan this season, but this final road map makes the most sense, considering where we stand today.

66 Raf   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:07 pm

[60] I would've given him another... Weird the way they've done the development thing with Joba and Hughes, but I guess that's approaching dead horse territory?

67 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:07 pm

The Jays really have the feel of a team that is packing it in for the season.

68 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:07 pm

well, shit - Ace just kicked some serious ass!

[64] i agree with that. i wonder if Doc is hurt at all. i can't imagine the trade talks are still bothering him. Greinke pitches against the M's today. i hope CC has a strong Sept and takes the Cy.

69 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:08 pm

yeah, i mean i fully understand the innings cap, but don't they look at pitch count and "stressful" pitch counts? i think Joba shoulda pitched one more. but maybe they're looking at Joba for 3, Ace for 3, then see where we are for the back end of the game...

fuck it, let's just...WIN !!!

70 Raf   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:09 pm

[67] I don't know about that, they weren't really that good to begin with...

71 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:10 pm

good AB Alex. now don't screw it up and get picked off...

72 Just Fair   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:10 pm

That's a great ab by Alex. C'mon Matsui!

73 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:11 pm

[69] It's kind of subjective to differentiate between stressful and non-stressful pitch counts. They can barely figure things out now, so I can't see adding that extra layer of complication. Besides, I think the early exit of Joba increases the chances of winning, assuming Joe manages the pen properly, which I am not too confident about.

74 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:12 pm

jesus, rocco just hit a solo shot off Doc and of course Paul Byrd is gonna throw a gem...

75 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:12 pm

[70] They still have a postive differential and that was even greater before their recent swoon. They aren't a bad team by any stretch, but when you watch their games now, it seems like the hitters are just up there to swing if it's close.

76 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:14 pm

c'mon Jorge, make'em pay!

77 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:14 pm

you'd think Caray would know how to pronounce "fasciitis"

78 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:15 pm

ah, boo...

79 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:16 pm

hit it out, robbie

80 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:17 pm

First two pitches to Cano were both outside. Look at the Pitch F/x (on Gameday). Rob is right to argue.

81 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:18 pm

For all the talk about YSIII being a band box, the Yankees have only scored 1/10 of a run more at home, while having an ERA about 4/10 less.

82 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:20 pm

jeter is sooo good at that

83 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:21 pm

Cap'n, my Cap'n!

84 Simone   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:21 pm

What is going on with Jeter? It is like he is possess by the spirit of the near perfect hitting shortstop.

85 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:24 pm

17 pitches thru 2 for Ace !!!

86 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:25 pm

I know this has already been said and is obvious, but it's quite annoying that Joba pitched only three innings. Four for him, three for Ace (or even four if he's as efficient as he's been so far), and you're down to an inning or two, which could be Robertson if the game isn't close or Hughes and Mo if it is.
Seems so obvious. There must be some secret we aren't privy to.

87 Raf   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:29 pm

[75] There hasn't been much of a variance between their runs scored and runs allowed for the past few years, they've been consistently mediocre.

88 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:29 pm

[86] agreed on all counts

89 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:30 pm

the Scum Sox are scoring a run per inning off Halladay. it's now 3-0 in the 3rd. : /

90 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:31 pm

[84]

.356 .395 .514 in the 2nd half.

It's just been a pleasure to watch him this year.

Special.

91 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:33 pm

Doc H. is no longer a scary pitcher. Neither is Beurhle. Who are the scary pitchers now? Greinke? It's hard to be scared when playing KC, though.

92 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:34 pm

[86] I actually like Joba going three, both in terms of maintaining his innings limit and giving the Yanks the best chance to win. I have more confidence allocating the extra inning to Aceves to Hughes than to Joba.

93 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:35 pm

[91] I wouldn't go that far. Halladay is still one of the best. I just have a feeling his heart just isn't into it right now.

94 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:37 pm

damn, that was close.

please be okay, Ace

95 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:38 pm

Posednick will definitely be running on Posada here.

96 Just Fair   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:39 pm

Hopefully Podsednik will fall down as he tries to steal 2nd.

97 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:39 pm

[93] since he missed 2 weeks with the injury in June, he's 3-6 w/ a 3.67 era and 91 hits in 81 innings.

not sure if it's his heart, or maybe he's just not 100%

98 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:40 pm

Our infield is very good at DPs.

99 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:40 pm

Word. That works. Good play by Alex. And nearly Auto-Cano.

102 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:42 pm

I just meant Halliday isn't scary now. He'll probably be scary against next year.

103 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:42 pm

he didn't get him, but i sure love seeing Jete's "Jump Throw" (TM) !!! : )

104 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:42 pm

[97] That's also around the time the trade talk started, but who knows. I don't think he'd pitch with an injury, especially after undergoing a period when the team was trying to trade him.

105 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:43 pm

[102] yes, Next Year, is a VERY tough opponent, but Doc will shut them down! ; )

106 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:43 pm

[102] I kind of agree with that qualification. Having said that, I've already made note of the fact he is pitching against the Yankees this Friday and don't feel too confident about that game, especially with Joba facing him.

107 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:44 pm

Jete was not very pleased with his throw. he felt he shoulda gotten the out...

108 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:45 pm

3 innings, 32 pitches for Ace !!!

come out for a 4th? i say...no. let him rest. he got hit on his non-throwing elbow...

109 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:46 pm

[105] I thought you might be a little out of it when I read that; now I see it was I who was a little out of it!

Still, given how many fans seem so eager to go up against that opponent ("Wait till..."), it's sort of sobering to think that in the end every athlete succumbs one way or another to Next Year.

110 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:46 pm

[106] it should be Friday, but Cliff has Doc listed as going on Thursday, when Mitre might (?) start...

Paul Byrd got out of a bases loaded jam. of course, he did. : /

111 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:47 pm

[108] Oh, I definitely say Yes. Why play Bullpen Roulette with a one run lead??

Before anyone says it: yes, it would be different if there were Any Chance at All of Hughes pitching two innings.

112 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:47 pm

[108] The obvious answer is no, you let Hughes go 2 and have Mo close it out. Instead, what will happen is Ace will start the inning and Marte/Coke will back him up, which will put the game in needless jeopardy.

113 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:48 pm

[109] HA!!! i am exhausted, but not too very out of it. haven't had a beer in over 3 weeks!

yeah, i just hope Next Year doesn't come for Jeter or Mo...ever.

i also hope Alex hits a bomb right here...

117 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:50 pm

I can't believe Garcia is pitching this well...and I do think he is pitching a good game. The Yankees have been patient and not given away ABs.

118 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:50 pm

OBP

119 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:51 pm

With his pitch selection, Freddy Garcia has let us know who he thinks is the most dangerous batter in the Yankees lineup.

120 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:51 pm

[117] I think his release might be somewhat deceptive. Anyway Teix is having a lot of trouble with it. Then again, Teixeira is having a lot of trouble, period, the last couple of weeks.

121 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:52 pm

The line score for the Jays/Sox game looks like somebody wrote it in binary.

124 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:57 pm

[121] it went well, thanks man! of course, i'm an unhealthy critic, so i was displeased with a lot of the performance. but having to perform music at that insanely high level after a 7-year layoff, i'd say we did pretty well, overall. we have a ton of work to do and we'd like to keep it together and play more. we'll see.

we had a blast though, it was a ton o' fun. and at the end of the night, we got to play some old Frank Zappa tunes with FZ's guitarist, so that was quite an honor!!! : )

i'm still exhausted from it! : ~

125 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 2:57 pm

[127] i had a 1-tune gig 2 years ago. it was awesome! i got paid to learn a song (easy, didn't even need to chart it), then got paid for a full gig to perform the one tune. plus, there was backline set up, so there was a drumkit there - i only had to bring my sticks. more bonuses: the venue was close to my house, it was non-smoking and i ended up dating the singer soon thereafter!!!

too bad none of that lasted very long...

133 Just Fair   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:02 pm

Good morning. Good afternoon. Good night.

134 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:03 pm

will he bring Cokey in for Kotsay? i hope not...

good.

135 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:03 pm

Damn.

Our bullpen has really awesome potential. Coke was so good for a stretch, Robertson is pitching incredibly well now, and we know Bruney can be dominant.

136 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:04 pm

If you get through the inning, it looks nice to make all these chess moves. But, if this game ends up tied, the Yankees could be looking at extra innings with only Coke and Bruney available (assuming Gaudin is out after yesterday).

137 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:05 pm

[131] i think so! i hate knowing about that stuff, so nobody tells me. i believe there's audio of everything - our set and the set with the Zappa guy and his bassist. i believe there was video of that last set, but the audio on it was brutal. i've been sent some audio links, but am holding out to receive a CD of the night. i hope i get it soon. i'll be able to assess our performance better then...

i imagine we'll have stuff up on the website at some point in the coming months...

138 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:05 pm

[136] You forgot Hairston.

139 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:06 pm

[136] what about Melancon? oh, wait. that's right... : /

140 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:06 pm

Fastballs, Dave! Alexei cannot hit your heat.

141 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:06 pm

[138] nice!

142 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:06 pm

Uh. Oops.

143 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:07 pm

Seems like Girardi is holding tryouts in these games. He is passing up a chance to lock this game down with Hughes. With a month left to go, that's inexcusable. In yet another game, Girardi's poor managing has placed the Yankees in a poorer position to win a game. That's not the job of the manager.

144 rbj   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:07 pm

Who's this Phil Hughes guy they're talking about?

145 Just Fair   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:07 pm

Ramirez is one tall skinny drink of water.

146 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:07 pm

Tryouts, yes, exactly. Auditions.

147 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:07 pm

here's Hughes. he best be in for FOUR outs!!!

148 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:08 pm

Huh???

The scoreboard must be wrong.

149 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:08 pm

[144] i think he's some Shit Sox fan from California.

i just hope he's not too rusty...

i miss his hair out the back of his hat...

150 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:08 pm

[137] don't make me drive out to the ATL AND KICK YER ASS!!!!

how could you NOT have taped it???

it's 2009!

shit, OK Tokyo would chew off one of his own arms to hear your gig!!!

151 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:09 pm

[148] yeah, Professional Hitter and Ugly both failed to keep the binary line going. grand slam ties it!

152 williamnyy23   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:09 pm

After every game, I come away with a better feeling about the talent level of this team that is completely offset by a sense of dread for how Girardi will handle the playoffs.

153 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:10 pm

Then want to limit Joba to 30 IP over 6 games. My guess is they are hoping he can go 3,4,4,5,6 and then 7. That way he is strong and stretched out for the PS. Just my guess.

154 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:10 pm

Now I have no good story about what Girardi is up to. If this were an audition, obvious Robertson would be permitted to face Nix. If it's a matter of trying to win the game, then the Bullpen Roulette is foolish.

155 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:11 pm

[153] Interesting. That would be a logical plan. I therefore think it's extremely unlikely that you're right.

156 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:12 pm

[152] Like bunting with no one out in a 1 run game with a guy who's not a good bunter?

157 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:12 pm

LOVE the crowd with the "UUUUUUUUUUUUUUGHES"!!!!

158 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:12 pm

[150] no, it WAS taped!!! in fact, they used MY Zoom H4 recording device. it's just outta sight from me. apparently there were other people in the audience that taped it and there may have been a little video, but i'm not to know of those things. we should, at least, have a good solid CD of the night. i'm not sure if the house recorded it. i do know the sound in there was pretty amazing!

the stage was waaaay too dark for me though and i missed a lot of shit on my kit b/c of it. i was none to pleased. i had them re-arrange some lights midway thru the set. the kit i play for that Fusion trio, hasn't been taken outta my studio in YEARS, so i'm not used to having it on stage right now. my setup wasn't exactly perfect and i paid for it in a few places... : (

159 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:13 pm

whew!

fuck yeah!!!

160 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:13 pm

I like Hinske, though.

161 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:13 pm

holy hottie with the long hair, in the glasses and yankees jersey standing and clapping! ; )

162 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:15 pm

Aren't the White Sox going to be upset that we skipped the seventh inning, though? Since they're behind? It doesn't seem like that should be allowed.

163 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:16 pm

fucking paul byrd. WTF?!?!

164 Just Fair   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:17 pm

Let's go Geico runs.

165 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:18 pm

169 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:20 pm

ooh, i think he may have been out...

170 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:21 pm

fuck you, word press

171 Just Fair   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:21 pm

[158] Ok, good.

NOT SAYIN', JUST SAYIN'

Gotta get me a tape, I'll pimp it around the intertubes.

173 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:21 pm

Yeah, he didn't actually beat it. But it's still a good illustration of why you should hustle.

174 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:22 pm

let's go Leche!

175 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:23 pm

[163] I wonder how Byrd feels about pitching against the team* that leaked his name being on the Mitchell Report right before he was going to pitch in game 5 of the ALCS

*Yes, I realize it was probably some flunky at the firm who was writing the Report; but the flunky worked for Mitchell, after all, and Mitchell was a minority owner.

176 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:23 pm

[172] it'll be a CD. i've gotta "okay" it first, make sure i don't suck too very bad! there's actually prolly only the last 2 pieces that i'll allow to be spread. both are long in length...

177 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:24 pm

[175] whoops..pitching FOR the team (not against)

178 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:24 pm

179 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:24 pm

MELKY!!!

we must plate 1 or 2 more...

GEICO !!!

183 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:26 pm

Jeez. Talk about over-managing. Hariston for Damon because of the L/R matchup???

184 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:26 pm

Make 'em pay Johnny... I would ADORE a squeeze here with Hinske running over A(sshole) J(erkstore) at home.

185 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:26 pm

wait, why the fuck is Hairston on deck. what the hell happened to Johnny?!?!

oh, okay - chess match. i think i'd take my chances with Damon, though i have a feeling Hairston will do alright...

186 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:27 pm

[179] Byrd probably only wants a paycheck, but he ought to be pissed.

187 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:28 pm

Michael Kay thinks it might be an injury. If it's a chess match, then Joe is losing. (Imagine losing a chess match to Ozzie Guillen!)

188 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:29 pm

[187] oh good, i hope JD's not hurt...

189 OldYanksFan   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:29 pm

Great hit by Melky but really, can you let him get away with walking out of the box and almost getting thrown out at 2nd? I seriously take him to task for that. A play like that can cost a game.... and in the PS, can cost you the whole show (see Giambi not sliding, flip play).

190 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:30 pm

I always say this, but: when you IBB the open base and thereby load the bases, you put a huge amount of pressure on the new pitcher to throw strikes. That's the main problem with it.

191 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:30 pm

[189] eh, if Hairston's coming in for JD, you don't have much choice when it comes to making a point ...

Hurry back, Gritner!

192 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:31 pm

hairston ripped it. got another run. i'll take it.

i just hope Johnny's okay...

193 Just Fair   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:31 pm

Damon may have hurt himself making his putouts today too routine. : )

194 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:32 pm

Yeah, Linebrink had to throw a strike, so Hairston (who is a Professional Hitter [TM]) nailed it. With a little luck it would have been a hit, too.

195 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:32 pm

210 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:38 pm

Ohhhh. There are two eighth innings in this game. That's very unusual, isn't it?

211 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:38 pm

[207] but i'm great at Boggle!!! and we should get together and dust off Mille Bornes!!!

shit, at this rate, let Phil phinish the damn game...

Crud, Damon left the game with "cramping in both calves" (Michael Kay). He had that problem in the Spring.

6 pitches plus the one batter in the 7th. Yikes. C'ya on Labor Day, Phil

Cramping in his calves..not a particularly big deal for Johnny

218 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:43 pm

[213] fuck, shit, piss and hell. caray just mentioned it, too. hinske, swisher, leche and hairston out there...

Doc out, same results. it's now 6-0.

nice hit Po !

220 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:44 pm

[213] I don't think that's a major worry. A major worry would be quad pull, knee swelling or major back spasms.

221 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:45 pm

jesus, 7-0. i need to stop looking. whatever. i just hope they go on a bigass losing spree and miss the postseaon...

222 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:46 pm

I have to say that after the way the Chisox beat up on the Yankees the first three games in Chicago, pounding the nails in their coffin three straight games in Yankee Stadium is awfully sweet.

223 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:47 pm

[217] looks like you can download it, but i don't know that there's a place online where 2 people can play each other at the same time...

224 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:47 pm

225 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:47 pm

[221] Dude, the Jays are absolutely mailing it in right now. Yanks are going to play Jays and O's 12 out of 15 games, and can put the division away.

226 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:48 pm

i would take a 3-run bomb here. really, i would.

227 Just Fair   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:49 pm

228 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:49 pm

That was just astounding positioning.

229 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:49 pm

great positioning by alexi

[225] i hope we destroy them in those games. we've still gotta beat the galos and shit sox...

230 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:50 pm

ooh, i hope it's Hughes to close it out...

231 Just Fair   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:50 pm

[226] You're in luck. Coke's coming in.

232 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:50 pm

Cokey ftw...

Good. I like Cokey. I know he's sucked recently.

233 rbj   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:52 pm

[224] Or they could do a video race between the two trucks.

234 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:52 pm

i don't see what can hurt about letting Hughes finish this up. he's barely thrown...

then again, game's in hand, coke's been struggling some, and this is stress free work.

let's just hope Mo doesn't have to get up...

235 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:53 pm

[233] Or how about an old-fashioned slot car race? I'd buy that.

236 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:54 pm

I was thinking I'd rather see Bruney, but I suspect Joe's message to Bruney here is: I'm saving you for a tough spot. Maybe BB needs that kind of psychological treatment?

237 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:55 pm

i didn't realize Hinske has 60 career stolen bases.

238 Just Fair   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:56 pm

Jesus, Coke. WTF.
Man. 4 months in the books. At least 1 full one left. Bittersweet.

239 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:56 pm

well, that wasn't difficult to predict.

i'd be really scared using Coke in the PS...

240 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:56 pm

Somebody say, "I'd rather see a home run than a walk."

241 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:56 pm

Damn Phil Coke sucks.

242 rbj   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:58 pm

[235] Oh yes.

[240] I'd rather see a home run than a walk.

243 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:58 pm

[239] then seeing Phil Coke give up a meaningless homerun might actually be a good thing. Maybe the Yankees will sit down and take a hard look at him and decide they don't need him.

Nevertheless, nice sweep....I hope when Ozzie Guillen gets fired this is the series that did him in.

244 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:58 pm

how sweep it is!

Ace vultures the win...i'm sure.

245 Just Fair   ~  Aug 30, 2009 3:58 pm

Roll on Pinstripers.

246 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 4:01 pm

[244] I guess that's right. Scorer's decision, but Ace certainly is the most deserving.

247 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 4:03 pm

[246] yup, Ace is now 9-1

248 rbj   ~  Aug 30, 2009 4:06 pm

OK, this is gross but interesting. I was out earlier mowing the lawn and sipping a coke. Later on I got a bad case of heartburn, even 2 Pepcid Completes couldn't stop it. Now I just vomited. There was a bee in it. So that's what my heartburn was.

[248] Steve-O would be proud.

250 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 4:09 pm

Rox-Giants game just started. should be a good one. Dodgers are in extras at Cincy...

253 thelarmis   ~  Aug 30, 2009 4:15 pm

shit sox complete the shutout. but Cruz just gave the Rangers a 1-run lead with a 2-run shot. 3-2 top 7th

254 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Aug 30, 2009 4:49 pm

I didn't get to see the game today, but from the boxscore, I have but one question: how come *today* Hughes was allowed to get four outs but not the day before yesterday when it might have spared us the unpredictability of extra innings?

Wtf?

255 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 4:52 pm

Well, Robertson put two men on base with two out. Joe seemed to feel it wasn't very safe to let him pitch to another batter, so Phil got to nail the last man in the seventh. (The game was still close.)

Of course, this doesn't answer the part about why Hughes could get more than three outs on Friday. I don't know that one. (It must have something to do with the Magical Eighth Inning, but I couldn't tell you more than that.)

256 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Aug 30, 2009 4:59 pm

[255] Maybe the Magical Eighth Inning rule is suspended for the Sabbath.

You know, if we can go 32-0 the rest of the way, we'll match the record of the '98 squad.

Just a thought.

259 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Aug 30, 2009 5:02 pm

[257] Indeed. It's really aggravating.

260 RIYank   ~  Aug 30, 2009 5:05 pm

[258] Wow, they were good.
Yeah, but on the other hand if we win 18 that's 100 wins. Very do-able.

Also, we've won 57 out of the last 70 games. That's a very, very good pace (that pace would win 132 games if maintained over the whole season).

261 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Aug 30, 2009 6:03 pm

What??? 57-13? Seriously? Goddamn. Really?

100 would be very nice and yes, is very do-able.

1998 was obscene, no question about it.
