Dream Machine

reds

Joe Posnanski’s new book, The Machine,  is about the 1975 Reds. It is compulsively readable and learns even smart dudes like Rob Neyer new things about that team. Neyer chats with Pos over at ESPN today.

Oh, and the book hits the shelves today as well.

I'm gonna err on the side of optimism in regards to Andy. With the team desperately trying to cling to contention last year he pitched through pain/fatigue, with a 7.5 game lead this late in the season you really don't have to go down that road again so why bother?

He has struggled a bit lately after being so good since the All-Star break. If this helps him get in a groove again, especially in the PS, it might be blessing in disguise.

Looking forward to this one in the offseason. My pop always said the Big Red Machine was the best team of the modern age..funny but I can't seem to name even one pitcher on that team though, I guess Bench, Morgan, Rose, etc overshadowed the pitching staff...
