That ride is almost as sweet as this one: http://www.life.com/image/2106857.

Man that Matsui travels in style.

Great job, Chyll. I look forward to the winter debuts of Yankeeography: Score Truck, and Centerstage: Score Truck- only on YES!

3 ms october   ~  Sep 21, 2009 1:13 pm

nicely done chyll, and of course hank for the phrase.
glad to see that is a big score truck!!

4 thelarmis   ~  Sep 21, 2009 1:21 pm

this...RULES!!!

there needs to be some pinstripes on the Score Truck. i remember describing how one should look on one of my old posts.

bang up job, Chyll !!!

Shaun P. does some good detective work and leaves it in the comments at Chyll's blog. but, he still adds an "a" to my name and thinks it's "the Alarmis" - aaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!

Cult really does have the BEST line - wishing the Score Truck would run over the Rally Monkey. here's hopin' that happens tonight...and tomorrow...tomorrow's tomorrow...and again in the ALCS!!!

GO ANDY!!! GO YANKEES!!! GO SCORE TRUCK!!!

5 thelarmis   ~  Sep 21, 2009 1:22 pm

i hope this photo doesn't get lost in this thread. we should find a way to keep it alive. tie it into the Banter. t-shirts, or something.

HA! The Score Truck arrives just in time for October Glory!!!

6 thelarmis   ~  Sep 21, 2009 1:36 pm

[5] i just refreshed Chyll's comment page and Emma had the same idea as me - Bronx Banter t-shirts combining HA! w/ Score Truck. she even adds "Who's Karim Garcia?", which would make Bama very happy!

7 Shaun P.   ~  Sep 21, 2009 1:48 pm

[4] thelarmis, my humble apologies. As crazy as this will sound, you can blame my copy of Excel, which auto-corrected thelarmis to thealarmis, and then I copied it over without realizing it. My bad.

I miss Fairpole and the Toaster right now - Ken could have probably gathered those stats a lot faster (and more completely) than I did.

Roll Score Truck, roll! This whole thing will make it difficult for me to teach next period. My students will wonder why I keep laughing for no apparent reason...

9 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 21, 2009 2:26 pm

So, so lovely.

Man, I love this place.

10 thelarmis   ~  Sep 21, 2009 2:35 pm

[7] oh man, it's MORE than okay!!! : )

11 thelarmis   ~  Sep 21, 2009 2:38 pm

one VERY important thing i'd like to add to our beloved Score Truck:

a license plate. here's what it should be:

SHDW GMS

Shadow Games = tribute to Todd Drew

12 thelarmis   ~  Sep 21, 2009 2:38 pm

[11] the GMS can double as George M. Steinbrenner

HA!!!

13 thelarmis   ~  Sep 21, 2009 2:41 pm

[7] do you get mad when people spell it "Sean" or "Shawn"?! i, too, have a (real) first name that has an alt. spelling. mine is the waaaaay more common version, but it still gets misspelled, including the other night. actually, ditto for my last name, which bothers me more...

14 Bama Yankee   ~  Sep 21, 2009 2:54 pm

Nice job, Chyll. You beat me to it. I had planned on photoshopping a Score Truck (I even did a google image search for a few source pics of trucks a few weeks ago), but I've been too busy lately.

[6] :-)

15 thelarmis   ~  Sep 21, 2009 2:55 pm

[14] have you been hit with crazy rain? it's like non-stop here...

16 Emma Span   ~  Sep 21, 2009 3:18 pm

Another hypothetical Banter t-shirt slogan:

"UNACCEPTABLE"

17 Bama Yankee   ~  Sep 21, 2009 3:24 pm

[15] Yeah, every time I open the door on my SUV there are several animals lined up two by two... ;-)

18 ms october   ~  Sep 21, 2009 3:24 pm

[16] yes definitely emma, that is also an excellent part of bb lexicon.
alex got us all hyped up about some shirts two off-seasons ago :} - we need to make these shirts happen this year

19 Shaun P.   ~  Sep 21, 2009 3:29 pm

[13] The misspelling of my first name doesn't bother me anymore. I've found most people catch on to the right way pretty quickly.

But it did bother me when, as a kid, we'd go on vacation and all the touristy trinkets that had pre-spelled names on them had "Sean" and "Shawn" but never "Shaun". That still bugs me, to be honest.

Your last name being misspelled? That would definitely irk me. Mine is both easy to spell and pretty well-known, so I've never had to deal with that, fortunately . . .

[16] Even in this weakened economy, I'd gladly shell out some cash for a Banter t-shirt. Who will make this happen?

20 thelarmis   ~  Sep 21, 2009 3:34 pm

the front of the shirt can be the Score Truck, with SHDW GMS license plate and "Bronx Banter" above the truck.

the back of the shirt can list phrases from our argot :

HA!

Carp!

"Who's Karim Garcia?

UNACCEPTABLE!

[134]

Rob Gee / Bum Rush

Orgies Timer

G.O.B.

21 thelarmis   ~  Sep 21, 2009 3:36 pm

[19] my last name is pretty common - very common in sports (mostly football) - but is sometimes pronounced wrong, by adding an extra vowel. i hate that.

i'm always surprised when someone misspells my first name, 'coz my spelling is easily the MOST common.

i'm all about the t-shirt. ms. october's softball game idea in NYC is really good too, though tough to organize.

22 thelarmis   ~  Sep 21, 2009 3:37 pm

is the missing comment #134 or #184. that memory has been mysteriously erased!

23 thelarmis   ~  Sep 21, 2009 3:41 pm

[17] seriously, man. i'm about to trade in my 4-door sedan for a freaking arc. it's nuts! of course, i keep ending up getting caught in the worst downpours. i'm about to again now...

24 Shaun P.   ~  Sep 21, 2009 3:42 pm

[22] It was comment 134 that was 134'd.

[20] Orgies Timer?

25 Diane Firstman   ~  Sep 21, 2009 3:53 pm

[24]

Orgies Timer anagrams to Sergio Mitre

27 thelarmis   ~  Sep 21, 2009 3:56 pm

[24] ah, i did have it right! "Area 134"

[25] yeah, what she said!

28 Shaun P.   ~  Sep 21, 2009 3:58 pm

[25] Thanks!

29 Raf   ~  Sep 21, 2009 4:08 pm

[26] Somewhere Shawn Chacon is smiling.

30 Horace Clarke Era   ~  Sep 21, 2009 4:26 pm

I love the whole Score Truck History thing ... and it pleases me so much that I posted right away that 'Score Truck has the potential to become a Banter mantra..."

The phrase was so obviously, necessarily, perfect. The baseball gods were guiding Hank's figners that afternoon.

Post it and they will come?

31 Shaun P.   ~  Sep 21, 2009 4:49 pm

[30] I just posted some more Score Truck stats for July. Its safe to say that, for that first month, monkeypants, thelarmis, and ms october definitely highlighted the Score Truck more than anyone else.

(I was going to say "drove the Score Truck" but that's really on the Yanks, no?)

32 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 21, 2009 4:53 pm

Yes, Emma, Unacceptable!

Indeed.

33 Horace Clarke Era   ~  Sep 21, 2009 5:00 pm

Did the Banter come up with EDSP?

34 Bama Yankee   ~  Sep 21, 2009 5:12 pm

[33] Not sure about that one, but we did come up with the BFOG+ stat...

35 Emma Span   ~  Sep 21, 2009 5:30 pm

[18] [19] I dunno; I'm not much of a designer. But I'll talk to Alex and Cliff about it, maybe we could get something going this off-season - for fun, not for profit.

36 thelarmis   ~  Sep 21, 2009 5:40 pm

[33] [34] Yes! let's add EDSP & BFOG+ to the list in [20].

it's gotta be the back of the shirt!!!

[35] non-profit works for me. would be cool if any proceeds - costs, shipping - could go to some kind of Todd Drew Memorial Fund, of some sort.

37 Bama Yankee   ~  Sep 21, 2009 5:48 pm

[35] I'd be willing to help out if needed. I have a little experience in that area. Although, IIRC we have some professional designers that stop by now and then (remember when someone wanted a "worm killer" sign a few years back and a couple guys pitched in with the design?). I'm sure we could come with something...

38 Paul   ~  Sep 21, 2009 5:53 pm

[35] Many sites are now using t-shirts and such (bobbleheads, hats, stickers, etc) as a legit revenue source. I don't see why you guys should be charitable. You give your time freely and while outright "donations" might seem unseemly, I see nothing wrong with paying $20 for a t-shirt knowing you guys will get 50-75% of that.

Nothing wrong with enthusiasm but we're seeing in this thread why design by committee never works. One idea/concept per shirt. No more, no less. Many great ideas = many great shirts.

39 Shaun P.   ~  Sep 21, 2009 5:54 pm

[35] While I'm very much in favor of not for profit usually - and especially if proceeds went towards something for Todd, as thelarmis suggests in [36] - you guys give us all so much, for nothing, I wouldn't mind if you made a few bucks off the t-shirts.

40 thelarmis   ~  Sep 21, 2009 5:57 pm

i wouldn't mind a single bit if the Bronx Banter powers that be pocketed proceeds. i'm all about it!

[38] i don't think there's too many cooks in this kitchen. Bronx Banter "logo" on top, Score Truck photo below. the back can list a lot of our argot - (see list in [20] and [36]) - on the back. think of it like a concert shirt with the tour dates on the back! : )

41 thelarmis   ~  Sep 21, 2009 5:58 pm

whatever it is, we should keep this thread going and approach it, for real, in the offseason.

42 Horace Clarke Era   ~  Sep 21, 2009 6:39 pm

And who could ever forget BFOG+ ... yes, indeed.

We're gonna need a bigger t-shirt!

43 RIYank   ~  Sep 21, 2009 8:04 pm

Hi.
Here's a nerdy stat thing. I know this isn't the right thread for it, but there is currently no good thread for nerdy stat things, and I may not hang around late tonight.

I decided to run Baseball Miusing's lineup analysis on the current Yankees. Keep in mind that this tool ignores (1) psychology, in that it assumes that batters would have the same OBP and SLG no matter where you slotted them, and (2) speed on the bases. I think the second of these is probably negligible, esp. the way the Yanks play, but the first could be huge (cough cough A-Rod cough cough Cano). So, with that in mind, here is the best line-up for the Yankees:

Rodriguez
Matsui
Damon
Teixeira
Swisher
Cano
Posada
Cabrera
Jeter

Is that weird? Here's something weirder.

The TOP THIRTY RUN PRODUCING LINE-UPS had Jeter batting ninth and A-Rod batting first. Also Melky eighth.
A-Rod first must be because his OBP tops the team. Melky eighth because that turns out to be the best spot to hide your weakest hitter (not ninth because of turning the order over, I believe). But why Jeter ninth? Maybe ninth is the "second lead-off spot", and so much of Jeter's OBP comes from his BA? I can't fathom it.

By the way, the line-up tool was based in part on the work of Toaster Great Ken Arneson.

I want a Score Truck t-shirt!!! Can anyone make this happen?
