Hey everybody, look at us, we're just browsing.......
Wasn't that Cashman's mantra last winter? : D

Speaking of classy, I like this about CC. (He says Felix Hernandez should get the Cy Young this year.)

3 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2009 7:08 pm

[2] Surprisingly, I found the comments intelligent. I do not believe ERA+ accounts for division strength. KF probably has faced the toughest competition with the unbalanced schedule having him face LA and Texas. ZG has some better numbers but lesser competition in the AL Central. Agreed that at best, CC is 3rd.

The question is who has been better. Felix or Greinke?

4 Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2009 7:24 pm

No doubter for The Captain.

5 The Hawk   ~  Sep 30, 2009 7:36 pm

I kind of hope Joba does poorly tonight. Maybe then they'll rethink giving him a post-season start.

6 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2009 7:37 pm

Wow, not a big crowd for Joba's make-or-break game, huh?

7 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2009 7:37 pm

[5] I'm exactly the opposite. But it looks like you're getting your wish.

8 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2009 7:41 pm

Three walks and three hits in an inning and a third

9 ms october   ~  Sep 30, 2009 7:41 pm

[5] hopefully the yanks need a 4th starter at some point - would be nice if joba could be good - his command is crappy again

10 rbj   ~  Sep 30, 2009 7:42 pm

"Nobody get hurt, will ya, hah?"

Joba hasn't gotten the message. He's hurting his chance at a postseason start.

11 The Hawk   ~  Sep 30, 2009 7:42 pm

I'd rather see him do his "thing" here than during a playoff game, that's all I'm saying. And I'm nearly positive it's inevitable, but the Yankees don't seem to agree. So hopefully tonight gets those wheels turning.

12 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2009 7:44 pm

Lucky.

13 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2009 7:48 pm

I can live with the 3 hits, but 3 walks is UNACCEPTABLE.
Really... what happened to Joba? His control was never this bad. Is he afraid to throw strikes?

14 joe   ~  Sep 30, 2009 7:51 pm

I just tuned in... Leadoff three walks? Ridiculous.

15 ms october   ~  Sep 30, 2009 7:56 pm

[13] flash said his mechanics were off - i'm not an expert at this, but it seems kind of like he is flopping off the mound

16 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2009 7:59 pm

Here's a question. It looks to me like Jackson is scheduled to pitch on the 3rd, Verlander on the 4th. So if (the Tigers win the Division and) we pick the A series, which starts on the 7th, would the Tigers go with Jackson and then Verlander, each on short rest?

17 The Hawk   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:05 pm

The Yankees should pitch Chamberlain, Gaudin and Swisher, all on short rest if possible. Just to show who's boss.

18 Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:06 pm

Girardi was right. Joba can go 7 tonight. He'll just have to throw 180 pitches. Cripes. : / Nice to see Pavano shit the bed in the 2nd for the Twinkies. 4-2 Tiggers.

19 51cq24   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:12 pm

[5] i hope he's never good so that they never rely on him

20 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:15 pm

[18] Also, Wakefield sucks.
He wasn't going to get a post-season start, and of course you do expect some horrendous appearances from Wakey, so it's not a big deal. Not like yesterday, the Laptop Homer Festival.
RSN is officially not worried, because these aren't real games. But I sense some unease.

21 Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:22 pm

[20] Grazi. I was just going to look up which Sox pitcher was getting spanked tonight. Poor nation. : ( Ha.

22 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:29 pm

[21] Well, it was Wakefield. Now it's Fernando Cabrera. (I have no idea. Never heard of him.)
Oh, no, now it's Dustin Richardson. I wonder if he's gritty and small.

23 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:31 pm

Gosh, it's great that they're stretching Joba out with all these extra pitches. /irony

24 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:33 pm

Well, Joba's out, and I'm afraid that was pretty good evidence.
And that's it for me -- nothing interesting left in the game.

25 ms october   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:34 pm

[16] espn has jackson on the 2nd with porcello on the 3rd (verlander the 4th)

so jackson could go game 1 on regular rest
if the game on the 4th is meaningless they would probably either skip verlander or give him an abbreviated start; if he has to pitch for real i would guess they go with him on short rest, but if they go procello game 2 and verlander in a big game 3 that might not be the worst thing for the tigers (they ca,'t get him for game 5 but you gotta get to game 5:}

26 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:36 pm

Well, that went well.

27 rbj   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:36 pm

Well we know #4 starter is Gaudin now. (If I've got that spelled korrectely)

28 Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:39 pm

D f%#%ing Minus. 91 pitches, 7 hits and 3 runs vs. the Royals. Ugh. On the bright side, Joba has over 150 innings under his belt this year at the ML level. He didn't get hurt but he didn't show the progress most expected(hoped). Ah youth............A good postseason performance(s) sure would go a long way

29 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:41 pm

[25] Oh, right. That's right, I just forgot to look at both games of the double-header.

Yeah, I think it's much worse for the Tigers to have Porcello twice and Verlander in Game Three than the other way around. I'm pretty sure they'd have Verlander start Game Two on short rest. And it's true that the game on the 4th could be meaningless -- if the Tigers win today it becomes not-too-unlikely that they clinch before then.

30 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:44 pm

Jobamania...eeewwwwww....but was he "making good pitches?"

「0」 I LOVE Rodney!! "Is that your grandson? Hey, what a nice boy, what a good boy..now I know why tigers eat their young..Oh!"

31 ms october   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:44 pm

[28] ever wrote that on one of your students' papers? :}

[29] yeah i agree, the most likely option is verlander on short rest - and furthermore, the twins are doing their best to make his next start irrelevant

32 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:44 pm

Man, the Red Sox are getting whipped. It's Papi and the Pawsox. Still.

33 Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:47 pm

[31] I've put an F, D. # symbol. % sign, and minus on papers, but never like that. lol.

35 joe   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:53 pm

Man, Pavano just gave up a 3 run double. 7-2 Tigers, two outs.

36 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:53 pm

And Pavano coughs up the game.
I guess no more baseball for me tonight. Plenty of other things to do.

Later, team.

37 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:54 pm

Wow... Manny TheCarMan in in the 6th... in a TEN-NOTHING game. Meaningless or not, the Sox should be ashamed to play this kind of baseball.

38 ms october   ~  Sep 30, 2009 8:56 pm

[34] haha, nice :}

[36] yeah, i second that -
hard to believe it is the last regular season home game

39 Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2009 9:01 pm

It never gets old. : O

41 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2009 9:03 pm

Would Betemit have hit 29 HRs?

42 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Sep 30, 2009 9:04 pm

「40」 One more time, ladies and gentlemen.."The New York Yankees announce that Wilson Betemit has been traded to the Chicago White Sox for Nick Swisher.."

J Gathright breaks up Halladay's no hitter.

44 Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2009 9:05 pm

If the coaching staff can convince Melky to not slide headfirst into 1st, I have faith they can convince Joba to throw more strikes.

45 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Sep 30, 2009 9:19 pm

「44」 Has Melky stopped doing that for good?

46 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 30, 2009 9:23 pm

Evening, Team. Just popping in to say hi and oh, dear, consulting my box score, I'm amazed Joba only allowed 3, with a line like that.

Was he as bad as his line suggests?

What are we going to do with him?

47 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Sep 30, 2009 9:29 pm

「46」 4 walks in 3 innings..? That's a paddlin'..
Not throwing first-pitch strikes.? That's a paddlin'...
Doing this against the Royals..? Double paddlin'...

48 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 30, 2009 9:33 pm

Joba was worse than his stat line suggests. No command at all. He got off lucky tonight.

49 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2009 9:37 pm

The hell?

50 Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2009 9:38 pm

Triple my ass. E9!!

51 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 30, 2009 9:42 pm

Got to love Swish out there...he's not Abreu but he's sometimes, um, an adventure

52 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Sep 30, 2009 9:47 pm

Buck tried to steal home?? WTF?? Damn you, vague GameDay despcriptions!

53 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2009 9:47 pm

54 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2009 9:47 pm

[52] Botched squeeze

55 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2009 9:49 pm

Halladay CG shutout, 12-0, 4 HRs for Toronto, 3 hits for the Sox.

56 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Sep 30, 2009 9:51 pm

「54」 Squeeze with the speedster catcher on 3rd..? Not sure about that..

「55」 Great to see the Red Sox respecting the game..

57 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2009 10:12 pm

Mo still throws a sinker to second.

58 Yankster   ~  Sep 30, 2009 10:14 pm

Great to see the Sox losing their, what, sixth game in a row? Is that some new fangled post-season preparation plan? Get used to losing so they aren't afraid of losing? I hope we get to walk all over them...

59 Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2009 10:25 pm

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm..................Let's go Pena!!

60 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2009 10:27 pm

61 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Sep 30, 2009 10:38 pm

「60」 Oh well..Royals can build on that I guess..wanna debate the Polanski situation?? :)
