"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

Almost Done

So the Twins pull out a 5-4 win and now it is on the Tigers to win tonight. Man, it’d be great if the Tigers lose somehow, giving some real juice to the final day of the season.

Andy Pettitte goes for the Yanks tonight.

Nobody get hurt and nobody gets hurt.

Time to pad some stats. Let’s Go Yan-Kees!

(And, Let’s Go White Sox.)

Gritner singled and stole his 25th bag to lead off the game.

Fuckett, has already given 2 early runs...

3 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 3, 2009 7:32 pm

Ben Zobrist, TB's 2nd baseman, has an OPS of .941. I mean, that blows away what Dustpan did last year. Them's MVP numbers.

On a previous post, Just Fair noted:
"WOW!! I had no idea the Rockies were 1 game behind the Torre’s."
Good catch! Since only 2 games are left, the Rocks need to win both to take the Division. If so, it would mean the Rocks won their last 7 and the Dodgers would have lost their last 7. That would be a historic choke... would it not?

5 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 7:35 pm

[3] speaking of that little midget, he just cut the deficit with his 14th longball.

also, speaking of 2nd baseman, Robbie is now up to .323

6 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 7:37 pm

[4] yeah, it'll be pretty amazing if the Rox sweep this series and take the division. home field is still at play in the NL, with all 4 teams hovering around with the same record.

7 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 7:38 pm

Carlos Quen'in, no you di'int, w/ a solo job. Pale Hose up early, 1-0.

8 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 7:43 pm

upton giving us fits this weekend. that was some AB. 11 pitch walk.

Roid Sox down 3-1 (not that it matters, but it's always nice for them to lose. esp. w/ Fuckett on the mound...)

White Sox threatening...kinda.

9 ms october   ~  Oct 3, 2009 7:54 pm

[3] dusty's mvp season is pretty lame - his mvp year is jeter's career average

[4] they'll still make the playoffs though - so i think that dimishes how much of a choke job it is

i see andy is really rebelling against shaving lately

10 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 7:59 pm

we're not having a real good warmup for the postseason, but whatever. it's all good.

White up 2-0
Red down 4-1

11 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 8:00 pm

[9] that makes 2 of us. Andy and me, on the shaving part, i mean! : )

12 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 8:01 pm

when we started reeling off a bunch of wins a few weeks back, i figured we'd end the season w/ 103 victories. i still hope that's the case. though, of course, i'd be fine with 104! : )

good AB Gritner. now...RUN!!!

13 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 8:05 pm

Brett listened!

fake bloodied color sox mounting a comeback...

14 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 8:14 pm

yikes, shit sox are smokin' it. up 8-4, already. goddamn, do i HATE them. i know we match up better with them, but i still hope the Halos sweep 'em right to the golf course...

15 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 3, 2009 8:33 pm

White Sox up 3-0.

16 rbj   ~  Oct 3, 2009 8:38 pm

The our guys getting hit shit has to stop.

17 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 3, 2009 8:43 pm

[16] Best be some payback for that shit..too many times now!
Twins-Tigers pretty exciting..too bad it's all just to see who gets swept by the Bombers...

18 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 3, 2009 8:46 pm

Wow, Blue Jays "cut the neck" (Japanese translation) of JP! Strange timing?

19 rbj   ~  Oct 3, 2009 8:54 pm

Andy at 90 pitches, one more batter?

20 rbj   ~  Oct 3, 2009 8:56 pm

WS have 5 stolen bases, Tiggers have issued 6 walks. Do the Detroit players want to take October off?

21 Just Fair   ~  Oct 3, 2009 8:58 pm

[4] There was a Rockies site at the old place, Bad Altitude I think, where the author basically quit b/c he was so fed up with the organization. Man, google rules. : D. I wonder how he's doing nowadays.
http://badaltitude.baseballtoaster.com/

22 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 8:58 pm

yeah, not a great outing for Andy.

Hairston hit twice...WTF?!?!

at least Johnny got a good hit.

Chitown up 4-0

23 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 8:59 pm

[21] Mark TR Donahue, was his name, methinks. (i haven't followed the link). he was a cool cat and good writer. musician, to boot! man, the Toaster was a hella cool place!!! : )

24 Just Fair   ~  Oct 3, 2009 8:59 pm

Is it Wednesday yet? Bollocks!

25 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 3, 2009 8:59 pm

And that's why Hinske is a pinch-hitter...

26 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:05 pm

we sure are playin' some ugly baseball these last coupla games. get it outta the way now, i suppose...

27 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:16 pm

3-run tater coming for Gardner!

28 Just Fair   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:17 pm

[27] I'll have what you're havin'. : )

29 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:18 pm

hey thelarmis, I went out for some "yakitori" (grilled chicken skewers) and beer last night with the lady, the place had on Wayne Shorter's "Speak No Evil"! They said they were using "U-SEN" in the restaurant, a kind of satellite radio I think without commercials..just one jazz album after another. Will have to make this place one of my regular stops now!

30 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:18 pm

[28] Morning cup o' joe and some pastry is all it is!

31 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:21 pm

[28] and i'll join ya in a coupla hours, after i finish practicing! : )

[29] um, easily one of the greatest albums of all-time!!!!!! hell, i think i might even like the "yakitori". shhh, don't tell RI Yank! ; )

i'm kinda back on a big Blue Note shopping spree. today, i've been trying to track down several of their very old titles, from the early 50's, before the LP's and hard-bop phase. earlier recordings, from the old 10" records, that they released as Conn Series and other versions. i have a decent amount of those titles and i'm looking to find more...the rest of 'em. wish me luck!

32 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:22 pm

[30 i'm gonna start with some root beer and organic burritos, then eventually graduate to the big leagues with some root beer minus the root!!!

33 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:25 pm

[32] my half bracket has nothing on Jazz Tokyo's fancy brackets!

34 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:26 pm

quick inning there for Ace.

Tigers down 4-zip with 6 outs left...

35 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:26 pm

[31][32] Awesome! The Blue Note and the root-beer minus the root..I'm going to turn off the game and get ready to head out for some family time. Can't wait till Game One..how many days to go??

36 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:30 pm

野球33野球 That's da truth! (野球="field ball", Japanese for "baseball")

37 rbj   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:36 pm

Pavano on Sunday for Chicago? Not sure how I want to think about that.

38 Just Fair   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:38 pm

Leyland putting a couple of tobacco farmer kids through med school this week.

39 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:41 pm

[37] wait, do you mean for Minny? i think Danks goes for Chicago...

40 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:42 pm

[38] well, Tigers are definitely threatening. 1st & 3rd, nobody out in the 8th. our coach (tony pena) in to pitch for Ozzie...

41 rbj   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:42 pm

[39] Er, yeah. Darn keyboard.

A one game playoff on Tuesday would help the Yankees, but I want Pavano to lose.

42 rbj   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:43 pm

Now 4-1 in Detroit.

43 RIYank   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:43 pm

[31] Did you know that I have never tasted chicken of any kind, stick or otherwise?

44 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:47 pm

Shin-Soo Choo just became the 12th member of the 20-20 club this season. Troy Tulowitzki joined the other day.

Ryan Braun is closest, needing only 1 stolen base. Nate McLouth needs 1 SB & HR, each.

45 RIYank   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:48 pm

Whew, the other Tony Pena gets out of a jam.

46 Just Fair   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:50 pm

[43] Have you ever drank water? I haven't. ; )

47 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:51 pm

[41] i hear ya. but if it's easier for us to play Minny, let's let them fight to the finish and then we can brutally beat the hell outta Pavano in the playoffs! : )

[42] and it stays 4-1, headed to the 9th. i'd love to not have to face Verlander next week. then again, playing the Baggy Dome sucks, though we've been quite successful vs. MInny in the playoffs this decade...

[43] really? no way! you ane me... we...we could be pals! 'cept the Bird, is about all i actually do eat!!! ; )

48 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:51 pm

[46] i believe his water is scotch flavored! ; )

49 RIYank   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:53 pm

[46] I have had ice many times. Does water taste like that?
[48] Mmmmmm. Now you're talking. In fact, I'm going to get some right now!

50 RIYank   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:55 pm

Ladies and gentlemen, Fernando Rodney!

I have suddenly become very confident in our ability to beat the Tigers. We could be behind three runs in the eighth, and I'd be thinking, "Yep, pretty much got 'em right where we want 'em."

51 rbj   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:56 pm

[49] Water tastes like chicken.

[48] Nice! Eminently acceptable.

52 RIYank   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:58 pm

A couple of ounces of Balvenie, with an ice cube.

HAHAHAHAHAHahahahahaha. That was awesome.

53 Just Fair   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:58 pm

A week ago it seemed there was much buzz in regards to the races being finished. But now we could have 4 groups of nailbiting fans tomorrow IF the Rockies win tonight. They are in regardless but overtaking the Torre's would be quite the feat. I'm glad to say that I've probably seen only 3 live Manny ab's this year. So glad he's out west.

54 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 9:59 pm

Rios up, bases loaded, no one out.

yeah, fuck it - let's just beat whoever the hell we have to play in the postseason!

this one goes to ELEVEN !!!! (wins, that is...)

55 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:00 pm

i hope hinske realizes he's facing CHOATE and deposits one in the seats...

56 RIYank   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:00 pm

Oh, I guess not everyone is watching the Tigers. What I said was "awesome" was a bases loaded pop fly that landed in front of Granderson.

57 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:01 pm

so...how fast is Guzman? i haven't seen him run...

58 Just Fair   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:02 pm

Choate hit the shortstop right in the chest for the 1-6-3. Bizarre.

59 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:02 pm

[53] yeah, they're both in out west, but it would be cool to see the Rox overtake Torre/Manny. home field throughout is still up in the air. all 4 NL teams are really close in the standings...

60 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:04 pm

[58] ah, crap.

3 outs to go in Detroit.

61 rbj   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:06 pm

Lead off walk bottom of ninth in Detroit.

62 RIYank   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:06 pm

Matt Thornton walks the lead off man in the ninth with a four run lead.

"Closer" just means something different to fans of other teams, huh?

63 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:07 pm

Griffey just hit his 19th homer. i think that's #630. i wonder if he plays next season. i doubt he'll catch Mays, but i'd love to see Junior swing again in '10.

64 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:08 pm

[61] my favorite! : /

65 RIYank   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:08 pm

[60] 2 to go now.

66 rbj   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:08 pm

[63] Same here.

One down for the Tiggers.

67 RIYank   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:10 pm

Uno mas...
(Podsednik cut in front of Rios and made that a little scary)

68 rbj   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:10 pm

Two down.

69 rbj   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:10 pm

Tigers and Twins now tied.

70 RIYank   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:11 pm

And the Tiggers drop into a tie!
Wow. This is awesome. Just great.

71 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:11 pm

wow. baseball. predictions. cannot.

72 RIYank   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:12 pm

[71] John Sterling talking in his sleep?

73 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:14 pm

Ryan Howard hit his 45th homer, giving him four straight seasons with 45-plus HRs and 135-plus RBIs. Only Babe Ruth and Sammy Sosa have accomplished that feat.

74 Just Fair   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:16 pm

I wonder if Gardner is going to stand in his garage all winter and just stare at a tee.

75 JeremyM   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:16 pm

[63] Griffey has had a hell of a homestand with I think 3 homers. If he's going out, he's doing it in style.

76 rbj   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:18 pm

Good night all.

I want to see a crisp, well played game tomorrow.

77 thelarmis   ~  Oct 3, 2009 10:23 pm

detroit has a negative run differential. -3
