Piggy backing from the last thread. I believe if Burnett can't wrap his head around pitching to Posada, then it's too big a gamble to have him behind the dish. By all means have Molina catch him in all 3 rounds. : ) I don't want to see a constant stream of shake offs, mound visits, and batters reaching first on dropped 3rd strikes. They Yanks survived 96 and 98 with some light hitting catcher catching most of the time. What was his name? Oh yeah, Joey Joe Joe.

2 monkeypants   ~  Oct 4, 2009 1:24 pm

[1] Well, Girardi had a career .666 OPS, and in 1996 and 1998 he was over .700. And he started a considerable number of games. Molina, on the other hand is a career .609 OPS hitter, and the last two years he is below .600. There is light hitting, and there is light hitting. Molina takes it to the next level of awful.

3 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2009 1:34 pm

[2] I hear ya'. My point though is this. Whether Burnett is facing Maglio or Morneau, I want his head on straight. If he can't accomplish that with Posada, I think you have to go with Molina. There are 8 other spots in the lineup. Now if he shits the bed today.......well who the hell knows.

4 monkeypants   ~  Oct 4, 2009 1:40 pm

[3] I hear what you're saying. But like Ms October (referring to last thread), I don't really believe that Molina has been AJ's tonic. AJ has always been inconsistent; I suspect that his success with Molina has been coincidence.

5 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2009 1:46 pm

[4] Well why mess with coincidence? : D I had two Varsity catchers in high school. One was a short squat kid with no bat and an awful throw to second. Great target and good defense beyond that. The other was a big hulking kid with a big bat and rocket arm. I much preferred pitching to the former for what it's worth. Which is nothing.......But the mind is a funny thing.

6 monkeypants   ~  Oct 4, 2009 1:54 pm

[5] Why mess with coincidence? Because relying on coincidence--confusing coincidence with causation--can blow up in your face. If Burnett really has pitched better *because* of Molina And that was not the case on, say, Sept. 12) then start Molina. But if Burnett is simply pitching better because he's, well, pitching better...then put the best line up out there and maximize the chances of winning.

Twins season comes down to Pavano!!!

8 JeremyM   ~  Oct 4, 2009 1:57 pm

This note on LoHud first cracked me up and then scared me: "Sergio Mitre has biceps tendonitis. He won’t pitch today. Girardi admitted it may be a factor in whether or not he is considered for the postseason roster."

They couldn't have really been considering Mitre for the roster, could they have?

9 monkeypants   ~  Oct 4, 2009 1:59 pm

[7] ...and I thank the Good Lord I am not a Twins fan.

[8] The mind boggles...at just how unlucky Mitre is. Just when he has pitched his way on to the post season roster, an untimely injury might knock him off.

10 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2009 2:03 pm

That was a bomb.

11 JeremyM   ~  Oct 4, 2009 2:08 pm

[9] Poor guy.

Boy, the Rays would've got 5 runs that inning if Posada was catching.

12 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:03 pm

Wow, it really looks like the Central will get a Tuesday playoff game.

Go Twins! Go Tigers!

13 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:06 pm

hola people! can't believe it's the last day of the regular season. where the hell did the last 6 months go?!

End Game, is the name of the new Megadeth album!

Verlander pitching into the 8th. Mags 4-4, Cabrera not playing due to some mysterious cuts and bruises on his punim. huh. Justin finally breaking in the 8th. from 5-0 to 5-3.

Twins up big, early. 7-0. at this point, they might be the scarier team!

14 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:06 pm

[12] Go strange foods!!!

15 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:09 pm

verlander at 116 pitches.

16 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:10 pm

wow, miguel cairo homered for the Philthy's! his BFOG+ leads the world, haha!!!

17 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:11 pm

[15] Whoa, and then the next four are all balls...

18 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:11 pm

verlander out after a 4-pitch walk. 120 pitches. 7.2 innings. tying runs on 1st & 2nd, 2 outs, Rodney comin' in...

19 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:12 pm

Looks like it'll be a four out save for Rodney.

20 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:12 pm

[17] ancient Chinese proverb: man with 4 balls cannot walk!!!

21 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:12 pm

[19] or 4-out implosion

22 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:13 pm

And Verlander is done.
But actually, I really hope the Tigers hang on now.

23 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:13 pm

i would not be surprised for Quen'in to hit a 3-run bomb...

24 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:14 pm

i like curtis granderson.

25 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:15 pm

old friend, tyler clippard pitching here in atlanta just a few miles from me...

26 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:15 pm

Posada coulda done that!!!

27 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:17 pm

[21] Yup, though I would have been more confident in that if Todd Jones were still pitching.

28 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:17 pm

Mean while, the Royals begin to rally against Pavano.

29 monkeypants   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:17 pm

[22] I'm not as worried about the Twins (despite their Momentum™) as the Tigers in a short series, so I'd be perfectly happy of the Tigers lost today. But a playoff would be nice too...and fun!

30 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:20 pm

[29] I'll take either team after the one-game playoff rather than either team without it.

31 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:21 pm

Clutch-Rod!

(even though it's a meaningless game.

32 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:21 pm

Repost:
Po makes $13m and AJ $16m. Don’t these guys both want to win? I mean, they can’t work out their differences for the sake of the team? How about a meeting(s) where Girardi lays doen the law… and if that doesn’t work, you have The Boss sit in?

Do we really have to compromise our offensive lineup because $29m worth of employees can’t get on the same page for the sake of the TEAM???

If I were Girardi, I would rip them both a new asshole and make sure they would rather blow each, rather than not get along as a productive battery.

And it looks like ARod will fall one good game short of both 30 HRs and 100 RBI.

33 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:22 pm

i would really like to win this last game. would be nice!

34 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:23 pm

oh, hell yeah!!! i didn't know that happened when i wrote [33].

coolio!!!

35 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:23 pm

And I assume we ALL believe that after losing 3 in a row, that this is NOT a meaningless game.

36 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:23 pm

most homers in franchise history!

royals rally yielded them 1-run. 7-1 Twins, bot 4, in Minny.

37 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:25 pm

3 outs to go in the Motor City.

38 monkeypants   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:26 pm

[25] Actually, I think this is pretty much a meaningless game.

39 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:27 pm

[35] [38] Me too (raises hand).

40 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:28 pm

“Between playing Friday and Saturday nights against Chicago, Cabrera’s face took the brunt of something.

“I have had a conversation with Miguel,” Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski wrote in an e-mail. “It is a personal situation and I am not at liberty to discuss it further.”

Tigers manager Jim Leyland didn’t want to talk about it and refused to acknowledge the situation was unfortunate.”

Did the old lady try to scratch his eyes out?
He’s missing, literally, the most important game of the year???

Meanwhile, Detroit rallying in the 8th.
KC scores only 1. Now 7-1 Minn.

41 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:29 pm

leadoff man on for pale hose.

42 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:30 pm

Ladies and Gentlemen, Fernando Rodney, Closer.

43 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:30 pm

detroit 2 outs away from winning.

44 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:31 pm

[42] definitely rather face him than Nathan.

45 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:32 pm

DP, game over. i'm guessing Game #163 will be Tuesday.

i'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today!!!

46 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:32 pm

I wonder if Tuesday's game between Minn and Detroit will be nationally televised. That will be a tense game.

47 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:33 pm

And the Tigers win!

Now the Twins must must win.

48 JeremyM   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:33 pm

[46] Yep, on espn.

49 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:33 pm

[45] Ah, poetry and music! Sir, you are an artist.

50 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:34 pm

And you guys make fun of Molina!

51 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:34 pm

Ooopsie!

52 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:37 pm

[49] yes. a starving one! though i am eating a bowl of Cheerios right now! : )

i'll miss most of Tuesday's game, due to teaching. should be able to catch the end...

53 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:38 pm

[49] btw, i do actually write poetry/lyrics/songs/etc...

54 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:38 pm

JD IS BAAAAAAAACK!!!

55 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:39 pm

damn. Nancy has 2 homers on the day.

56 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:39 pm

It's amazing how much can change with a 45 minute walk with the hound. 1-0. to 6-2. Good times. Okay A-Rod, shove it up Maddon's ass.

57 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:40 pm

F.U. Tampa.

Store this one away over the winter, fellas.

58 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:41 pm

AWESOME!!!!!

59 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:41 pm

Ha ha!

60 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:41 pm

61 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:41 pm

YES!
YES!
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
30 HRs!
100 RBI !

I LOVE IT!!!!!

62 JeremyM   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:42 pm

Look at A-Rod hitting the nice round numbers! Holy shit.

63 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:43 pm

oh, intentionally walking Tex, so he couldn't pass Pena?

hopefully Alex gets to 30-100 with one swing!

gamecast is frozen. i have no clue what's going on...

64 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:43 pm

[61] [32] I feel you gave him a little boost.

65 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:43 pm

[63] See [61]

66 Rich   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:43 pm

A-Rod is good at baseball.

67 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:43 pm

[63] he heee heeee heee!

68 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:43 pm

HAHA, he did it!!!!

that's "teh" awesome!!!!

is it 100 ribbies for alex?

wow, a nice 10-spot in the inning.

i loves it!!! : )

69 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:44 pm

[65] nice! thanks!!!

70 The Hawk   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:45 pm

Ha, man that was glorious ... What a dickish thing to do, walking Teixeira there. They sure got what they deserved.

71 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:46 pm

prince just hit his 45th. howard hit his 45th yesterday...

72 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:47 pm

He missed more than a month of the season, and still hit 30 HR, with 100 RBI, 14 SB and 80 BB. Just 124 games played! Slowed down by his hip my ass.

HA!

73 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:47 pm

Delmon Young! 8-1 Twins.

74 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:49 pm

ARod for the seaon: .286 30 100 .402 .532
and his 12th consecutive year of 30/100.

75 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:49 pm

ah, McLouth will end up finishing 1 stolen base shy of 20-20. he hit his 20th homer earlier today.... wait, we might go to extra innings here in the Atl. hopefully Nate gets it!

Ryan Braun, is also 1 SB away, but still has a chance to get there.

76 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:51 pm

I like Dave Robertson.

77 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:52 pm

After ARod's 1st homer, he had (probably) 1 AB left and needed a GRAND SLAM for 30/100.
And he got it!
Really.... what were the odds of that happening?

78 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:52 pm

Jeter finishes at .334.

79 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:56 pm

Melky finishes the year with: .274 .336 .418 .754
So this winter, I guess the great Is-Melky-good-enough-to-man-CF-for-the-Yankees debate will continue.

80 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 3:57 pm

[78] thelarmis...
you KEEP INTERRUPTING my continuous posts.
Have you no respect for your elders?
(I got drumsticks older then you boy!)

81 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:00 pm

So....Minnesota gets to host (if they hold on) Tuesday b/c they went 11-7 vs. Detroit, right? Or is it a flip of the coin?

82 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:01 pm

pavano out. 8-4 minny.

[80] HAHA!!! i'm getting old myself... : /

83 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:02 pm

[81] yup. game is in Mini Soda. Detroit is 2-7 there this season, i believe...

the Baggy Dome won't die!!!

84 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:02 pm

Carlos Pena speaks very well and seems like a really good guy.

85 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:02 pm

[81] You know, I'm not sure.

But the Idle is trying to make things interesting: now 8-4 Twins, after Gordon homers, and someone named Bobby Keppel is trying to get the elusive 3rd out of the 6th.

Cripes, I know its the Royals, and they have a 4 run lead, but who is this guy? And why is Gardenhire trusting his season to him?

86 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:02 pm

[81] Correct. No coin flip. Minny plays host.

87 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:03 pm

i've been seeing this Ian Desmond kid this weekend here against atlanta. Washington has a good lookin' player at shortstop...

ugh. chip caray and buck martinez. i really can't stand caray...

88 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:04 pm

[81] Etc. I think it was indeed a coin flip. Done a week ago.

89 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:04 pm

Joba in to pitch the...seventh?! Hughes = 8th inning guy! ; )

90 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:05 pm

FWIW... Minn. gets to throw their 'Ace' on Tuesday:
Scott Baker : 4.36, 15-9, 160, 1.19
(I really don't know how Minn. is still in this)

91 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:06 pm

Atta boy, Joba. Was that his best inning of the year? : D
Oh, and Dear TBS, please deep six Caray and have Cone work with Darling. Now that's entertainment.

92 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:07 pm

No, my mistake, it wasn't determined by coin flip. That was the old way. It was indeed the head-to-head record that determined the playoff site.

http://tinyurl.com/yco6aqy

93 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:07 pm

Keppel doing his best to prove me right to question Gardenhire - runners on the corners, still two out.

94 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:08 pm

DAMN. I was so hoping for a Molina triple. Just for shits and giggles.

95 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:08 pm

[90] Porcello goes for the Kittens on Tuesday. should be a good game!

96 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:08 pm

So.... the Great Pavano motivates his team to score 8 runs.
The guy is really talented.

97 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:09 pm

KC w/bases loaded, 2 out.

98 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:10 pm

shit sox have scored 12...

99 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:12 pm

Wow.... Twins get out of it. 8-4 after 5.5.

100 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:12 pm

108 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:30 pm

Alex tied w/ Big Mac for 8th all-time, with 583 homers. next season, he should pass Frank Robinson and Sammy Sosa. he should also reach 300 stolen bases and become the 7th member of the 300-300 club (my favorite).

109 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:31 pm

[104] your boy Marquis not doing very well here in the 1st inning...not that it matters today.

so, did Jorgie end up "managing" today?!

110 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:31 pm

[109] My man Julian Edelman had a nice catch for the Patriots today.

111 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:32 pm

[109] They showed him on the bullpen phone today a few times. But Girardi was not hiding at the end of the bench like Torre and Zimmer used to do.

112 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:35 pm

[111] oh cool, thanks. i'm guessing he didn't have a bench coach...

The Ted doesn't wanna close, either - 12th inning here...

113 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:35 pm

[108] Who are the other 6, and what are their numbers?
If ARod stays healthy, there is no doubt he will set many, many records.

114 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:35 pm

Giants 4-0! Woohoo!

115 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:36 pm

116 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:38 pm

117 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:38 pm

Thanks be to Mo.

118 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:40 pm

Minn. leading 9-4 after 7. Is it Farnsproof yet?

119 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:42 pm

[113]

Barry Bonds 762/514
Willie Mays 660/338
Andre Dawson 438/314
Bobby Bonds 332/461
Reggie Sanders 305/304
Steve Finley 304/320

A-Rod 583/297

Rickey Henderson was super close. so was Biggio. i'm hopeful BoBBy Abreu, Mike Cameron, Alfonso Soriano and Carlos Beltran will make it in.

120 bartap   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:42 pm

Kay said ARod's 7 RBIs in one inning was a new major league record, but didn't Mark Whiten hit 2 grand slams in one inning off of Chan Ho Park a couple of years ago. That would be 8, right?

121 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:44 pm

nice win, folks. terrific season. it's been fun. now...it's for real!!!

LET'S GO YAN-KEES !! !!!

122 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:44 pm

[120] yeah, it was AL record, not major league.

123 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:48 pm

Twins up 10-4.

124 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:50 pm

[123] I'm watching it on MLB.com.
Nicky is very angry that he was called out on that last play. (And rightly so, I'd say.)

Also, the camera keeps panning the crowd. Twins fans are unbearable wholesome and cute.

125 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:51 pm

[119] Wow... nobody in the 400/400 club, but Bonds at 500/500.
What a shame he did PEDs. Bonds was so talented, and with his conditioning program, could have done great things without 'help'.... but we will never know just how great.

126 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:53 pm

Now they have Punto in a talking head, and he's talking about... well, he's talking about grit. It's stomach-turning.

127 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:57 pm

[113]

A-Rod being only 3 SB's away, should join 300-300 in April, assuming his hip is okay and doesn't need a 2nd operation this offseaon.

Soriano = 290/257. he should have no problem reaching 300 homers the first half of the season. his legs have given him problems though. i think he'll be double digits in steals, but it's gonna take him another 3 seasons, or so...

boBBy = 256/347. he's gonna need 3 seasons of his, now consistent 15 homers/year, to reach.

Cameron = 265/296. he'll reach 300 stolen bases early in the season. he consistently hits 20+ homers/year, so i think he'll be in in 2 years...

Jeter needs 76 homers. 5 years of 15 per season. i'm not sure he does it. who knows, we'll see...

Damon needs 93 homers. i highly doubt he makes it. he'd need a lot more years in pinstripes!

128 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 4:59 pm

[125] yeah, i know! i think Bonds was 400-400 before he did anything stoopid. he was amazing.

[122] I thought Tony Lazzeri had the AL record with 11...

Maybe Kay was talking the record for rbi's by people named Alex Rodriguez... ;-)

130 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 5:00 pm

And that does it! Playoff game on Tuesday!

I guess I'll root for the Twins.

131 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2009 5:02 pm

[129] Ha, no, we're talking about the single inning record.

132 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 5:04 pm

McLouth had another chance at 20-20 here in the 13th, but drove the ball deep and made an out. stuck on 19 stolen bases...

I *knew* I should have put some $$$ on the Saints today ... 17-0, 9 minutes left in 2nd.

134 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 4, 2009 5:07 pm

Fewest games in season needed for minimum 30 hr, 100 rbi, 14 sb

but.... Ryan Braun stole his 20th bag. AND Jayson Werth stole *two* bases to reach 20! who says these guys don't play for personal stats?! WAHOO!!!

alright, we had 14 20/20 guys this season:

Ian Kinsler (30/30)
Mark Reynolds
Curtis Granderson
Matt Kemp
Hanley Ramirez
Brandon Phillips
Chase Utley
Nelson Cruz
Jimmy Rollins
Justin Upton
Troy Tulowitzki
Jayson Werth
Ryan Braun
Shin-Soo Choo

Torii Hunter needs 2 stolen bases and is still playing. i doubt he'll do it though...

last season, there were only 9 20/20 guys. 2 were 30/30. Hanley, Phillips & Werth are the only repeat customers from last year.

136 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 5:14 pm

A-Rod has 18 career grand slams.

137 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 5:16 pm

robbie finishes with a nice .320 avg.

[131] Gotcha. I had to watch the Rays feed on EI, so I missed out on the Kay comment.

Back in college I knew this girl who was a descendant of Sunny Jim Bottomley. She liked to tell how Jim's claim to fame was that he had the major league record for rbi's in a game with 12. It was a nice bit of obscure trivia to know...then Mark Whitten came along and tied the record (taking away my obscure trivia question in the process).

[127] damn, i forgot to include Beltran. with a good, productive, healthy season next year, he can reach 300-300, along with Alex.

Beltran = 273/286. he can certainly hit 27 homers and steal 14 bags, but i'm guessing it'll take him 2 seasons. he should end up in though...

Detroit's Run Diff after 162 games is... -1.

Yanks = +162

Yankees LHP Andy Pettitte wound up earning $10.5 million of the $12 million available under his contract — $500,000 more than the Yankees' original offer of $10 million guaranteed that he failed to accept. Pettitte had a $5.5 million base salary, earned $3 million based on innings and $2 million for staying on the active roster the entire season. He missed $750,000 bonuses for 200 and 210 innings, finishing with 194 2-3.

Wow, 15th inning for Nats-Braves.

[136] You know the funny thing about A-rod's grand slam today was that it sorta won a bet for me against my wife. She was a big fan of A-rod until all that stuff came out about him cheating on his wife with Madonna. She stopped wearing her A-rod shirt that she bought in NY last year. So, early this year I asked her if she would ever wear that shirt again and her response was that if he hit a grand slam she would (he might have been up with the bases loaded at the time and thus the request). When they showed his number of career grand slams I told her that she would be wearing that shirt again soon. Ever time after that when he would come up with the bases loaded I would bring up the bet. Remember the one against the Twins where he got robbed? I couldn't believe it. I had given up on it (I think he had something like 20 ab's with the bases loaded this year with no homers). I can't believe he did it on his last ab of the regular season.

[143] yeah, i'm watching! 2-1 Nats. Cox sent Javy Vazquez to lead off the inning. feh!

i hope McLouth gets on and steals, so he can reach 20-20!!! here he comes...

146 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2009 5:44 pm

Hoffmann blows the save for the Brew Crew. i dunno, i just don't see that guy as a Hall of Famer, but it seems like he'll end up in the Coop...

147 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2009 5:55 pm

[145] So did he go around? Kind of weird way to end a season, especially a 15 inning game.

148 JeremyM   ~  Oct 4, 2009 8:15 pm

[146] I'm with you. He has very few saves over 1 inning as well and it's pretty well known that he has made it clear that he will not come in during the 8th inning. It's a shame he has the record, because I don't even rate him as a top 10 all-time closer.
