Don’t Be Stupid, Be a Smarty…

The latest from Klap:

“I think Brian [Cashman] has learned a lot about running a team,” said one rival executive. “He’s made some mistakes, but if you go around and ask people what they think of the Yankees, the answer you’ll get is that they’re intelligently run.”

Money+smarts=Heppy Kets.

Steinbrenner's drive to win - Steinbrenner + money + intelligence = Dynasty in the making. That's how they did it in the 90's baby.

Uh Rob .... the link in your name points to your blog. No need to put it in the text of your comment, especially if it doesn't point to a post on the same subject matter as the original thread, or the text either.

The Yanks have always had great baseball minds since I've been a fan (ca. 1980). It was only Stein's misguided idea that you win by accumulating veteran sluggers that caused the long drought from there, and again in the 00s.

Cashman definitely has made some mistakes, but at least he has given pitching it's proper priority. And 09 speaks for itself: He finally got it right.

Please bring me up to date on the reference to the anti-ARod part of the story. What did Moose, Torre, and Roido do to foment tension? Not a fan of any of the above. You could look it up.

[3] Not quite sure how he got it right, even though the team won. Lots of problems with Joba caught between the pen and the mound. I think the trade for a fourth starter and a committment to Gardner will be a winner

It has been well over a year since he's signed Sidney Ponson.

[4] Mussina always struck me as someone who doesn't have the patience for nonsense, which A-Rod did bring in spades while they were both on the team. It seemed like every time things were going smoothly, Alex said or did something stupid to bring the circus back to town.

One of the reasons 2009 was much fun was we didn't have to deal with that after he came back.

[4] I put the Joba mess on Girardi and Eiland. I don't think how you use your players is the province of the GM.
