Herriman inspired many of his contemporaries (Elzie Segar), his successors (Charles Schulz and Walt Kelly) and spiritual descendants (Bill Watterson) just to name one or two of the top cartoonists of their respective generations; it may be fair to say he was the Louis Armstrong of comic strips.

[1] True, and yet, like Louis, Herriman is singular. There's just nothing quite like him.

have two works of a VT artist named Hal Mayfoth: snake cafe and something else. he credits Herriman, too. we also have some bedards. they go very well together.
