Gaudin is a solid pitcher, but his loss wouldn't have much of an impact...except that it probably moves Sergio Mitre closer to pitching meaningful innings.
From Lohud:
"Phil Hughes allowed three home runs including a walk-off on Monday, but he and Joe Girardi each felt it was his best outing of the spring"
Kinda makes ya wonder what a bad outing looks like.
Gaudin has his uses, so I kind of hope his salary scares away the other teams and the Yanks can stash him in AAA. I'd rather have Gaudin around than Dustin Moseley.
[7] I'm sure his larger salary (almost 4x Mitre's) fed into the decision to place Gaudin on waivers. Of course, if he clears waivers, the Yankees have the option of releasing him and only playing him a portion of the total contract. If they are in a cost cutting mode, that could wind up being their grand plan.
I wouldn't mind stocking a 6th or 7th starter at AAA for when Pettitte has an elbow issue & A.J. gets back spasms at the same time. Might be cheaper in the long run to just pay the $2.9 million rather than having to make a trade where you're at a disadvantage.
Still, Chad did not look good in his last game. 2 quick outs and then 7 of the next 8 reach base (IIRC)?
Somebody will pick up the Hanging Chad, then he'll inevitably and inexplicably throw a no-hitter against the Yanks in a nationally televised game. It's what guys like him do.

As he is a flyball pitcher, I could see the Metsies making a run at him. (but they won't)
No problem with this at all.

[4] Apparently whatever Gaudin did.
Mike Francesa demands to know who will start in his place come World Series time

Remember that Tomko game last year?
[11] I had to look up that Tomko game (5 shutout innings in 3-0 Yankee loss), but yeah, that's what I see Gaudin doing to us one of these days.
