Way to work a walk Cervelli.

2 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:01 pm

Okay, here I am, in the new thread.

3 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:02 pm

Aie, DJ! Dag.

4 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:02 pm

GODDAMMIT JETER.

FUCK.

How about you do something OTHER than hit the ball to the shortstop.

FEH.

5 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:02 pm

Dammit.

6 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:03 pm

[3] messed up the thread mojo, Alex!

=)

7 rbj   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:03 pm

Nerts! Off to walk the dogs, should be back in 1/2 hour.

8 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:04 pm

[2] ah, i see how ya are - splitting right after i call you out trying to sound smart about music! yeah, you totally lost me on your last comment there. : )

btw, did you play an instrument in school band growing up?

9 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:05 pm

Well done CC

10 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:05 pm

[6] i was thinkin' that!

11 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:06 pm

timmay's laugh is just brutal.

cool pacha bell!

12 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:06 pm

Whoops...I got caught betwixt threads. My last post down there:

I’m surprised that was not interference on Cervelli, though I don’t know the rules for that scenario.

Drat, Jeter!

13 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:07 pm

I have a feeling that Teix is gonna show up next inning driving the score truck.

14 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:07 pm

nice 'n easy inning. me likey.

15 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:07 pm

Nice start so far CC ... just do a better job keeping it up than Javy did last night, ok?

16 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:10 pm

Yankees have really let Davis off the hook…they need to break through here.

17 seamus   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:10 pm

[12] what are the rules on that? tim and joe were on about it.

18 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:10 pm

[8] No, just piano (and never got very good). And then I sang in college.

19 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:11 pm

[12] The ump has to determine that the catcher was impeded before the throw...it looks like Shoppach was only impacted after the release.

20 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:12 pm

By the way, I thought Gardner should have tried to "accidentally" get hit by that ball by Jeter.

21 seamus   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:12 pm

[18] does drunken karaoke count though?

22 seamus   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:12 pm

[19] thanks. yeah, though you could argue he sort of interfered before the throw. theoretically.

23 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:14 pm

Well, Teix didn't make an out, at least.

24 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:14 pm

[22] You could...it's a subjective call by the umpire.

25 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:14 pm

[21] Hey, who says I was drunk?

26 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:15 pm

RIPPER!!!

27 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:15 pm

ROBBIE!!!

28 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:16 pm

Wow...that's bat speed...Davis has been getting by with a little luck, so about time they broke through.

29 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:16 pm

Doncha Know!

30 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:16 pm

Yay! I was close [13], Teix ended up *riding* the score truck.

31 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:16 pm

Here's to warm Aprils!

32 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:16 pm

ROBBIE at the wheel!

33 seamus   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:17 pm

[25] it is known.

34 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:18 pm

[30] That's right! You thought he was asking for the keys, but he was just shouting "Shotgun" to Rob.

35 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:18 pm

[33] i plan on being drunk later! but first, i need to get my butt to the studio and put in a coupla hours of practice. must turn off game soon...

OBP!

36 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:19 pm

Another 3-2 count for Swish ... another walk.

C'mon Curtis!

37 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:19 pm

[34] you tickling the keys again? writing a song called "Shotgun"? i actually used to work in a band that sometimes played "White Wedding" as a bossa nova. that was fun! : )

38 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:20 pm

C'mon Grandy...

39 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:20 pm

davis's breaking stuff is rather excellent today. at least, location wise. they seem hittable...

40 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:20 pm

[33] Dude, don't believe those lies. I always sound like that.

Actually, I have never done karaoke. Seriously! I don't dig raw fish at all. (That was my best thelarmis imitation.)

41 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:22 pm

[40] pretty good and VERY accurate! : )

42 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:25 pm

CC with some leather.

43 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:28 pm

CC and Cano are both convinced it isn't April.

44 seamus   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:29 pm

[40] hehe. CC has looked good except for after when he tired in boston. I just wonder what a good early start would mean for a guy who doesn't start well.

45 seamus   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:31 pm

gritty!

46 seamus   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:31 pm

why not just have gardner steal?

47 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:31 pm

I really hate the bunt when Gardner is more than capable of taking 2B.

48 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:32 pm

Bunting with Cerveli: probably good. Bunting without trying first to run Gardner: maybe not so good. Steal third now!!!!

49 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:32 pm

Hm, their 3B is pretty good too.

50 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:32 pm

Or that'll do.

51 seamus   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:32 pm

that' smore like it Jetes!

52 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:33 pm

Trust in Gritner, guys, come on. Gritner gets the job done.

53 Just Fair   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:36 pm

The restaurant I just left had about 10 tvs showing both the Masters and Texas Hold 'Em. Plus a couple of Mets games and a UNC football game for Mo's sake. Had to get some dude to commandeer a remote for me. Cano's homer was flat out smoked. : )

54 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:36 pm

Our long national nightmare is over.

55 seamus   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:36 pm

TEX!!!

56 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:37 pm

Ahhhhhhh.

57 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:37 pm

Jeter may be slowing down a little, but he still manages to get there.

58 seamus   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:37 pm

[53] i'll never get watching poker on tv

59 Just Fair   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:37 pm

Jeter is the anti-Posada.

60 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:37 pm

TEX! Man Jeter was in trouble. But it all worked out!

61 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:38 pm

Just Fair, your arrival inspired Teix to smack on down the line. So it's just as well you decided to leave that bar.

62 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:39 pm

[60] Oh dear grasshopper, Jeter is never in trouble.

63 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:39 pm

And monkeypants, you were obviously seeing a little further into the future than you thought.

64 rbj   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:39 pm

I'm back -- just in time to miss all the scoring.

65 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:40 pm

[58] I mostly agree, but think the guys on ESPN (esp. Norm Chad) somehow manage to make it interesting. On too many occassions, I've found myself inexplicably watching hours of the WSOP.

66 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:41 pm

[64] Of course, because (as I've remarked before), rbj comes after rbi.

67 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:41 pm

[62] Jeter used the Jedi mind trick on Shoppach. My son is cracking me up. He keeps imitating Jeter's slide home here on the floor.

68 Just Fair   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:42 pm

[61] Cheers to that. If I wasn't home for his first hit of the year I would have felt bad. Mabye if I go back, though, Alex will homer.

69 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:43 pm

[63] Sometimes prescience is difficult manage.

70 Just Fair   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:44 pm

[65] I often spend most of my time wondering why the hell so many wear shades. So lame.

71 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:44 pm

damn, i missed Tex's hit and Jetes' running.

[66] nice!

[67] too cute!

i don't poker. playing it and especially watching it.

shit, there goes the perfecto.

72 rbj   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:44 pm

[66] Heh.

73 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:44 pm

The dreaded leadoff walk.

74 seamus   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:44 pm

[69] well said young jedi

75 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:45 pm

Yankee pitchers haven't spent too much time holding runners this season.

76 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:46 pm

innings aren't the only thing CC will eat lots of...

catcher's interference! as in the catchers' hand and glove got in the way of him transferring the ball...

77 Just Fair   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:48 pm

[76] Can you imagine standing along side CC and Shaq? Holy smokes are they big dudes.

78 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:48 pm

Those foghorn things are delightful. Now if only they had some cow bells to go with them.

79 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:48 pm

pat the bat looks a bit like mussina.

i miss Mikey Moose.

80 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:49 pm

[78] i have 4 cowbells on my main drumkit. well, actually - 2 cowbells, 2 jamblocks, plus a "homemade" icebell. : )

81 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:51 pm

CC!!!

gotta love those awesome Chick-Fil-A ads - eet mor chikin or we'll charge the mound!

82 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:51 pm

attaboy, CC. lookin good, big guy

83 Just Fair   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:51 pm

Frankie Brains with the fist pump. Atta boy, Large Man.

84 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:52 pm

[80] Man, --2 cowbells. That's mind-boggling even for people (like us) who love numbers.

85 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:56 pm

i would've enjoyed catcher's interference there - as in shoppach interfering with longoria.

86 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:56 pm

Brains talking to CC on the bench is so damn cute.

87 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:57 pm

[84] ooh, don't make fun of my drumkit! it's the "mothership"! : )

my solo cd opens with a fun track that includes all 5 of the aforementioned "bells".

88 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:57 pm

nice Curtis. please steal 2nd!

89 Just Fair   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:57 pm

Timmy, your intelligence is pure conjecture.

90 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:58 pm

Yeah, I bet Tim McC has extensively researched whether pitch count has any long term affect on a pitcher's arm.

Hm, I wonder whether the whole pitch count, innings count thing has any good evidence behind it. I know, let's ask Tim McCarver!

91 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:58 pm

wahoo! go go grandy!

92 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:58 pm

hmmmm. I guess in these hard economic times the Rays were able to keep the ol mascot around, huh? stoopid red sox... http://tinyurl.com/yhffpo6

93 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 4:59 pm

Effect.
Sorry, words.

94 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:01 pm

I'm surprised Davis is still in.

95 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:01 pm

What sins did we commit such that forever and always, no matter the score or game situation, the announcers must talk about Joba-rules-eighth-inning-blah-blah?

96 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:01 pm

[93] words aren't offended and don't need apologies. now, if it were numbers...well, that's a whole 'nutha story!

97 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:02 pm

fuuuuuuuuuuck

98 Just Fair   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:02 pm

Slide feet first dummy. FUCK.

99 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:02 pm

[94] me too.

damnit. why the fuck didn't he slide?!?!

100 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:02 pm

Yay Griner...yikes, Grandy. Oh well, good send with two outs.

Show/Hide Comments 101-200
101 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:02 pm

Fuck.

102 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:03 pm

Terrible play by Grandy to not slide. Jeez!

103 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:03 pm

Yet another case of a catcher illegally blocking the plate (in this case tripping Granderson)....why does MLB tolerate this? Baseball isn't a full contact sport.

104 rbj   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:03 pm

Damn!

105 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:04 pm

[103] Yep, that's just what I said to my son.

But the rule and traditions around plays at the plate are so murky, you can't blame an umpire.

106 Just Fair   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:04 pm

A 2 out ribeye from Lil' G will just have to wait. I'll pretend Curtis would have broken his leg if he had gone it feet first I guess.

107 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:04 pm

Grandy was not so dandy? The Grandy Man can't? A gaf for the Gander?
.
.
.
Sorry about that.

108 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:05 pm

jeter wasn't there telling him to slide?

109 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:05 pm

[103] I agree entirely. Of course, that stupid (and dangerous) play is now "part of the game". Indeed, Buck and McCarver are positively glowing over that "great play".

110 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:05 pm

Two more innings, CC.

111 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:06 pm

[102] He may have slid if he wasn't tripped.

112 seamus   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:06 pm

[103] i disliked how he did that. made it look like he wouldn't block and then did. That's just dangerous.

113 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:06 pm

no, you guys were grinning ear to ear 'coz the yanks didn't score. fucking assholes.

114 seamus   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:06 pm

[107] the restaurant in the building i work in is the Gandy Dancer. Time to rename it...

115 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:06 pm

that beurhle play will never get old. wow!

116 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:06 pm

On a happier note, if Gritner can keep this up---slapping some opposite field singles, getting a few lucky rollers for hits, walking once and a while---he may make himself valuable.

117 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:07 pm

[105] The rules are pretty clear, but the traditions completely obscure them.

118 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:07 pm

[113] you're right dude. bias fucks.

119 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:08 pm

[110] ???

120 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:08 pm

[114] well, his name does anagram to "Dancers Groin Rust".

if that doesn't work, how bout the "Slide Next Time Cafe"?!

121 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:09 pm

where in the fuck was that gorgeous curve, blue???

122 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:09 pm

[116] The Grit is starting to slowly move my opinion of him...and I've been one of his biggest critics.

123 Just Fair   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:09 pm

Punch him out. Are you fucking kidding me?

124 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:10 pm

[121] Gameday has it near the middle of the strike zone.

125 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:10 pm

don't lose him.

fuck you, blue

126 seamus   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:10 pm

[120] haha

127 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:10 pm

YEAH!!!!!

TEX!!!!!!!!

128 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:10 pm

TEX you rule. man. goddamn that was a great stab!

129 Just Fair   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:10 pm

Hot damn. Sweet grab, Teix.

130 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:11 pm

[124] Someone tell Joe West.

Tex picks up Wally Bell...he owes him an AB with no strikes called.

131 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:11 pm

my reaction was a bit more animated than Joe & K-Long's

132 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:11 pm

Wow. Fuck.

133 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:11 pm

If he gets three more outs in a row, then I'll start thinking bout things...

134 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:13 pm

So, I'm reading J. C. Bradbury's book, and there's a chapter on the effect managers have on umpires' balls & strikes calls. The method is basically this: look at the difference between the calls for the manager's pitcher in Questec parks and non-Questec parks, and see if there are any managers with a big difference. Turns out there are several managers who seem to have a marked effect on umpires.

135 RagingTartabull   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:13 pm

hmmm....

136 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:14 pm

Nice play by Kapler.

137 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:16 pm

take that email to heart, bitches. stfu!

138 Evil Empire   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:17 pm

How's CC look today?

139 seamus   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:18 pm

[138] i'd rather not say

140 Just Fair   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:18 pm

[134] Aren't there only a handful of parks that don't have Questec? Or is the other way around?

141 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:18 pm

Now Tim and Joe are talking about the way Matsui...walked?!

142 rbj   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:18 pm

[138] Check the boxscore, and don't say anything.

143 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:19 pm

[140] According to wikipedia, only about a third of them:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QuesTec#QuesTec_Stadiums

144 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:20 pm

[134] What is the sample? If one manager has a very good staff, you'd have to presume his pitchers are better at taking advantage of a wider zone. I can't believe a homeplate umpire is thinking about the manager while he is calling balls and strikes.

145 Evil Empire   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:20 pm

[142] Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooow...........That's a pretty picture of a bridge in Tampa!!!

146 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:21 pm

[140] Not sure, but for the period of the study it was used in ten parks.

147 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:21 pm

where the fuck was that, blue????

aaaaaarrrrgggghhh!!!!!

148 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:22 pm

[141] and fred couples, of course! : /

149 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:23 pm

christ almighty. now watch the floodgates open, starting w/ a stolen base.

he was struck out, goddammit!!!

150 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:23 pm

[144] Of course, but why would this change between Questec parks and non-Questec?

Even if they aren't thinking about it, some managers could affect umpires subconsciously.

151 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:23 pm

Ignore Crawford.

152 Evil Empire   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:23 pm

Robby Cano Don'tchaknow!

153 rbj   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:24 pm

Missed a double play there.

154 Just Fair   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:24 pm

That's JV baseball boys.

155 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:24 pm

Great play by Cano...FC, E-1, I presume.

156 seamus   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:24 pm

oh geez that was too exciting.

157 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:24 pm

YEAH!!!

not textbook, but i'll take it. wipes that speed off the bases and the go ahead runner in scoring position.

158 RagingTartabull   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:24 pm

I only swallowed my tongue a little bit just then

159 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:24 pm

Ha ha ha! Sucker.

160 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:24 pm

Good...ohhh a gamble...he's got him...NOOOOO...Yayyyy!

My emotions over the course of about three seconds during that last play.

[153] Dont think they had a chance for two.

162 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:24 pm

[155] no E-1 yet... reminds me of that game of his w/ the Brew Crew...

163 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:25 pm

I just went through a quick roller coaster of emotions. I'm like, "get em! FUCK! WHAAA... YEAH!" then wondering about the scoring of it all.

gotta rinse the puke outta my mouth now.

164 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:25 pm

[155] They should score it that way, but I bet they don't give an error since there was an out recorded at the same base.

165 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:25 pm

nelson cruz has 4 homers for the rangers already. vernon wells has 4, too...

166 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:26 pm

I don't think it can be an E if it doesn't cost an out, can it? Or cost the team anything?

167 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:26 pm

jesus christ, ump. joe west is gonna fine you. call more strikes!!!

168 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:27 pm

YEAH!!!!

carsten charles in charge!

169 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:27 pm

[166] It could because Crawford was technically safe on the error, but then out on the overslide.

170 rbj   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:27 pm

Yes!

171 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:28 pm

[169] Ah, good point.

172 Just Fair   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:28 pm

Hot Dog. The whole slanted angle from centerfield is really messing with my mojo. ps. Catcher's controversy! : )

173 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:29 pm

CC is going to need a ton of pitches for a complete game.

174 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:30 pm

what in the fuck is wrong with this ump??????

175 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:30 pm

Wally Bell is killing CC.

184 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:31 pm

Arod is the bomb. Was that the 4th 130-footer today? 5th?

185 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:31 pm

HOLY FUGGIN SHIT!

THAT WAS AMAZING.

186 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:31 pm

ohboyohboyohboyohboy

but man, 102 pitches already ... what's a Girardi to do???

187 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:31 pm

cool pacha bell in lieu of wally bell.

188 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:32 pm

[178] looks like you and me both are postponing practice to post-supper, huh?

189 RagingTartabull   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:32 pm

in other news I just picked up a $50 bleacher seat for opening day, not a bad deal if I do say so

190 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:34 pm

It's officially "Canon Day", thelarmis. Amazing.

And Teix is back!

191 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:35 pm

It's a bit early in the season to let CC go 120 or more pitches. My guess is that Girardi is secretly hoping CC gives up a hit to the 1st batter of the 8th.

192 Just Fair   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:35 pm

Nice strike to Alex. These guys are piece of work. Yay, Teix. Drop the hammer, Robbie.

193 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:35 pm

one thing to remember, CC is on an extra day of rest today ... might just give him a chance to complete "it" ...

194 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:37 pm

Oh, they'll let him complete it, if it's it. So to speak. But I agree with OYF, Girardi must have some mixed feelings about it.

195 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:39 pm

shuddup mccracken!

c'mon Cap'n - don't groundout on the 1st pitch, thank you please.

206 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:42 pm

I wonder if Girardi will bring in Winn for Swisher in RF next inning ...

207 RagingTartabull   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:42 pm

I'd honestly be fine with a DP here, there I said it

208 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:42 pm

Grandy has had some bad ABs against lefties, but some good ones as well.

209 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:42 pm

oh that's right, it's Gardner. my bad.

suicide squeeze! (kidding. kind of.)

210 rbj   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:42 pm

Let's see a Gardner Slam here.

211 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:43 pm

goddamn, AB, those steaks look good as hell. My wife is starting spaghetti sauce and the onion/garlic smell is taking over. Ahhhhhhh

C'mon, Jetes.

212 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:43 pm

[206] I would have pinch hit Posada for Brett, then let Jorge play the position.
I mean, what the hell. Baseball is supposed to be fun.

213 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:44 pm

[206] good thinkin'...

[188] yeah man. i can't leave this. i actually get to see it live. sucks though - totally throwing my day off. i slept too late after a very late gig last night. i'm gonna have to forego running errands and only practice. i have to work on both instruments today and have a lot of work to put in. i'm already hungry. sucks, but worth it...

214 Just Fair   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:44 pm

I call k looking.

215 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:44 pm

216 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:45 pm

I hope this long inning doesn't foul up CC's rhythm.

217 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:45 pm

alex got lucky. he was jumping and ducking at the same time!

218 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:45 pm

i'll take another run

219 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:45 pm

I love how A-Rod jumped on that play. Totally wrong instinct.

220 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:45 pm

[206] He has done it in every clos egame so far.

221 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:45 pm

hehe.. Gardner was past the IF dirt by the time the camera panned. Love it.

Okay... NOW it's Captain time.

222 rbj   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:46 pm

I'll settle for that.

223 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:46 pm

[221] ugh. I haven't learned the lineup today.

224 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:47 pm

It's time to end the Thames platoon and give Gardy a shot at fulltime LF.

225 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:47 pm

[220] he probably shoulda sent in winn to pinch run then. get him stretched out and put more spedd on the bases.

frankie brains!!!

226 seamus   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:47 pm

frankie!!!

227 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:47 pm

[221] I know, I loved that too. In the replay from the 3B camera, showing the ball hit the mitt, you can't even see Gardner in the picture!

228 Just Fair   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:47 pm

Put CC's arm on ice and call it a day.

229 rbj   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:47 pm

230 monkeypants   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:47 pm

That play defined 'bad route'.

238 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:49 pm

[221] yeah, that was pretty amazing.

oh, and i hate bullpens that are on the field. i think it's both dangerous & distracting. totally pointless. just keep 'em behind the outfield...

239 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:51 pm

well, that was an easy call.

c'mon CC! you got this...

240 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 10, 2010 5:51 pm

[274] I dunno, we're not very tactful.

277 Chyll Will   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:00 pm

Char sui buns should be Schedule I Controlled Substances. Picked up a few fresh ones from Koko's Bakery here in Cleveland. Not momofuku ssam's, but great nonetheless.

Also, neither my team nor I appreciate this crap, Yovani Gallardo.

Hey... Anyone wanna unload some tickets to the Friday night Yanks game on 4/16? It's my son's 6th birthday, and I want to take him.

326 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:26 pm

[323] Uh oh. I had a dream about this once. I'll show up at the quiz in my pajamas.

327 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:28 pm

[325] if you can't score tix to the game, i've got 2 gigs that night. i'll let him sit in! ; )

[326] uh, i think think i have another audition that day. sorry. but i'll recommend a really good sub for the gig. promise!

328 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:28 pm

[325] my niece turns 6 two weeks later.

329 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:28 pm

Buck and Tim oinking away about how awesome the new kid is, and D-Rob puts him away on three pitches. Nice.

(Of course, Brignac may well be awesome.)

330 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:29 pm

nice d-rob!

331 Eirias   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:29 pm

David Robertson needs to find a way to incorporate "K" into his name.

332 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:30 pm

[328] so does mine! JJ and his cousin are 12 days apart. She's on 4/28.

333 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:30 pm

[328] My oldest son's birthday is on the 15th. Yeah, he's my little tax deduction. Only not little.

D-Rob showing the stuff.

334 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:31 pm

almost got him. kinda.

i hope to keep the shutout in tact.

[331] i got nothin'. but i did try!

335 Just Fair   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:33 pm

Helluvaballgame.

336 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:33 pm

Nice victory, Yanks! Way to rock it CC.

See y'all tamara.

337 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:33 pm

[332] nice! my niece is on May 1st. or, "fuwst", as she would say!

[333] big boy? my oldest nephew is large little man.

GAME OVER!!!

nice win

338 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:33 pm

Appropriate last out.

339 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:34 pm

Oops, when I wrote [338] I thought it was A-Rod at third.

340 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:34 pm

alright all, time to go whack some cowbells! (finally...)

341 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:35 pm

[339] woulda been appropriate if carlos pena had been the one to ground out!

342 rbj   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:36 pm

Nice pitching by CC today.

343 williamnyy23   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:38 pm

[342] Not bad for the big man.

Who said he needed to lose some weight?

344 The Hawk   ~  Apr 10, 2010 6:43 pm

[343] More specifically, who said he needs to lose weight in order to pitch well?

345 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 7:26 pm

Fun Sox game, Beckett vs. Greinke. Josh doesn't look sharp so far (one down, one on bottom of 1st).

346 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Apr 10, 2010 7:32 pm

Woke up and just browsed the game thread..a near no-no sounds exciting..Timmah & JoeBuck sound nauseating...

[345] Of course local tv here NOT showing that great matchup, instead got Angels-As on in one hour...sigh...

347 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 7:35 pm

[346] Ohhhh. Too bad. But you do get to see 松井.

I'm thinking of buying the mlb.com video package. Did that last year; this year I have FiOS and could buy their mlb package instead. I have to decide pretty soon, obviously, or I'm going to miss games. Have you tried out the mlb.com package?

348 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Apr 10, 2010 7:39 pm

[347] Actually looking forward to all the Matsui-Ichiro matchups this year, J press here will be all over it.

Had mlb.com Gameday last season, holding off this year...so far...but with so few Yanks games on tv this season here I may be forced to get it again..

Zach Greinke really must regret signing that deal with KC..what an awful, awful team. Their lineup puts me in hysterics..Jason Kendall batting 7th?!?!?

349 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 7:45 pm

[348] But Ankiel is the real deal.

You have to remember that Greinke suffers from social anxiety disorder, so he's actually very pleased to have the long term deal with the Royals. He has a comfort zone, and he's making a pile of money.
I'm guessing he's a little unhappy about that bullpen, though. Yeesh.

350 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 10, 2010 7:47 pm

Just watching the game now, thanks to saturday blackouts ... DAMN that was a nice play by Alex to get CC out of the 7th.

Bravo, sir, bravo!

351 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Apr 10, 2010 7:53 pm

[349] Was that Ankiel comment some dry New England sarcasm that I am not picking up from across the ocean?

True, the Roylas stuck by Greinke when he was unable to pitch, that must count for a lot to him..but still, what an awful organization..sad that Trey Hillman bombed out there too, he did such a good job here taking the Nippon Ham Fighters to two straight Japan Series, winning one title.

352 rbj   ~  Apr 10, 2010 7:54 pm

Via Lohud:
"“Shoppach was his last hitter no matter what,” manager Joe Girardi said. “He did not know that going out, but he knows now. I told him when he came out because, big picture. It’s not something you want to do, but you have to think big picture. I told Dave (Eiland), 110 to 115, that was it.”"

So now I'm glad Shoppach got the hit, would have been frustrating to pull CC after 8 no hit innings. Right thing to do, but painful to see it happen.

353 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 7:57 pm

[352] Wow! I never would have guessed that.
[351] No, really. (Okay, it's partly the rhyme that I liked.)
Ankiel smacked Wakefield and the bullpen around yesterday, and he's graceful in the OF. I like him. Now, I believe he does wish he were back with the Cardinals, but at least he's in the same state...

354 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 8:00 pm

Ricky just tracked down a V-Mart drive at the 410 mark. Beautiful.

355 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Apr 10, 2010 8:00 pm

[352] That's crazy..the "big picture2 includes history..no way in HELL would CC come out of that game and also no way in hell anyone could physically move him off the mound!

[353] Yeah, he can smack the ball for sure but if he's your main power threat..btw, that BoSox offense really doesn't look great..I wonder if the Rays will easily be 5 games ahead of them by season's end..

356 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Apr 10, 2010 8:02 pm

[354] Good timing, he robbed the Professional Hitter! Oh, and Josh Beckett sucks (just had to say that)

357 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 8:09 pm

Ankiel drills another one, this time Drew flails as it sails by.

358 rbj   ~  Apr 10, 2010 8:10 pm

Generous scorer, as it was in Drew's glove.

359 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Apr 10, 2010 8:12 pm

Better odds: thelarmis eats a turkey burger, Mr. OK Jazz buys a Reba Mcentyre record, Kendall goes deep off Beckett?

360 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 8:14 pm

Hmmmm.
Kendall.
Whoa, Hermida.

361 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 8:15 pm

And Tek.
Definitely a problem with Greinke's delivery...

362 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Apr 10, 2010 8:16 pm

No effing way Varitek homered off Zach the Great!! That is just NOT right..

363 RIYank   ~  Apr 10, 2010 8:20 pm

[362] Hanging curves, to both. Very, very hittable. (Obviously!)

364 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Apr 10, 2010 8:41 pm

Podsednik to the fence? What's going on in KC tonight, rip in the space-time continum? Where's Doc Brown??

365 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Apr 10, 2010 8:47 pm

great job getting that runner in KC! ok, I'm out of here, let's hope the Royals can get to the Boston pen again..

366 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Apr 10, 2010 10:10 pm

Angels-A's...Ben Sheets, glad we did not take a risk on him, his pitches look very flat and the Angels are getting a lot of solid contact..Matsui looks great so far this season!

Oh, and Mike Scioscia is so irritating..announcers fellating him about "Angel baseball" when there was a "productive out"...

367 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Apr 10, 2010 11:46 pm

Game-winning hit for Matsui! Announcers go wild, let out their 4th "Professional Hitter" tonight! Lots of smiles and jumping from his teammates, he's off to a great start. I hate the Angels but will always be a Matsui-fan so happy for him.

368 thelarmis   ~  Apr 10, 2010 11:49 pm

[359] hey, i love turkey burgers!!! it's red meat i don't eat. and while i don't care for reba, i do play in a pop-country band and i must admit, i enjoy it! : )

369 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Apr 10, 2010 11:59 pm

[368] Hahah, would not have guessed either of those! Reba..I suppose I'm dating myself, couldn't name any more recent pop-country acts (and frankly, do not want to..)

Great ending to that Angels-As game, though the repeated shots of Sciosia giving signals to the fielders was annoying..home broadcast for them so of course they love the guy but he's so over-rated it's ridiculous.

370 thelarmis   ~  Apr 11, 2010 12:20 am

[369] well, i eat lotsa organic stuff. just had a coupla organic burritos. turkey & veggie burgers are yummy! real burgers are ICK! haven't had red meat in over 18 years.

well, it's not like i own any pop-country or prefer it, but it is fun to play and the studio musicians are really good. the song writing is excellent and the chick singers are generally smokin' HOT!

i'm the same age as you. i wouldn't know any of these 'artists' either, but i have to for work. i've played in a coupla pop-country bands and both were fronted by females. plus, i used to date a girl who was a singer for a somewhat similar styled band.

carrie underwood, martina mcbride, miranda lambert, sugarland, et al...

371 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Apr 11, 2010 12:42 am

[370] You'd love a lot of traditional Japanese food I think, it's been "organic" for centuries!

Country..hmm...does the smoking hotness outweigh the putrid music?

Another day game, hope I wake up to a victory and a funny gamethread to browse through!

372 thelarmis   ~  Apr 11, 2010 12:56 am

i love indian and thai food. of course, chinese food is great. i've never liked japanese food, though. i've tried the miso soup / chicken teriyaki route, but it doesn't do it for me...

yeah, the smokin' hotness pretty much outweighs the music! i've dated two of these singers now! : ) but seriously, a lot of the music is excellent...it's the pickup truck lyrics that really suck...

373 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Apr 11, 2010 1:02 am

[372] Damn, getting hungry here now..me and Mrs. Jazz are going shopping a bit later, to the basement food floor at the department store down the street. I've been craving a hero all day, think will fry up some eggplant & mozzerella, make a real solid sandwich..

"Pickup truck lyrics.." nice one!

When you heading over to Turner Field next? Do you live far from there? Take some pics when you do and get them up online!

374 thelarmis   ~  Apr 11, 2010 1:08 am

mmm, eggplant & mozz hero sounds downright delectable! i'm enjoying a bunch of sierra nevada pale ale : )

yeah, i call it "arena rock with pickup truck lyrics"

i used to live walking distance from turner field in the late 90's. the last 10 years, i was just a few miles from there - 3 or 4. now, i'm 3 miles further down the road, which i guess is still pretty damn close.

as of now, i'm supposed to go w/ some friends Sun May 2nd vs. the Stros. but if i end up picking up a jazz brunch gig, i won't be able to go. i was offered tix to opening day here, but had two jobs...

375 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Apr 11, 2010 1:18 am

"Arena Rock"!! REO Speedwagon, Boston, Kansas, Journey, Foreigner in the 70s..then Def Leppard, Bon Jovi & Poison in the hair-metal 80s..then the "alrternative" years of Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, etc... (how "alternative" can you be when you play the old Captial Centre in DC??)

I do still have a soft spot for the Classic Rock arena dinosaurs though..Pink Floyd and Zeppelin forever!

Man, I bet the Braves will sell more tix if Jason Hayward has a strong rookie year..he seems like the real deal.

376 thelarmis   ~  Apr 11, 2010 1:30 am

jason heyward is most definitely the real deal. i hope he stays healthy for a lengthy career. it could be special!

zeppelin rules! BONHAM = ROCK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

377 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Apr 11, 2010 1:39 am

Time to head out, enjoy those Pale Ale's and get ready for the sunday matinee tomorrow!

378 thelarmis   ~  Apr 11, 2010 1:45 am

[377] yeah, not sure i'll make it tomorrow. today's near no-no really cut into my day. i'll prolly have to read about tomorrow, after the fact...

have fun w/ the mrs. and jr.!
