let's do it!

2 rbj   ~  Apr 14, 2010 1:06 pm

So why's today's game at 1 pm? Anticipation of cold weather at night? I can understand the home opener during the day, but why the second game when tomorrow's is at 7 pm.

3 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 14, 2010 1:10 pm

sing it with me now:

he ain't Javy, he's my brother..

4 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 14, 2010 1:17 pm

(still singing with two runners on)

So on we go
His pitching is my concern
No burden is he to bear, we'll get there

5 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 14, 2010 1:19 pm

19 pitches, no damage

6 seamus   ~  Apr 14, 2010 1:20 pm

phew. anyone watching? How does Javy look? I like Javy and always wanted him to do well.

7 rbj   ~  Apr 14, 2010 1:20 pm

phew. No damage done.

8 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 14, 2010 1:25 pm

[6] I thought he got squeezed on a couple. He looks good on some pitches, but looked to me like he lost command with runners on.

9 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 14, 2010 1:25 pm

Hey everyone. At the stadium on a gorgeous day for the game (sons 6th bday present).

Loving these seats. Let's hope Javy settles in already.

19 NYYfan22   ~  Apr 14, 2010 1:41 pm

Thanks guys. Javy looked better in the 2nd by he's not completely settled yet, methinks.

Here's the boys (JJ on the left and his pal Jake on the R). Whoa! torii just missed a spectacular catch. Robbie on 2nd 1 out.

[19]

Nice pic! What section are you in?

22 seamus   ~  Apr 14, 2010 1:44 pm

[19] second try here but great photo. A beauty of a day to be at the game with the kids!

[20] seriously? wow!

23 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 1:48 pm

[16] hilarious!

[19] adorable!

24 RIYank   ~  Apr 14, 2010 1:50 pm

27 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 1:51 pm

28 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 1:52 pm

and now javy's era is back over 10

29 RIYank   ~  Apr 14, 2010 1:52 pm

Ruh roh.

30 Diane Firstman   ~  Apr 14, 2010 1:53 pm

Javy Nagilamonster now ...

31 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 1:54 pm

my boy boBBy is kinda killin' us...

32 RIYank   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:00 pm

Interesting, the Halos seemed to be stealing well against Posada in the top of the inning, but plainly they would have been a lot better off not attempting to steal at all. That's a good lesson in the dubious value of speed on the basepaths...

33 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:01 pm

Is there any particular reason we're not hitting Joel Pineiro?

34 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:04 pm

Wetteland was one of them

35 rbj   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:04 pm

[33] Don't want to hurt his feelings?

36 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:06 pm

[35] or maybe don't wanna hurt Shelley Ducan's dads' feelings?

37 seamus   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:13 pm

considering how Javy seems to be struggling I feel pretty fortunate not to be down by more than 2-0. (knocks on wood)

38 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:15 pm

[37] that he hasn't reached his power potential yet. oh, not brandon. i see!

Twins just tied it up at 2!

39 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:16 pm

now would be a good time for a-rod's first homer...

40 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:17 pm

This is embarrassing.

41 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:18 pm

[39] well, i didn't say he would homer there, just that it woulda been nice...

42 RIYank   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:19 pm

[41] And you were absolutely right! Amazing.

43 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:19 pm

[40] yup. but still more than half the game to go...

neyer agreed with your thoughts on the puckett statue. i didn't read his link, just saw the headline...

44 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:20 pm

[42] that's how i roll! i left another comment on the food thread.

45 Diane Firstman   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:22 pm

Big Papi just finished a streak of 11 Ks in 15 PAs. Ouch!

46 RIYank   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:22 pm

[44] Yeah, that you don't know what arugula is. Shocker.

47 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:23 pm

[45] ouch? that's beautiful!

48 RIYank   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:25 pm

Javy is settling down nicely. So is Slowey.

49 rbj   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:26 pm

[45] Ouch. No more Manny, no more PEDs, what's a Big Poopi to do?

50 seamus   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:26 pm

nice inning there from Javy.

51 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:26 pm

nice. well, IF javy has a 1-2-3 inning, he'll have a quality game - 6 innings, 2 runs, in-game WHIP of 1, ~100 pitches. not his fault we've reached base ONCE against piniero...

52 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:29 pm

Pineiro is not really this good, is he?

53 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:32 pm

[46] of course, you only harp on the bad! not my like of cumin and knowledge of a little known bop trumpeter. i see how ya are! ; )

54 seamus   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:33 pm

[53] i'm still recovering from your like of van hagar.

55 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:34 pm

get this run in Swish

56 RagingTartabull   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:34 pm

[54] they DID sell more albums with Sammy, someone had to have liked them

57 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:35 pm

[54] well put! if it helps, the latest sammy cd is god awful. yes, i have it, but my brother gave it to me. the red rocker used to be cool!

58 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:36 pm

Is there a reasom many guys seem to have pants legs that are 6" too long? Is this a style I am unaware of?

59 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:38 pm

[58] well, outside of baseball, it's 'coz the kids wear their jeans halfway down their butt. it's the single dumbest style i've ever seen in my life.

60 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:38 pm

sweet Swish!

61 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:38 pm

SWISH SHOT!

62 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:39 pm

SWISH!!!

and we're making him work this inning. tie this bitch up right now!

63 RagingTartabull   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:39 pm

someone please explain to me how Swish ends up with a triple?

64 RIYank   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:39 pm

[53] Well, the cumin thing was another example of the unpredictability I was talking about...

Whoa, I was about to ask whether this is the Robbie and the Bozos Show, and Swish gets all Swishalicious on me!

65 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:39 pm

uh....

66 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:39 pm

Swisher is going to the opposite field nicely this year.

67 seamus   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:40 pm

ah swish! sweet. just checked back in and saw that. sweet.

68 seamus   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:41 pm

[57] yeah, you can't do nothing about gifted cds. well, except trash them but that seems wasteful of even bad music. I was at a show last year where the band started giving away free cds. I was the only one who didn't take one. They kind of sucked after all.

69 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:41 pm

[64] gapper rolls to the wall. I'd have to look at it again, which I cant, but the outfileders might have been in when he launched it. Great hustle.

70 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:42 pm

[69] for [63] not [64]

71 RIYank   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:44 pm

Christ, My Little Pony is off to a galloping little start, isn't he?

72 RIYank   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:46 pm

Oy.

73 Raf   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:48 pm

[63] Swisher ran hard from the stop, the ball rolled all the way to the wall, and the Angels OF arms aren't all that great.

74 Shaun P.   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:49 pm

[54] [56] [57] Indeed, someone did like Van Hagar - me! I even saw them on their (albeit) brief 2004 reunion tour. I'm just a VH junkie though, I bought the VH3 album (with Extreme's Gary Cherone as lead singer) the day it came out, and had front row tickets for a stop on the VH3 tour. What can I say . . .

I've never bought Cabo Wabo Tequila, though.

Meanwhile, Joel Pineiro seems like the perfect Angels pitcher - he shouldn't be able to dominate the Yanks' lineup, but he is. That's been the Angels' tune for waaayyy too long now. I wish it'd go the way of Diamond Dave.

75 seamus   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:53 pm

[74] i actually liked Van Halen back in the day. I bought the first Van Hagar album I think. And liked it before i didn't.

76 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 14, 2010 2:53 pm

pfft. Javy falls just short of quality, but definite improvement.

77 Raf   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:00 pm

[76] Kinda the story of his career.

78 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:02 pm

Better, but nowhere near good enough.

79 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:02 pm

[68] well, my brother has no problem taking gifted cd's and selling them. i'm with you though, and think that's in poor taste. though i can see both sides...

[74] wow, you're more hardcore than me. i never got Balance and what i heard sucked. Gary Cherone is great and i liked the first 3 Extreme records, esp Pornograffitti, which is just awesome, but i never got VH3 with him.

i saw the OU812 tour at MSG with my 8th grade band. i think it was a Monday night. we had cool parents! : )

most of the DLR solo studio albums were incredible, esp the first 3 lp's. that was an amazing band w/ vai, sheehan & bissonette!!!

[75] how can anybody "unlike" VH1?!?!?! one of the greatest debut rock records of all-time!!!!!!!!

80 RIYank   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:03 pm

Hmmmm.
I look forward to Hughes.

81 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:03 pm

ugh. i hope Hughes is on tomorrow. i'd like to keep winning series. not that this game is over yet...

82 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:05 pm

[79] i think he meant 5150.

83 RIYank   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:08 pm

Good. I think one more base runner and Pineiro hits the showers.

84 RIYank   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:11 pm

NJ has been all about the Three True Outcomes this year.

85 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:12 pm

[82] 5150 is a great record. really fun to listen to in the summer, downing a few pints of ale! : )

86 seamus   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:12 pm

ok tex enough of the bs. time to hit.

87 seamus   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:12 pm

[82] i think so. that sounds familiar.

88 rbj   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:18 pm

Um, are we sure that's Joel Pineiro out there? It's not like he's an URP.

89 seamus   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:19 pm

well, at least our good hitters come up next inning.

90 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:23 pm

It sucks when there's no Brian Fuentes to count on blowing the game.

91 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:24 pm

well, this sucks. i kinda need to get on with my day now. lotsa teaching tonight...

let's just hope Minny comes back and wins...

92 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:24 pm

[90] fernando rodney, still might be a good bet!

93 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:27 pm

meh ... not pitching for 8 days has left the Vulture wild ...

94 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:31 pm

I actually agree with Kay there. The filthy helmets just look bad.

95 seamus   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:35 pm

cano didn't get a hit? now things are really off.

96 rbj   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:39 pm

Sigh.

97 RIYank   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:40 pm

Okajima pitching to Mauer with two on, two out, down a run. V-Mart lets one go by, runners on second and third.

They're putting Mauer on to face Morneau.

98 RIYank   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:42 pm

Ugh. Justin gets underneath an 80 mph fastball and pops out.

99 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:47 pm

[94] i agree.

piniero is pitching like a freaking ace. wtf?! : /

100 RIYank   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:49 pm

[99] Was.
Time to rally against the bullpen!
Though like you, I'll have to go do other stuff in a short while.

101 Raf   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:51 pm

This is how the Halos started off yesterday against Robertson

102 RIYank   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:56 pm

Hey, look at that! Not at all what I expected from NJ. That's not a True Outcome!

Here we go.

103 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:57 pm

tie this shit up, Tex!!!

104 rbj   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:57 pm

Rally time! Beat that rally monkey.

105 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 14, 2010 3:59 pm

[102] Is that Johnson's first single of the year?

106 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 14, 2010 4:01 pm

If they would just eliminate April and October, Teixeira would be unstoppable.

107 seamus   ~  Apr 14, 2010 4:01 pm

something is off with my gameday. where did jeter go?

108 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 14, 2010 4:02 pm

[107] Scored

109 Raf   ~  Apr 14, 2010 4:02 pm

[107] Jeter scored on the NJ single

110 seamus   ~  Apr 14, 2010 4:03 pm

[107] i should explain that gameday says it is 5-2 with 1 out and NJ on 2nd. So tex made out i guess. but jeter couldn't of scored or there'd be 5-3 and he didn't make out if there is only 1 out. confused.

111 seamus   ~  Apr 14, 2010 4:03 pm

[108] [109] ah thanks. that explains it. gameday just updated that too.

112 seamus   ~  Apr 14, 2010 4:04 pm

with tex and arod slumping Cano hasn't really been tested much with RISP.

113 seamus   ~  Apr 14, 2010 4:06 pm

ground out to third sounds like a typical RISP at bat for Cano. Is that what folks saw?

114 rbj   ~  Apr 14, 2010 4:09 pm

Arrgh! And now I have to go home & walk the dogs, so I'll miss the ninth.

115 thelarmis   ~  Apr 14, 2010 4:09 pm

well, that was a tease...

116 Raf   ~  Apr 14, 2010 4:15 pm

[113] Solid contact, hit it directly to Wood.

117 seamus   ~  Apr 14, 2010 4:18 pm

[116] thanks. i'm glad to hear that he hit it solid.

118 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 14, 2010 4:19 pm

This is really the first game of the year where the Yankees have looked absolutely horrendous. Hopefully its the last for a while.

119 Raf   ~  Apr 14, 2010 4:32 pm

Are these guys serious? It's as if Vazquez hasn't pitched since October 2004

120 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 14, 2010 4:33 pm

[119] ?

121 Raf   ~  Apr 14, 2010 4:43 pm

[119] Kay and Leiter were going on about Vazquez referencing his 2004 season.

122 Shaun P.   ~  Apr 14, 2010 4:45 pm

Well, can't win 'em all. If they win tomorrow, that's 3 series, all won 2 out of 3. If they keep winning 2 out of every 3, we'll all be very, very happy.

[79] thelarmis, you should give Balance a try. It might be my favorite VH record. I had a chance to see them on the Balance tour and passed it up - and I still kick myself for it, 15 years later. Who knew things would fall apart after that? I have a lot of fondness for Right Here Right Now Live, and 5150, and of course VH1 - so its hard to pick a (single) favorite - but Balance might just be it.

123 Shaun P.   ~  Apr 14, 2010 4:46 pm

[121] I expect there's going to be a lot of that this year, regardless of how Vazquez pitches.

124 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 14, 2010 4:53 pm

[121] I think its too early to make any rash decisions on anyone, but I also think Vazquez career in New York and Chicago could just suggest that he's an NL pitcher.

125 Raf   ~  Apr 14, 2010 5:02 pm

[124] There isn't much of a variation between his NL and AL numbers

126 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 14, 2010 5:26 pm

I think his peripherals are very similar. He finds away to give up a lot more runs in the AL.

127 Raf   ~  Apr 14, 2010 6:22 pm

[126] That doesn't appear to be the case either; his career NL ERA is 4.02, his career AL ERA is 4.58. It's possible that the difference could be explained by the DH.

128 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 14, 2010 11:54 pm

So if the DH turns him from a good pitcher to a so so one, wouldn't it stand to reason that he's better suited for the league without the DH?

129 Raf   ~  Apr 15, 2010 12:43 am

If that were the case, then wouldn't there be a wider variance in his peripherals between the two leagues?
