I’m with a guy who thinks Wyoming is a country. You think you got problems?
John Cazale (left) apparently ad-libbed that line in Dog Day Afternoon. Cazale was in five movies: Godfather I, Godfather II, The Conversation, Dog Day Afternoon and The Deer Hunter. Pound-for-pound perhaps the greatest movie career in history. And he was terrific in all of them.
Cazale, who died of bone cancer before The Deer Hunter was released, is the subject of a documentary tonight on HBO.
I’m so there.
I couldn't agree with you more! He was the sheiss!
1) Did you ever see any of his stage work?
so so excited for this, one of the best.
I'm pretty sure the only members of the "Never Made a Bad Movie Club" are Cazale and James Dean...and even East of Eden is kinda debatable.
[2] Sadly, no. Did you?
Francessa was talking about that last week. Sounds real interesting
4) nah, too young. It would have been interesting to have a memory of him in a roll that wasn't like the ones he played in the movies.
Man, I wish I hadn't canceled HBO.
[7] Seriously, I'd love to see this. Oh well, I suppose the InterTubes will have to provide ...
Cazale was awesome..didn't Al Pacino say that had he lived they would have made movies together for the rest of their careers?
He was great in the Deer Hunter, but that is not a good film....
[9] It's such a problematic movie, but it has sequences and performances that are just incredible. I could watch DeNiro and Cazale arguing over the extra pair of boots all day long.
[9] See! It *is* possible that we can agree!
[11] Oh, well, on second thoughts, I guess not. It's not a great movie (i.e. it's overrated generally) but it is at least a decently good, interesting movie and certain scenes are very, very good.
Which, I suppose, about sums up my reaction to Cimino in general ...
[10] "Ya see this? This is this. This ain't something else. This is this."
Maybe I'm a movie whore, but I love that flick. If forms one point of the Vietnam triad that I've seen around a dozen times each, maybe more, with Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket.
"Hard core. Fucking hard core."
And in honor of Dennis Hopper. "What are they gonna say about him? What are they gonna say? That he was a kind man? That he was a wise man? That he had plans, man? That he had wisdom? Bullshit, man!"
