"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

Ace in the Hole?

Gray haze, that’s how it be in the Bronx today.

Hot all over the asphalt jungle of New York as Sabathia and Santana square off at Yankee Stadium.

Sabathia had plenty of nothing last time he faced the Mets; here’s hoping he brings the rukus and the score truck.

Let’s go Yan-Kees!

Raining in New Haven.
And the Bronx?

ooh a tbs game. cool

It would have been a hit anyway, but Arod has no later movement. At the plate, he seems to have no rotation. The Yankees would be better off putting him on the DL if he continues to struggle. If he continues to struggle, or winds up getting more seriously injured, the Yankees are in deep trouble.

Cashman needs to make up for his very poor off season by coming up with a productive offensive player sooner than later.

Nice pitch.

[3] Agreed. Watching the play I was surprised Alex wasn't closer to the ball before it went through. Kind of surprised he didn't at least lay out for it.

Haven't noticed how he's affected at the plate, I'll watch for it.

Thoughts on potential targets?

7 seamus   ~  Jun 20, 2010 1:23 pm

Santana looks like he is on.

8 Eirias   ~  Jun 20, 2010 1:25 pm

Jeter has an edge.

9 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 20, 2010 1:29 pm

[6] There are the obvious suspects like Berkman and Konerko, but I hope he doesn't go that route. When I was more pessimistic about Gardner, DeJesus looked like a nice possibility. He still would be a good addition, but he really doesn't fit for the Yankees because he is a lefty (like Gardner and Granderson). Instead, I think the Yankees need someone who can play some third base, preferably a right handed hitter. Without knowing the contract status, Aramis Ramirez might be a good idea. He is having an awful season and the Cubs may eventually look to cut payroll, so maybe the Yanks can pick him up in a buy low deal.

10 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 20, 2010 1:32 pm

[9] Looking at Ramirez' contract, he not only has a player option for 2011, but if he is traded, 2012 becomes guaranteed. In other words, it doesn't make sense from a fiscal standpoint.

11 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 20, 2010 1:36 pm

Forcing Arod into this lineup hurts more than not having in there to begin with. The Yankees have really outplayed their management this season.

12 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 20, 2010 1:41 pm

[9] From Cot's:

10:$15.75M, 11:$14.6M player option, 12:$16M club option ($2M buyout)

So, Ramirez is probably out of the discussion.

13 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 20, 2010 1:45 pm

That's a very bad at bat by Granderson. He really hurts the Yankees when a good lefty is on the mound.

14 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 20, 2010 1:47 pm

[13] He pretty much hurts the Yankees when any lefty is on the mound ...

15 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 20, 2010 1:48 pm

C'mon Frankie, make your 3 for 30 count!

16 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 20, 2010 1:51 pm

That inning highlights the Yankees' problem right now: in the lineup are a compromised player, one who can't hit lefties and another who really isn't a very good hitter. Sometimes, you have a guy like Russo and/or Pena added into the mix.

17 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 20, 2010 1:53 pm

[15] Granderson was a good acquisition when you had a lineup that was 9-deep with a lot of righty power. With Arod and Tex providing little of the latter and growing holes in the lineup, he really is a liability against lefties.

18 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 20, 2010 2:01 pm

I dont want to kill Jeter, but swinging at the first pitch in this AB makes no sense at all.

19 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 20, 2010 2:05 pm

Jeter swinging at a lot of bad pitches this year.

Howdy folks. Just got done with chores.

Gotta say, I couldn't have cared less about a Yankees win yesterday. Pool party was fine, started out with four of us guys from the dojo, three with young kids.

But then one of our host's medical students showed up. Um, er, oh, wow. Only problem was she forgot a bathing suit. So after some persuading our host took her to get one, I'd have been fine with a one piece, but it was turquoise bikini. Um, er, yeah, well, er, um, well, ah.

Apparently there is now a big Colombian population in northern New Jersey, where I'm originally from.

45 RIYank   ~  Jun 20, 2010 2:43 pm

[44] You're a married man.

46 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 20, 2010 2:45 pm

[45] RBJ: Um, er, yeah, well, er, um, well, ah

ARod is just plain missing.

51 RIYank   ~  Jun 20, 2010 2:48 pm

[47] Oh, I don't know why I thought you were married. I remember you saying you were going to do something "with the family", that's probably why.

52 Chyll Will   ~  Jun 20, 2010 2:50 pm

[51] He seems to have that presence about him (in a good way of course)...

53 rbj   ~  Jun 20, 2010 2:54 pm

[49] Not yet, but summer just got interesting. I'm totally out of her league, but hey I'm not doing anything else at the moment.

[51] Yeah, next weekend I'm meeting up with the parents & sisters & visiting cousins.

You know, Michael Kay isn't annoying right now.

54 RIYank   ~  Jun 20, 2010 2:55 pm

[52] Ah, yes. And it's Father's Day, so you'd expect someone who has presents about him to be married.

55 thelarmis   ~  Jun 20, 2010 2:55 pm

yeah, a-rod.

don't be hurt!

56 RIYank   ~  Jun 20, 2010 2:57 pm

Hi thelarmis.
I have only half an eye on baseball. I'm actually watching soccer. Brazil. (It's like watching Mo, just a thing of beauty no matter who you're rooting for.)

57 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 20, 2010 2:58 pm

[56] No tv here ... i'm going to watch it once the replay is up on ESPN3, so

[53] Well, you won't make The Show with that attitude, kid. Get your mind right and your game up. You're not outta anyone's league.

[54] Not in this day and age, unfortunately. Some of them end up on Maury...

61 RIYank   ~  Jun 20, 2010 3:03 pm

[57] Huh, they dont stream it. Oh, because it's on ABC, I get it.

[58] Yes, they came and played soccer with me. (Beats the shit out of cologne or a tie.)

[60] I am shocked. Scandalized.

66 thelarmis   ~  Jun 20, 2010 3:08 pm

67 RIYank   ~  Jun 20, 2010 3:09 pm

[66] But Dickey was a triples machine...

68 seamus   ~  Jun 20, 2010 3:09 pm

[76] nice. are you going to any of the upcoming shows on the phish tour?

78 rbj   ~  Jun 20, 2010 3:30 pm

This kid's impressive.

79 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 20, 2010 3:33 pm

[77] The 3 shows at the Berkeley Greek in August, which is going to be great, the Berkeley Greek is one of my favorite places to see a show.

80 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 20, 2010 3:34 pm

[78] Imagine if they actually used him in games when it mattered?

81 rbj   ~  Jun 20, 2010 3:37 pm

[80] Yeah, but as he's only 20 I figure they're just letting him get his feet wet in the majors. I suspect he'll be a starter next year. Then again, these are the Mets we're talking about.

82 RIYank   ~  Jun 20, 2010 3:39 pm

[79] ff...
Who, Meja? I went back to soccer. Oh, it's raining in the Bronx...

83 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 20, 2010 3:42 pm

[81] Yeah, but I don't really see there's a coherent plan in their decision making. They say they *need* him in their bullpen, but he's basically the last guy in it and essentially pitches infrequently and never in high leverage situations, which seems the antithesis of someone who's needed in a bullpen.

Given that, he really ought to be in AAA working on what he needs to do to be a starter.

84 thelarmis   ~  Jun 20, 2010 3:42 pm

tampon lost. we can have 1st all to ourselves...if it dries up and we get 3 more outs...

85 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 20, 2010 3:45 pm

[84] Or even if it doesn't and we don't ...

86 thelarmis   ~  Jun 20, 2010 3:54 pm

[85] oh yeah!

well, i guess i can go get on with my day now...

87 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 20, 2010 3:58 pm
