Afternoon Art, Evening Derby

Since the Ding Dong Derby is tonight, how about a good old-fashioned battle from an over-sized ’70s comic?

Welp, Swish went for four homers in the first round, dribbled the first pitch a few feet behind the plate. Not as bad as Chris Young or Vernon Wells, so there's that, but not enough to save him from getting ribbed by his teammates. The ESPN chuckleheads interviewed A Rod during Swisher's go around which was distracting, and forcing A Rod into a situation where he was going to do nothing but irritate most fans, lol. Ah, bless his heart.

aight.. Papi crushed it. Hanley and Miggy need to hit 4 or less each for Swish to make it to round 2. meh.

well.. 6 swings into Hanley's rnd 1 and Nick da Stick is mathematically eliminated. At least his arms won't fall off at midnight tonight.

Papi's hitting bombs. Ryan Howard is being interviewed. Seems like a nice, friendly kid.

[0] I never understood the point of all the "Superman vs. ____" sepcial edition comics...by definition, wouldn't Superman beat ANYone?

Wasn't a big comic kid so please, someone enlighten me...

[9] I KNOW!!

I always thought the same thing and almost posted about that myself! It's my first thought, every time!

I have zero idea what Spider Man (and he was my favorite as a kid!) could possibly do to harm or even hinder Superman.

[10] Excellent! Man, Spidey was my favorite too (somewhere there's a photo from Halloween 1979 of me in a Spider-Man outfit..shudder...)

So wouldn't the evil Superman from the Legion of Doom be the only guy with a chance against Superman? (And did I just get teleported from the Banter into a Seinfeld episode? :)

[11] What about Superman vs. Might Mouse in a fight. Who do you think would win?

13 Boatzilla   ~  Jul 12, 2010 11:33 pm

Eh, ooops, I mean Mighty Mouse.

Some fun moments in the celebrity softball game.

Jenny Finch throws a first-pitch heater to Rickey Henderson as a joke, then grooves a slow-pitch and Rickey blasts it to center for a lead-off home run and styles/pimps his way around the bases.

Finch who seemed to struggle with slow pitching, giving up a ton of homers, hits one herself later. Then Rickey hits another in his second AB . . . more pimpin' it.

Bo Jackson hit a slow-pitch softball (off Finch) almost to the actual warning track at Angel Stadium.

Fred Lynn hit a wall-scraper homer for Goose Gossage's team (off Finch), crosses home, holds his fingers thisfar apart and tells Goose "that was a Bucky Dent."

Good stuff.

[13] Mighty Mouse was a Mets fan.

[14] Bo hit a SOFTBALL to the warning track? He's still got it!
