I’m curious to see how Steinbrenner’s death will be covered during the All-Star Game tonight. I’m sure the announcers will talk about it and perhaps a mention of the Boss will be included in the pre-game ceremonies. Should be interesting. No Mariano for the American Leaguers. But I don’t think it’s going to come to that. Says here that the Nationals will get off the schnied and win in hand, 7-3 or maybe worse. All the same, I’ll be pulling for the Junior Circut.
Go git ’em, boys. Dare to be a Special.
Diggin the YES coverage of George's passing. Sterling was on with Kay and he does a great Steinbrenner. That's one thing that's coming up for me today, how funny George was, to laugh at, and sometimes with.
Reggie hasn't talked to any assembled media because he's still too distraught. There have been some candid reactions from former Yankees tonight and in this day and age of the canned quote and the speedy quick tweet, Reggie might just have one more great performance left. Man, I hope they just let the cameras roll and the dude spills his guts out. Hard not to imagine Ray Negron being close by...
I was gonna say, I really would have liked a Ray Negron react today. Talk about a guy who saw EVERY side of George...
I'm hoping/predicting Jeter does something memorable tonight
Yeah, that would be great. Or A Rod hitting a Joe Morgan Big Fly.
I appreciate the efforts of those being honored but this Glee singing is BRU-tale.
I went to a baseball game, and an "Up With People" performance broke out.
wow Joe and Jeter a little emotional
Hey, kids. Game's about to start. Now brush your teeth and get ready for bed. : (
[6] Glad to say I've never seen that singer before.
Carew still has an arm!
[10]
Jamie Moyer is jealous.
are we really gonna have an exhibition game end at something like 2 am EST??
Is it me or the general mood or what, but the Nick Apollo album cover photo reminds me a lot of a younger Steinbrenner.
12) well, "it counts"' remember.
Just got a text saying "Ichiro is dynamite"...why? don't have Gameday open yet..what happend?
Hit one out, Captain!
that was cool...other than the amateurs in Anaheim stepping on it
haha the News tracked down Howie Spira for a quote, lets just say he hasn't moved on
Just turned on the game and zipped through the introductions. Fuggin' Angels fans booing every Yankee. Go fuck a rally monkey, you mindless twats. That's the home team you're booing, dipshits. Save it for the playoffs, if you can manage to get there, morons.
Evening, Team.
So, the All-Star Game...
Robbie having a Dan Uggla kinda night here
Bleh, Shoulda had that one, Robbie.
That's not a hit. Robbie makes that play in his sleep.
There you go, Robbie!
[21] Uggla that. : )
Robbie a bit nervous tonight?
Anaheim is one of the herbiest (yeah thats right) fanbases in the league. its rivaled only by Tampa
[27] Tampa??!! Is it medicinal there??
[28] it would explain the cowbells
[27] Have you been to Colorado lately?
tater time Robbie
Andy coming out for the 3rd!
and yes I'm a geek that gets excited to see Yankees in the ASG, what can I say?
Andy!!
YEAH ANDY!!
[34]
Buzz!
Shut UP about the "core four," PLEASE!
Very enticing picture on Gameday for Hart-san...
thats right son
Andy looking nasty!
Nice inning, Andy!
Pettitte to Hanley to Jeter to Cano. : )
this is pretty cool, wfan.com has posted Suzyn Waldman's interview with George from 3/1/93 (his return from suspension) and the sitdown with Yogi from '99. I mean say what you will about Suzyn, but these should be fun to give a listen to.
If this game started at 7 eastern or so it would be over by now.
oh man this '93 interview is full of Tartabully goodness!!
and pinch hitting!
Doesn't look like some guys brought their 'A" game, huh?
Yay, Robbie!
That's our Robbie!
Robbie for MVP!!
good piece of hitting for robbie. I was thinking he'd have to go the other way with it.
But it will be nice if it turns out Robbie drives in the winning run.
(cricket, cricket...)
[53] This time it counts! Everyone too tense for game thread!
[54] That has to be it. I thought somebody yelled "CHOI!" or something...
the one time i root for that fat fucking liar to do well, he does what i always hope he does, except for this one a-b...
just getting in. looks like a pitchers duel...
Huuuuuughes
[55] hee sop?! ; )
hughes!
[58] Yeah, yunnow... good times >;)
I will say this for Ol' George: he did charity right most of the time. Nobody knew a damn thing about it unless the recipient told on him. Classic antihero stuff.
oh no, really Hughes??
Whenever I hear "great baserunner" I always think Scott Rolen. Give me a fucking break.
[62] Timmah announcing the game??!
Girardi's in bullpen roulette heaven tonight. : )
[62] hahahahah! No fucking kidding!
good. now, 1 more, get outta this...
I guess Hughes is no longer an eighth inning-type guy, huh?
oh, fuck. i'm not surprised. i see mccann do that all the time here.
i guess 2 of those runs are on hughes's ledger. damn.
Game 7 in Shea, er..Citi Field now?
oh well..grub time. A-Rod off the becnh for a tater in the 9th!
Okay, I've really had enough of Timmeh. G'nite, all. (and I thought, "hey, why not drop in on this game thread?")
zzzZZ Who?? ZZzzz
phil hughes' all-star game era is not nearly as pretty as the hottie that sang 'god bless hot blonde women...'
54.00 vs. absolute goddess
; )
here's swish!
[71] i think she's a pop country singer. the girl that sings in the band of that style i play in, likes her. i think i heard one song and she was really good. she's certainly SEXY!!! ; )
oh, poor swish. 4 homers in the derby and a pinch hit strike out in the 7th...
matt holliday catching flies in LA...
oh matthew...
HOW is that a double??? in and out of his glove. ERROR!!!
[not that it matters...]
good. a lil' rally...
[ooh, no fucking monkey, please...]
We want Alex in the 9th!
Did McCarver just say that Wainwright has won all his games at home because the mound is the same height for every home game? Seems like he's forgetting the fact that the water fountains in the home clubhouse are always the same height also. That's definitely a major contributing factor as well. I always thought McCarver was good at this announcing thing, but now i feel totally let down. Bummer.
those cleats are very...orange...
rolen's got a gun
we're going to regret this night come october. It's gotta be Arod.
True Yankee Arod will go yard for the Boss if they play him. It always comes down to Arod!
we're not going to see arod i fear. hopefully we do though...
[76] or not catching them
Nice baserunning by Pig Sloppy
[87] yeah. i was referring back to the playoff game vs. the dodgers when he dropped the ball!
oh, FUCK YOU, fat liar!!! goddamn cocksucker.
[86] It's just got to be now. A-Rod...clap clap clap clap clap ....A-Rod!
wtf?
where's a-rod?!
[89] Oh I know!
i can't believe that girardi just let the NL win without even playing arod.
motherfucker.
a-rod for the tie...
i don't get it... insanity.
Fire Giradi! ; )
Well, we'll just have to win without homefield this year
I have to say I was pretty peeved that A-Rod didn't get into the game. When Buck's hit dropped, I thought for sure A-Rod was going to come in and hit a three-run walk-off. Guess it wasn't to be.
I'm told the change in my facial expression between the ball falling and the realization that Ortiz was running was quite comical
[98] I would pay $5 to watch a replay of that transformation..perhaps similar to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-E1NfmSWxU
