I like this Dustin guy we have pitching tonight. Hopefully he pitches as well as his aw shucks personality appeals.
Kim just said on YES that Swisher has the highest BA of any switch hitter in the AL at 300. Dat true?
Chad over at Lohud ran into him at the R&R Hall of Fame today. I like him already!
That, and watching him blow away a few Mets back in June while at the stadium made him a fave.
Jack Curry is back! How can a baseball analyst take a vacation in the summer? Anyway I'm glad to see him because Bob Lorenz is as dry as a popsicle stick across the tongue without him.
That tower of theirs is a rip-off of the Municipal Building.
Just saying.
That Curtis has a pretty good arm.
This game is starting out sub-optimally.
[7] And grows sub-optimallier.
Yes, that was hardly efficient.
That was a strike
Can we score 10 runs tonight?
I might just turn this off before The Headache has time to insinuate itself...
I fear the most subbest-optimallest outcome.
does anyone get the feeling that the Yankees lose this game 7-1, the 1 being an A-Rod solo shot in the 8th inning?
I was gonna say that the umps sound like they're putting the squeeze on, but I can't see on the radio...
Goddamn, he almost botched that play.
I know they can't all be stars. But how is that this team has Gaudin and Mitre and Moseley at the same time? Do we really need more than one of them? No one at AAA can do a better job?
Miraculous.
Anyone know off-hand how many homers Alex has lifetime?
That could have been less optimal. Unfortunately, he's on pace to complete about three innings, but at least the damage has been minimalized for now.
I'll take it. Moseley kept his cool. He got the ground ball to Arod when he needed it, but I guess the dp was not doable.
How is that a change and not a curve?
That's the curviest looking change I think I've ever seen.
Come on, gritner.
.........
frankie - swinging on the first pitch? After 3 BBs? Somebody show Mr. Cervelli to the door.
Gazoo Brains probably should not have swung at the 1st pitch after the bases had been walked full. : (
Watch your lips.
I like this Curtis fella ...
Anyone think Little CC is a MLB 4th OFer? He does have a sweet swing and a bit of pop.
Normally I would cringe at the bunt in this situation, but Grandy now facing a LHP...
Good bunt. Come on, Teix.
And it comes down to A-rod again.
callin it
This has to be a tailor=made situation for #600, right?
[30] He certainly is not embarrassing himself. I agree he's got a sweet swing.
Well, assuming Perez can throw a strike ...
Fuck a duck. Thought he had it.
damn
and moseley settles into a groove....would be great to get the pen some rest, we're gonna need their best in tampa
I leave the room for a few minutes, with the bases loaded and ARod up, I come back and Cleveland is batting and the Yanks scored only one run. Dare I say...sup-optimal?
But, it looks like Moseley has settled down nicely.
True Grit!
Speedy, gritty, scrappy Brett Gardner!
[42] Gritty™ ?
[44] better see if David Eckstein has the TM on that. Cervelli, unproductive out.
#gazoofail
Cervelli may need to learn the bunt play.
[45] You're right. I thought that Eckstein was Scrappy™, but then I remembered that trademark belongs to Pedroia.
I don't know what the hell Joey Joe Joe's excuse for not bunting Brains there, maybe it was because the rookie was on deck. Bollocks.
[43] Gritner leads the 2010 team in NPoHBATY, Nice Pieces of Hitting by a TRUE YANKEE(TM).
This ARod fellow would hit more home runs if he weren't so selfishly obsessed with his RBI. Good fer nuthin' sac fly hitting piece of shit. BOOOO!
Grrrr....
The Yankees again seem to be playing with half a lineup, and I think to the quote I read on mlbtraderumors.com, that they don't want to trade for a bat because that would be a luxury.
Oh well. Maybe next inning.
[49] That's the thing with A-rod. For most players, a sac fly is much less selfish than a HR. But A-Rod knows that the fans, teammates, media...America...is waiting for #600. He just wants the attention. Selfish.
[51] yeah, and it's not like he tied the game or anything. Unclutch bastid.
Good job, Mr.Moseley. You might just finish five innings yet!
Once A-Rod found out how much attention his specially marked balls were receiving he decided to draw this thing out as long as possible.
That's a mighty fine double. Atta boy, Curtis!
[54] not a gamer, fails to grind, goes about his business the wrong way, doesn't play the game right.
I must be missing a cliche.
Granderson's SLG% continues to twitch!
Nice hustle..either an error or a Gritneresque double. Two base hit it is!
[56]oh, yeah.. he won't get his uniform dirty, too.
"Whaddaya Say, Al?!" - Judge Smails
let's go, dude. End this thing
[58] Refuses to take it one game at a time, looks past tonight's opponent, and of course, never, ever just tries to make good contact.
[61] He also doesn't look for a good pitch to hit.
[59] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsQ0LX4LZ6c
Anyone ever dominate the screen like this? Classic!
[61] never makes a productive out
Rats.
[62] That was an unusual at bat, because he doesn't go with the pitch, usually.
grrr....three hard hit balls, three outs, no runs.....
It's rare to see a 1-1 game that has been a battle of the bullpens since the second inning.
The way to stop the Yanks from scoring is to let them put two or three guys on with no outs each inning.
[69] Diabolically clever!
Six innings, maybe? Possibly?
this game is Moseleying right along
Gritty, gutsy walk.
Now RUN! (Though Santana looks like he has a gun behind the plate.)
Will the "speedy Brett Gardner" steal a base?
I bet Girardi PH for Curtis, pulls a double switch and moves Swisher into the field.
If its Santana, it must be an axe.
[76] his house is dark and his pots are cold
Swinging bunt!
Paging Marcus Thames, paging Marcus Thames. Marcus Thames, please pick up the nearest courtesy phone, you are being paged.
Come on, Girardi, this is the time to PH. Or to send Gardner. Or to do something!
Gardner! Unfortunately, Curtis has two strikes, but maybe he can make contact here...
Meh.
OK! We need a go ahead wild pitch here. Why break up the oh-fer in hits in scoring position?
STEAL HOME!!!!
Cap'n!!!
Yeah. A hit (and from Jetes)!
unreal! hit the runner - haven't seen that in a dog's age.
I'm a bit surprised Girardi doesn't go with Logan against the lefty right now. In any case, at 75+ pitches, Moseley got to be about done.
Wow...I've never seen the runner hit by a batted ball in MLB before! That crafty Moseley!!
Followed by the old screaming line out caught double play. Moseley is going deeeeep into his arsenal. I say let him finish the game!
Goddamn. 2 night's in a row thanks to Robbie's Rocket!
[90] That should be nights. D'oh! Still love me some Robbie.
Choo'd up at first.
Fucking Awesome!!
Finally...I thought there was an invisible shield tonight for HRs.
Nice. The two run lead distracts the mind from our two long national nightmares, #600 and the 8th inning.
[94] Only for A-Rod. ; )
A-Rod might get another shot in the ninth.
Something unwholesome about a "Cold Hard Blast" of the night. (a Coors tie in, for those not watching YES)
That walk gets ARod another AB. Very gutty and scrappy, Gritner.
Ooooh, and old-fashioned submarine style righty reliever.
I knew Brains would do something good tonight.
If ARod heats up, we could have THREE 30/100 guys. How often doe that happen?
Maybe this is why old-fashioned, submariner type RH relievers are rare.
[102] Like never? Mays, McCovey, Alou?
All in all, a nice game for Jeter.
That was ugly.
Oye Como Va!
Ouch. This pitcher for the Indians is dangerous.
Just WOW!

VIERA, Fla. -- Former major leaguer Orlando Hernandez has made his minor league debut for the Washington Nationals' team in the rookie-level Gulf Coast League.
The 44-year-old Hernandez gave up one run and two hits in one inning for the GCL Nationals in their 3-2 victory over the Florida Marlins' affiliate Thursday. Hernandez pitched the sixth inning.
After Cano's HR, all these runs came with 2 outs,
Heck, he was 44 in 1998
Ok, if Teix gets on here and...ok, he's on.
Like I was saying, if Alex doesn't hit one here, off this scrub, he never will.
[110] What? Cano's homer was this inning?
[102] It's fairly rare, no doubt, but in 1996 both the mariners and indians did it. I didn't have the energy to check many other teams.
I could go for some stat padding here.
take out the trash, Al.
Joe Smith, must be feeling that twitch in the lowest part of his torso at the moment.
How many times has ARod come up with the bases loaded ?
All right, close enough.
[111] Hahahahhahah!
Whoo-hoo. Alex may get one more at bat. Unless Joe yanks him.
Wow.... around the order with 2 outs?
So, let Moseley finish the game? I'm only half joking.
[121] Probably with the bases loaded. ; )
Oh my God, that's so fucking bush.
why is jarhead joe throwing robertson in a blowout? why, joe, why?
All Hail Dustin Moseley! He'll get another turn after tonight.
Yikes!
Josh Hamilton: .363 .407 .637 1.045
Leads the league with 143 Hits and has 23/74
Amazing year.
[122] I'm talking 8th and 9th inning. : )
[124] I'll be just as happy when Arod has Manny in his rearview mirror.
[126] I'm sure it has something to do "getting him some work." On the bright side, it does leave the eighth inning for Joba...
[128] He finally recovered his swing back from his unworldly Home Run Derby performance at OYS.
[127] Yes indeed. It was refreshing to send out a spot starter who was not, for a change, Unlucky™.
Swish-Choo.
Gazuntite.
But PH here?

Can we score 10 runs tonight?
Man, they certainly murdered the shit out of Joe Smith tonight. Definitely an enjoyable game so far.
Am I really late to the party, or has everyone missed the opportunity to point out that there's an opening in LaPorta's swing?
[129] I'm kinda hoping that somehow Gehrig's Grand Slam record can stand. It is remarkable on how long it's been on the books, and out of 499 total HRs. How many more HRs and GSs would Gehrig have hit if his career wasn't shortened?
Need one more baserunner.
Curtis looks not too bad v. RHP.

Call me Nostralarmis!
[135] [141] And modest, too.
; )
Man, Cleveland Sucks.
Cripes, ARod might just get two more ABs.
Com'on Juan! Make it a baker's dozen.
Hahahahah...ARod is gonna bat with the bases juiced AGAIN!! Unreal.
Fucking unbelievable, huh, MP? lol.....
Wow, this has really turned into an asswhipping.
Just hope that some of it can carry into this next series.
And they can yak about A Rod being "stuck" on 599, but I am a big fan of what he's been doing at the plate since 599.
That looked like a cookie, and Arod missed it.
That's OK, Arod, get 'em next inning.
Garbage time for Chan Ho Park. Actually, Shelley Duncan v. Park could be amusing.
[148] Ok, not so much that last at bat, but these guys have got to be tired from all this swinging.
Duncan now has 40 K in 111 PA. Awesome.
Fricken Drum to go with that fricken racist team name, and that fricken racist cartoon logo, fricken midges, are we done in Cleveland?
Swish strikes out against his counterpart!
Adios, gang. I always get a kick out of non-pitchers pitching. Especially Mitre. : )
That may be the funniest story I've heard Flaherty tell.
Oh Jesus Christ, just throw the damn ball over the plate.
The Thames 3B experiment is amusing...for now.
[159] I'm just getting in. Why is Thames playing 3b?
I can't believe the Yankees will have to bring another pitcher to get this last out.
For the record, I did find Thames' play very amusing. But I'm starting to get annoyed with Park.
[160] The Yankees scored a million runs in the 7th and 8th, so Girardi emptied the bench; that included pulling ARod after letting him take one last set of hacks in the 9th.
Now I am not entirely clear how that gives ARod any meaningful rest...maybe they are really looking at whether Thames can play an emergency IF position. Right now, the jury says no.
[162] I imagine in the old days, like the 80s, when teams carried only 10 or 11 pitchers, there would have been one more spare IF to throw out there for the 9th.
Well, that was fun. Now lets take two in Tampa.
[163] He actually fielded the ball fairly well. He just threw it like a left fielder. If you think you can work that out, it might not be so bad.
Goodbye, Cleveland.
[163] I would hope not, twas Thames' first game @ 3b :D
I did see the runs score, I showed up @ a local watering hole as Grandy came to bat with bases loaded.
[164] I guess with a 12 man staff there's no need to throw a spare IF out there for mopup? Did CLE put a position player on the mound?
[165] Winning tomorrow is key.
[168] Yes, they did...Andy Marte pitched the ninth. With regard to your point about the 12 man staff and position players pitching, I wonder if it really does happen less frequently? Since the tendency is to use more pitchers for fewer innings, my guess is that the occasional Swisher episode happens about as frequently as it used to.
[166] He looked pretty bad a couple batters earlier, on the ball that found its way through the hole on the left side.
However, I am all for roster flexibility. If Thames can be used at 3B, his stock goes up, for sure.
I see absolutely no reason to believe he can play 3B. As a converted infielder who moved to the outfield, I can attest that unless you're one of those "play all eight positions" freaks, you develop an outfield arm - one that is very hard to recalibrate to the infield.
