Hey, Yanks just need to win two games to reach the playoffs this weekend?

Things aren’t all that bad, after all.

The Yankees damned well better hope the Wild Card beings them a World Championship.

3) too bad...it was the theme of the day!

5 monkeypants   ~  Sep 24, 2010 7:29 pm

Hoo boy. Maybe swisher should have rested tonight.

6 rbj   ~  Sep 24, 2010 7:30 pm

Ugh

7 Just Fair   ~  Sep 24, 2010 7:33 pm

I was annoyed my wife's couple friends was on its way over to our house until now. Fucking Jed Lowery. Fucking Bollocks! Good night to sit on the porch.

8 rbj   ~  Sep 24, 2010 7:34 pm

Alright Yankees, let's load the bases and score only one run. We know you can do it.

9 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 24, 2010 7:45 pm

[1] Dude.. Hughes has already pitched too many innings. He's pitched around 100 the last 2 years, and 146 THREE years ago,
Even with just 2 more starts, he will be around 175... not including a bunch in the PS.

It's a smart move.
I wish they had skipped him 1 or 2 more times.

10 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 7:50 pm

Lovely ... I step out it's 0-0.

I come back, it's 3-0.

Ugh.

11 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 7:55 pm

3-1!!!

12 Just Fair   ~  Sep 24, 2010 7:55 pm

Someone's trying tonight. Atta boy, Curtis!

13 Just Fair   ~  Sep 24, 2010 7:57 pm

The Gardner ab, that's the fastball command that Phil has completely lacked this year. If and when he ever finds it again he'll be damn far better.

14 rbj   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:03 pm

I went upstairs for one minute, how in hell did two Red Sox get on

15 rbj   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:03 pm

Oh great.

16 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:06 pm

Ca-NO?

CA-YES!!!!!

17 rbj   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:10 pm

Oh jeebus.

18 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:10 pm

Sigh.

I'd to see some Brackman, please!

19 monkeypants   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:11 pm

Playing infield in here is dubious.

20 Shaun P.   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:12 pm

Yahoo! says all these hits were to "shallow" parts of the field, except Papi's single to second. Does that mean these are just bloops and bleeders falling in?

In any case, the Yanks are facing Beckett, so I am not concerned.

21 monkeypants   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:12 pm

Infield in = mute.

22 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:12 pm

Blech.

23 monkeypants   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:13 pm

Time to pull Andy, and all of the starters, so everyone can get some rest.

24 monkeypants   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:14 pm

20) most looked pretty solid to me, but to be honest I'm notnpaying close attention.

25 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:14 pm

FUCK.

THE.

PITCH.

COUNT.

Glad to see how much these games matter ...

26 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:15 pm

[20] Most were hit solidly to *very* solidly.

27 Shaun P.   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:18 pm

Ah. It happens.

28 monkeypants   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:25 pm

Ok, i'm outta here. Reruns of bob newhart await at 9:30.

29 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:28 pm

Everyone here is OK with the Wildcard... right?
Right???

30 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:36 pm

Jeebus ... what a disasterbacle.

I WANT BRACKMAN!!!

31 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:36 pm

[31] Failing that, gimme some Fat Sanchez!

32 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:37 pm

OK.... Lets change the subject.
Bud Selig open to expanding
Bud Selig wants to explore expanding the postseason this winter.
Selig says that Major League baseball has fewer playoff teams than the other major sports and thinks it's time to discuss ways to increase the number of postseason.

At issue here is the already long length of the season, which has us playing in March and Novenber.

I suggested going to 4 game and (mostly) 5 game series.
We play intra-league teams 19 games and the other divisions 10 games, so this works perfectly. 2 Home/2 Away series intra-league and 1 Home/1 Away series otherwise. Obviously, this would not effect InterLeague play.

This would save a SHITLOAD of travel and MANY days.
Teams could have more Off days, better get-away day schedules, and time to play rained-out games and STILL save many days off the length of the season.

Isn't this a fine idea?
Yes I know, fans would be a bit more limited in seeing opposing teams/players, but it still seems well worth the tradeoff.

Waddayathink?

33 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:42 pm

Ouch.

34 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:43 pm

Well, at least Lowell getting hit interrupted the rampant inanity of Michael Kay's Cy Young "analysis" ...

35 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:47 pm

The Red Sox are a better team than the Yankees. That's right, I've said it! Looking at what they have done with all their injuries and the stink-bomb seasons from Beckett and Lackey..really impressive. Francona has done an amazing job. I feel sick for saying it! But I believe it's true.

The Yankees end of season-run here has been a huge disappointment, they'll be lucky if they make it to a rematch with the Phillies.

36 monkeypants   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:50 pm

35) Think: rest.

37 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 8:51 pm

Ooooooh ... Meat Tray!

That's allllllllllllmost as interesting as Brackman or Fat Sanchez!

Blech.

38 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 9:02 pm

It's ONLY 8!!!!

39 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 9:05 pm

ONLY 7!!!

40 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Sep 24, 2010 9:08 pm

[39] See! Beckett REALLY stinks this year and the Sox were still competitive..I hate them!

41 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 9:20 pm

[40] Eh, "hate" is for fans of lesser teams ...

If I cared what the Red Sox did ... I'd be a Red Sox fan.

42 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 9:30 pm

SWISH SWAT!!!

NICK THE STICK!!!

43 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 9:35 pm

I'm not feeling a A-bomb ... just a nice double or something like that ...

44 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 9:36 pm

[44] Well, I'm 1 for 2 in my predictions ...

Meanwhile, let's see all the rest of the suckers come back on board for the Big Win!

45 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 9:40 pm

Of course, Coffee Joe will probably bring in Gaudin to pitch here and piss the game away, but it's good to see the team scratching and clawing back into this one ...

46 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 24, 2010 9:42 pm

Lets see.....
5 Yankee HRs, 2 from ARod
45 comments.....
Let's see... that makes the BBC/YHRs ratio about....

47 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 9:47 pm

48 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Sep 24, 2010 9:49 pm

[44] I'm back on board!!

49 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 9:57 pm

Eeeps.

Well, that's okay ... it'll just make the comeback against Private Pyle all the more sweet!

50 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 10:01 pm

Lord FUCKING Charles!

51 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 10:06 pm

Alright boys ... time to show Private Pyle that "world of shit!"

SWEEP THE LEG!

52 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 10:10 pm

Well, NO, Derek ... NO!

53 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 24, 2010 10:12 pm

And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is why Jeter sucks this year.
That pitch was never anywhere near the strike zone.

54 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 10:14 pm

At the VERY least ... 2 HRs for Teix tonite is VERY, VERY good!

55 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 10:18 pm

Unfortunately, I do not feel the power of Ca-Yes!

=(

56 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 10:20 pm

JESUS CHRIST, THAT WAS IN THE RH BATTER'S BOX!

FUCK.

YOU.

BLUE.

57 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Sep 24, 2010 10:23 pm

[56] Awful, Gameday had that wayyyyy outside!!!!

58 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 10:23 pm

Well, it was fun to believe while it lasted ...

Though, who knows what the at bat would have looked like if Blue hadn't called the Ball that was a FULL 6 inches outside a strike ...

I welcome out Robot Umpire Overlords ...

59 JeremyM   ~  Sep 24, 2010 10:24 pm

Well, that was more suck. Hopefully all of these lost battles pay off.

60 monkeypants   ~  Sep 24, 2010 10:24 pm

i watched the start of the game. Then I rested for a while. I came back and watched Papelbon maintain his 9.00 ERA at Yankee Stadium yet still get the save. Now I can rest again.

61 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 24, 2010 10:25 pm

[57] It was on the chalk of the RH Batter's Box.

UnFUCKINGbelievably AWFUL call ...

But, you know, the "human element" ... it's important to preserve it in the game ..

62 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 24, 2010 10:26 pm

Well, that was spirited.

I really don't want to hear any more about "poor Alby" though

63 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Sep 24, 2010 10:27 pm

[61] A disgrace..you CANNOT give pitchers a free strike int he 9th inning of a close game..how many more times do we have to see this?? I'm going to console myself with White Sox & Angels on tv here...wait, that is not exactly thrilling baseball..

64 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 24, 2010 10:31 pm

So, Nova vs Lester.

65 Jon DeRosa   ~  Sep 24, 2010 10:49 pm

They really hit the crap out of the ball tonight. Keep that up and things will be ok.

On the other hand, the red sox have a good chance to sweep this series, and if the yanks don't win some games in toronto, that last meaningless series all of a sudden becomes epic.

66 jjmerlock   ~  Sep 24, 2010 10:55 pm

Albaladejo SUCKS.

Just like Melancon SUCKED.

It's amazing how long it takes some people to realize that although statistics can be useful, they must be used wisely.

If you can't see with your own two eyes that those two dudes have NOTHING to offer at the major league level, forget the eye chart, go see a proctologist.

Sixty six comments. See Yanks? You pack it in, so do we.
