There's no doubt as to Stubblefield's greatness, but I always saw that break as more proof of James Brown's genius. Cause he knew it when he heard it and he made it happen. What would the world of hip-hop be without that loop?? Haha. Well the world of late 80s/early 90s hip-hop anyway
[1] ooh, don't forget John "Jabo" Starks! he and clyde stubblefield just killed it, man! i teach some james brown grooves to my students. just amazingly brilliant stuff.
[0] alex - quite an honor if you were mentioning me in the post. but i'm not sure it's me. i'll feel like a tool if i'm misinterpreting it, but... there's been a decent amount of confusion about my screen name here over the years.
there's no "the" or "alarm" in there! it's just a one word name: "thelarmis". think "thelonious" and say it that way. it's "themis" and "lars" put together. bestowed upon me by an old, wise bandleader about a decade and a half ago, or so. (long story).
anyway, if you were thinking about me - thanks! : )
btw, i've laid down most all the tracks for my percussion piece entitled "Shadow Games", in tribute to Todd Drew.
off to teach... hope to come home tonite to a playoff bound Yankees team!!!
i feel bad/weird, 'coz i've posted about it a few times, but it usually seems to clear it up for someone, so that's cool. : )
there's actually a middle and last name that go with the stage sobriquet, but i generally just stick with "thelarmis". sounds like some strange skin disease you can contract in greece. oh well, for some reason it stuck, so i just go with it...
anyway, i have to head to work. hope it's a happy banter later!!!

[2] You know, I've been wondering if it was "Thelarmis" or "The Larmis" for a long time now, no shit. Thanks for the clarification.
[3] haha, that's awesome! yeah, it's neither. : )
