Thank you Alex, for preserving a place where we can all let our inner Al Swearengen curse freely!!!

=)

Roy F***in' Halladay!

3 randym77   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:15 pm

I hope we don't have to face Halladay, if he's pitching like that.

4 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:18 pm

[3] He's got his post season no no out of the way.

What's the Yankees record against Roy?

5 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:23 pm

[4] Halladay against the Yanks, lifetime:

18-7, 2.98 ERA, 253.1 IP, 229 HA, 56 W, 195K

Basically, he kicks their asses.

6 randym77   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:25 pm

[4] I dunno, but the Reds have the best offense in the NL.

7 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:25 pm

[3] I'll sign up for it right now.

8 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:26 pm

Now, I'm AMPED. LET'S GO YANKEES!!!!!

9 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:27 pm

[3] Well, he has nowhere to go but down

10 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:27 pm

9) Plus, for the Reds is just counts as one loss. They win on Friday night and they've done their job.

11 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:28 pm

[5] Thanks. Gulp.

12 randym77   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:29 pm

[9] I dunno. He did walk Jay Bruce. It wasn't a perfect game! ;-)

13 mjpucci   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:30 pm

Evening, all. I logged in a bit during the regular season, but I'm back in force for the postseason.

Halladay probably began a HOF campaign with his season. At 33, he's probably too far away from 300 to make it, but with a probable second Cy Young Award, a possible championship here, and baseball immortality tonight, everyone now knows what AL East opponents have known for years.

14 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:31 pm

My suggestions for the Yankees:
1) Give Jeter the TAKE sign until he has 2 strikes.
2) Have Grandy and Cano wear identical top hats, and fake glasses and Mustaches. When Grandy comes up, sneak Cano in there instead.
3) Have Posada look only for slders.
4) Have Gritner crowd the plate and give him $10,000 everytime he gets hit by the pitch
5) Tell ARod to try and go the other way on everything

Patience... patience... patience.
Make the pitchers work.

Dear Mo, as we embark on this autumn journey, please bless us with all the fruits of your time-earned wisdom. Help us stay calm in the face of the Fundamentals Storm of Twindom, help us stand firm against the Punto Playinggamerightwayness of the scions of Gardenhire. In the name of you our lord Mariano we pray, AAAAAA-MEN!

Let's get it ON!! GO GO CC!! Let's Go YAN-KEES!

16 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:32 pm

[14] 1) The Brett Gardner strategy, I see.

17 mjpucci   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:32 pm

No matter what happens this week, at least we're spared Chip Caray. That's a moral victory right there.

18 randym77   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:33 pm

[10] Yeah, and I think that was part of their strategy. Starting Volquez was a high-risk, high-reward gamble. He's always been a bit inconsistent, and has been even more so this year (coming back from TJ surgery). If he has a good night, he has a chance to beat Halladay. If not...well, it's not like anyone else in their rotation is likely to beat Doc, either.

19 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:33 pm

[10] Honestly, I'm not sure I'd want to be Roy Oswalt on Friday

20 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:35 pm

[16] You don't see the Jeter strategy?

21 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:36 pm

Hoss..... Hoss.... Hossssssssssssssssss!
Dammit! Are you there?!?!?!?!?!?!???????

22 randym77   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:36 pm

[19] Unless someone's offered him a bulldozer.

23 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:37 pm

This voice might get annoying.

24 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:39 pm

damn. LET'S GO YANKEES!!

25 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:40 pm

I'm starting to get that terrible feeling that playing for the Wild Card was a huge mistake.

26 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:41 pm

Jesus, when did James Woods start announcing baseball games???

27 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:42 pm

Well, there we go

28 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:43 pm

the home team in the last 2 games has thrown 10 consecutive no-hit innings ... :-(

29 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:43 pm

For those waiting for Jeter to turn it around in the post season, his first AB was a bad sign. He swung at two pitches well out of the zone, which was the reason for his struggles in the regular season.

30 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:44 pm

[17] Yes.

BTW, Orel & Jon Miller are doing the game on ESPN radio. Dunno if there's a time delay.

31 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:45 pm

[29] Liriano is also no slouch as a pitcher.

Its nice to be back in the postseason . . . looking forward to being here religiously with all of you!

32 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:45 pm

Decent at bat by Swisher, though he swung at ball four. Otherwise, blah.

33 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:45 pm

Cano has been our MVP, but Swisher is not that far behind. He consistantly has good ABs.

Jeter is pressing already. Swung at a bad pitch for strike 2, and tried to cream the ball when he struck out.

34 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:46 pm

Well left work early to watch live and chat here with you guys. Soooo anxious!

35 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:46 pm

the announcer sounds like he is inebriated, constipated, or both

36 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:46 pm

I love how the TBS strikezone shows you in real time how wrong the umps are.

37 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:48 pm

ok ... that was definitely a fair ball

38 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:48 pm

What's the matter with Span? He shortened his swing with 2 strikes instead of trying to cream the ball.

39 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:49 pm

Great man in scoring position for Mauer. I'm terrified already.

40 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:49 pm

i'll take that. he could have just stole second against our battery.

41 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:49 pm

sacrifice. Bunch of fucking pussies.

42 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:49 pm

[35] Ernie's cool...but he's mostly an NBA guy, so its odd to hear him here. He's a pro though, obviously a step up from The Chip Experience

43 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:49 pm

bear down CC!

44 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:49 pm

[41] Yeah, in the 1st? With your #2 hitter? Hey, they love the fundamentals in Minnesota.

45 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:50 pm

35) Really odd. Just doesn't seem right.

46 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:51 pm

[45] Who's announcing?

47 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:51 pm

Onions. Now, no SOUP for Delmon Fucking Young.

48 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:51 pm

NICE!

49 mjpucci   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:51 pm

Smoltz: "Both of these pitchers like to throw Strike 1 and get ahead."

Oh boy. It's going to be a long series.

50 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:52 pm

[41] HA! awesome.

51 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:52 pm

Whew.

53 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:52 pm

54 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:52 pm

Oh so smooth.

55 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:52 pm

Wow, Cano flashing the leather already! C'mon A-Rod, crank one.

56 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:53 pm

Okay. Pretty good inning for the big guy

57 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:53 pm

Nice play by Cano!

58 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:53 pm

ROBBIE! I love robbie.

59 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:53 pm

I see I wasn't live. oops

60 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:53 pm

Awesome ... the announcers feed on the already shitty MLB "postseason tv" is 20 seconds behind the actual game.

Just Fucking Great.

61 mjpucci   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:54 pm

It's amazing, but that's like a routine play for Robbie. No doubt whatsoever he'd make it.

62 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:54 pm

[52] He's not bad, just takes some getting used to

63 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:56 pm

A-Rod clealy can't handle the pressure

64 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:57 pm

Hmm.

65 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:58 pm

Damnit, Liriano looks on. This could be a really tough game.

66 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:59 pm

ok...who the fuck was wearing crocs in the Twins dugout??

67 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 8:59 pm

[63] Wasn't his name legally changed to A-Fraud? I think I read that in a book somewhere.

68 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:00 pm

nice at bat for thames

69 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:00 pm

Nice AB by Marcus. Alex and Robbie didn't have good swings, Marcus smashed a foul ball. Good patience.

70 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:01 pm

Yo Liriano, maybe button your jersey up...a little bit.

71 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:02 pm

I think we might have a bit of a floating zone tonight

72 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:02 pm

Nice little scrappy hit.

73 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:02 pm

Nice hitting Jorgie. Way to go with the ball. Does TBS not have a pitch count display?

74 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:02 pm

Well, at least we know we're not getting no hit

75 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:03 pm

Damnit, Grandy smashed that, but right at someone.

76 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:03 pm

Fongoole, and he hit that well too.

77 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:03 pm

I gotta try to make a road trip out to this park next year, I'm really into it.

fuckin eh...got some good swings in on him though. They'll break through eventually I think

78 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:06 pm

Its impossible to not like Jim Thome

79 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:07 pm

That was kind of scary.

80 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:07 pm

yes folks...that was clearly intentional

81 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:08 pm

shit

82 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:08 pm

[78] seriously one of my favorite players of all time

83 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:08 pm

I wonder if Thome can steal on the Yankees

84 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:09 pm

[78] Pavano, on the other hand. . .

85 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:09 pm

Michael Cuddyer epitomizes the Twins? Terrible fake tans?

86 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:09 pm

christ

87 randym77   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:09 pm

88 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:09 pm

Fuck!

89 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:09 pm

Uh Oh...

90 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:10 pm

And there I just had my first "you're posting too quickly" of the postseason.

91 felix holt   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:10 pm

That one fucking hurt. Fuck.

92 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:10 pm

Just a reminder. If we hadn't stopped trying in late August and early September, we probably could have lined Sabathia up on normal rest.

93 monkeypants   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:10 pm

Inauspicious.

94 monkeypants   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:11 pm

[92] Yes, but would everyone look so fresh and well rested??

95 mjpucci   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:11 pm

Why is Smoltz talking about a "cat and mouse game"? Sabathia left a flat fastball down the middle. Seems pretty obvious.

96 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:12 pm

has Corey Koskie really been gone 6 years? well I feel old

97 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:13 pm

[95]

That is one very very large cat then.

98 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:13 pm

[94] touche.

99 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:14 pm

It was NOT a great throw, John.

104 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:15 pm

Got to get this out here. No three run inning horseshit.

105 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:16 pm

where is Emma ... her brother is up

106 mjpucci   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:16 pm

Let's stay positive: the Yanks fell behind 2-0 to Minny last year in Game 1, then scored 7 straight.

107 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:16 pm

Sanity prevails.

108 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:16 pm

Okay. They took a 2-0 lead in game one last year.

109 bartap   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:17 pm

This is NOT what I wanted for my birthday. The Yankees need to get to Liriano in the next two innings because otherwise I think he gets real comfortable and it winds up being a very long night for us.

110 jeaner   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:18 pm

Last year, yes. But team era was a lot better and rotation was much stronger.
Count me as a nervous nellie tonight.

111 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:19 pm

How about a little drag bunt here?

112 felix holt   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:19 pm

[109] Happy birthday. I hope, for your sake and mine, you have a good one.

113 mjpucci   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:21 pm

Also, Swish, don't bunt again. Thanks.

Frankly, I would have been happy with a good bunt.

147 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:28 pm

150 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:28 pm

151 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:29 pm

Smoltz thinks Tex needs to aim for a nice little dribbler down the line here

152 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:29 pm

[145] Agreed. With no out and top of the order up, I don't want him going unless he gets a good read. Mauer is no slouch.

153 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:29 pm

[145] They need to make that a top priority for next season.

154 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:29 pm

TAKE THE WALK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

155 bartap   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:29 pm

[125] When that reluctant speedster was Bernie, we were ok with it. Gardner doesn't hit nearly as well.

156 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:30 pm

Was that ball 4?

157 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:30 pm

167 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:31 pm

[152] I think Brett Gardner being unable to get an early read on pitchers has been a consistent trend with him and probably the biggest flaw in his game.

168 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:31 pm

173 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:32 pm

Now I'm annoyed.

174 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:32 pm

that was an ugly at bat. clutch-rod looked uncomfortable.

175 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:33 pm

!%$#@^&%^$%#&*&*^$%#%@!

176 mjpucci   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:33 pm

For all the Yankees' problems this year, their inability to cash in with RISP may be their final undoing.

177 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:33 pm

i actually do think it's real good news that we drove lirianos pitch count up. he's going to be tough to hit hard. so if we don't manage to get much off of him the next best thing is to start making their bullpen work.

178 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:33 pm

Liriano at 57 pitches after 3..we'll crush their bullpen. I am confident!

179 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:34 pm

Man, that sucked.

180 vockins   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:35 pm

Jesus, three pitches?

181 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:35 pm

The Yankees have made the two early mistakes (Sabathia hitting Thome and Gardner not going to third on Young's bobble) and paid both times.

The early signs are not looking so good for the Yankees. Arod has been going out of the zone, and Tex still not coming through with the big hit.

182 JeremyM   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:35 pm

Hate seeing A-Rod expand the zone to try to make up for Teix's continue worthlessness at the plate.

183 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:36 pm

Oh god

184 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:36 pm

fuck you Craig

185 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:37 pm

[181] Gardner not getting to third one way or another was huge for the Twins

186 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:38 pm

[185] we get it

187 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:38 pm

This is not looking good so far. Sigh, hold them here CC.

188 felix holt   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:38 pm

Fuck you, Twins. And fuck you, Minnesota. Fucking bitches. Take your stupid fucking accent and choke on it, you fucking bastards.

189 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:39 pm

[186] I'm fucking pissed. This is a problem that should have been addressed months ago.

190 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:40 pm

That pitch was up up up...not good.

191 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:40 pm

Killer curveball....

192 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:40 pm

193 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:41 pm

Hey, look what happens when you run a little bit.

194 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:41 pm

wow, baserunning. whats that?

FUCK YOU ORLANDO HUDSON, YOU FUCKING FUCKER.

197 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:42 pm

Great play by Tex. Why was no oen covering 3rd? Alex! Wake the fuck up.

Ugh, sloppy ass playing all around costs the team another run. That's inexcusable.

202 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:42 pm

Posada ... glue factory as a defensive catcher :-(

203 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:42 pm

OH that's fucking wunnerful.

204 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:43 pm

Right off Posada's glove.....

205 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:43 pm

that sucked. really, the consquence of playing posada there. total flub on his part.

206 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:43 pm

Well ... *this* is a "load of bollocks".

Glad I didn't go out to a bar for this one ...

207 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:43 pm

The Yankees are playing the same sloppy baseball they had been all September. Hopefully, the organization learns its lesson.

208 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:43 pm

A Rod caught sleeping. Posada looking like a fucking statue.

209 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:43 pm

[202] Is Montero ready? Couldn't be worse, stick Jorge at DH.

210 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:43 pm

"You don't think they want this game?" As opposed to the other playoff teams that just want to try hard and go out for pizza later. Ugh.

211 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:44 pm

I had completely forgotten that Posada was due to let a ball get by him

212 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:44 pm

*That* was a nice pitch.

213 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:45 pm

Two pitchers should never be paired together in the broadcast booth. I like Darling even if his Yalieness comes out at times. Smotlz is a fucking dolt.

214 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:45 pm

[207] What lesson is that? Don't sign sloppy players???

215 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:45 pm

Also, time to cue the questions about having Sabathia go on 8 days rest. He definitely does not look sharp tonight.

216 JeremyM   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:45 pm

Hudson schooled Gardner there. Well, this is what we've been seeing for a month- sloppy baseball.

217 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:45 pm

There's still plenty of time, folks. BTW, I don't buy the idea that the Rays are done at all. They will win that series somehow. They're inscrutable.

218 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:46 pm

[213] Darling is usually a very good analyst.

219 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:46 pm

So, does Girardi respond by doubling down on "anchor the man to first base" strategy, or do we start seeing Jorge Posada/Marcus Thames hit and runs?

220 JeremyM   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:46 pm

[217] No way can you count the Rays out yet.

OK guys, get some runs.

221 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:46 pm

come on, get at least one back here

222 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:46 pm

[214] Don't take the foot off the gas because you don't care about how you make the post season.

223 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:47 pm

[215] Taking the foot off the gas earlier in the month was a stroke of genius on so many levels.

224 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:47 pm

oh please there are no lessons to learn yet. this game isn't even close to over let alone the series.

225 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:47 pm

Now, do they make Lirano look like Koufax or do they actually keep the pressure on?

226 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:47 pm

This team is really, really pressing... and it's ugly.
We can't afford to swing at balls anymore.

227 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:48 pm

[214] once you let up it can be hard to get going again

228 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:48 pm

[222] eh, the 2000 Yankees played September like Jerry's kids and won. same with the '05 White Sox and '06 Cards. September ultimately doesn't have a whole lot to do with October.

229 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:48 pm

[222] And really, Girardi is way too tight to *really* take the foot off the gas, so who the hell knows what that clubhouse was like.

230 mjpucci   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:48 pm

[224] True, but the Yankees are already making the kind of mental mistakes the Twins made last year. And we saw how this movie ended all too often during September.

231 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:50 pm

OMGOMGOMG!!!

John Smoltz *IS* JAMES WOODS!!!!

232 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:50 pm

I will admit, every time the Yankees look bad in the first few innings of Game 1, I start thinking about 2002 and 2006.

233 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:50 pm

ok listen, I think Gardenhire is a totally fine manager...but lets calm down here.

234 randym77   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:50 pm

[209] Montero had a rough start this year, but was playing well by the end. Scouts complained about his defense, but he looked great compared to Chad Moeller (at least to my eye).

And yeah, how bad could he be? The only one on the team who has more errors than Posada is Cervelli.

235 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:50 pm

Everyone is expanding the strike zone.

236 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:51 pm

[228] [222] Indeed, Jay Jaffe did a study of that a couple of years back and determined there is almost zero correlation between how a team finishes out the season and how far they go in the postseason.

237 JeremyM   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:51 pm

Guys, work the friggin count here, don't extend this outing.

238 yankintexas   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:51 pm

Looks like they have some plans tonight and want to get this game over with.

239 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:51 pm

[229] He can say that he's trying to win all he wants. His actions did not match up at all.

240 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:51 pm

[236] I think he only looked at 10 games. The Yankees went into cruise control with about 3 weeks.

241 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:52 pm

The big issues here is the low pitch count for this inning. liriano going deep into the game is an issue.

242 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:52 pm

Ehhh, like a wise man once said, "Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue ..."

243 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:53 pm

I really like the TBS pitch graphics. I look forward to seeing many a Mo cutter darting on the overhead one.

244 felix holt   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:53 pm

Fuck.

245 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:53 pm

Okay, now Posada fucking OWES us a 2 run HR later. At least!

246 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:53 pm

Not a very inspiring inning to say the least.

247 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:53 pm

Not awesome, fellas.

248 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:53 pm

Well, we lost game one to the Twins in 03 and 04.

249 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:54 pm

granderson and gardner can reset the tone when they leadoff next inning. hopefully they do just that.

250 joe   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:55 pm

[231] I think that its Ron Darlin in the booth that sounds like James Woods

251 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:55 pm

[234] "And yeah, how bad could he be? The only one on the team who has more errors than Posada is Cervelli."

Oy. We need to turn to Jesus.

252 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:56 pm

nice! twins losing patience will help.

253 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:57 pm

is girardi talking at 150 MPH?

254 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:57 pm

When asked about Montero's defense, one scout responded, "Jesus is just alright."

255 yankintexas   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:58 pm

[253] I don't know but apparently you can't talk strategy at that speed.

256 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:58 pm

[254] they are so going to hell

257 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:58 pm

[236] 2000 a.d. Yankees shat the bed the last month but wone.

258 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:58 pm

[255] ha yeah, that was a strange comment i thought.

259 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:59 pm

[238] They got tickets for Morris Day perhaps..

260 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:59 pm

Man, my Banter was inaccessilble until now. I am not liking this game. Did anything interesting happen in the earlier games? ; ) I know, I know.

261 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 9:59 pm

[258] I assume he meant that he's not going to talk strategy on the air.

262 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:00 pm

[259] no Jerome?

263 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:00 pm

[261] yeah that makes sense. it wasn't how he said it exactly but he was talking fast so maybe he was all worked up and the words came out weird.

264 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:00 pm

better cc!

265 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:00 pm

CC needed that

266 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:01 pm

So.... 2 of the 3 runs are due to a HBP and a passed ball?

267 mjpucci   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:02 pm

[266] And CC not covering first, allowing the runner to move to 3rd base, setting up the passed ball.

And the Yankees cost themselves a run when Gardner failed to advance on a misplayed ball to left.

268 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:02 pm

[256] Just a joke. It's a song, famously recorded by the Byrds and Doobie Brothers. Just trying to lighten the mood around here.

269 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:04 pm

I do believe my upstairs neighbor (and his fiancee) are at this very moment scoring more than the Yankees ...

(excuse me .... could you perhaps put a CARPET on the floor?!)

270 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:04 pm

[263] I'm not sure what difference it would have made if he said it was called from the bench, but its Girardi and everything is always a big secret anyway, so thats what i took from it

271 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:04 pm

Please take a strike.....

272 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:04 pm

274 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:06 pm

[269] Nice to know SOMEONE is getting past 2nd base....

275 randym77   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:07 pm

[267] CC tried to cover first. He just couldn't get over there in time. The man is immense, and not exactly speedy. I think he might lose to a Molina brother in a footrace.

276 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:07 pm

Gardner runs and bunts like Posada catches. Fucking pathetic.

277 seamus   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:07 pm

[308] I don't think in '02 the problem was them being flat (they led games 2 and 3), just that the Angels refused to stay dead.

'06 they were just flat.

333 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:30 pm

[322] well...yeah. '02 was just that no one at the time realized how good the Angels really were. That Tigers team sucked though.

334 jeaner   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:30 pm

that's a good thames vs liriano stat
well, it would be if it included a total number of at bats

335 knuckles   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:30 pm

attaboy
now for Thames to show why Girardi smallsamplesized him into the lineup

336 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:30 pm

Holy crud, threw another one past him. That's onions.

337 felix holt   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:30 pm

Thank God for Robbie Cano.

Now it's your turn, Thames.

338 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:30 pm

Man.... Thames missed a pretty fat pitch there....

339 JeremyM   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:31 pm

Not sure what Thames was doing there.

340 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:31 pm

Time for a big hit from Posada

341 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:31 pm

Make up for that run, Jorge.

342 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:32 pm

POSADA OWES US!

343 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:32 pm

just a single Jorge, thats all I'm asking for here

344 jeaner   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:32 pm

Jorge used to be able to get the occasional rbi...

345 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:32 pm

This crowd really thinks everything is a strike.

346 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:33 pm

I'd walk Posada now.

347 JeremyM   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:33 pm

[345] They're pretty bad...

348 felix holt   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:33 pm

YES!

349 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:33 pm

Nice!!

350 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:33 pm

351 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:33 pm

352 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:33 pm

Like I said. Way to go Jorge!

353 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:33 pm

Yowzers. Close.

HOT FUCKIN' DAMN! GO YANKEES!

356 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:34 pm

Another hit with RISP? I know that's against the rules.

357 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:34 pm

[346] You had the right idea (may i say I thought the same thing? I did)

358 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:34 pm

HIP-FUCKING-HIP!

JOR-GE!!!!

359 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:34 pm

And a good AB from Grandy here might be Liriano's last batter!

360 felix holt   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:34 pm

Can the Grandy man?

361 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:34 pm

Let's go Curtis

362 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:34 pm

True Yankee moment...NOW!

363 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:34 pm

C'mon Curtis. Make up for that weak-ass K last time up.

364 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:35 pm

Both of FL's runs were given up with him in the stretch. Holy shit. What analysis. Just throw in he hasn't give up any homers either.

365 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:35 pm

"Caveman Baseball"...I like that

366 felix holt   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:35 pm

370 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:35 pm

FUCK YEAH!!!!! Goddamn Curtis Rules.

371 JeremyM   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:36 pm

Math major Ernie- tied?

What happened there?

372 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:36 pm

Thank you Kevin Long. Signed Curtis Granderson and every Yankee fan.

373 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:36 pm

I had a good feeling about Curtis there. Too bad it didn't go out, for his sake, but hell we got the lead!

374 randym77   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:36 pm

Tied! Liriano at 106 pitches.

375 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:36 pm

"This game is now tied. And the Yankees have taken the lead 4-3"

That's some announcing.

376 felix holt   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:36 pm

Nothing better than postseason manic depression.

377 jeaner   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:36 pm

wow, that ball fooled the outfielders almost as much as it fooled the ace brodacast crew
buh-bye Liriano, go Yankees!

378 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:36 pm

Grandyman can!

379 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:36 pm

Damn Liriano looked so dominant and now he's gone before 6 innings are in the books

380 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:36 pm

I have a feeling this is gonna be a late night

381 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:36 pm

FISTED!

382 JeremyM   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:37 pm

I can't believe how long that thing floated up there. That felt like an eternity- kept waiting for Span to settle under it.

384 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:37 pm

[375] He sounds like he's on a ton of narcotics. "And now for a word from Dilaudid."

385 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:37 pm

I'd like a couple more runs now

386 JeremyM   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:37 pm

Did that hit off the top of the dome? Oh, wait.....

387 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:37 pm

[381] That was about the game, right, not your upstairs neighbor?

388 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:38 pm

[372] Yeah you gotta give it up for the guy. Granderson and Swisher, just some awesome results.

389 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:38 pm

[380] Yup. Tomorrow morning's gonna be a bitch.

390 mjpucci   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:38 pm

Big-league at-bats by the Yankees in this inning against a tiring pitcher. You can't predict baseball, Suzyn.

391 JeremyM   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:38 pm

[385] No kidding. I am so much more calm when they are losing. On edge now.

392 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:38 pm

[387] LOL! Wasn't gonna go there.

393 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:38 pm

[381] Bubbaluh... you are listening to your upstairs neighbors too much...

394 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:39 pm

Let's see some physics defying Gardnering.

395 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:40 pm

[391] Polar opposite here. lol

396 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:40 pm

CC will be PUMPED!

397 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:40 pm

If you're a Twin fan or Twin, you gotta be gulping right about now. Oh shit the announcers stole my thunder

398 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:41 pm

That’s some announcing.

Sterling-esque!!!

399 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:41 pm

[393]

lol ....

400 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:41 pm

[389] lucky for me I have the kind of boss who sends out 800 word emails on why Pavano will "get beaten like a stepchild"

Show/Hide Comments 401-500
401 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:41 pm

Man, Gardner really does have some great ABs

402 JeremyM   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:41 pm

[395] Oh, I'm terrible. I'm dying now.

403 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:41 pm

Well done boys, WELL DONE!

404 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:41 pm

Okay, so a four-spot. We'll take it.

Keep it going CC

405 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:42 pm

I said this before, and maybe its because I'm so used to Chip, but EJ is going a real fine job.

406 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:42 pm

Well, that Granderson triple JUST missed being a HR but on the other hand it also just missed being an inning ending out. So yeah I'll take it.

407 JeremyM   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:43 pm

[399] I can relate, had a neighbor with the squeakiest freaking bed in history. Living downstairs was a bitch.

408 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:43 pm

[400] Nice. Mr. Spacely here is from Down Under so asks me Qs like "those baseballers..how do they play 162 games when so many of them are fat?"

409 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:43 pm

Big inning for CC

410 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:43 pm

[405] I'm a big EJ fan, the NBA on TNT studio show is seriously one of the best things on tv...you don't even have to like the NBA to enjoy it.

411 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:43 pm

[400] Mine's from Minnesota. Though to be fair, he's a decent guy.

412 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:43 pm

Need to CC to lock it down now...let's go BIG man.

413 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:44 pm

Will Orel proclaim that it's important for CC to have a shutdown inning? If he does, I'll sip my beer.

414 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:44 pm

I just don't want a close game in Joba's hands....

415 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:45 pm

Ok CC, 1-2-3 inning here would be perfect.

416 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:45 pm

I miss the YES pitch count box.

417 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:45 pm

Damn nice pitch there. 2 more CC

418 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:45 pm

Making Mauer look foolish. Well Played, CC!

419 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:45 pm

SIDDOWN JOEY!!!

420 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:45 pm

I was flipping through Darling's book the other day, kinda cool format. I might pick it up during the winter.

421 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:46 pm

[410] I'm very pleasantly surprised.

422 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:46 pm

Impressive handling of Mauer, who is one of those few hitters that makes me wonder how anyone ever gets him out (Edgar Martinez was another).

423 JeremyM   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:46 pm

This camera man sucks!

424 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:46 pm

Teeter Totter?

425 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:46 pm

Holy pants shitted.

426 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:46 pm

Oh man, I thought that was gone for sure. Phew!

427 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:46 pm

That was unnecessarily scary

428 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:46 pm

FUCK YOU TBS CAMERAS!!

Please pass the heart defibrillator.

432 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:47 pm

Seemed like the announcers lost that ball. Gardner didn't, luckily.

433 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:47 pm

[426] The wide shot did us no favors.

434 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:47 pm

Wow...how did that stay in the park!

435 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:47 pm

[416] Sad, isn't it?

436 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:47 pm

How did that not go out?

437 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:48 pm

[424] Smoltz is from "Murica"...he's not like you and me. He calls soda "pop" and puts Mayo on everything.

438 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:48 pm

By the way, the Twins trade of Garza and Bartlett for Delmon Young doesn't look so bad now.

439 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:49 pm

Gardner was the only one who knew it would be caught. Did Thome stand up CC's sister or something? Lotsa close ones. And on the mark ones.

440 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:49 pm

[438] I thought it was a pretty fair trade at the time.

441 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:49 pm

CC is losing it a bit. Dropping his shoulder and coming under the ball.

442 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:49 pm

Easy CC, easy, big fella...don't like how this sequence is starting...

443 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:50 pm

Good trip by Eiland...not sure why Sabathia started over throwing.

444 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:50 pm

[438] I honestly think its still pretty terrible.

but Pierzynski for Nathan and Liriano makes up for it

445 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:50 pm

[437] It's still weird everytime I hear it in the mid-west, calling soda "pop". It's soda, goddammit.

446 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:50 pm

Ohhhhhh man, that would have been an incredible play.

447 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:50 pm

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!

448 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:50 pm

Thank God Thome is so slow

449 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:50 pm

These announcers are a little behind the curve when it comes to left field this inning

450 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:50 pm

Almost an awesome play by Gardner. Wow. And damn it!

451 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:50 pm

Fuck. Just missed it. Damnit. E7.

452 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:50 pm

Oh, fuckitty fuck fuck.

453 monkeypants   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:51 pm

Yikes...so close. Maybe time to get CC outta there, except who comes in during the sixth? Mitre?

454 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:51 pm

[445] It's actually soda pop. There was a split sometime around the Civil War (unrelated, I'm sure)

455 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:51 pm

Do not drop the ball Jorgie.

456 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:51 pm

I don't feel good about CC right now.

457 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:51 pm

What was that move Gardner did after losing the ball? Looking for style points? I actually chuckled, even though I'm freaking out.

458 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:51 pm

Can Girardi go into catch?

459 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:51 pm

Uh Oh

460 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:51 pm

Come on, CC

461 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:52 pm

Double Uh Oh

462 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:52 pm

How did he lose it all of a sudden?

463 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:52 pm

If he walks him, it's still better than a hit

464 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:52 pm

[453] Don't you blaspheme!

Joba 7th
Wood 8th
Mo 9th

465 felix holt   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:52 pm

I foresee very bad things.

466 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:52 pm

I might throw an intentional one here

467 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:53 pm

What the hell is going on with Sabathia? The strike thrower??

468 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:53 pm

[462] To get out the rookie. I hope.

469 tommyl   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:53 pm

Robertson, Joba, Wood, Mo?

470 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:53 pm

CC wasn't gonna let up a long ball. I'm OK with him being careful there.

471 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:53 pm

Sabathia will get out of this

472 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:53 pm

Cashman doesnt look very comfortable.

473 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:53 pm

Strikes CC

474 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:53 pm

[454] I'm just so used to calling it soda, then I come to Toledo & simply hear "pop", it's jarring.

475 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:54 pm

CC looks rattled.

476 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:54 pm

hows about throwing the child a strike?

477 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:54 pm

C'mon CC, let's get this rook.

478 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:54 pm

Not good

479 felix holt   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:54 pm

Come on CC. Don't give them this.

480 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:54 pm

oh... my....

481 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:54 pm

He will have to make a pitch eventually though

482 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:54 pm

Damnit

485 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:54 pm

Awful job by Sabathia.

486 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:54 pm

Bear DOWN CC. THROW A STRIKE!

487 felix holt   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:54 pm

496 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:55 pm

THIS is why we needed to play for home field. Tie game in the late innings is giving me heartburn

497 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:55 pm

CC has zero command. That kid was not gonna bite, to his credit.

498 randym77   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:56 pm

I think CC's just tired. He's over 100 pitches, and it's a high-pressure game.

ok ok, could've been much worse...anybody's game here

514 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:58 pm

Good.
3 inning game. Passed ball run. Walked in run. Pass the glue.

515 mjpucci   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:58 pm

So...whose bullpen do we like more?

516 JeremyM   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:58 pm

Start it off Jeter. Roll on these ass clowns.

517 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:58 pm

Okay kids, that's that. Now here we go for some SCORE TRUCK ACTION!

518 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:59 pm

[509] My liver is on the same page. This is just game one of the LDS.

519 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:59 pm

Yup, gunna be a late night.

520 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 10:59 pm

It's a battle of the bullpens now

521 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:00 pm

All of that with 2 outs. I really don't understand what happened. Obviously it could have been worse but it just seemed so ... unnecesary

522 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:00 pm

[520] And no Gaudin!

523 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:00 pm

With CC pitching game #4, he has to be done now. Robbie, Wood and Mo? If it's still a tie, we might have to squeeze Joba in there and be prepared to go 10.

Ya wonder if AJ can go 1 in there... but I think he is terrible in his first inning. Not a good trait for a relieve.

524 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:01 pm

Sheeet. After a brief scientific study I have concluded that when I watch the Yanks tank. When I don't they rake. Got out of the subway and they're ahead. Get to my office just in time watch CC give it back. GAH!

525 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:01 pm

[523] I'm also really worried that Joe's going to do what he did last year and run through all his top tier relievers in two innings.

526 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:01 pm

That's why ya gotta take the first pitch.

527 knuckles   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:02 pm

Jeter is just guessing these days, and guessing WRONG.

528 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:02 pm

I'm going to miss Joe Nathan. He always seemed to implode in big spots.

529 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:02 pm

Crain's pretty nasty.

530 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:02 pm

I think I'm gonna hit the bed and listen on the radio ...

531 yankintexas   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:02 pm

Gotta gets some runs before those three closers?!? get in the game...

532 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:02 pm

For once I really want to hear the postgame interview with a player. CC - what in the name of all that's holy happened there?

Anyway; moving on

533 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:02 pm

For god sakes, take a fucking pitch, Jeets.

534 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:03 pm

William.... what do you know about the Twin's BP?

535 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:03 pm

[531] this may come back to haunt me, but Rauch-Fuentes-Capps does not send a chill down my spine

536 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:03 pm

But not that one!

540 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:04 pm

Jete's hit it on the button. And nice job by Swish.

541 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:05 pm

Fucking Swisher is so steady

542 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:05 pm

Right on, Swish. Let's go, Yanks! C'mon big Tex.

543 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:05 pm

Golson? Pinch Run?

544 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:05 pm

[543] Please no.

545 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:06 pm

Wow, these Twins fans really DO think everything's a strike. C'mon TEX!

546 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:06 pm

Should Teix and ARod just look for the curve on every pitch (B4 2 strikes) and hope to launch one?

547 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:07 pm

way to clear your throat right into the mic John

561 mjpucci   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:09 pm

Tex's first 4 at-bats > his entire 2009 postseason.

563 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:09 pm

573 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:13 pm

Hey Jazz, or anyone out of the USA, the At Bat iPod app is blacking me out, even though I have the Post Season pass and Japan is not part of the international black out. What gives? Anyone know?

574 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:13 pm

Now... with a 2 run lead, do you try to save Robbie or Wood for tomorrow and give Joba the 7th?

575 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:13 pm

Sorry, that's an iPhone app.

576 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:15 pm

Nice work, A-Rod!

577 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:15 pm

591 yankintexas   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:18 pm

603 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:22 pm

Why do I look forward to this?

612 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:24 pm

[611] I have no idea. I was asking myself that before

613 felix holt   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:25 pm

[611] Because you're insane, or somehow not quite right -- like the rest of us.

614 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:25 pm

Good job Boone. One more

615 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:25 pm

A WHOLE INNING FOR LOGAN?
Where's Girardi?

616 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:25 pm

I'm impressed with Joe leaving him in for the righty

617 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:26 pm

[611] It's a better sick kinda feeling now. Alcohol helps.

618 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:26 pm

[615] Its better than running through everyone and then getting stuck with Mitre in extra innings like we did last year

619 yankintexas   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:26 pm

[609] Like Boston stint awful.

620 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:27 pm

I'm so looking forward to booing Pavano on Saturday. Does that make me petty?

633 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:31 pm

Damn! Too good to be true to hope for a 1-2-3. If Young gets on, Thome becomes the winning run at the plate.
(Why do I look forward to this?)

634 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:31 pm

Well, that was nice

649 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:34 pm

Crap. C'mon Dave...jeez.

664 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:35 pm

Ugh. That sucked. This is scary now. Thome. Well, we'll have time to score some more.

Thome is a low ball hitter.
Repeat:
THOME IS A LOW BALL HITTER!

666 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:35 pm

He should've just left Boogan in. Like I said, giving up a single to Mauer is meaningless. The guy gets hits. And it was tough for him there too. Should have left him in, just in case. He looked good to me

667 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:35 pm

[662] Hopefully Robertson. But he may be alone.

Whooo. The Logan David was sweet as usual.

Man am I glad Royce Ring was left off the roster. Otherwise, Thome would be circling the bases now.

690 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:38 pm

ON-IONS!

691 JeremyM   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:38 pm

Hard to believe Thome is 40.

I see the Rangers released Rich Harden today- he must have pissed someone off. I've never seen that from a playoff team.

692 felix holt   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:38 pm

Well fucking done.

693 mjpucci   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:39 pm

D-Rob may lose the strike zone sometimes, but dude's got stones. Big ones.

694 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:39 pm

[691] Must have bitched about not making the post season roster. Guess he can kiss his post season share good bye.

695 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:39 pm

I might have make my students memorize the box score tomorrow while I nap for 2 hours and then give them a 2 hous test and nap for another 2 hours. OY.

696 JeremyM   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:40 pm

[689] Great point! That would've been awful to see.

697 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:40 pm

FYI Dept... from ESPN:
"Joe Girardi revealed shortly before the start of Wednesday night's ALDS Game 1 against the Minnesota Twins that the slugging first baseman [Teixiera] was given a cortisone shot in the base of his right thumb on Sept. 20."

698 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:40 pm

I like Thome a lot, and like him more now. But not so sorry to wish him failure.

[697] Thank God steroids aren't illegal.

[694] I think if you're on the roster for the season, they can't take it away. But yeah, he must have really whined. I mean, you think they'd keep him around just in case a bunch of guys get hurt.

702 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:42 pm

Let's go JORGE. The way I see it, he still owes us a run.

703 felix holt   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:43 pm

Great AB here by Posada.

704 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:43 pm

MORE RUNS

705 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:44 pm

I was hoping to see Jorge with the lead off walk and then not pinch run for.

706 JeremyM   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:44 pm

Yankees sucks chants?!?!

707 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:44 pm

Robertson starts the 8th, right?

708 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:44 pm

Posada is 39, he swung at that last pitch like Jack Benny.

709 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:44 pm

By the way... I believe Cortisone shots take a long time of penetration to deliver and use a nasty needle. At the base of the thumb???? Ouchie.

And Diane... I hope my 'penetration' comment doesn't get you back heated up.

710 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:44 pm

[701] It was a roster move as they got a player form another team. Still stone cold. I don't thing there was a reason to put this move off until after the WS.

711 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:44 pm

[705] or a pinch stand there

712 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:45 pm

I like Ron Darling. He sounds like James Woods.

713 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:45 pm

[709] I got a cortisone shot in my knee once. The needle was ****ing GIGANTIC.

714 rbj   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:46 pm

[709] They are. My hip guy considers them to be surgery.

715 The Hawk   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:46 pm

[712] In general, I'd trade the Yankee announcers for the Mets announcers in a heartbeat.

716 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:47 pm

[715] Still say Singleton is the best in either booth though

717 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:48 pm

No walks Kerry

718 JeremyM   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:48 pm

Did Gardner work a full count each at-bat tonight?

719 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:49 pm

This was posted at Lohud just before the game...
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Curtis Granderson is a career .182 hitter against Francisco Liriano. He’s hit well against nearly every other pitcher on the Twins staff, but Granderson has struggled against tonight’s starter.

Whether to play Granderson, though, was never a debate for Joe Girardi.

“I don’t look at his numbers in the past,” Girardi said. “He’s a different hitter now, we think. You look at what he did the last two months in his at-bats against left-handers. He was a different guy for us.

Joe Joe pushing some correct buttons so far?

720 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:50 pm

[716] I agree with that. I think a Singleton/Jack Curry tandem would be good, with O'neil joining them once in a while for comic relief.

721 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:51 pm

[716] No doubt. He's provides an ideal mix of both animated and measured commentary. And the batting insights are a bonus.

723 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:51 pm

Just when I thought I liked the ump's strike zone. That 1st pitch was a fucking strike

724 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:51 pm

[715] Agreed. Also, they pull out some really very hip 70s rock'n'roll references. I've heard them discuss Mott the Hoople for cryin' out loud. Now...back to the game.

Let's PLEASE get Cuddyer!

725 felix holt   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:52 pm

Please, Kerry, pitch well. Pitch very well. Don't do anything fucking bad.

726 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:52 pm

[721] And he's a real good PBP guy

727 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:52 pm

[719]

Only the obvious ones ... Granderson has an ~875 OPS since K. Long reworked his swing (in about 65 or so at bats, about 1/2 what he had before).

Meanwhile, K-K-K-Kearns couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat.

728 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:53 pm

Ouch!

729 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:54 pm

Come on Kerry. Dont throw the ball two feet outside

730 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:54 pm

[72] That's 875 OPS against *LHP* since the swing re-working ...

731 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:54 pm

[719] Well Kearns would have somehow struck out 7 times by now.
I'm truly starting to worry about all these headshots Jorge has take over the last 3 years.. Since I got my big TV they seem to happen more often.
YES!

732 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:54 pm

744 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:57 pm

Come on Kerry

745 Just Fair   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:58 pm

751 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:59 pm

Oh that just sucks. A cheap, little BS hit. Almost a genius play by A-Rod.

752 JeremyM   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:59 pm

Where was Jeter on that one?

753 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 6, 2010 11:59 pm

760 JeremyM   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:01 am

So close to a DP, but a single could be a killer here.

761 mjpucci   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:01 am

Goddamn, could Robbie not have gotten the force at 2nd?

762 Just Fair   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:01 am

Mature Cano. He would have gone to 2nd in the regular season.

763 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:01 am

[753] Maybe Derek couldn't, but that's a shortstop's ball.

764 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:01 am

Robbie made the right play. Let's get one more, Kerry!

765 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:01 am

766 JeremyM   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:02 am

OK Mo, be good.

768 felix holt   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:02 am

I'm so fucking nervous.

769 Just Fair   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:02 am

There's no fucking way Mo's loose, yet. They just freaking showed him 2 minutes ago. Ugh.

770 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:02 am

Girardi go Mo up late, so I hope he is ready.

Wood has definitely been great for the Yankees, but his inability to throw strikes is going to cost them at some point.

771 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:03 am

[763] I'm not so sure - that was a bad luck ball and Jeter was back for the DP. I'm as tough as anyone on Jeter's D, but I don't blame him there at all.

772 joe   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:03 am

I kinda wanted to see Kerry for one more batter. Mo for more than 3 outs can be scary

773 yankintexas   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:03 am

[765] Which one? October or September Mo?

774 mhoward120   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:03 am

Well, it didn't take long for Girardi to push the panic button.

775 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:03 am

[770] A friend messaged me "Does Wood ever NOT walk a guy?"

776 mjpucci   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:03 am

Is anyone else eternally grateful that tomorrow's game starts at 6?

777 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:03 am

I'm officially nervous.

778 yankintexas   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:04 am

Another run or five would be nice here. Heart of Minny's lineup due in 9th.

807 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:09 am

One of Mo's September blown saves consisted of single, stolen base, stolen base, ground ball under Arod's glove, stolen base, stolen base, sac fly.

808 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:09 am

Oh man, let's get another run. The bottom of the 9th is a bit scary.

Then again, maybe he ain't.

819 JeremyM   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:12 am

In Mo's saves over an inning, it's the second inning that causes problems. I'd almost rather forfeit this half inning if they're not going to score, in case the problem is Mo sitting around too long.

820 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:12 am

[813] I was thinking the same thing. Results have been ehhh, but he hasn't looked like a dog at the plate.

[863] He's their best center fielder :)

867 mjpucci   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:22 am

The Yankees' title chances just grazed past Mo's glove.

868 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:22 am

Horseshit call. Fuck you, Blue.

881 tommyl   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:24 am

You have to be fucking kidding me. He was out.

882 mhoward120   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:24 am

Those motherfucking umps

883 JeremyM   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:24 am

REPLAY, NOW!!!!

884 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:24 am

Mother of God.

885 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:24 am

I love Mo but Darling doesn't know what he's talking about. They did not see the future in Mo. He was a decent starter for a bit, but not great. His cutter is 'an accident', and Stottelmyre tried to break him out of throwing a ball with 'wild movement'.

And is was just about traded. It's dumb luck he's still on the team.

886 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:24 am

This game is played in protest! Nice catch.

887 tommyl   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:24 am

So instant replay is bad why?

888 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:24 am

All right....one more.

889 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:24 am

All right, just settle down.

Whatever.

Go get him, Mo.

890 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:24 am

what happend???!

891 felix holt   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:24 am

That's fucking right, you motherfucking umpires.

892 JeremyM   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:25 am

A lot of closers would've been rattled there. Praise be to Mo!!!

893 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:25 am

Goddamn.

Goddamn.

MARIANO. FUCKING. RIVERA.

894 Just Fair   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:25 am

HA!
All Rise.
A nice anti-climatic play after that bullshit call.

895 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:25 am

And the HORSESHIT call is moot. YANKEES WIN, my friends!

896 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:25 am

Mo for the FIVE out Save!

897 felix holt   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:25 am

[890] Golson made a shoestring catch for the final out; umps called it a base hit.

898 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:25 am

I am sure Bud wants the Twins to win, but he was probably rooting for Mo in that last at bat.

The umpiring is getting pretty pathetic.

899 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:25 am

Yanks outlive an umpire FUCK UP.

LONG LIVE MO!

900 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:25 am

nice win, team!

10 more to go...

Those Lutherans of Minnesota know how to quietly keep their disappointment to themselves. Hug a Lutheran tomorrow (if they let you).

902 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:26 am

Looks like the Yankees wound up with home field after all.

903 mhoward120   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:26 am

Well, I confess that I was one of the two morons who picked the Twins in 3 in the earlier poll. Mia culpa, mia maxima culpa.

904 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:26 am

High fives all round, folks. Sleep well!

906 Yankee Mama   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:27 am

Phew!

907 JeremyM   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:28 am

The best part was when the Yankees won.

Andy can really drop the hammer tomorrow.

908 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:29 am

In MO we trust!

909 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:29 am

Teix gets the glory, but Granderson had the biggest hit.

910 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:29 am

Sweet sleeps, good night.

911 jjmerlock   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:30 am

900 plus comments. Wow.

Yes. Great start.

I've been killing Joe, but to his credit, as I was following on Gameday, I started saying, "please tell me he's going to Mo. You go to Mo here. You have to."

And he did. I guess bringing in Mo is never a hard move, but it was good to see him pull that trigger, and I think it was a must move.

912 jjmerlock   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:30 am

Hmmm... don't like that number (post number)

913 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:31 am

[909] Both were important...Tex to shake off his ills from last post season, and Granderson to put aside the Matsui/Damon laments.

914 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:31 am

And you know what Mo's going to say about the whole business: "Oh, what, me? I just try to do my job, that's all."

915 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:31 am

[890] Dude, I am not busy at all today. So feel free to drop by at anytime to catch the archive or the replays.....if it's not cool in your office.....

916 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:32 am

Statler & Waldorf. @keithlaw Can you name the people Selig always says he is talking to who are against replay?

917 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:33 am

My blood pressure has returned to normal

918 jjmerlock   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:34 am

Ha - looking at the game thread, people seemed to not like the move.

Now, following on Gameday, I couldn't tell anything about if Mo had been warming long enough, and I wasn't actually *watching* Kerry - but I gotta tell you, from the limited perspective I had, I thought you don't let that situation rest on Kerry - you go to Mo and you go for the kill. Kerry had walked a guy, he's still K. Wood, and I figured the Twins had probably seen plenty of him previously. I wanted Mo.

Now if Mo wasn't ready, that's additional information I didn't have...

919 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:34 am

[915] No problem with Gameday here..Mr. Spacely aware of what's really important in life But round 2 for sure, i'll bring the bagels.

920 seamus   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:41 am

hey folks. hot damn it's going to take a while to catch up on posts. I'd like to note that my last post (296 i think) was the rally cry (clap clap clap-clap-clap)! Then company showed and i had to disappear from the blog. Still, a great win! LET'S GO YAN-KEES!!

921 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:42 am

Holy Shit! Mo has 40 post season saves.

922 Statler   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:44 am

[916] Dude, I'm FOR replay. Don't put words in my mouth. You're no Jim Henson, SIR!

923 seamus   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:45 am

Btw, maybe you all discussed this, but was I the only one amazed by how quiet these fans were at times. They were only down 2 runs in a playoff game. They'd have 2 strikes on a Yankee batter and they were dead quiet.

924 jjmerlock   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:45 am

[921] A rare 40/40, no?

925 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:46 am

[924] Mmmm, there was that night in Phoenix...

926 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:47 am

Get some vintage Andy tomorrow and I'll be in a real good mood

927 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:49 am

[919] Ain't talkin' bout Gameday. I mean real footage. Sterling and Susan screaming. Shit like that. Mr. Dithers is OK with that?

928 jjmerlock   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:53 am

[924] Worst baseball heartache I ever had. Things like Goose vs. the Royals and the inning that would not end against the Mariners are up there, but that one is by far the one that hurt the most.

929 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:55 am

Thank God it wasn't Girardi who left Liriano in for Granderson, We would have tarred and feathered him.

930 seamus   ~  Oct 7, 2010 12:58 am

[929] frackin' awesome comment!

931 seamus   ~  Oct 7, 2010 1:04 am

Finally caught up. great game folks!! Folks were kind of imploding here when we were down 3-0 so it was cool to read everyone's spirits lift as we took the lead and won the game!
