Call it, Posno

Well, this is just too much fun. Joe Pos lists 32-great calls.

I’ve got a nomination for one of the worst calls–Tom Seaver, Howard Cosell, and Keith Jackson botching Reggie’s third dinger.

So many great calls and I agree 100% with the Al Michaels/US Hockey call at #1. I was 12 years old when that happened. Still get chills when I watch footage and hear that call.

agreed, Abby. I was 3, don't remember it, don't like hockey, and it gives me chills too.

I actually watched that game and could not have cared less about hockey. I was 9. Good stuff.

I assume #1 was:
"ROGER CLEMENS IS IN GEORGE STEINBRENNERS BOOTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

My all-time favorite announcing moment comes from Phil Rizzuto: "Hey, there's the moon. Look, you can see Texas.... Wait a minute, Texas isn't on the moon."

The Miracle on Ice will never be topped for drama. Not only is it one of the biggests sports upsets, but in this case, the underdog was a the richest nation in the world. It's absurd to say, but I sometimes miss the cold war, at least as it existed through the prism of sports.

In Canada, I'm sure they have lots of summit series and Canadian Cup calls that would rival Michaels. I guess the Soviets brought out the best in North American sports.
