big ol' lobster pot of chili on the stove (ground beef, chucks of chicken breast, 4 types of chilis, beans, diced tomatahs etc.). Gonna be a great weekend of eating and baseball. Saving cornbread for Saturday, and Sunday. Chili and cornbread. Best CC combination this side of Sabathia. See what I did there?
I think the Rangers will get off to a quick start, say 2-0 or 3-0 and then after the broadcasters have their organisms, the Yanks in methodical, business-like fashion knock out CJ in the 5th or 6th to take the lead. The broadcasters will then get crabby. After some nervous moments in the 8th with Wood and DRob, Mo comes in to slam shut a 6-4 win.
Instead of lying on my sofa with bagels, muffins and coffee with the game on tv, I'm heading out to industrial Chiba-prefecture (think the dregs of industrial New Jersey) to work at an event...sigh....
[22] One of the factors in my checking out of baseball from my adolescence through college was the games' being moved to sportschannel, which we didn't have, from channel 11.
[26] It is a shame that most regular season games are not available over the air, but league championship series? At least the non-cable folks can watch Phillies-Giants. Most baseball Giants fans left in NY are probably in nursing homes.
[125] Wilson had just as much time off...that's just an excuse. Sabathia has been bad, plain and simple, but he can still rebound and give the Yankees a quality start. If he does that, I think they win the game.
It's too bad this team does not know how to come back after leading Minnesota for 3 straight games. ; )
Thatta boy, CC! Here come the speedsters to rattle wilson.
[164] As a concession to his diminished bat speed, Jeter seems to be guessing a lot more, and I guess he figured first pitch after a walk was a sure strikeout.
[180] Young was playing him deep and the grass is very thick. With speed on the bases, I thought Jeter might lay one down for a hit. At least I was hoping he would try,
I'm afraid that along with offending delicate ears by referring to CC's amplitude, my use of italics set off a seismic fuck up. I closed the tag in the same post, and tried to just put in a closed tag in another post. Not my night.
To be tooptimistc......
CC is still off.... but managing to get through. We can let him throw 110 pitches and maybe get 7 IP from him.
Yankee bats are de-rusting a bit
Torre batted ARod 8th.
Gardner should be leading off and Jeter batting 9th.
I'm afraid that we will compromise the PS because everyone (except George, RIP) is afraid to put Jeter down in the order.
That could be a tough one to come back from. If they continue to do nothing, maybe you sit the fat man down and tell him to show us what an ace looks like in 4 and 7. If we can get there. That was a kill shot.
Iyasu - I see you follow Japanese baseball. Do you know what happened to Andy Phillips? Was he injured or something? He didn't play much, and when he did, he was awful.
[277] He had no chance on the inside fastball, something that has become common. His bat speed loss reminds me of Alomar's in his first year with the Mets.
[302] well look who it be! i've been reading every single one of your PB posts. i have the last two pitching ones from your alcs 4-headed monster on the docket. i'll be reading them here in the late innings. i guess we should switch the game 1 advantage to texas... : (
oh, and don't forget, soriano had a 39/40 type season (41 sb's). i remember vlad's - he actually hit #40 and it was called a non-homerun. bad call. i was upset when i watched it...

More than Sabathia's ineffectiveness, the ineptitude of the offense concerns me. In particular, Jeter and Arod look lost, which is particularly troubling with four games being pitched by lefties.
I have to say. Six scoreless from Wilson. CC out after four. I'm stunned by this game. Just totally taken aback. I knew CC hadn't been sharp of late and Wilson had, but I really didn't anticipate such a lop-sided game at all. The 1-2-3 sixth from Wilson really drives the nail in.
It's tough to lose with C.C. on the mound, but I just don't think the first game of a seven game series can be classified as a huge, unless you are referring to it hurthing their chances of having an easy series.

A Key Play:
ARod's hit was all but right at the 3rd baseman. Instead of manning up and getting it front of it, he tried to catch it to the side, and it was by him. He gets in front of that ball and Texas is still ahead.
[594] Hard to keep up with comments and watch every pitch. Props to you who can do it. That's why I'm rarely here with you guys, but after CC's start I needed the companionship.
That's how you wreck a rally with the bunt. With a better manager, Texas would have won this game and the Yankees probably would have had a bigger lead entering the ninth.
[768] yes, you are right. I can't remember jeter pulling balls and hitting them so hard that much this season. It was really nice and huge in this game!
Since it was New York that just beat Texas, maybe W will now order an invasion of New Zealand...oh wait, its too late for him to kill more of our children.

[771] Aww, poor, hapless Mellky. Yes, indeed, props to our man Brett!
[771] When Gardner made that play, I thought of a game against the White Sox from circa 1993. Velarde, or someone, made a similar play and the Yankees went on to score 8 runs in the inning to erase a big deficit.
[776] i had ideas of going to a braves game this season, sitting in the outfield seats, wearing my got melky? t-shirt. wanted him to feel the love. alas, i never made it to the Ted...
I swear that in my Haftorah portion from all the way back in 1964 there was something about Ian Kinsler getting picked off in the 8th inning on Shabbos.
I just want to point out that the Banter was a little different around posts 50-550. Jeter's career was finished, Mosely was the white flag, Cano's solo shot was something not to care about, CC was not the big man but the grotesque rotund one, and so much more. Oh ye of little faith...never count the Yankees out with a gettable run total and many innings to do it.
I was at work tonight, keeping an eye on the game and occasionally jumping into my office and checking the thread.
When so many here were on the ledge at 5-0, I smiled and thought - "Relax, knowing these teams, the Yanks could still win this thing." Just had a hunch - as a Met fan co-worker said tonight when the Yanks came to life, "I've seen this movie before."
[804] I see; a former President (and former minoirty owner and EVP of the team) comes to a ballgame to root against the Yankees. I don't see how my comment was political. I really was thinking what disappointed him more. And it wasn't political, it was real life and death stuff. Please take that back.
And, the tide turned on the banter here:

[804] commenting guidelines say, "thank you for not ... preaching about partisan politics or religion..." I wouldn't say that [802] was preaching. It was a factual statement made in humor of the context of the Rangers spitting the bit.
Yankees 7, Rangers 2.
"Nobody asked me but," I am really glad the Yanks are playing in Texas. I hate bad weather games.

Let's go Yankees!
This the game thread?
If so, then:
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!
WHY IS THIS DAY MOVING SO SLOW?????
Via David Pinto:
"The game one home plate umpire in the ALCS has a history of squeezing pitchers."
Time to warm up the cussing.

Go Go Yankees! Go Go Banter!!
Yanks 8 Rangers 3
[6] I don't think "organisms" was the word you were looking for.
[8] Ha. You're right!
[6] And then what happens to the announcers?
[11]
they lie back and have a cigarette ... or roll over and go to sleep
[11] Can't it be both?
Twenty-seven minutes...
What the fuck channel is the game on, btw? Fox?
[13] As you know...Texas has a whorehouse in it.
I normally like CJ Wilson, even if he is a straight edger. Not so much tonight.
[14] TBS. Screenshot of the ALCS schedule:
http://i51.tinypic.com/2ecj7fn.png
[14] TBS. ALCS is on TBS, NLCS gets Fox.
Cheers, guys!
Who are the announcers tonight?
Fuck, I'm nervous...
[18] So, if you do not have cable or satellite no watching the Yankees. That's a lot of folks in the boroughs.
CC ahead of CJ in alpha order. Just sayin'.
[20] Some guy who talks like he's doing WWF and Darling.
And Smoltz.
[22] One of the factors in my checking out of baseball from my adolescence through college was the games' being moved to sportschannel, which we didn't have, from channel 11.
It's a travesty.
START THE BLOODY BASEBALL GAME, ALREADY!
Oh, hey. There's a game on tonight. : )
Go Yankess!
Finally first pitch
What the hell is John Smoltz talking about?
Evening folks.
Here it is!
[26] It is a shame that most regular season games are not available over the air, but league championship series? At least the non-cable folks can watch Phillies-Giants. Most baseball Giants fans left in NY are probably in nursing homes.
And why is Ron Darling screaming?
Solid contact. Good sign.
Did I just hear "gyroball?"
Yankees Suck chant. Yankees suck, but Texas snorts.
Um, no, that would be the opposite of "reserve."
And I didn't hear much booing, or any, for that matter.
C'mon on now, Big Fella!
does the infield grass look really short ... cut quite short
Oh boy
I don't fucking care about your bald pates!
Oh, this strikezone is gonna suck.
CC is getting squeezed.
its not androos ///// its andruhs
There IS an outside corner you fucking bastard umpire.
Getting squeezed already. Let's go CC, nice and easy.
I wonder if he likes being refered to as the "horse of the staff". Everytime I hear that, I think of how the horses were used in Animal Farm
Oh, fuck me.
Oh fer fuck's sake ...
Um, I don't like this.
Never liked Michael Young
[46] hahahahah
Low strike zone.
How the fuck was he on that?
That was a change, no?
Holy fuck.
[50] Hamilton less so.
Fucking fuck fuck!
Or a flat curve.
Nice 0-2 pitch. Good grief.
We're in trouble.
Jesus.
Hmmm ... fat man throwing FAT pitches.
Awful fucking beginning.
[57] And I'll *still* take it over the Phil Hughes "three feet outside" waste pitch
Fucking off-week.
Can we please stop talking about game focking three?
I can't take this.
I just went back and watched Young's pitch by pitch ab. Yeah, that fucking sucked. Nothing like falling behind 3-0 b/c the ump's a douche.
This could be going better.
THROW FUCKING STRIKESSSSS!
Why?
FUCK YOU, UMP!
[67] Hard to throw strikes when the zone is as wide as a needle's head.
[70] Fucking squeezing the man's nuts.
This is a horror show.
Maybe this was the game AJ should have pitched? *shrugs*.
How long before Girardi *has* to get somebody up?
God, still just one out.
Thank God for Jeff Francoeur
AGGHGHGHGH!
He just can't throw strikes.
Well being how CJ got like 2 or 3 of those calls in the top of the inning it's official the ump has it in for CC.
We're cool, guys. I got take-out pho for dinner and that has never failed to propel the Yanks to a win (N > 0).
CC just should have laid on a couch for a week straight. Whatever working out he did was a fail.
Holy Shit. Looked safe to me.
Well, that will do.
There you go now lets forget this inning every happened and get to CJ.
What the fuck ever.
I'll take it.
[82] Yeah on that replay it sure did. Maybe the ump is just incompetent.
That was bad enough, could have been worse.
Oh, and the home plate ump has a history of squeezing pitchers.
[84] Agreed.
Jesus Fucking H Christ!!!!!!
Holy shit, would somebody wake the fat fuck up and tell him the game started???
That may be the worst starting inning I have ever seen from a pitcher who I didn't KNOW was going to suck. Kevin Brown was Kevin Brown, at least.
3000 fucking pounds, and I'm the one who's going to have the heart attack.
What the fuck was that???
Strike % for home plate umps - 2010:
Highest: 65.1%
Lowest: 60.6%
Gerry Davis: 62.3%
He was out. Sweet. Drop some runs on these mf's.
Test
He *was* out
So, btw, wtf with PB?
Was Jorgie crossed up or did he just fail to catch the ball?
Swing's a bit long there, Alex.
[94] CC airmailed one over JoPo's head.
I'm preparing for suicide right now.
[89] "....wake the the fat fuck up.... "
The 'fat fuck'?
Here's a tip for you JJ.....
http://yankees.lhblogs.com/
[94] Probably a passed ball. Isn't that what Posada means in spanish?
For the second time this postseason, Sabathia looked rattled. Hopefully he can keep it together and go at least six innings.
[89] I hate you.
MOTHER FUCKER!!!!
[90] Correctly called strikes to Michael Young. 33%. : )
Mother fuck him AND John Wayne.
This isn't our night
Day-um
MOTHERFUCKER!!!!
Is anyone else seeing ALL italics???
I hope we get a hit
[107] Yup.
goddammitt
After they shake off the rust, the Yankees will score runs. They just need CC to settle down, throw strikes and put up zeros.
[103] Man, you missed a chance to tie that PE line in with Elvis Andrus!
"Elvis Andrus was a hero to most...." :)
A 1,2,3 inning would go a long, long way.
[111] That's why I said it. : )
Alrighty, fat man, howz about a nice relaxing 1-2-3 inning of your own???
[103] AND John Wayne!!!
Hear, hear.
[112] I agree. He was so bad though that I dunno.
The Gatorade song is catchy
[111] Ohhh, brilliant!
Here we go again.
CC looked REALLY rattled. I hope he looks better this inning
I forgot about Angel Hernandez
They are just teeing off on him.
They're on everything.
C.C. really has no command.
Is it some sort of crime to refer to the fact that it looks like you could sail him all the way back to New York when he's giving it up this sweet?
Geez, it's not like that was my introductory post.
Forgive me, for after a brutal fucking week, hoping there would at least be a game to enjoy tonight. That effort was pathetic.
Honestly.... 6 days off for the team and 9 days off got CC is just to much. I really didn't expect good things the first half of the game.
Good play, Teix!
Thank god for Teix.
They're banging the ball all over the joint.
[125] Wilson had just as much time off...that's just an excuse. Sabathia has been bad, plain and simple, but he can still rebound and give the Yankees a quality start. If he does that, I think they win the game.
That's more like it!
Nice job, CC.
Good work.
Keep it up.
Well, that was better
[112] Your wish, CC's command.
Alright, that might have been a sign of a pulse.
Maybe they can start to put something together against CJ Wilson.
It's too bad this team does not know how to come back after leading Minnesota for 3 straight games. ; )
Thatta boy, CC! Here come the speedsters to rattle wilson.
[134] *Jorge Posada ambles up to the plate*
Thank you, Curtis.
The floodgates are opened!
It sounded like he called Curtis an A-hole.
I know he said 8 hole. but anyway.......
Walk him ya' chump.
Wow, finally the nutcracker favors us.
Excellent ab, Brett.
Well I know what I want to see. I don't know about you all.
Double steal, please.
Talking about killing a rally, Jeter came up.
Ohh, Derek.
"You want to kill this rally as soon as possible."
terrible ab, derek
Dalek Jeter.
Oh, that was a ball?
[142] Well that was on the basis of Jeter seeing a fucking pitch! Bollocks!
Umm yeah Swish is up to hit a 3 run homer. Go Swish!
Crap.
or not
Jeter's AB was just bad...Wilson just walked Gardner, and he hacks away at the first pitch.
I don't want this Liberty Mutual commercial anymore .... pulllllzzzzzeeeeee
[153] Ditto
That was the pitch CC shoyld have thrown 0-2.
that was 11 years ago, at least, that they scored 2 runs in the last 60 innings ...
argh
A hanging goddamn curve on 0-2 for 3 runs. My head hurts.
Don't get the pitch selection.
Thanks for hacking at that, Vlad.
He is pitching just awfully. Can't locate the slider to save his life.
This might be the first time in two years my confidence in C.C. is shaken, mostly because his own confidence seems to be wavering.
Let me try something.
[158] I blame Jorge. CC's been know to just throw what the cathcer puts down.
Why did Derek swing at that pitch?
I know he's been doing that all year but I just can't let it go.
That was really abominable.
Same mistake made to Hamilton. Yanks are in trouble in this game.
[164] As a concession to his diminished bat speed, Jeter seems to be guessing a lot more, and I guess he figured first pitch after a walk was a sure strikeout.
At least Jorge caught it.
I don't know how Vlad missed that.
Of course!
This fiasco wouldn't be complete without a balk, would it?
Oh fuck.
Ooh boy. One more, fat boy!
Darling's right.
That was a great play by Alex.
[163] It would be nice if Cervelli started warming up...
[173] Why? Only catcher worse than Jorge on defense is Cervelli.
Ok.
Wasn't pretty but it was scoreless.
Phew.
Alright, nice recovery there by CC.
Still, the balk, not good to see.
This is the kind of game where the Yanks need the big boys to come through. Tex and Alex need to answer the boos with some big hits.
[171] Just don't call him a fat fuck, or people will act like you haven't been here all season.
Wow, it feels like this game has already gone five or six innings.
Only three innings in - let's see them start to put something together...
[164] I don't know but it's getting old. He really should be in the 9 hole at this point but we're not going there....
[174] Maybe he can generate more passed balls with that backstop.
[180] Young was playing him deep and the grass is very thick. With speed on the bases, I thought Jeter might lay one down for a hit. At least I was hoping he would try,
[181] Good point!
6-0 Smoltz. Really? Because the Yanks haven't blown chances. Ass.
[182] Jeter seems to have a Manny-like quality of late. It just seems like he's just going through the motions.
[184] He's right...Rangers had a chance to bury this game.
Oh, man.
Alex was waay late on that.
Yanks need Arod to wakeup. He's been late since the ALDS started.
Someone left an open tag?
Trying to fix it...
They are not at the same frequency as the Rangers right now.
It's been a long break; let's hope they start to find their way back into this.
[189] If you change it from "show all" posts you won't see it.
Nice, Robbie.
Yay, a hit!
[191] Thanks. I wonder what went wrong.
Thanks, Marcus.
Signs of life.
Two-out rally?
Life! Hit one in the gap, Jorge!
Come on, Jorgie...
Hip hip....
I'm afraid that along with offending delicate ears by referring to CC's amplitude, my use of italics set off a seismic fuck up. I closed the tag in the same post, and tried to just put in a closed tag in another post. Not my night.
Fuck!
Wtf was he doing there?
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
They're getting closer...just need a few more zeros from Sabathia.
If CC can keep it together for another 3 innings, the Yanks will come back.
[201] Huh?
[200] I thought your post was hilarious.
Although I predicted a 5th or 6th inning rally it would have been nice to see some runs in one of these past innings.
[205] I think he is referencing that Cruz had him played perfectly on that jam shot.
[208] Ah.
[206] I was trying to capture "man waking from nap to bad dream"
Think Vincent Gigante in a bathrobe...
[208] Precisely.
i/>
double play here
fixed!!
He's still leaving way too much stuff "up."
I tried that, too - and it worked just for a post - I'll make this my last post, in case I'm screwing the whole board up.
I have no idea what the strikezone is
To be tooptimistc......
[214] No, it just only shows when you "show all" comments.
[217] That inside fastball that was suddenly a strike?
That's good htting. Just making contact sometimes pays off.
[220] Yep
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
FUCK YOU, GEORGE BUSH.
That's the game I'm afraid.
Italics start after coment [89]
OH FUCK!
Christ on a cracker. What's up with CC tonight?
Godfuckingdamnation
Terrible pitching. Just awful.
Oh, so that's how you do a 2 out rally.
@$@#$@#$@#%#%#%#%
That could be a tough one to come back from. If they continue to do nothing, maybe you sit the fat man down and tell him to show us what an ace looks like in 4 and 7. If we can get there. That was a kill shot.
sufferin succotash
I really feel like this is a must-win game, and it's not looking good....
So, I guess AJ wound up pitching game one?
Oh well.
[234] He hasn't hit anyone yet... :)
[229] No.... that was some good hitting. It happens.
cc is such a worthless fat piece of shit - maybe he can be traded for ollie perez in the off-season
Jorge Posada is exhausting
2 PBs? Yankees are not sharp.
Well, tomorrow's another game ...
[237] It was a pitch right down the center of the plate after two balls.
PULL HIM.
[238] I see.
It's a long series, can we expect to win two in Texas?
start the circo music (in honor of Jorge's Latin heritage).
cc is so worthless again - maybe he can be traded for ollie perez in the off-season
[238] Are you kidding me?
[240] I think this is Jorge at the top of his game
5 runs is nothing. But this is still HorseShit.
Don't feed the troll, Team.
If the Yankees can score a couple here, they're back in it, but time is running out.
Lot of angry inebriation here, and it isn't even 10 PM in the east.
[247] Great. Maybe package him in a deal to get that Texas backup stop. I hear it calls better games.
I think we need something to lighten the mood.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZ94rkwdTvQ&feature=player_embedded
Only 58 pitches for Wilson. CC's at 93. He won't be in the game much longer, if he comes back.
[252] err backstop.
I give up.
[251] I isss only on my second HIC drinkiepoo. I isss not HIC drunked.
You the man, Curtis!
Nice! A leadoff walk. Now let's do something!!!!
It's a shame CC doesn't have his stuff tonight. Topping out at 93?
Couple runs here and it's a ball game again.
[256] Not anything Grandy did. I give up trying to figure out what the hell the zone is
something to calm the nerves ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtbrLIwKWWA
One key hit will get the ball rolling. Let's go!
[253] Oh God, I remember that!
[262] I think mine was better :)
how many days until opening day 2011?
Gardner has not had a hit yet, but he has had some fantastic at bats these playoffs.
[265] Yeah but neither came with any runs. :(
Iyasu - I see you follow Japanese baseball. Do you know what happened to Andy Phillips? Was he injured or something? He didn't play much, and when he did, he was awful.
I know the "book" says you don't steal here, but with Jeter up...
Once you saw the loop on Young's throw, there was no way they'd get Gardner.
[270]
If the Yankees can't score runs, then the score could be one or ten nothing, it doesn't matter.
Jeter is simply not the hitter he once was, and probably never will be again.
[270] Gardy didn't have his customary eight pitches to get a read anyway.
Pull CC. Start over tomorrow. Jeter and GIDPs. Argh.
Jeter being Jeter. He's become the GIDP king.
[269] Andy Phillips was sent down to the minors for a while.
Captain DP strikes again - does he share his fiance with teammates for a dp too?
[277] He had no chance on the inside fastball, something that has become common. His bat speed loss reminds me of Alomar's in his first year with the Mets.
Oh, yay.
Save some of the buffet for your teammates, cc!
Probably the best way to play this, at this point.
Very, very disappointing stuff from CC.
Yankees strategy: throw a lot of weight at the Rangers.
[278] So I gather. But was it just because he sucked, or was it rehab assignment or something?
Just have to hope Girardi doesn't get any ideas like resting the regulars here. Although that might be hilarious.
Did he just say we're checking in with Matt Leinart?
we're a bloop & a blast, a bloop & a blast and yet another bloop & a blast away from leading this by a blast without a preceding bloop. nuthin' to it!
Rangers in 3 - MLB will invoke the mercy rule before game 4
[286] It would be. But he better not. If anything, the Yanks are too rested, I would guess.
[287] That's what I heard.
Well, The Soup is on.
I blame this on the Twins.
And a little bit on Jeter.
[292] If they were half way competent we wouldn't have this much rest!
[288] Hehehe. That's the spirit!
230 my ass.
I guess between "resting the regulars" and "murdering Tanyon Sturtze and pitching Wayne Franklin," the former is at least a slightly lighter turn.
I've been watching this game in Spanish. If I had the FOX announcers, I can only imagine the coronary would have arrived many innings ago.
Former Red Sock in for Failcoeur.
[285] He didn't do much of anything with the Carp either, so it may be that he hasn't adjusted to the league.
[286] Well, someone actually asked him if Posada would play tomorrow since it's a day game after a night game, according to LoHud...
[293] I mean irrational anger towards the Twins has to be part of any New Yorker response to this, right?
[285] According to Wikipedia, it was cuz he couldn't hit.
Also says in Japan he was always put in the outfield, which is not his position.
Diane, thanks for [262].
[299] Ay yi yi.
[298] I just don't think he's very good.
Hhahahahahahahahahaha
TBS Announcers just said "Dustin Moseley getting loose in the NY pen!"
I laugh, because otherwise I'd cry ...
maybe cc should have gotten some coke from ron washington before the game
Hey, Joba. Get the frickin' batter!
Alright, I'm going to go shave in the shower with the game on. If that won't start a rally, I don't know what will.
[306] Is that supposed to be funny in it's subtlety?
[298] I thought he did all right as a Carp. About what you'd expect from his track record here.
.265 / .339 / .500 with 15 homers (not bad for half a season)
This year:
.198 / .283 / .296
Pretty big difference, IMO.
I'm still very bitter about that 0-2 pitch to Hamilton. Stop - shave time!
ONe pitch, one out.
so much for patience...
1 pitch ab's ain't gonna cut it.
Now that outside pitch is a strike?
[316] Anything under the kneecaps, irrespective of lateral location.
pathetic.
[301] Boy, I wonder what happened. He really fell off a cliff.
He was playing some corner OF after he left the Yankees. The Reds and Mets were using him in LF.
boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Its sad to listen to "100 Years" by Five For Fighting and realize that you're getting older than the ages he lists
[316] I gave up quite some time ago
More than Sabathia's ineffectiveness, the ineptitude of the offense concerns me. In particular, Jeter and Arod look lost, which is particularly troubling with four games being pitched by lefties.
I have to say. Six scoreless from Wilson. CC out after four. I'm stunned by this game. Just totally taken aback. I knew CC hadn't been sharp of late and Wilson had, but I really didn't anticipate such a lop-sided game at all. The 1-2-3 sixth from Wilson really drives the nail in.
[312] ooh, just realizing you prolly didn't mention sori's near 40/40 year, 'coz he actually achieved it!
The veterans are obviously rusty from the lay-off. A little angst-sleep should help for tomorrow afternoon.
[302]
you are welcome .... maybe your kiddie will like watching it too
dustin moseley pitching in game 1 of the alcs. um, not good.
glad i have beer in the fridge. soon to be in the belly...
We should send Gaudin in for old times sake.
[312] Yes, but Soriano eventually did go 40/40, which is why I didn't mention him.
Dustin Moseley = human white flag.
Phil Hughes has the weight of the entire season on his shoulders tomorrow. This is a huge loss.
[319] Here's some more info:
http://yakyubaka.com/?s=phillips
[328] Your patience is admirable
[329]
can we get Kei Igawa down to Arlington in the next hour?
Well, if Moseley's on, the game must officially be over ...
What next?
[328] I guess Girardi's throwing in the towel.
I guess everyone's throwing in the towel.
From Jonah Keri's twitter:
Hello, Cliff!
Yankees have played just an awful ballgame tonight...the kind of game other teams usually have agains them in October.
its NOT Andrews ..... its Andruhs .... (right?)
[330] yeah, i realized that after i posted. see [325]. as you well know, i'm s-l-o-w...
yuckyuckyuckyuck!
[330] I'm not allowed to be comparatively optimistic here.
I actually feel a lot better right now than i did coming into the game. Knock Colby around tomorrow, and then
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VYJy05T70o
[331] Thanks, I guess that explains it. Too bad. I hear he really loved Japan.
[340] I thought so.
[340] they usually write the pronunciation at the espn player pages. for some reason, they don't have it for elvis...
Let's go Yankees! It has to start here, it has to start now.
Okay, time for more first-pitch swingin'.
It's tough to lose with C.C. on the mound, but I just don't think the first game of a seven game series can be classified as a huge, unless you are referring to it hurthing their chances of having an easy series.
Thanks, Robbie.
NIce shot.
That'll do. Atta boy, Robbie!
Yay!
that was a laser beam.
good on ya, robbie!
Where would we be without Robby.
THE SEAL IS BROKEN!
At least Cano looks locked in.
But in Robbie's case I'll let it slide. :)
[354] golfing.
I'm sadly unmoved by that Cano solo homer.
Not one of Jorge's better games tonight.
Well, I think we all saw that coming.
[344] Any word on the extent of injury? With his decent numbers in '09, he could well get another shot if healthy, especially if he likes it there.
[340] It's sort of in between the way they say it down here. Like it rhymes with juice.
[359] It's a start, but I'll need a run or three more.
If only CC could have thrown strikes.....
Yankees are 16-10 in postseason series in which they lost game 1; 3-1 in the ALCS when losing game 1.
[366] How many of the 16 series wins came in series in which the opponent's ace didn't start Game One?
[367] In 2003, they didn't see Pedro until game 3.
go go gritner!
The Grit man cometh!
I [heart] Brett Gardner. Even with the head-first slide.
[367] 2003 for sure
NIce to see someone cares.
[368] That's one.
Paging Vintage Captain. There's a spot for you on second base.
Can't even get around on an 89mph, first-pitch fastball.
WORD!!!!
Wow!!!
Did you see that?
He roped one down the left field line.
Amazing.
well, how 'bout that?!
captain comes thru.
5-2.
I [heart] Brett Gardner a lot.
To kill the buzz, Mitre is warming in the bullpen.
Speed kills.
And I think the head first slide was justified. He was trying to avoid the tag.
[381] with all due respect, you're not the life of the party tonight.
[374] When I built the spreadsheet, I didn't include that as one of the sortable fields :)
[373] 77 against the Royals too.
Oliver in to face three righties. Righties hit .281/.344/.421 against him this year.
Hey, it's cousing Oliver.
Keep the line moving. Lather, Rinse, Repeat.
C'mon Cornflake!
Swisher higher OBP from right side this year. Tex better everything from right side.
[374] Dennis Leonard didn't start until game three in 1977. Yankees lost to Splittorff in game one
[340] [346] The AL Red Book says "an-DREWS"
[363] Very cool!
Stick yer knee out , Swish.
If CC gets that pitch in 1st it's a different game. Fucking umpires!
[374] In 1951, Yanks didn't see Jansen and Maglie until games 2 and 4, respectively.
good job, nicky!
let's go Tex!!!
hmmm...
Jeter big lead. Swish not being held. Hmmm.....indeed.
c'mon tex, crush it!
[374] In 1952, Erskine went in game 2.
Keep the line moving, Teix
damn
[394] I guess Freddy Garcia would be the ace of the 2000 Ms, right? If not, you can throw that in there twoo.
Wowzers! Bases juiced.
Bravo, Teix.
Let's go, Alex.
Here you go, buddy, here you go...
Keep the line moving Rodriguez.
oh man, how *amazing* would it be if a-rod hits an a-bomb here?!?!?!?!
that would fuckin' RULE!!!
Uh, boy. This game is getting interesting.
[405] Though I wouldn't mind something that shuts the crowd up...
I really wanted to see Washington sprint like mad to the mound. Talk extra fast. And then sprint like the devil back to the dugout.
Serious run on those Oliver offerings.
[374] In 1978, Hooton was LA's best pitcher and he went in game 2.
O'Day dominates righties, but Alex's OPS was 128 points higher vs. righties this season.
They didn't see Maddux until game two in 1996. I know they started with Smoltz, but Maddux probably had a better year and a better rep.
That'll do. FUCK YEAH ALEX!
OHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i'll take it.
yeah, A-ROD!!!
That'll do, pig.
Ofay ODay Okay!
oh snap, tying run on second with no outs . . .
do. not. screw. this. up.
ALEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[374] In 1996, Rangers started Burkett in game 1.
[408] That'll do.
Did that girl have Chevy-branded eyeblack on?
How much of a marketing vehicle can you let yourself be?
in the mean time, this is getting interesting
One pitch and he's done! His shit stinks real bad.. The crowd sounds pretty quiet now!
Oh my god.
I feel like a fucking...I don't even know what...I don't even know what to call this state I'm in...
[421] Who was the ace of the 96 rangers?
[374] In 2000 ALDS, Gil Heredia beat Clemens. Hudson and Zito went in games 3 and 4.
Freaking lefties r' us.
Come on, Robby. You're a stud and you know it.
Show these clowns what you can do...
[427] Hill
[426] i think it's called 'october baseball'. i know exactly how you feel, man!
c'mon Robbie!!!
Knock a wall down, Robbie!
Ken Hill
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LKJFDAL;ADFSJL;KDSJLKFDSJDLSKJDSALJFDSL;KJDSLKADJSLKD
YAAAAAYYYY
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
holy cow
WOOHOO
HELLS YEAH!
TIE GAME!!!!
heh heh heh
Oh, oh, oh, we's all tied up!!! Knice Knock.
HOLY FUCKING FUCK!!!!!
Hey, Cliff. Is Mitre still up. : )
Fab 5 Freddy tweets Yankees:
[444] Wood joined him a few batters back.
this is pretty fucking cool, i must say!
cc - you're off the hook. get yer shit together for your next start.
this is good that we're blowing their 'pen out.
let's score some more. then, i guess, it's wood-Mo.
RIPPER!
[374] Besides, in 2007, Sabathia DID win game one and the Yankees still lost the series! :)
further to [419]: go-ahead run on third with six outs to get if they score it . . .
do. not. screw. this up.
I want the Yankees to score another six or so runs
Hey, this is fun..
[450] that is go-ahead run on third base, no outs . . .
do. not. screw. this up.
Smoltz looks devastated.
Like PTSD or something.
Oh and RonRon, here's a little hint.
NEXT TIME, USE A GOOD PITCHER, NOT JUST A LEFT HANDED ONE.
Smoltz's expression is priceless.
C'mon Cletus, GET. THIS. RUN. IN.
Oh, wait, I forgot, it's MR. THAMES!
robbie smoked that right up the middle.
still mr. thames. i thought maybe they'd go to Fat Elvis...
Hello, everyone. Unbelievable, huh?
Just a sac fly, Marcus, just get one in the air.
Hell, a double-play would work.
Come on Mr. Thames. Better swing than that
Goddamn Thames, don't strike out.
Just sent my dad and bro a text saying that Smoltzie is having bad flashbacks right now.
[562] Yeah, I'd take the DP.
what are you swinging at??? at least he made contact. (somehow)
[460] Unfuckingbelievable, yes.
This dude would be a fool to give Thames anything near the strike zone.
[459] Rangers brought Holland (LHB) in.
YYYYYAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!
MISTA THAMES!!!!!!!!!!!
THAMEY!
UGLY, BUT I'LL TAKE IT!
[468] I was watching before and just thinking, at least get the tying run to the plate at some point, just so there will be one interesting at bat.
I have a man crush on Marcus Thames
Bingo. Now Girardi has to be willing to go to Mo at first sign of trouble from Wood in the bottom of the inning.
Thames!
And still no one out!
woot!
More runs, please.
Way to pull those hands in. Fucking Awesome!
What did I say, people? The pho knows.
[470] ah, my bad - i thought he was a rightie. i'm a moron!
Keep it going. Conga around the bases like the Gas House Gorillas.
Now, it's Cletus time!
C'mon Piss Hands!
Moseley in line for the win .... whodathunkit.
That look on Nolan Ryan's face is priceless.
That was NOT a happy man
[484] One, two, three, kick...
"When are you people gonna learn? We are never outgunned!
[587] I want a poster of that.
Very Damonesque, that charge BRett gave us.
That Nolan Ryan shot is the highlight of the entire evening.
[492] Yeah, that is THE play of the inning.
[487] Uh huh.
FUCK YOU, BLUE!!!!
FUCK YOUR MOTHER!!
Wow, that was a strike?
Jorge's been my man for a dozen years.
strike 2 was inside.
damn, i missed the nolan shot.
[497] It was last time, which is really all you can ask
Oh, almost!
Rats. Just missed it.
Get him in, get him in, get him in...
ooh, pretty close.
PLEASE score this run from 3rd...
IN THE AIR CURTIS
If Jorge's drive had gone out, I was going to wake up the baby.
One more run would be nice.
[491] You know something we don't? :)
Jorge's shot would have been out at YS
fuck. c'mon, dude - don't k.
better swing than that Curtis
Settle down, Grandy.
Whewwwwww
Ump flinch. Yikes.
whew.
don't k, dude!
The hell?
Theoretically I should be studying pelvic anatomy, regrettably not a euphemism.
Not a chance, every time.
Better not take that pitch again, Grandy, Blue twitched on that one
FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Damnit
Fuck.
fuck
fuck
fuck
fuck
fuckfuck
Aight, c'mon Gritner, sweep the leg!
batting around.
bring in lucky #7
It's OK. Gamecast has the Yankees at 69%.
i really want this extra run here...
Their ignorance of Gardner is almost sweet.
Does Cruz lead off?
And Wood-Mo is ready.
Perhaps my favorite part of this inning (not really, but . . .):
http://plixi.com/p/50906779
Shit fuck piss.
damnit.
we need good Kerry. nice 'n easy, 1-2-3. thank you, please!!!
Good. And shit. Let the nailbiting commence.
[529] Thanks! I'm gonna download.
Would have loved to see a squeeze attempt with Granderson, but alas. I just hope Wood doesn't come in and starting walking everyone.
Alright. Come on Kerry. No walks.
[529] oh, that is *awesome*! thank you for that.
A Key Play:
ARod's hit was all but right at the 3rd baseman. Instead of manning up and getting it front of it, he tried to catch it to the side, and it was by him. He gets in front of that ball and Texas is still ahead.
Wow. I leave and they rally. Maybe I should leave again.
[537] He DORN'd it!
[529] EXCELLENT!
And I loves me some Brett Gardner.
[538] We'll go out by out for now ...
=)
[537] Young didn't have time to get in front of it.
[537] Michael Young is not a good fielder despite his Gold Glove at SS.
i was nervous before, about losing. now, i'm a giant stress ball about keeping the lead...
Kerry Wood scares the hell out of me.
Comeon Kerry
throw STRIKES!!!
Fuck.
Pleeease!!
Strikes!
nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
C'mon the fuck on!
3-0? Crap
Damnit Kerry
[542] I disagree. It almost hit him. He was afraid of it.
OH SHIT WOOD!
Daaaaaaaaaaamn. What's with Wood???
motherfucker.
is d-rob warming???
And so it starts...
Please, somebody shoot me.
I can't fucking take this.
I can't.
Now this is where Girardi loses the game for the Yankees. Logan should be in this game right now.
Jeez Louise.
I'm serious about this. Bring in Mo now. Can't give this game back.
GODFUCKINGDAMMIT WOOD!
WHAT DON'T YOU FUCKING UNDERSTAND ABOUT THROW FUCKING STRIKES!
GET HIM OUT
Six-out save? I don't know...
Can we bring Andy in to try to get the DP?
Disaster looming.
fucking crap.
strikes, motherfucker!
Agony.
Sheer agony.
i think I'm having a stroke
Logan, then Mo. Please.....Joe....
OOOHHHHH!!
YOU STUPID MOTHERFUCKER!!!
HAAAHAHAHA!!
Atta boy, Ian!
That helps
Ring-a-ding DING!!
Huge!
Napping!
Oh My God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a break!
whew!
very, very nice.
now get murphy here, please.
Ha-hah!
Flawlessly done.
Alright, Kerry. 2 more bb's. 2 more pick offs.
Totally froze him. He watched Wood throw over.
Wow. Huge out. 1/6 of their remaining "time" gone.
[563] well, we channeled Andy for the pickoff! ; )
Wood's last batter if he doesn't get him out.
"oh my"
Love it.
Kerry Wood is Kyle Farnsworth 2.0.
Hahahahahaa!!!! Yes, way to be aggressive Texas!
[579] Hahahahahaha...
Damn that 2-1 pitch to Murphy wasn't close. Has he been calling that all night? I haven't noticed.
[585] Did I not write that here that within an hour of him being acquired?
Was at 55% after the walk, now back to 67%.
[587] He just started. They need to get rid of that box. Just a constant reminder of how off the umps can be.
Am I wrong, or did Jeter tag Ian with his glove... while the ball was in his throwing hand?
[582] Jeez, no kidding!
[587] On and off. Its been on lately.
[587] Hell, it's how Murphy got the "-1"
yeah!
1 more, kerry.
[591] You're wrong. I hope.
1 more Kerry, 1 more.
One more Kerry
[585] I did
[552] To paraphrase Hersheiser: grab a glove, kid. They don't get to play it in the slo-mo you see at home.
He'd already "manned up" the moment he stood in at 3B with A-Rod at bat.
[591] The ball was in his glove.
Watch the bunt!
[594] Hard to keep up with comments and watch every pitch. Props to you who can do it. That's why I'm rarely here with you guys, but after CC's start I needed the companionship.
That is my now my second favorite pickoff all time. Number one is Mike Piazza getting picked off by Andy two steps off of first in the 2000 Series.
Not as close at the plate as I had thought.
[604] Very nice. I had forgotten about that.
Cliff, great minds think alike (well your mind is great, I'll just ride your coattails).
Btw, Cliff, could you close the open italics tag on the Show All page? I'd appreciate it.
If the Yanks can hold on, it can really take the wind out of the Rangers' sails.
DODGED ANOTHER BULLET!
yeah, kerry!!!
let's get some more geico runs for Mr. Mo!
Kerry Wood is John Wetteland 2.0, not Farnsworth.
Okay, MORE RUNS PLEASE
[604] That one was even better because Piazza was going n-o-w-h-e-r-e.
Let's tack on some runs here.
Holy fuck.
Wow.
Trying to breathe now...
The Gas Face.
Ok, I don't want to go on that Wood(en) Roller Coaster for a while now.
Hey, how about 6 or 7 runs here, just so I can relax?
[608] No, because I don't work here anymore. You have to find Alex . . .
The last inning has aged me terribly
Another run or two sure would be swell.
Texas with 9-1-2-Hamilton up in the 9th.
IT'S ALIVE!!!!!
[619] There should be some sort of Alex signal we can throw up
captain Jetes!!!
Please don't bunt Swish.
Omg.
If Derek hits...
I don't even know what to do.
We'll golden if Derek hits...
Nice! Jeter looks younger all of the sudden.... He's going Ben Button on us.
Wow...... Fucking Derek with another hit.
Jeter continues to be the old Derek Jeter against LHP.
No bunt.
[619] your absence is felt and your presence is missed...
Bad idea!
[626] You were saying?
Shows what I know.
Swing the MoDamn bat!
swish really doesn't need to be bunting...
Jeter vs LHP this year: .321/.393/.481.
Also, vs. Cliff Lee last two years (incl. World Series): .458/.519/.625 in 27 plate appearances
Oh fuck, Cornflake is bunting???
Le sigh.
Now hit away.
Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Just awful managing. Come on Joe.
idiot. pure idiocy. 29 homeruns.
fuck the heck?!?!?!?! : /
FUCK YOU GIRARDI, FUCK YOU IN A FIRE.
Yeah, that was dumb.
Day-amn, Jeets turned on that like Clinton was still president.
So was that a mercy out?
So, what managers wants to give the game away more? Incredible that we could see managing like this in the postseason.
All right, they'll just have to hit the ball.
Now: To reanimate Scooter so he can teach the pros how to fucking bunt.
On the bright side, we don't have to see Teix AND Alex fail with a man on third.
Texas' exes will get the job done.
god-flam-it!
And that's exhibit B why you don't bunt.
Teix kind of sucks for being such a great hitter. All of those freaking pop-ups.
mike maddux rockin' the zappa 'stache.
[655] Tex thrives when he is putting the ball in the air. All those pops up mean is a HR is coming.
[651] why is Alex going to come through?
c'mon A-rod!
knock in another...
Finish the chalupa!
That sucked.
Why in the name of fuck did Joe bunt Swisher?
Up to Rivera. Let's hope he has it tonight.
Well, I'm not ready for this
bollocks.
ok, Mo time.
please let it be of the easy 1-2-3 variety. i hope they don't show the replay of the game he blew here. (of course, they will...)
[661] TWICE
Even though I've only been in my 1st house 7 months, I'd be willing to bet it that this will not be a 1,2,3 inning.
[665] I know! Mindblowing.
That's how you wreck a rally with the bunt. With a better manager, Texas would have won this game and the Yankees probably would have had a bigger lead entering the ninth.
[666] You just bet your house against Mariano Rivera in post #666? Did you also throw a black cat through a mirror when you wrote that?
Rangers are hitless since the fourth.
[664] you know the geeks in the TBS truck have had that reel racked and ready all night.
i'm not watching this flashback...
William, next time try reverse psychology on Joe.
[666] The devil made you say that.
[661] Because he's Joe FUCKING Girardi.
It doesn't matter that Cornflake sucks balls at bunting, "the book" says bunt the runner over!
I'm way down on that Swish bunt, too. BULLSHIT, Joe. Can't get the picture of his stupid sign giving in the dugout. Bollocks!
Wait? Golson for defense, but he didnt PH to bunt?
that was a strike.
[677] Yeah, a puzzlement.
Did Girardi tell Swish to bunt, or was it Swisher's idea?
vcnjfsnv fd
gfvnkxlcnzdlxknfvcsjdfndfnb vcb cv
[670] stop that!
[669] Nothing comes easy, CC. SHIT!
Cano should have had that one.
Sixteen hopper up the middle.
Alright, [666] you get to keep your house.
I really thought Robby had that one.
Fuck, if you were going to bring Golson on for Swisher for defense in the bottom of the inning, WHY WOULDN'T YOU HAVE HIM PINCH BUNT FOR HIM?!?!?!?
Since, you know, Golson's probably about 100x better as a bunter than Swisher.
i hate this.
Cano usually gets that.
Only now does this have the potential to be a crippling loss.
Not an auspicious start to this inning. Come on, Mo.
[687] I might be wrong, but I think Golson blew a bunt earlier this year.
Strike two.
will he continue to bunt w/ 2 strikes? i'm guessing - yes...
HIGH CHEESE PLEASE!
Shit.
Good play Teix, that scared me....
fuck!
Two more Mo. No room for error.
whew.
1 down, 2 to go...
does Mo normally have something written under the bill of his cap? i don't really remember seeing that...
I'm not sure I can take this. You'd think with age I'd get used to this...
Ballsy bunt, but against Mo why not bunt with two strikes?
That was almost a major disaster.
Fuck, that was a nice pass.
Hamilton on deck....
Young was on that first pitch.
Another one.
Two good swings.
Dot that outside corner!
Need the K.
I think a lot of players write things under the bills of their hats for postseason games. Bible verses and stuff.
heart pounding.
Right now the TexasTattleBlog or whatever the shit is doing a lot less griping about the wisdom of bunts than you see here.
UMP, YOU'RE A FUCKHEAD!!1
WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHERE IN THE FUCK WAS THAT?!
Where was that?
Damn you blue box!
What was that?
BS
Shit.
Lock him up under the hands.
[712] Yawn.
717) strike three, ideally.
YES!!!!!
1 more!!!
Watching via my ps3, a few second behind and dear lord that was a strike. Fucking umps.
YAAAYAYYYYY!!!!
WHEW! One more.
k-k-k-k-k-k-k-k-k-k-k-k-k-k!
One more Mo. The hardest of them all though
Fuck!
Goddamn.
Classic showdown here.
The announcer is incapable of saying fourty.
Both Mo and Cousin Oliver are four years old.
2 out.
Fuck yeah. Ump can't call that a ball
Walk Hamilton? Trust Mo? Yeah, trust Mo.
yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yes Mo!
YAH!!
YAAAYAYAYYYYYYYY
!!!!!!!!!1
WHEW!
Easy Peasy.
All Rise!
BOOM BAP
WOW!!!! WAHOO!!!!!!!!!
Thanks be to Mo!!!
good thing this wasn't a stressful game... : ~
Now that's a game.
Great win
Universe: Aligned. Nite all
I don't know why I even think about doubting this man
All praise be to Mo.
Good night, folks. Gotta go listen to Sterling's wrapup.
729) but not a classic showdown performance...but I'll take it!
Give it up for Dustin "Ramiro" Moseley. Dude was nails.
good win, team.
i certainly cannot have gotten thru it without you all.
cheers!
WE WON!!
WE WON!!!
WE WON THAT MOTHERFUCKER!!
HA!
WE WON WE WON WE WON!!!!!!!
The Washington Bunch jumped the shark when Cousin Oliver was brought into pitch. And Lil' Brett. Man! What a crazy game.
Oh, and that Cano homer? That was the winning run (in a way).
Mariano Rivera, ladies and gentlemen. Mariano Rivera.
Dustin FUCKING Moseley, bitches!!!!
[748] true dat! he definitely deserves props.
This was only one game?
I feel like it was Game 7.
Jesus, I'm spent.
Wrung dry.
There's more of this?
Yankees are 32-11 in a postseason series when winning the first game. I like that fact much better.
Holy Shit!!!!!!
YES!!!!!!!!!!
Nice looking graph here,
http://www.fangraphs.com/lgraphs/20101015_Yankees_Rangers_0_84_lbig_.png
Holy hell, what a game.
I'm exhausted, but too worked up to sleep.
I went to sleep after the 6th - are you fucking kidding me?
16 hours.
I'm exhausted
Cano broke the seal, and the Yankees woke up from suspended animation. CC must be thanking his lucky stars that he is a Yankee.
GREAT FRACKIN" GAME!! I am really impressed by that win. Woo hoo! (game just finished for me on slight dvr delay)
Can't sleep for a while after that.
I know, I know, 99.99999% of the credit to the players.
But that last little percent?
Lucky shower and shave, game on radio, spanish tv in the other window - lucky shirt and shorts went on, and the rally started!!!!
Few things on earth could have gotten me to switch a single thing up once that got going.
That was spectacular. And unbelievable. From the dead!!!
[763] exhausting game. I'm kinda glad i fast forwarded through a few bottom half innings.
How 'bout that Derek Jeter?
If you ask me, he made the difference.
Because we expect nothing from him and he really made things happen.
That first double was the inning. We all expected him to make an out but he didn't, he laced a double instead.
If he can be productive...
Gardner seems ok but he did just say that cj did step on his hand. What a great game for Robbie! So happy right now!
[768] yes, you are right. I can't remember jeter pulling balls and hitting them so hard that much this season. It was really nice and huge in this game!
let's not forget Gritner's hustle and dive into 1st base. a bit better than Mekly!
My neck is *killing* me!
I must hold all my body's stress there.
And I need to sleep.
But who can sleep after that?
Fuck, man.
Baseball.
[761] Are you kidding us? You went to sleep?!
Sorry for offending some of you with a reference to CC's bounty - and for the curse of the italics, which somehow I inflicted on the thread.
But it was NO CURSE! The boon of the mystery italics!!!
Dustin! Robbie for the "zombie shaking the dirt off" homer! Wood for the heart attack! Mo for the Close!
Exclamation points for everybody!!!!!!
Since it was New York that just beat Texas, maybe W will now order an invasion of New Zealand...oh wait, its too late for him to kill more of our children.
[771] Aww, poor, hapless Mellky. Yes, indeed, props to our man Brett!
[772] i hope you can get a massage.
[771] that play was so awesome. I saw the first baseman hestitate and was just thinking "maybe he can get there" and then the dive!!!
1 hit, 1 walk in 5 innings, from our bullpen!
My Righetti t-shirt comes thru again!
Anyone see the 3b (non) reaction on Arod's 2R single? Oof.
[768] Jeter can be productive as long as he gets to face lefty pitching.
[772] i keep my stress in my shoulders.
[773] It appears Mo Howard needed the Washington bump that he referred to.
Bet Ron Washington goes back on the crack pipe tonite!
Kudos to middle relief. And Mo is Mo.
Rocket Robbie is simply awesome.
If you had told me in March that Dustin Moseley would pick up a win in the ALCS my brain would have exploded. Does. Not. Compute.
Washington is such a wizard - love that Kinsler was running. Still laughing over that one.
[788] Lol. My thoughts exactly.
Wood's pick-off was the ultimate momentum killer.
[788] Well... you know... you just can't predict baseball. You just can't.
Mwahahahhaaha
I swear that in my Haftorah portion from all the way back in 1964 there was something about Ian Kinsler getting picked off in the 8th inning on Shabbos.
I just want to point out that the Banter was a little different around posts 50-550. Jeter's career was finished, Mosely was the white flag, Cano's solo shot was something not to care about, CC was not the big man but the grotesque rotund one, and so much more. Oh ye of little faith...never count the Yankees out with a gettable run total and many innings to do it.
Never underestimate the magic.
Dear Rangers Fans: The next time you yell your "Yankees suck" cheer, you might want to make sure the game is already over.
Sincerely, the Yankees Fans
[793] i'm glad i missed that. i love you guys and gals but those negativity stretches get under my skin.
Goddamn, Robbie roped that ball up the middle.
What hands that man has.
[794] best chant ever because it's a blatant acknowledgement of how awesome the Yankees are.
Awesome game, gang. I was "with people", but just wanted to chime it. If Sabathia spots you 5 runs and you still lose, it's gotta hurt.
Good!
[788] Moseley deserves it... he pitched a great two innings. No hits, no walks, four strikeouts.
[793] If you look at the graph at [759], you could just flip it upside down and Title it Optimism. There you have it.
Think YES will show this game on Yankee Classics on Sunday?
I wonder if Bush was more disappointed tonight or when they couldn't find the weapons of mass destruction?
I was at work tonight, keeping an eye on the game and occasionally jumping into my office and checking the thread.
When so many here were on the ledge at 5-0, I smiled and thought - "Relax, knowing these teams, the Yanks could still win this thing." Just had a hunch - as a Met fan co-worker said tonight when the Yanks came to life, "I've seen this movie before."
802) review the posting guidelines...knock it off...let's not ruin a fun Yankees baseball moment with unnecessary political bullshit.
Yay Yankees! can't wait until tomorrow.
[804] seriously dude [802] was hilarious. That's not unnecessary political bullshit, it's humor.

Let’s go Yankees! It has to start here, it has to start now.
Wow, big talk from Kay: "This series is over."
[804] commenting guidelines say, "thank you for not ... preaching about partisan politics or religion..." I wouldn't say that [802] was preaching. It was a factual statement made in humor of the context of the Rangers spitting the bit.
[806] agreed...it was funny. It wasn't like you went on a rant about Bush when they showed him....and it was factual b/c he didn't find WMDs.
Hey Ken Boyer, I just hijacked your comment and made it my facebook status...
Ron Washington needs to do his U.N. Jefferson impression and say his clubhouse needs wonder doobies.
[810] Good to go.
[802] Actually, I thought to say that Bush should have looked in the Yankees dugout!
[813] Now that; is funny.
6-5 = Nice.
