"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

What’s it Gunna Be?

Yanks look to return home, up 2-0. Simple as this: Rangers win, it’s a series, Cliff Lee going in Game Three.

Yanks win, the Rangers are in the soup.

Gravy time for the Scoretruck, don’t you think? That’s why it’s all about Mr. Hughes. Go git ’em, kid and…

Let’s Go Yan-Kees!

I'm ready for a nice easy Yankee win

2 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:08 pm

Let's go

3 FreddySez   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:09 pm

Take. A. Pitch.

4 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:10 pm

these shadows are gonna make something goofy happen at some point

5 mhoward120   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:18 pm

Thats one shitty ump call.

6 mhoward120   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:18 pm

Maybe not.

7 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:20 pm

Jeez.

8 Just Fair   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:21 pm

Well that's a missed strike 3. That one was better than Young's. OY!

9 Just Fair   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:25 pm

Great pitch. If Phil can keep hitting that spot he's in damn fine shape.

10 monkeypants   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:26 pm

Smokin' pitch to Vlad. Now let's get out of this...

11 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:26 pm

what the fuck was that?

12 monkeypants   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:26 pm

Why why why why why why why why why throw through?

13 Just Fair   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:27 pm

Well that's fucking terrible. Obviously.

14 FreddySez   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:27 pm

Jorge just got laps on my HS team for throwing through there. Fer chrissake.

15 mhoward120   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:28 pm

Muy loco, Jorge!

16 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:28 pm

Incredible that the Yankees could fall victim to such an obvious play.

17 bartap   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:28 pm

I don't get it. From the replay, it looked like Hamilton was clearly out and if Cano simply put down the tag, they would have gotten the third out before Andrus scored. What am I missing?

18 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:29 pm

Jorge should have never thrown through, but Hamilton got too close. Cano could have simply tagged him before Andrus scored. Both Posada, Hamilton and Cano pulled a rock on the same play.

19 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:30 pm

Thanks for allowing us to come from behind again! Great Omen! It's all good. Phil is lock in with his fastball!

20 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:30 pm

[12] I think Jorge was just excited to actually throw someone out.

21 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:31 pm

This is the Yankees, so we all should relax today and enjoy the ball game without trying to sweat it out!

22 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:33 pm

Lewis has a bigger zone than Hughes

23 bartap   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:33 pm

If the TBS box is correct, the ump's missing quite a few calls.

24 bartap   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:33 pm

[22] wonder why there's no discussion of that from the booth.

25 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:34 pm

More teams ought to try to steal 2nd with a man on 3rd who has speed! I can see Bret G. doing that as well!

26 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:35 pm

Hughsey-Lewis and the News!

27 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:35 pm

Damn, just missed it.

28 RIYank   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:35 pm

[17] Yeah that's what I thought. (I came to check in here to see if others agreed.)

29 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:35 pm

I've had enough of this not hitting Colby Lewis nonsense.

30 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:36 pm

damn. robbie just missed it.

that steal play was fucking brutal.

31 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:37 pm

[17] jeter woulda made that kind of heads up play.

nice hit, swish.

32 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:37 pm

The Yanks just have a light batting practice against the pitcher the first time around, but we all know about the 2nd & 3rd time, our batters will be into their bull pen sooner or later!

Good hit Swish! We will put points on the board TODAY! Watch!

33 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:38 pm

make up for it, Po - run scoring hit now.

34 RIYank   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:38 pm

[30] Also the cheapie hit that started it, also the blown strike three call to Hamilton...

35 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:38 pm

Ah, the always classy "Yankees" suck chant.

36 yankintexas   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:39 pm

Hopefully Posada has met his quota for the day.

37 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:39 pm

Lewis will be gotten to TODAY! Watch! This kid will start missing because our batters know how to be patient!

38 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:40 pm

[37] Well, if not today, I don't know when...

39 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:41 pm

Colby Cheese is starting to show the holes!

40 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:42 pm

Rats.

41 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:42 pm

fuck!

smoked it. no luck...

42 RIYank   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:42 pm

Damn.

[26] I need a new drug.

43 Just Fair   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:42 pm

SHIT. Lots o' Rockets. Hold 'em down, Phil.

44 Chyll Will   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:42 pm

Sigh, if we lose by one run, Jorge's got some 'splainin' to do...

45 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:42 pm

They're hitting him harder

46 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:42 pm

No problem fellas. We just warming up:>)

47 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:43 pm

they'll get to him

48 mhoward120   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:44 pm

Not concerned about scoring runs today - more worried about Hughes's pitch count, now.

49 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:44 pm

44. Please don't start that negative BS! Its just one run and they may get more, but I see us getting at least 7 runs today!

50 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:45 pm

Not worried bout hughes pitch count when we have a decent bull pen!

51 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:47 pm

Ump is tight today and it doesn't see like he's giving up any inside corner call for strikes!

52 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:48 pm

oh no.

53 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:48 pm

Shit.

54 RIYank   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:48 pm

Oy.
Pitch count may not be the problem.

55 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:48 pm

Well that's annoying

56 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:48 pm

ok now i'm aggravated

57 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:48 pm

No problem. Dang he CRUSH THAT!

58 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:48 pm

[51] He will if you're name is Lewis

59 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:49 pm

Phil Hughes gets beat the same way every time. He nibbles to a 2-0 or 3-1 and then gives up a HR on a strike down the middle. Just a very poor approach.

60 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:49 pm

Fellas,

WE ARE THE BRONX BOMBERS, NO NEED to SWEAT! HAHAHA!

61 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:50 pm

[59] I don't like to call it nibbling.

62 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:51 pm

Texas already knows that no lead is safe!

63 bartap   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:52 pm

[62] Which team are you rooting for? Just curious.

64 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:52 pm

jesus christ, enough with the hits.

65 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:53 pm

Does Mitre have a few good innings in him today?

66 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:53 pm

I could have lived with a hit that took out Angel Hernandez

67 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:53 pm

fuckin' hell.

68 RIYank   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:53 pm

Damn, he was good in the first. I wonder what happened.

69 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:53 pm

I really don't like Michael Young

70 monkeypants   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:54 pm

This is turning not good.

71 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:54 pm

Phucking phuck.

72 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:54 pm

umm...the security guard...

73 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:54 pm

Righties have been shooting opposite all game and no adjustment.

74 mhoward120   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:54 pm

Could Burnett be any worse than Sabathia and Hughes?

75 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:54 pm

it's really loud in tex-ass.

76 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:55 pm

This has disaster written all over it

77 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:55 pm

RI's favorite move.

78 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:55 pm

this is gonna end badly

79 RIYank   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:55 pm

I hate this move.

80 monkeypants   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:55 pm

[74] Yes.

81 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:56 pm

[74] yes

82 RIYank   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:56 pm

[77] [79] Heh.

83 RIYank   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:57 pm

Happy to be wrong.

84 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:57 pm

Okay. 3-0 is doable.

85 Yankee Mama   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:57 pm

Ok. Could've been worse.

86 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:57 pm

ok good my reverse jinx worked

ok time to get some runs off of this Yakult Swallows reject

87 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:57 pm

63. Still not SWEATING! Man, I'm born and raised in the Bronx since 64! Served 26 years in the service representing NY Yankees for years against Yankee haters, so I've learned NOT to panic and trip because the game is never over when you know who you ARE! So, I'm not SWEATING!

That's why it's much sweeter when we come back and silence the CROWD and Naysayers!

88 monkeypants   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:57 pm

OK, not *as* disastrous as it could have been. Now this inning the offense finds some gaps.

89 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:57 pm

a bloop & a blast, then another bloop & a blast and we're winning!

90 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 4:57 pm

Girardi could really regret going with Hughes in Game 2. Now, you can't have C.C. and Andy pitch 5 games.

91 mhoward120   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:00 pm

(74) I agree with the answers to my question - and thats what scares the hell out of me.

92 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:00 pm

[90] I really think it was the right move.

93 Yankee Mama   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:00 pm

[90] Girardi couldn't have figured that Hughes would struggle in a stadium that he dominated.

94 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:01 pm

90. It was meant to go down this way. This could have happen to Andy too and you would be saying that Hughes should have pitch!

95 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:03 pm

Sterling reads the Banter!

"I know I get kidded about 'you can't predict baseball,' but..."

96 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:04 pm

My kid, matter-of-factly: "Three nothing? Well, they're going to come back 'cause they're the Yankees so, doesn't really matter."

97 RIYank   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:04 pm

The zone really isn't all that small in the top half of the inning.

98 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:04 pm

[90] can't blame him for starting him in a stadium where he's dominated coming off his best start of the year

99 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:05 pm

[98] And setting up Pettitte against Lee in 3 and 7

100 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:05 pm

Jeter pulling off a Gritner.

Show/Hide Comments 101-200
101 RIYank   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:06 pm

Seriously, the moving strike zone is absurd.

102 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:06 pm

The Lewis zone is pissing me off

103 monkeypants   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:06 pm

Jeter with the bloop (well, dribbler). Now Grandy with the blast?

104 RIYank   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:07 pm

[103] No, we want the Carousel.

105 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:08 pm

wat

106 RIYank   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:08 pm

That'll do.

107 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:09 pm

wow bad call, but I'll take it

108 RIYank   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:09 pm

OMG.
Curtis got some lessons from Jetes, huh?

109 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:09 pm

I'll take that.

110 monkeypants   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:09 pm

OK, Teix, let's make it a new ball game.

111 RIYank   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:09 pm

In real time I was certain it hit him. I guess because it didn't bounce straight.

112 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:09 pm

98. I feel YAH!

113 bartap   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:10 pm

That pitch did NOT hit him.

114 RIYank   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:10 pm

FUCK. FUCK.

WAAAY high.

115 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:10 pm

TEX is bout to DELIVER!

116 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:10 pm

Getting annoyed

117 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:10 pm

crap.

c'mon A-rod, tie this fucking game!

118 monkeypants   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:10 pm

Well, Teix, that was most certainly not a blast.

119 RIYank   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:11 pm

Did anyone call the IF Fly Rule?

120 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:11 pm

My bad. Ok. Arod is bout to DELIVER! Lol

121 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:11 pm

Jesus Christ its never was Colby Lewis. HIT HIM.

122 Just Fair   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:11 pm

lame

123 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:12 pm

total fucking bollocks.

124 RIYank   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:12 pm

Grrrr.

I'm gonna go cook. Maybe that will fix the problems.

125 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:12 pm

Dang! MY BOYS let me DOWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN! Lol

126 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:12 pm

Lewis has thrown so many hittable pitches that the Yankees have done nothing with. Tex and Arod have to pick it up because eventually the Yankees aren't going to be able to keep coming back from behind.

127 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:13 pm

124. I'm bout to do the same. Lil breakfast should help a brother out!

128 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:13 pm

[124] what's for dinner, maestro?

129 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:14 pm

[126] A-Rod is off his game. No patience.

130 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:14 pm

[93] [98] We are talking about 15 innings, 6 1/3 of which came in a 2007 start. I'd like to think Girardi would put more stock in Pettitte's much larger body of work.

131 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:15 pm

Somebody is going to get thrown out of this game. The ump has be absolutely atrocious.

132 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:15 pm

Hughes has dirt nothing.

133 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:15 pm

Oy.

134 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:16 pm

motherfucker.

135 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:16 pm

Are Posada and Hughes going to adjust to the righties going the other way, or keep serving it up for them?

136 monkeypants   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:16 pm

Uh-oh. Phil is getting smacked around some more. Settle down and get through five.

137 mhoward120   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:16 pm

Too bad this game wasn't on Fox - then we wouldn't have to see this abomination.

138 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:17 pm

And it's too early to start drinking.

139 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:17 pm

[130] I think by setting up Pettitte for a) the most important game of any series, and b) a potential game 7 on the road he IS putting more stock into his body of work

140 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:18 pm

[130] For whatever its worth, Pettitte gets belted around in Arlington

141 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:19 pm

holy fucking crap.

hughes has nuthin'...

142 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:19 pm

[135] That answer it for you?

143 Just Fair   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:19 pm

Make that FIVE 2 strike hits. That's not good. ; (

144 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:19 pm

[142] wrong post

145 Yankee Mama   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:19 pm

David Murphy is a punk.

146 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:19 pm

Awful job by Hughes...but he is still young and inexperienced, and really shouldn't be someone the Yankees are relying upon in two games.

147 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:19 pm

What are they saying?

148 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:20 pm

oh my fucking god.

this is brutal.

149 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:20 pm

Molinas are dangerous in the postseason.

150 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:20 pm

128. Man, I just warmed up some leftover fish & biscuits. Cookin take too much time while the game is on! The wife doing her hair, so you know how that is when you wake up late! Lol

Ok Yanks, ENOUGH is ENOUGH!

Now maybe another comeback is in the making! Joe need to make a move NOW!

151 monkeypants   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:21 pm

all strike outs in the first, a bunch of singles in the second, all doubles in the third. Not a good trajectory.

152 Just Fair   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:21 pm

Last night is officially big.

153 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:21 pm

Phil, just set up the fucking tee for them. Get it over with.

154 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:21 pm

lose today. lose vs. cliff lee. lose 'coz of aj. lose 'coz cc is a little lost lately.

fuck.

155 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:21 pm

Jesusfuckingchrist.

What a dogshit start from Hughes.

GET HIM FUCKING OUT OF THE GAME GODDAMMIT.

156 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:21 pm

Batting practice.

157 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:22 pm

I did say we will get 7 RUNS today!

158 mhoward120   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:22 pm

Maybe we should take some comfort in the idea that we could be going home down 2-0 to face Lee on Monday.

159 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:22 pm

[139] Why is game 3 more important than this one? And if you had C.C. on three days rest, he would be set up for an all important game 7. Instead, the Yankees not either use CC three times and Andy once or each lefty twice. That mistake could prove costly in this series.

160 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:22 pm

155. Please don't use the Lord name in vain! Thanks!

161 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:22 pm

This is so much worse than Sabathia last night

162 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:23 pm

Hughes is horseshit today.

163 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:25 pm

[159] well taking issue with having a 4 man rotation and with Hughes starting game 2 are two different things.

I think in a 7 game series game 3 is usually the turning point game, especially when you consider there is a good chance this thing will be 1-1 on Monday night.

164 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:25 pm

I got up at 5 AM for this? Maybe I should lay down and go with the radio for awhile...see if that changes our luck.

165 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:26 pm

With the day off tomorrow, I think you *have* to pull Hughes now and see if the bullpen can hold the Rangers down the rest of the game.

166 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:26 pm

Robbie feels good.

167 Just Fair   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:26 pm

Rocket Robbie gets it rolling again.

168 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:26 pm

good start, robbie.

cute blonde in the purple...

169 monkeypants   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:26 pm

time to start chipping away.

170 Just Fair   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:27 pm

SQUEEZE.
just kidding : )

[163] I am not taking issue with the 4-man. I just think C.C. should have been slated for 1, 4 and 7, with Pettite going 2 and 6 on full days rest. Burnett and Hughes should have been given 3 and 5, respectively.

172 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:27 pm

It's OUR TIME to start CUTTING into the LEAD! No lead is safe when it comes to the BRONX BOMBERS!

I'm glad Cano is on 3rd so Nick can swing AWAY!

173 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:27 pm

Wait, maybe not.

174 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:27 pm

[163] Hughes was also better on the road overall this year, so setting him up for two road starts wasn't such a bad idea

175 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:28 pm

Ron, its not hard to maintain a strikezone when you don't really have one

176 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:28 pm

Jesus H Christ on a popsicle stick, Colby Lewis is so damn hittable, let's GO

177 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:28 pm

What on fucking earth were you looking for Nick?

C'mon Jorgie.

Fuck You, blue. That was apparently a ball to Hamilton in the first.

180 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:29 pm

Come on Swish you need to guard the plate with 2 strikes! The ump is not our friend! If its close, SWING!

181 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:30 pm

Got to get this run home

182 Just Fair   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:30 pm

Wow! Can't believe Jorge!

185 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:30 pm

The Yankees entire approach in this game makes it seem like they were the ones who blew a five run lead last night. Very tight.

186 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:30 pm

Unbelievable. Man on third, no outs and we won't score?

202 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:32 pm

Did the Yankees think the Rangers were going to just give this game away? They've played with their heads up their you know what.

203 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:32 pm

so I tweeted to Feinsand if he thought there would be a big crowd at the stadium next year when Jeter makes his return as a Blue Jay...and he re-tweeted it. and the great unwashed masses of twitter took it seriously, and now I think I'm gonna have to join witness protection.

just thought I'd share

210 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:34 pm

I think I'd pull Hughes here and have him come back in game 5, which would remedy Girardi's initial error.

211 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:35 pm

[203] Heh. Nice to see people using twitter for evil.

This is one of the worst called games I can remember seeing. The righties are bending over to go to the opposite field, and all Posada/Hughes throw are outside fastballs. Might as well set up a tee.

How many times are the Yankees going to take a fat strike two or three today?

257 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:50 pm

Yanks can ill afford to have Tex fall into another post season slump, especially if Arod is going to play like a mortal.

261 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 5:53 pm

If Rangers are able to win this game, I think it does more good for them heading to New York than if they won yesterday and lost today.

283 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:01 pm

UnbeFUCKINGlievable.

If you don't want to read people bitch about their team being behind in a game or losing a game (god forbid), my recommendation is just stay the fuck away from the internet. It will cut down on your frustration with such things about 1000%, according to my calculations.

285 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:02 pm

292 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:06 pm

One of the following has to happen for the Yankees to win this series now....they have to get one game from Lee, or AJ has to win a game. That's why going with Hughes was a big gamble that looks like a pretty bad one right now.

293 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:06 pm

[284] Yes! Banter keeps me from venting all my Girardi angst to Mrs. Jazz..whose interest lastas about half an inning...

298 The Hawk   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:08 pm

[292] I honestly don't think Hughes was a big gamble. I thought the odds were very good that he'd pitch better than he did. I mean I expected, I believe realistically, a "quality start", at least.

299 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:08 pm

300 Just Fair   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:09 pm

301 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:09 pm

Maybe, I sould have meant they wouldn't get anymore than 7 runs or we need 7 runs to win! Come on # SEVEN!

302 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:11 pm

[298] The gamble is more about putting yourself in a position where you can't use C.C. and Andy five times.

Also, everyone talks about the Rangers righty laden lineup, but they were much better against righties. Furthermore, when Hughes went on long rest, he always had a bad start. Had they slated him for game 5, he could have given an inning in 1 or 2, which seemed to work very well when he did that over the last few weeks. Finally, the only pitch against which the Rangers are well above average is the fastball, which is what Hughes features.

I really think Girardi's rotation setup was a big mistake. With Andy up against Lee, the Yankees could be in big trouble now.

303 PickNY   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:12 pm

339 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:31 pm

Washington tried to give the Yankees another gift, but they wouldn't take it this time.

340 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:35 pm

Soooooooo glad Girardi fucked around with Hughes and dropped us another 2 runs behind.

341 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:37 pm

Drill Hamilton in the ribs.

342 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:39 pm

oh great...is Robertson's pants gonna become a "thing" now??

343 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:45 pm

what a "shrug" game...fug.

344 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:47 pm

hmmm...

345 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:50 pm

[343] More of a "stabbity" game for me.

346 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:52 pm

Teixeira's postseason struggles have become a major concern.

347 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:53 pm

terrible, Tex. just terrible.

348 JeremyM   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:53 pm

Ugh Teix. You're killing me.

349 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:54 pm

Goddammit Alex, SHORT AND TO THE BALL.

350 JeremyM   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:54 pm

Do Rangers fans realize that Arlington was the blasting zone for steroids in baseball? Juan, Raf, Jose, and Ivan ring a bell?

351 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:56 pm

can we please capitalize on this and make it 7-5?!

352 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:56 pm

Oopsies!

353 Eirias   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:57 pm

Has the Rangers' fans' hate finally kicked in the Yankees' innate "Fuck You" power?

354 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:59 pm

fuck off, blue.

355 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 16, 2010 6:59 pm

Robot. Umpire. Overlords.

356 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:00 pm

that's it. game over. once again. soon, it'll be for real...

357 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:00 pm

358 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:00 pm

[351] Evidentally, no

359 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:00 pm

[355] i think you mean: Overlorde. you know, from Jersey! ; )

i'm about to post something awesome for you...

360 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:01 pm

if Cano refuses to get a hit every time up, then the Yankees are going to have to stop falling behind by five runs.

361 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:04 pm

This team needs a Code Red.

362 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:07 pm

'One of the brand new exclusive collectible pieces available on the Dio web store is an autographed limited edition baseball, presented in a display case (only two thousand were produced). Each piece is numbered, and features Ronnie's Dio logo and autograph. It was well-known to many Dio fans that Ronnie loved baseball, and it was his dream to play in the major leagues. He was once quoted saying he would trade in his rockstar career for one playing with the Yankees!'

363 JeremyM   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:08 pm

The chess match commences.

364 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:08 pm

[362] Heh.

Unfortunately, after the Eddie Gaedel stunt, MLB banned midgets from stunt at bats!

I keed, I KEED!!!

=)

365 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:09 pm

frenchy gave that a ride. also, he needs to shave.

366 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:09 pm

ok good...because if Jeff Francoeur hit a home run in this game I probably would've just thrown my tv out onto 1st avenue

367 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:10 pm

[364] yeah, isn't that pretty amazing. my brother has been a lifelong dio fan. he's read all the books, bios, interviews, etc. and never ever heard a single bit about this. really cool factoid!

368 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:11 pm

[364] oh, and he's not a midget. he's an elf!!! : )

369 JeremyM   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:13 pm

[364] Ha, Eddie Gaedel has a great wiki entry. Check this out:

In response, Veeck threatened to request an official ruling on whether Yankees shortstop and reigning MVP Phil Rizzuto was a short ballplayer or a tall midget.

370 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:18 pm

Posada has had a pretty awful ALCS.

371 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:19 pm

Alright, Big Puma is going to do something good here!

372 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:19 pm

[370] No kidding. The middle of the order bats (sans Cano) have been as awful as the starting pitching.

Dreadful.

373 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:20 pm

Fuck.

374 JeremyM   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:22 pm

The killer for me is that Lewis really didn't impress. They had some hard hit outs, but overall, they didn't do much. Other than Cano of course.

375 randym77   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:24 pm

Drat.

Walk didn't haunt.

376 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:25 pm

[374] Lewis hung so many pitches, I felt like going to get one of my bays from the trunk of my car. I hope I see some pitches like those tomorrow morning.

377 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:27 pm

evening folks .... I watched most of the game on my phone ... blech.

378 bartap   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:31 pm

What makes this especially faithful is that the common wisdom treats a Texas win in Game 3 as a foregone conclusion. If we can't score on Colby Lewis, the other CL is going to be much harder.

379 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:33 pm

Yay, it's Sergio.

380 seamus   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:33 pm

Hey folks. Lewis kind of sucked and I can't believe we only scored two off of him. I do think that the Rangers have had ridiculously generous strike zones in both games. But our pitchers don't seem to get the same calls. With that said, we've had plenty of opportunities to get runs in and we simply failed. And we are likely to lose because Hughes sucked. alas...

381 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:36 pm

If you told me that the Yankees would pitch Moseley in game 1 and Mitre in game 2 and still be tied 1-1 in the series going back to New York, I'd have to think it was a miracle ...

382 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:40 pm

Foul me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on Posada.

383 JeremyM   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:41 pm

Well, we see why Hughes was left in at all costs earlier.

384 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:42 pm

[381] It is, oh, it is.

385 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:46 pm

[383] Yes, god forbid we allowed the bullpen to blank the Rangers for the second straight day and keep us in the game ...

386 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:46 pm

Jeter is sad to watch.

387 seamus   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:51 pm

[386] yeah this 5 game hitting streak in the playoffs is getting annoying. ?

388 seamus   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:52 pm

We could have won this game today. But even Robbie didn't come through when he had 2 on.

389 seamus   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:53 pm

nice AB Tex.

390 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:53 pm

Molinas truly are dangerous this time of year -- to everyone.

391 seamus   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:54 pm

[390] yeah that was bizarre

392 seamus   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:56 pm

Arod has looked bad today. None of his at bats looked good.

393 randym77   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:59 pm

Drat. Almost...

394 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:59 pm

Alright. just regroup and wrap this thing up at home.

395 rbj   ~  Oct 16, 2010 7:59 pm

Rats. Fucking rats.

396 JeremyM   ~  Oct 16, 2010 8:00 pm

[385] Well, I was referring to how bad Mitre looked- but you're right!

397 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 8:00 pm

[387] You can focus on the five game hitting streak (infield singles and bloops among them), but I am more concerned by his inability to hit anythign resembling a decent right hander.

398 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 16, 2010 8:15 pm

This team had better wake the fuck up. They've been better than the Rangers for about 1 goddamn inning in 2 games and they're likely looking at a 2-1 deficit come Monday.

399 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 16, 2010 8:23 pm

[398] You know, I'm tired of hearing about the unbeatable Cliff Lee. If they can get to Sabathia we can get to Lee. I'm going on the record saying that we win on Monday and win the series in five.

400 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 16, 2010 8:34 pm

[399] Sure, but "they" didn't "get to" Sabathia. Sabathia took a giant fucking dump on the mound for 4 innings.

If Lee shows up Monday and takes a similar size dump, I'll be happy for our chances; actually "beating" a Lee that *is* on his game, is going to take a lot more than this team has shown in the last 18 innings.

[399] yeah, let's let lee beat 'em before we count the loss. i think the yanks win the next one, too.

NPUT
