Lee is great but his stats in Texas were nothing special..He's no 1986 Mike Scott, we can beat this guy!

Yanks 4 (2 off Lee, 2 of Pen) Tejas 3

Mo shuts the door 1-2-3 in the 9th.

2 Evil Empire   ~  Oct 18, 2010 6:57 pm

Ugh I don't want to be down 2 to 1 with AJ set to blow up tomorrow.

3 Sliced Bread   ~  Oct 18, 2010 7:02 pm

We'll love you this winter, Cliff Lee. But tonight, we have no choice but to hit you with the Score Truck. Hard. See you on the hotstove, kid. Now, duck!

4 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 18, 2010 7:08 pm

Lee will surrender to the Yankees.

Chairman Mo will restore order.

5 joe   ~  Oct 18, 2010 7:34 pm

It's sure nice to see some more baseball at Yankee Stadium

6 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 7:43 pm

I predicted (on the poll posted a few days ago) that the Rangers would win in seven games. I know, traitorous. Anyway, I think both tonight's and tomorrow's games will turn out differently than expected.

7 PickNY   ~  Oct 18, 2010 7:44 pm

Alright Fellas, I know I'm going to get some great play by play action report, since I have to work:(
All I have is my iPhone to get me by tonight:( it's all good:)

8 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:04 pm

For those of you at the game with connectivity, who and where?

9 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:10 pm

Good play, Andy. Go Yankees!

10 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:11 pm

Good start.

11 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:13 pm

Hello, gang.

12 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:14 pm

Great AB by Young. Let's get Hamilton, PLEASE

13 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:15 pm

Did someone hear anything about the first base umpire being a balk caller? Thought I heard something on the radio.

14 rbj   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:15 pm

Shit!

15 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:15 pm

that was Damonesque .... :-(

16 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:17 pm

Dang

17 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:17 pm

I sure love waiting 48 hours for a game only to have it shit all over my face in a matter of 10 minutes.

18 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:18 pm

Arod needs to answer.

19 moismycopilot   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:18 pm

Well, that's an inauspicious start.

20 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:18 pm

Are you FUCKING kidding me?

And ... Cashman's right. The Rangers *did* outplay the Yankees for about 90% of the innings down in Arlington.

Coming back tied 1-1 was a bloody miracle given how poorly the starter's pitched and most of the bats hit.

21 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:19 pm

[17] DId you think this would not be tortuous no matter the outcome?

22 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:19 pm

Let's hope Lee just doesn't have it for once.

23 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:19 pm

[18] Right on!

That was a big mistake pitch to Hamilton, but 2 runs shouldn't faze us.

24 Evil Empire   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:19 pm

That feels like ballgame with Lee pitching.

25 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:20 pm

Lee is not going to dominate tonight. I'm not saying the Yankees will win...but the game will not go according to script.

26 Jon DeRosa   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:20 pm

texas 6-0 in the first inning this series, and scored in all three games.

27 JeremyM   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:21 pm

It ain't over yet, but yeah, that stunk. You live with the short porch, you die with the short porch.

28 rbj   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:21 pm

Rangers are hitting to RF. The single, HR & flyout were all to right.

29 JeremyM   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:23 pm

[28] They picked up on Andy's game plan pretty quick. Not sure pitching to right is the way to go at the Stadium, but what do I know?

30 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:23 pm

A 3-2 count! Against Lee!

31 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:24 pm

Damn...just off the end of the bat.

32 moismycopilot   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:24 pm

Not a bad at-bat by the Captain. It's nice to see him taking pitches again.

33 yankintexas   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:26 pm

[25] Great then that must mean both ARod and Tex show up.

34 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:29 pm

You know whats going to be a lot of fun? Watching the Yankees take the first two pitches against Cliff Lee all night.

35 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:29 pm

more of the same from tex. it's really frustrating.

36 Jon DeRosa   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:30 pm

yankees 9 up, 9 down in the first this series. three 1,2,3 innings. so sick of this.

37 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:32 pm

[36] Do they have a first inning hit in the playoffs?

38 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:32 pm

[34] That won't be fun, all he throws are strikes.

39 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:32 pm

[29] Considering that the Yankees pitching play has been pitching the Rangers away for the entire series, and the Rangers have been leaning out and smacking the outside pitch, I wonder WTF they're thinking, short porch or no.

Outside pitches aren't shit if the batter doesn't fear you coming inside.

40 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:33 pm

[38] Indeed.

41 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:33 pm

that was better

42 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:34 pm

[41] oops i thought that was 3 outs. doh!

43 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:35 pm

Good. Now score some flippin' runs.

44 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:35 pm

there we go! ok. we need a-rod to get on base and give robbie a chance to blast one.

45 yankintexas   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:36 pm

[29] Unfortunately the yankees seem to be dead last when it comes to in-game strategy.

46 Jon DeRosa   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:37 pm

[37] yanks 1 for 19 in the first inning this postseason. jeter with a leadoff single in game 3 vs minny.

47 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:37 pm

Check the oil, fill the tires, diesel up the tank, check the running lights, and start that score truck now.

Get the crowd back into it.

48 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:38 pm

[46] Yes. I was there too. Forgot about it

49 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:38 pm

Does Lee's control seem off?

50 moismycopilot   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:39 pm

[49] I was just thinking the same thing. He's not throwing the first pitch strike like I'm used to seeing.

51 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:40 pm

This is going to be a long game

52 rbj   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:40 pm

Up to you tonight, Robbie.

53 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:40 pm

6-pitch Abs are OK..A-Rod going yard later this game, I can sense it..

54 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:42 pm

[53] I wouldn't particularly mind it they would have swung at some of those get me over strikes early in the count.

55 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:43 pm

Here's a thought, If Billy Martin knew he was the frontrunner for Cliff Lee the next year, would he have made an issue of Lee's hat?

56 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:44 pm

Where the fuck is OUR Cody Ross?
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

57 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:45 pm

[51] Unfortunately, I figured as much; though, at least I'm already a bottle of wine into the evening ...

58 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:45 pm

[55] That hat is nothing, a non-issue. You're allowed to have rosin on the mound. Michael Kay is a blowhard.

59 rbj   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:46 pm

[55] I wouldn't. I'd want that on my team next year, and the reason the Yankees lose the series is not Lee, it's hitting crappy against the other starters.

60 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:47 pm

[59] But what if it really does give him an advantage, and nextg year someone points it out when he's on the Yankees?

61 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:48 pm

love that robbie kid!

62 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:48 pm

Good snag.

63 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:48 pm

So, thirty pitches through two innings. So all taking those pitches accomplished was putting the batters in a hole.

64 rbj   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:48 pm

Nice, Robbie.

65 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:49 pm

[59] Exactly. Well, that and the remarkably awful starting pitching we've gotten in the first 2+ games ...

66 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:50 pm

[63] taking what pitches? the 4 of 6 first pitch balls?

67 rbj   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:50 pm

[60] It's a risk, but I'm willing to take it. Besides, what if it ticks him off enough to not want to sign with you, but go to shudder Bahstahn instead?

68 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:51 pm

[67] Maybe they asked Sabathia and he said it was better not to make a deal of it.

69 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:52 pm

too many pitches so far for andy. It's really hurting things.

70 rbj   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:52 pm

[68] I trust CC.

71 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:52 pm

[58] Oh, I totally agree. But Oil Can Boyd's chains were a non issue too. As was the pine tar on Brett's bat. It would be nothing but mind games. I'm not even saying its the right thing to do, just if you think Billy would do it.

[59] Which is why I put that qualifier. Would Billy jeopardize signing him next year to maybe gain an advantage in the ALCS?

72 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:54 pm

[71] He'd probably do it. But I don't really think there's much of a risk of jeopardizing a signing, unless Lee was totally bonkers.

73 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:55 pm

[71] There is nothing in the world that would have stopped Billy Martin from trying to win every single game in any way possible...

74 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:56 pm

[66] Swisher and Teixiera each taking back to back strikes irritated the hell out of me.

75 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:57 pm

[72] He's a lefthanded pitcher.

76 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 8:57 pm

Time to end this perfect game HorseShit.

77 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:00 pm

[74] I don't remember swish's at bat well. But both of those strikes to Tex were borderline so i can't get too upset about it. But of course 0-2 was annoying for a guy like tex who just isn't hitting in this series.

78 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:00 pm

Insta-Prediction - Yankee Offense gets on track, but not until 5th inning.

79 rbj   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:01 pm

This inning, we score some runs.

80 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:01 pm

Posada's my man.

81 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:02 pm

Good ab, Jorge. ; (

82 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:02 pm

SWING THE FUCKING BAT.

83 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:03 pm

another ridiculous strike zone all of a sudden

84 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:03 pm

Wow, I guess NFL really IS king in the US now..just clicked on espn.com and the front page was dominated by Tennesee-Jacksonville first quarter...TEN-JAX more important than Game 3 of the ALCS??????

85 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:05 pm

SAFE!!!!

86 rbj   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:05 pm

Or not.

87 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:06 pm

Did Brett Gardner just miss first base?

88 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:06 pm

safe.

89 moismycopilot   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:06 pm

I really wish Gardner would quit it with those headfirst slides into first.

90 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:06 pm

He was safe but he totally should have just ran through that that time.

91 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:06 pm

I think Brett missed the bag ... flew right by it.

92 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:06 pm

I don't think Brett even touched the bag. FUCK LEE and his goddamn smug fucking looking on his face.

93 JeremyM   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:07 pm

[92] Looked like a Gene Simmons impression there...

94 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:07 pm

I don't think he missed the bag. I think he slid his hand on the corner because he didn't want it stepped on. But I didn't think he missed it at all.

95 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:08 pm

He's so smug. With good reason. But man, I'd like a line drive off his fucking shin. Angel Hernandez botched that call.

96 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:08 pm

I am guessing he touched the outside of the bag and was safe, but it was close enough that I am not too concerned.

97 JeremyM   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:08 pm

[94] Agreed, and the ump was right there and blew it.

98 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:09 pm

nice Andy!

99 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:10 pm

He missed the bag.

100 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:10 pm

ok i think he did miss actually. i totally think he was afraid of getting stepped on.

[84] Maybe...or maybe the NFL is simply king of ESPN, which has major business interests in the NFL.

102 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:10 pm

Okay, so he didn't blow the call. Fuck Angel Hernandez and fuck Cliff Lee anyhow.

103 moismycopilot   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:10 pm

[95] I'm looking forward to the robot umpires of the future.

104 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:11 pm

Stop sliding then!!!

105 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:11 pm

Gardner missed the bag, but there is NO WAY Angel Hernandez saw that. He blew the call and yet got lucky. F him.

106 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:11 pm

nice work Andy!

107 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:11 pm

So Brett's super play in game 1 has now made him afraid to touch the bag. Wonderful. He should have run through the bag and knocked Lee into the fucking bleachers.

108 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:11 pm

Now, if only Gritty, Gutty Brett Gardner "accidentally" crashed into Lee...

109 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:12 pm

[105] Yep...blind squirrel and nut situation.

110 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:13 pm

easy as pie. nice inning. now we need some offense jetes.

111 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:13 pm

Andy is pitching great. Hammy just had a great AB and pulled an outside pitch.

112 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:14 pm

Just keep 'em close Andy...the offense will break through.

113 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:14 pm

[111] yeah. i'm hating hammy.

114 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:15 pm

On the positive side - except for that awful mistake pitch to Clean Living Hamilton, Andy P looks very very good.

115 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:15 pm

[113] Michael Young annoys me more.

116 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:17 pm

Every time I see this Timer Warner commercial of a dad throwing bp to his son in a cornfield I think of AJ. The dad can't throw anything near the plate.
Kill the perfect game, please.

117 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:17 pm

[115] they are both killing us. it hurts.

118 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:19 pm

we can win this but we need to end the perfect game. it's totally killing my morale.

119 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:20 pm

Swisher's got to get on here, if only for his own confidence.

120 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:20 pm

depressing.

121 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:21 pm

I'm trying to think of something worse than an infant going through chemo

122 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:21 pm

At least Swish is running up the pitch count.

123 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:21 pm

[118] Funny. I just deadpanned to my wife that if Lee pitches a perfect game, the Yankees would have a hard time coming back to win.

124 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:21 pm

So, uhm, what do we do if the Yankees don't get lee next year?

125 JeremyM   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:22 pm

Attaboy Swish. Geyt on base buddy!

126 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:22 pm

This is awful

127 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:22 pm

swing at ball four.

128 JeremyM   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:22 pm

Ugh. Ball 4, obviously.

129 moismycopilot   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:23 pm

132 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:23 pm

Tough AB...I am still (sort of, maybe) confident.

133 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:23 pm

worst swing ever.

134 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:24 pm

135 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:24 pm

[131] They aren't even needlessly putting themselves in a hole anymore.

136 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:25 pm

138 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:25 pm

[134] So who's the genius and who's insane?

139 JeremyM   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:25 pm

Come on A-Rod!

140 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:25 pm

2 run tater, pretty please.

141 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:25 pm

142 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:25 pm

NOW. END THE FUCKING NO HITTER!!!

143 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:25 pm

Okay, A Rod, let's plate Teixiera here and make it a brand new game!

144 rbj   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:25 pm

Well the perfecto is gone. Now we need to work on the no-hitter and the shutout and the win.

145 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:26 pm

FUCK DAMNIT! That was a nice cut too.

146 JeremyM   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:26 pm

Cruz is a bad outfielder, he almost lost that thing.

This sucks.

147 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:26 pm

Hm...Cruz made a not very tough ball look difficult. I thought A-Rod got more of that.

148 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:26 pm

They're just fukcing DYING out there. First Jeter's now that.
argggggggggggggggggggg

149 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:27 pm

[141] No, what do we do? Everyone even the announcers are considering it a forgone conclusion that he comes to NY. What if he doesn't? Do we beg 495 year old Andy Pettitte to come back one more year? Trade for another NL pitcher? Sign Pavano? Do the circus act with Joba?

150 JeremyM   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:27 pm

[148] Yeah, the two well struck balls did die. Yet Hamilton's flew out. Go figure.

151 moismycopilot   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:28 pm

I guess on the bright side, they're making contact? Eventually something will drop in for a hit, right?

152 JeremyM   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:29 pm

[149] I hear ya Matt, but talking about the offseason is for the Red Sox right now :)

153 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:30 pm

If it was anyone but Jeff Francoeur, I'd have hated that pitch seven feet outside.

154 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:31 pm

Taking a long time to get this guy.

155 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:31 pm

Get Hammy's dealer off the field.
Low blow, I know. I'm pissed.

156 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:31 pm

on-field delay: why?

157 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:31 pm

Hi folks. Earlier in the telecast, the international PBP guy, Gary Thorne, said "It's a beautiful night in Manhattan." Plus we got preachy Rick SUCKcliff doing color. What does it take to get a modicum of professionalism in the booth?

160 rbj   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:32 pm

[149] Lee replaces Javy.

161 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:33 pm

[160] That's the plan. What if it falls through?

162 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:33 pm

[149] I imagine there is *some* alternative to signing Lee. Not that they can sign another pitcher as good, but surely the team will not close up shop or go with a four man staff or the like. I imagine it will be some combination of Pettitte/Joba/Lilly/etc.

163 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:33 pm

go go andy! i like that at least.

164 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:33 pm

[162] Lilly signed with LAD

165 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:33 pm

Damn. If not for the stupid HR, I'd be juiced now.

166 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:36 pm

[165] 0-0 games cause you to break out the roids?

167 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:36 pm

[159] Yo Boat! Sutcliffe may be the worst announcer I've ever heard..even Hawk Harrelson is better. Gameday for me here.

168 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:36 pm

Lets get a god damned hit

169 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:37 pm

Robbie gets this thing going NOW.

170 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:37 pm

[164] Whatever...the point is that they will sign a pitcher or two and life will go on. Seriously, as good as Lee has been for now nearly three seasons, a team can manage success without him. I'm simply not going to obsess over the Yankees pursuit of the man, nor fret over the possibility they don't get him.

And I stick to my prediction, oft-repeated here, that he will flame out in a couple of years anyway.

171 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:38 pm

The swing of Ernie Els?

172 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:38 pm

Hello all! My Pettitte jersey and I are thrilled to see how well he's pitching. Now we're just waiting for the Score Truck!

173 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:39 pm

[171] Ha-ha...I heard that too. Was that meant as a compliment?

174 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:40 pm

Hm. Not making him work much this inning.

175 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:40 pm

[149] It's not Pettite didn't pitch well this year, so yes ... I'd ask Pettite back.

If he *does* come back, then you've got Nova, Mitre and Joba for the 5th spot ... with Banuelos, Brackman and the other dude with a "B" name that I'm spacing on right now as back-ups.

I'm ok with that plan.

Now, if Andy doesn't come back ... we're in a lot more trouble (assuming Lee signs elsewhere).

176 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:40 pm

[170] I'm actually more worried about what the team losing out on Lee and doing something really stupid. The free agent pitching class is horrific outside of Lee.

177 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:41 pm

[170] Yeah, good luck with that. I'd take that bet in a heartbeat.

178 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:41 pm

Thank fucking Mo.

179 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:41 pm

A hit!

180 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:41 pm

HIP HIP!

181 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:41 pm

My man gets the hit. Now make something out of it.

182 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:41 pm

reminiscent of a certain bloop hit off Pedro.

183 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:42 pm

[182] That was a double to left center.

184 moismycopilot   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:42 pm

Some two-out thunder would go down a treat here.

185 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:42 pm

[177] I know you would. Let's talk in three years.

[176] Good point.

186 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:42 pm

I was half afraid Kinsler was going to run it down and throw out Jorge by a step.

187 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:42 pm

0-2 grandy? damn it. this does not look good. Lee might be too much for Grandy. I hope not but...

188 rbj   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:43 pm

[161] My advice to you is to start drinking heavily.

I will. You can't spend an entire season curled up in a corner.

A hit! A hit!

Whatever you do, do not trade for Greinke. I've got nothing against him, but I just think he'd be Ed Whitson redux in NY -- without the John Bircher angle. Zack will do well in small markets, but the NY pressure cooker would kill him.

189 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:43 pm

[175] I have no problem asking Pettitte back. I think, at some point he's going to decline, but as long as he's willing to ask, you need to try. I don't know if he will though

190 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:43 pm

[182] My first thought too, monkeypants.

191 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:43 pm

[183] I think that you're thinking of a different hit.

192 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:44 pm

Would ya' hang one? One time!
C'mon, Curtis!

193 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:44 pm

[191] 2003?

194 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:44 pm

Well, at last Po's hit bought them four more pitches.

195 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:45 pm

That jog right off the mound is annoying. He might deserve it, but its annoying anyway.

196 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:45 pm

i know it's hard to lay off but striking out on pitches out of the strike zone is infuriating. But our hitters are in such a defensive posture against him.

197 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:45 pm

[185] Did you say the same thing about Roy Halladay in 2003?

198 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:45 pm

[191] the game tying hit in 2003 was ruled a double, IIRC.

199 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:46 pm

He's at 80 pitches now. If they can make him throw 20 next inning, maybe getg a couple baserunners...

200 joe   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:46 pm

I'm sick of hearing these announcers fellate Lee. Fuck this bastard and beat him

Show/Hide Comments 201-300
201 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:46 pm

In know knocking Lee out early is not easy, but he should have 75+ pitches after 5. If we can work two 20 pitch innings, he might be done after 7. If Andy can hold them, score 2 (or more) in 2 innings against their BP isn't unreasonable.

I think they really need to make Lee work so he can't come out for the 8th.

OK. 80 pitches for Lee after 5.

202 JeremyM   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:47 pm

[201] Or they bring him out tired and they beat him that way, Pedro-style.

203 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:49 pm

[167] Yo, Jazz. When are we gonna have that "meeting?" Final game? Let's schedule it.

204 JeremyM   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:49 pm

I could live without the crappy hits right before Hamilton strolls up!

205 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:49 pm

Pitching Young outside is not a good idea.

206 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:49 pm

[201] gotta keep working the counts. Hopefully we do. Still, if we can keep this 2-0 even a solo shot off of Lee could be a huge deal.

207 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:49 pm

I would pound Hammy inside with the FB.

208 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:50 pm

Speaking of Josh Hamilton, did anyone else notice how much Cody Ross sniffs when they've interviewed him throughout the playoffs?

209 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:50 pm

C'mon, turn two.

210 JeremyM   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:51 pm

[208] Allergies? I sniff a lot and annoy the crap out of people, but no coke here :)

211 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:51 pm

[197] I don't recall, but I have expressed some reservations about Halladay in the past given the amount of mileage on his arm and his slight injury history. Of course, Halladay and Lee are not really comparable. In 2005 Halladay had already been great for nearly every one of his seven seasons (save some injuries). Lee was basically not very good until becoming unhittable for one season and very good for two seasons. Overall, Halladay has pretty much always been the safer bet, as I see it.

212 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:52 pm

[209] I'd go for that.

213 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:52 pm

[210] Its also flu season. I doubt he does coke, but damn was it annoying

214 JeremyM   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:52 pm

Whew....

215 rbj   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:52 pm

[200] Yeah. Andy, since the first has had how many more batters than Cliff? Same number?

Heart attack averted.

216 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:53 pm

Man, the cameraman made me think that was gone. Lousy work.

217 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:53 pm

Holy shit! I think I threw up in my mouth.

219 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:53 pm

Evening, Team.

PFEW!

Fuck, that was scary.

Was about to say, Andy's being Andy, which is good to see.

We just need some runs.

220 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:53 pm

[207] I'd think about walking him every time. Yikes.

221 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:53 pm

wtf kind of camera work was that? Oh, it's hamilton it must be gone. but it clearly was not crushed.

222 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:53 pm

There was no need for that wide angle shot

223 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:53 pm

Well that had my nervous for about two and a half seconds.

224 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:54 pm

I refuse to get myhopes up. They're going to lose and that's it.

225 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:54 pm

[219] Runs have been in short supply the last few innings, it seems. For the our boys, at least.

226 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:55 pm

[211] No, 2003. Which is 3 years *after* Halladay went down to the minors and came back a much better pitcher, just like *now* is 3 years after Lee went down to the minors and came back, well, you know ...

And actually, Lee has a *much* better track record both before AND after going down to minors (in a relative space of time) than Halladay did in 2003 ... and, of course, Halladay's had 7 years of top notch pitching since then.

Do I want to see Lee get a 5 or 6 year contract? Not really, but I don't think there's really anything glaring in particular that points to Lee *not* being a top notch pitcher in 3 years.

YMMV, of course ...

227 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:56 pm

Nice showing, Andy.

228 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:56 pm

Fucking beautiful, Andy.

That's my boy.

229 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:56 pm

Well, can't lay this at Andy's feet

230 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:56 pm

YES! One more inning hopefully we can squeeze out of the old man (who is my age).

231 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:57 pm

I'll make fun of Hamilton as much as the next person. But his story is truly remarkable imo. I wonder where his career numbers would be if stayed clean.
Great pitch to Blad Vlad.

232 JeremyM   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:57 pm

I hate these investment commercials- John Hancock and Charles Schwab, ugh.

[210] I used to "say" it was allergies.

234 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:58 pm

evening all.

Unreal that Bobby Flay... I mean Josh Hamilton.. hit that one to the track when the first inning tapper went yard. I'll call that luck that it ain't 4-0 right now. Sheesh

235 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:58 pm

This is the inning. Andy has delivered. Now it's time for the batters to step up.

236 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:59 pm

here comes gardner who should be 1-1.

237 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:59 pm

WORK THE COUNT!!!!!!!!

238 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 9:59 pm

C'mon Brett. Stick your freaking elbow into one.

240 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:00 pm

267 rbj   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:03 pm

Gritnerness!

268 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:03 pm

[226] Huh?

Halladay was shit awful in 2000 and got busted down to single-A, when he was 23. But his ERA+ in full seasons between 1999 and 2003:

126, 48, 146, 159, 145

Compare to Cliff Lee's full seasons age 22-26:

none*, none*, 80, 111

* only appeared in a handful of games.

OK, lets extend out to age 29:

Halladay: 126, 48, 146, 159, 145, 115, 185, 143
Lee: none, none, 80, 111, 102, 72, 168

So, Halladay by age 29 pitched more and loner and better (peak season) and more consistently overall than Lee.

269 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:04 pm

Molina was so surprised that Brett actually ran that he threw it away

278 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:05 pm

Swisher needs a hit here. We need it and he needs it.

279 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:05 pm

Everyone loses a game eventually. I recall, a few years ago now, when the Yanks had won 10 Serious games in a row, and had El Duque pitching, with an 8-0 career postseason record.

That was Game 3 of the 2000 Serious, and of course, not only did the Yanks lose, El Duque took the loss too. It happens. Lee is going to lose one of these games sometime.

280 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:05 pm

Way to lay off the change (what Nick whiffed on last ab)

281 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:05 pm

[272] The downside of having to take a pitch for the runner, which is the main reason that Gardner REALLY needs to get a read earlier in counts

282 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:05 pm

That's 90 pitches. Keep going.

283 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:06 pm

[281] Interesting point.

284 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:06 pm

[277] It was a very civil argument. Give Nick credit.

285 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:06 pm

[279] And in that game, El Duque struck out 12 in 7 innings.

286 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:06 pm

91 pitches. Keep pushing him, boys.

[283] I have to imagine Jeter would have swung at strike two if he wasn't taking for the steal attempt. And there's no reason why we should still be waiting for him to steal on the fourth pitch of ABs.

311 moismycopilot   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:11 pm

Bleh. Do you think they'll start CC tomorrow, despite all their "confidence" in AJ?

312 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:12 pm

[302] You know the old axiom: the Score Truck always runs colder in October. Don't worry, it's warming up and soon they can put it in gear.

313 rbj   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:12 pm

[297] The rest are just players. or Playahs.

314 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:12 pm

[311] i think you stick with AJ. If tomorrow was possibly the series ender that'd be one thing. But our best bet is that we can bring cc, phil AND andy back on regular rest.

315 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:12 pm

[311] No.

316 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:13 pm

I would not be surprised to see Lee throw 130+ pitches.

317 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:15 pm

Unacceptable. Speedy lead off man gets in to scoring position with no outs and nothing to show for it. That has been the Yanks story in this series and even the Twinkie series.

318 rbj   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:15 pm

[316] Cook him for game 7. A tired Lee will be fun for the clincher.

319 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:15 pm

Riveting stuff from the home plate ump. Let's not do that again.

320 JeremyM   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:15 pm

Wow, umpires greet players to the plate? I really had no idea....

321 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:15 pm

[315] I have a good feeling about AJ Burnett tomorrow.

I think the better question is if Burnetts spits the bit, do you see them seriously consider getting rid of him in the offseason.

Right or wrong, if, after this regular season, Burnett becomes a face if playoff failure, I'm not sure you can bring him back.

322 moismycopilot   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:15 pm

[314] [315] In that case, I hope Cervelli has the night of his life at the plate.

323 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:16 pm

It always hurts to give up hits of any kind to Francoeur

324 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:16 pm

[322] Oh God.

325 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:16 pm

[310] He has a plan. First time on base...he's reading the pitcher...waiting for the perfect moment. Give the guy credit, he's a professional, and it's not automatic.

326 rbj   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:17 pm

Uh oh, a Monlina is up. Prepare the tranquilizer gun.

327 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:17 pm

331 moismycopilot   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:18 pm

[321] After the season he's had, I I don't see them being able to unload him on anyone, unless Cashman has some incriminating photos of another GM.

332 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:18 pm

That was like a weird slow motion movie. Nice pick by Teix.

333 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:19 pm

fucking Tex. Thank god you scooped that, or else youd'a been skinned alive...

Phew, thank Mo Molinas can't outrun sloths.

336 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:19 pm

I'll tell you what. Andy really came through tonight. Now we need to deliver the win for him.

337 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:19 pm

AJ has to go tomorrow. IF, IF, IF CC goes and spits the bit again. Then we are in a world of shit. What then? Young Phil who blew on Sat. on short rest. And then Old Man Golden God Andy on short rest. OY!
Nice pick, Teix!. Now get a fucking hit next time.

[334] Molina v. Posada (shudder)?

346 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:22 pm

Lee's been throwing pitches out of the zone but the Yankees are swinging at them and taking the strikes.

347 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:22 pm

...I just heard on the NYC police scanner that Ronan Tynan was just arrested in a midtown bar after throwing his 13 empty shot glasses through the 75" TV and threatening horrified clientele to a "god bless americ-off".

Poor soul...

348 JeremyM   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:22 pm

What a performance by Andy Pettitte. What more can you say about this guy?

Besides prattling on about his pick-off move, his performance was basically ignored by the announcers.

349 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:23 pm

[348] That HR hurt. He's been behind the whole game, which obscures how good he's been.

350 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:24 pm

[344] no, of course not, but he ain't hitting, and NY fans are looking for something to hate him on.

351 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:24 pm

[347] And, also he added, "God damn, Jews."

352 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:24 pm

c'mon Alex. Get on base. No more LOBs.

Lee at 97 pitches. Do he go more then 1 more?

A ball out of the infield would be nice.

357 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:25 pm

[350] Well, they'd have to choose between him and Alex when it comes to not hitting and lord knows, it ain't like fans have been previously inclined to cut Alex any slack ...

Damn, I wish we could have shut up all this fawning over Lee, but the fucker's earned it. Tonight puts the offer at over $120, dontcha think?

372 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:32 pm

427 Evil Empire   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:55 pm

[24] well, as I said when Hamilton hit it out, "ballgame." Geez this is frustrating to watch. I hope the Yanks pay Lee a mint and get him to the Bronx.

By the way, how bad is AJ Burnett going to implode tomorrow night. What's the over and under on 4 walks, 2 HBP, 6 hits, 2 WPs, 2 PB's, 6 ER through 3 innings tomorrow?

428 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:55 pm

So I guess make this inning last as long as possible without having these fucking assholes score. That way Rosin Head will be stiff. Or something.

429 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:56 pm

[427] I take the under on everything but the walks.

430 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:57 pm

[426] They have a pretty excellent closer and Lee is at 122 and they are lining him up to pitch in game 7. I suspect that was Lee's last inning, especially with the long top of the ninth.

431 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:57 pm

Mariano Rivera got his first save at 26

432 yankintexas   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:58 pm

Why do the rf ump and 1b ump stand about 30 feet apart. Paging Bud.

434 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:59 pm

438 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 10:59 pm

[430] They've got an excellent closer who has looked pretty damned spooked in three games in the playoffs. Walk two people in a 2-0 game and things get dicey

What is A-Rod doing at third?

464 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:05 pm

they are getting real lucky right now too. finding holes.

465 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:05 pm

So.

Let's add this up.

They've played 26.5 innings and Texas has been better in 26 of them?

Fucking pathetic.

What a fucking pile of bullshit.

466 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:05 pm

[455] This whole series has been awful except for an inning or 2. Why the hell is The Daily Show a repeat? I could watch something entertaining.

477 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:08 pm

[470] Ha! Well said.

As sure as I felt about Game 1, I now feel sure the Yankees are doomed in this series.

478 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:08 pm

You know, I'd don't mind losing ... I'd don't mind getting beat ... I fucking mind when this team doesn't bother showing up.

What a fucking disgrace.

479 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:09 pm

cmon dudes, get off the ledge. AJ needs to bring 6 innings and hold them under 4 runs tomorrow vs. Tommy Hunter. Then Big Lefty on Wed vs. Wilson. You don't think it's possible to return to TX up 3-2?

480 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:09 pm

why are people implying the bullpen wasn't used well? did i miss something? Until now the bullpen has been lights out.

484 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:11 pm

woah, folks are over-reacting. it's only 2-1.

490 jimcobain   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:12 pm

It so easy to say a team doesn't show up when the opposing pitcher shuts you down. Tip your cap. The Yanks win tomorrow and it's a new series. They don't and they have their ace on the mound at home. This team ain't dead till there are no more outs left in the season.

491 seamus   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:12 pm

i'm gonna roll folks. can't watch robertson implode any longer.

492 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:13 pm

[480] Yep. I have no problems with the BP choices tonight...thy just didn't work out. And ultimately, it won't matter what the Rangers score since the Yankees will score 0.

493 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:13 pm

[484] I read that the first time. So I ask you again--after watching this team all year--you don't think it's possible to return to TX up 3-2?

494 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:13 pm

[478] Totally agreed. They look old, hurt, distracted, whatever else you can think of. They have NO swagger right now at all. They read too many goddamn sports pages this weekend and decided they had no chance tonight against Lee. Andy deserved better.

495 Jon DeRosa   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:13 pm

[489] It's not that its only 2-1, its that they have played so incredibly poorly. What have you seen that makes you think they'll figure it out? They've had ONE good 1/2 inning and a nice start from Pettitte. That's it.

[493] Sure, it *can* happen.

After 2004, *anything* can happen.

I just find it highly unlikely.

We shall see.

505 JeremyM   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:16 pm

If AJ Burnett wasn't beyond awful for months, if he had shown some kind of promise in that simulated start, I'd feel a little more hopeful about things.

506 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:16 pm

[500] Probably. But Joe wasn't going to pass up a chance to mix and match.

507 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:16 pm

[500] I can see that. Then gain, Loogan has been the Loogy, so that move was predictable and not egregious. Then he went with Robertson, his next best pitcher not named Mo. So even if one makes the case to stick with Wood for two innings, none of the moves was particularly scorn-worthy.

508 randym77   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:17 pm

[490] It's not the lack of hitting that bothers me. It's the sloppy defense this inning. That's what really put the nail in the coffin.

509 thelarmis   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:17 pm

2 grand slams to tie...

nuthin' to it!

510 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:17 pm

AJ will bean 2 batters in the top of the 1st.

511 The Hawk   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:17 pm

It's funny; I was gonna pop in with a pithy "Well I guess sometimes you CAN predict baseball", in regards to Cliff Lee mainly, but then strangely this top of the 9th is kind of unexpected. Oh and shitty too.

512 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:18 pm

[510] and if he does, then that means the fix is in?

513 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:18 pm

[501] The beauty of baseball is that, as I see it, one game really doesn't carry over to the next. They have been completely outplayed and are still only down 2-1. And the so-called momentum can change tomorrow.

514 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:19 pm

Maybe the Rangers will be really tired tomorrow

515 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:19 pm

Jesus, 2 bottles of wine and I still can't quell the rage from this game.

Fuck it, see y'all for game 6 (since I won't be around for tomorrow night's game).

516 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:20 pm

[514] They surely cannot be as rested as the Yankees!!

517 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:20 pm

Have the Yankees ever seen Tommy Hunter?

518 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:20 pm

This seems like a silly use of the closer.

519 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:20 pm

[510] As long as one of them is Hamiliton.
This team could and should be on the verge of being swept. Bleh!

520 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:20 pm

Look at all those empty seats.

521 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:21 pm

[513] You're right, of course, but I just don't feel it in my gut. Usually I'm never the guy on the ledge. I just don't think this 2010 edition is a championship team. Close...but not quite.

522 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:22 pm

[513] I agree. I mean, I can't bet the bank on AJ, but you really think the Yankees are going into the locker room tonight writing off the rest of the series? Fuck no. Jeter's gonna pound som--okay, maybe Brett Gardner's gonna pound some skulls and fire these guys up.

Tomorrow is the best possible place for AJ to start... against the #4 starter, down only 1 game, and when he pitches in good form, that will swing the gate, bitches.

523 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:22 pm

[521] I felt really good about this game today, so I'm not trusting my gut anymore.

524 Jon DeRosa   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:22 pm

The problem for me is that now I have to visualize two of the three following things to happen: winning AJ's game, winning phil hughes start in texas, and beating cliff lee in texas.

that is why i originally picked the yanks in 5, i thought winning in 6 or 7 was a lot less likely.

i don't think the rangers are that good, but i don't think much of these yanks either.

525 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:23 pm

[521] And then they'll score 6 runs tomorrow in the 2nd inning and I'll completely contradict myself. Goddamn it, being a fan sucks sometimes.

526 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:23 pm

THIS FUCKING SUCKS.

527 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:24 pm

This might be one of Jeter's worst personal box scores. Was that three or four Ks?

528 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:25 pm

[527] 3 Ks

529 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:26 pm

AJ Burnett's face does not inspire confidence there.

530 joe   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:26 pm

I like that the Rangers are running Feliz out there. I think its overkill, but it gives us a look at him and might tire him out if he has to pitch the next two nights.

531 Just Fair   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:26 pm

Cliff Lee can go fuck a goat.

532 thelarmis   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:26 pm

535 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:28 pm

So, let's recap.

Jeter isn't hitting RHP, Swisher isn't hitting, Teix isn't hitting, Alex isn't hitting and Posada isn't hitting.

Screw the pitching, the bats need a BIG beating.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

536 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:28 pm

537 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:28 pm

Well, that was stinky.

Back at 'em tomorrow.

538 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:28 pm

Mercifully.

So what happens tomorrow?

539 yankintexas   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:28 pm

[507] The problem is the more pitchers you bring in the greater the chance someone enter the game without their best stuff. If I'm the Rangers I'm thanking Girardi for removing Pettitte and Wood from the game not to mention using Pettitte against Lee and giving me AJ in game four to tee off of.

540 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:29 pm

[535] Posada also can't catch a fucking pitched ball.

541 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:29 pm

AJ gives up 9 runs in two innings, and the Yankees lose 17-2. Then Girardi starts Moseley in Game 5.

542 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:31 pm

tomorrow.

(I am scared, btw.. just want to be optimistic)

543 moismycopilot   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:31 pm

AJ had better be on a short leash tomorrow.

544 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:31 pm

I thought I heard the fans saying "Let's go Rangers" in that ugly top of the 9th. Only in NY.

545 yankintexas   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:31 pm

[541] Or that guy in the Taco commercial...

546 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:31 pm

Now I gotta go to work. Gah!

547 monkeypants   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:32 pm

[539] Yes, yes, yes, I know that. I am a fan of using relievers for multiple innings, not saving the "closer" until the 9th, etc. I'm just saying that Girardi's BP moves were not noteworthy or particularly bad. He went with his tactical lefty-lefty move and it didn't work. Then he went with his best non-closer and it didn't work.

Sometimes moves don;t work, even when they are not really all that worthy of criticism.

548 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:33 pm

I don't even know what to say. I've tried to be optimistic during these playoffs, but, this team is in really bad shape.

549 Jon DeRosa   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:34 pm

based on what the yanks have come up with in the early part of these postseason games, i think they come out tomorrow frozen in carbonite.

a LOT of pressure on aj through the first three or four innings. texas has been jumping all over everything the yanks throw - even against an otherwise excellent andy pettitte.

aj needs 3 or 4, 1 run ball and let the bats thaw out.

550 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:35 pm

[547] I'm as big a critic of Coffee Joe as there is (non-williamnyy23 edition), but let's be brutally fucking honest, we scored exactly ZERO runs tonite.

We got what, 1 runner to second???

This ain't on Joe or the bullpen.

551 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:36 pm

[550] I really, really think Feliz coughs it up with a two run lead in the ninth.

552 Jon DeRosa   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:36 pm

why pitch kerry wood 2 innings while trailing by 2? he might not be that good in the 2nd inning, he might burn him out for game 4. this is complaining just to complain about girardi.

553 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:36 pm

"disgustipating."
-----------------------------
comment of the night!

554 yankintexas   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:39 pm

[547] I know. Just ranting against Girardi's usual game plan. I just wish for once that he would let the guys who are performing give reason to be yanked rather than micro managing the game to death. It's so annoying and in my opinion gives the opposition more chances to get going and we saw that tonight in the ninth.

555 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:40 pm

[551] Well, if Jeter, Swisher, Teixeira, Rodriguez and Posada don't hit ... we'll never know.

562 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:49 pm

[561] Except for that unpleasantness in the ninth.

563 thelarmis   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:49 pm

[553] thanks, man! : )

564 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Oct 18, 2010 11:56 pm

Just wanted to say that that bullshit ninth inning by the bullpen (partially the fault of Girardi for not using Rivera to keep his team within a bloop and a blast for the ninth) made me as angry as a Yankee game has made me probably since the 2004 ALCS. I don't think they were going to win either way, but something about pissing away any chance with last ups left really got under my skin. Completely ruined what was otherwise a fantastic postseason game.

565 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2010 12:02 am

Girardi looks like a addict answering those questions. Probably still high from that bullpen orgy he had in the ninth.

566 Hank Waddles   ~  Oct 19, 2010 12:11 am

[564] Agreed. Lee was dominant, but I sure would've liked to have seen him take his 122 pitches into the ninth inning against the top of the order. Sure, things might've turned out the same, but at least it would've been because Cliff Lee had shut them out, not because Girardi had let the game slip away.
