Am I wrong but wasn’t Terry Collins an incorrigible red ass when he managed the Angels?
Should make for some fun temper tantrums.

He didn't leave a lot of friends behind in Houston when he got fired there.
there was a near mutiny back in '99 in Anaheim, the players would've fragged him if he didn't get out of there. BUT that was 11 years ago, you would think he would learn his lessons from that.
I don't think its a bad hire for the Mets, they figure to be a roughly .500 team either way so you might as well throw a guy in there who could possibly light a fire under them for a stretch...Bob Melvin was not going to be that guy.
Theory: he was just pissed he had to wear those awful Disney Angels uniforms.
So Terry Collins will piss the Mets off into shape in no time!
As someone who enjoys the shitstorm that is the New York Mets, this makes me sad.
As someone who thinks that bat shit crazy Wally Backman as a manager is just a bad idea, regardless of the team, I think its probably the best of all available options.
Sad, bad choice. But that seems par for the course. NYT had thought that Sandy Koufax influenced the decision. The Wilpons have money and no sechel. then again, check out the list of managers with losing records: Frank Howard managed this team. Joe Torre. Dallas Green. Casey. Yogi. George Bamburger. Wes Westrum. The only ones I liked were Gil Hodges, Davey, and Bobby Mustache.
[6] It wasn't so much the managers that were the problem then, it was the players.
We can debate whether managers really make much of a difference, but sometimes I think clubs really do need to change their culture. The Mets are one such team, and Collins is definitely a break from recent hires.
In many ways, Collins is a lot like Bobby Valentine. A fiery guy (with perhaps a less positive bent) with a rep. for being a cunning strategist. Before being hired with the Astros, he was was widely thought of as the next great manager. Interestingly, his first job almost came with the Yankees 20 years ago.
I think the Mets did well with their choice, and were smart to not bow to the public pressure concerning his DUI. That alone is a positive sign for the future.
