Let’s Make a Deal

The Winter Meetings opens on a busy not asĀ the Red Sox will get Adrain Gonzalez after all.

Jayson Werth, to the Nats, for many dollars.

Hey, Now. And they’re just getting warmed up.

"Adrian Beltre goes to the White Sox."

Really?

My bad.

Huh, the make the trade without the extension?? That sounds crazy. There must be some sub rosa deal or understanding (the Sox avoid luxury tax this year if the extension isn't official until April).

Carl Crawford's contract is going to be obscene.

[4] Crawford the best player of the bunch (including Clifford Lee!). He's going to get some serious dead presidents...hopefully from the Yankees. I can't be the only one hoping for Crawford instead of Clifford..

[5] Sadly, I'm thinking the peanut gallery could do without either one under the market circumstances. Do the Yanks throw insane money at both to lkeep it under six years?

Think the Yanks have little choice bit to throw major ducats at Lee, but no way for Crawford.

[7] Its going to be years, not dollars, that are the problem with Lee. 5+ year contracts for pitchers really never work out - the one exception being Mussina. Lee doesn't have the performance track record, or the health track record, that Moose did 10 years ago.

I continue to hope that Lee signs elsewhere, unless the Yanks convince him to take a 3 year deal for an insane amount of money per year.

Evan Grant is floating some (admittedly grain-of-salt) rumors that the Rangers will go to six years for Lee and that the Yanks won't play at that level.
And I agree with Alex about Crawford. He'll turn 30 this season, and he has the kind of skills that don't age well. Think about being stuck with Johnny Damon in his late thirties.

[5] Yup... the only one. Brett Gardner says Hello.
