Would like to watch the game but just heard about some of the "extracurricular" political pageantry scheduled...will watch the Japanese-tv replay at night and skip the jingoism..
I grew up a (frontrunning) Raider fan. I LOVE John Facenda reading 'The Autumn Wind', the cornball poem devoted to the Raiders. NFL Films sure knows how to get you fired up.
Go Pack! I'm a longtime Jints fan, but an old buddy of mine has been a Packers fan since we were kids. He stood out like a sore cheesehead on LI in the 80s. He had to be, I figured, one of maybe four Packers fans this side of Wisconsin. In high school, he lost a Packers-related bet (I forget what it was) and came to school wearing a paper bag on his head. Why was he a Packers fan?
LOMBARDI. He grew up worshipping the guy. Had books about him. Had pictures of him on his wall, and quotes mixed in with all of his Yankees pictures, posters, and banners. He gave me an early appreciation for Lombardi. So, I'm rooting for my buddy's team tonight.
[5] I am also a Packer/Yankee fan. Not too many of us around. All the other sports pale in comparison to Yankee baseball and Packer football. Go Packers!
As the Super Bowl has gotten bigger and bigger, it appeals more and more to the casual fan or even the non-fan, but less and less to the NFL diehard. If I were a real NFL diehard, i'd be ticked about the game starting so late instead of being in the daytime, about the extra-long halftime, about the needless hype, and about the general disregard for the action on the field in comparison to the commercials.
Are there really NFL diehards out there who like what has happened to the Super Bowl?
[9] I'm a pretty big Giants fan, and yeah I tend to agree with you. I have the pre-game show on now and in the past 20 minutes I've watched: interviews with Owen Wilson and John Travolta, a Keith Urban performance, and Dan Lauria dressed up as Vince Lombardi babbling about nonsense...like, what is this??
that being said, I'm 26...I've only ever known Super Bowls like this. The idea of a 3 o'clock kickoff at The Orange Bowl is completely foreign to me.
[10] The pageantry is so over the top, I don't know how no one puts a stop to it. Fighter plane fly-overs, giant flags, presidential tributes..just play the damn game! (And give Keyshawn the damn ball, already!)

Go Packers!!
...screw the Stupor Bowl. Unless the Jets are playing, it's not worthy of my attention.
big ups to the newest Hall of Famers...Yankee great Neon Deion, and NFL Films founder Ed Sabol!

NFL Films is the best thing that ever happened to that sport.

[10] Dan Lauria? I would've preferred to see Jerry Stiller.
