Mark Teixeira, who told reporters the other day that he plans to be “buried in pinstripes” does not want to start the season slowly, as he has done for the past two years. According to a piece by Ben Shpigel in the Times:
“To me,” the hitting coach Kevin Long said, “it’s taken him too long in the past to get going.”
…According to Long, Teixeira told him, “I’ve probably taken for granted my hitting is always going to be there.”
“I told K-Long, give me some tough love if you need to,” Teixeira said.
It says here that Teixeira will have a good start this time around. Fearless prediction, I know, but hoop, there it is.

well, if Tex doesn't get off to a good start we can always blame it on the third baseman. ba-da-bum.
I don't mind if Tex starts slow, as usual - as long as he consistently plays good defense, and ends the season with his usual averages, and totals, (and doesn't get hurt !) he'll be fine with me. Once he gets cooking, he can carry the team. The Yanks will need a few hot bats in April, but Tex doesn't have to be the man that particular month.
off-topic, I like that they're calling Montero, Monty.
Oh, sure, Sliced, blame the Left.
And here's the story on Long's work with Jeter (from Chad Jennings). Awesome article.
I'm not sure this team can withstand a slow start from Teixeira
4) Sure they can. I'm not saying they'll win it all this year, but they can withstand a lot. Dude, you would have been a wreck in '78, lol.
The team isn't really very different from last year. I know Pettitte is a real loss, he is. So they need someone to perform better than last year to compensate. Could be AJ, could be Jetes, could be Hughes. Lotta could-be guys.
And damn, the All Star game sucks. The pregame was unwatchable, I had to turn it off.
[1] I agree, Sliced, but the trouble is, last year he never got cooking.
[6] And what do we think of Joba as a could-be guy? Or have we given up on him?
