Opening Day. It is cold and rainy in the Bronx but it today is Opening Day and there will be baseball. It’s been a long winter and I’ve waited months to clap my hands and say the following:

Yay, it's baseball!
Happy Baseball everyone!
loving the empire strikes back theme music!
yeah yeah let's go yanks!
happy opening day banterers.
looks like it has cleared up for the time being too.
baseball!
LET'S GO YAN-KEES !! !!!
Let's go C.C.!
CC's throwing out the 1st pitch of the season. may Mo throw out the last, then raise his arms in victory!!!
good to see y'all!
Is it Opening Day already? I feel like I aged 10 years over the off season!
[7] you too, buddy!
Ahh, baseball.
[8] Seriously, this offseason did seem to last years.
Welcome back, everybody!
[7] wait. "y'all"? don't ya mean "yins"?! ; )
{8} All that shoveling
Here we go, Team!!!!!!!
I see over at bp that Emma picked the Red Sox to win the division and the Rays to win the wild card? WTF?
[11] welcome back, Cult! some of us never left here! : )
There it is ladies and gentlemen, your moment of Zen!
fuck. did they not show Moose with the ceremonial pitch?! dammit. i really really really wanted to see that. i hope he got a great crowd reaction. i miss Mikey Moose.
if Moose and Andy were pitching for us this season, everyone would say they're too old and we should give the kids a chance. i think i'd feel better if we had Andy & Moose!
well, that's a smokin' start!
ain't he GRAND!!!
Nice catch, Curtis!
Hey, he's back! That's cool to see!
Calling it now...first pitch to Jeter will be a line drive single to right field.
[12] yinz is the correct term! actually i've been really into using both y'all and yinz in the same sentence lately.
Cheers, all. Go Yankes!
I predict a hit for Jeter.
Right here, right now!
damn.
Dude throws hard.
[23] we use yins everyday to make fun of PA! : ) i have some fellow penn staters down here with me...
[22] Well,. he should have taken that pitch to RF ...
That was a good little defensive swing there by Derek. Bat looked kind of quick.
[22] Guess not.
Jeter is done! (j/k)
Verlander looks great.
Damn, what a great pitch. That was awfully close.
This Verlander guy's not a bad pitcher.
hey, a baserunner!
and now...a 2-run homer!!!
Damn, tied his ass right up.
Wow!
Let's go, Robbie!
Verlander is a dominant pitcher, but he still looked afraid of Arod.
C'mon Robbie, let's get RIPPER on these kitties!
nice AB, Alex.
verlander is pitching great. i'm glad we're making him work.
robbie looks so calm, cool and collected. i like the Confident Cano!
Damn, nasty change from Verlander.
Way to fight that off, Robbie! 96 and up in the zone.
Good job...
Well, at the very least, Verlander won't escape the 1st without throwing 30+ pitches.
Another full count!
30 pitches already!
Oh well.
Still and all, a very fine inning.
ah, man.
at least we made him work, i suppose...
Ya ever see Snoopy do his "happy dance"? That's how i'm feeling right now that baseball is back!
http://www.snoopy-dance.com/
Can you imagine how much it must hurt to get hit in this weather?
c'mon fat man, bear down here.
oy yuy yuy
crap.
cabrera looks rather hefty.
Good work, CC.
wow ... Jason Heyward went yard in his 1st AB of the season, for the 2nd year in a row ...
Hey there everybody. HAPPY BASEBALL!
[55] Well, if it isn't Little Miss Pessimism!
;-)
GO BASEBALL!!! Happy Opening Day everyone!!!
[54] damn. i didn't even know there were any other games going on right now. i can't find the Braves game anywhere! really weird, as it's usually not blacked out here... huh. : /
i dig Heyward and would've loved to have seen his AB...
[56] You'd think people had never heard of a reverse jinx!
Happy Baseball to you, Emma-Shmemma!
Pfew!
I thought Brett was going to pull up lame there.
a nice hit by the man who has Coltrane as one of his 17 middle names!
Oh man, that could have been very, VERY bad for Gardner.
[61] yeah, me too. i held my breath on Curtis's catches, as well...
Look at Brett all buddy-buddy with Joe!
c'mon, Tex - go...BOOM!
Dear Tex,
it's still March. it's okay to smash the shit outta the ball!!!
What???
The catcher steals THIRD?
ooh. nice!
HOLY FUCK!!!
WHAT.
A.
SHOT!!!
Goddamn!
Cult - how ya like me now, pal?!
Your Friend,
Nostra-larmis
That was very, VERY good for Teixeira!!!
Yeah Tex, home run!
Happy Baseball to one and all!
Good healthy swing by Alex there...off the end of the bat, though?
also nice to see the hot girl working in the expensive seats behind the Yanks' dugout. i didn't see her til this inning...
[72] You still got it buddy!
[76] Hah! I just noticed the same thing this inning. She's all bundled up against the cold.
[77] yeah, but no amount of cold can make her any less HOT!!! ; )
she knows it too, with her long hair over one shoulder!
[77] [78] Heheh. You two are so cute.
oh, boo. this is shaping up to be a really annoying inning.
almost as annoying as listening to Sut... : /
Hmmm.
No es bueno, Cano.
nice play by the Captain.
knotted at three...
dammit. that was a nice catch. i thought it was gonna fall...
both halves of that frame were highly annoying.
But at least they ain't behind...big inning her, c'mon boys!
Uh, so much for that.
Did Brett take a funny route on that?
Hmmm.
Misplay in the outfield. Hope that doesn't cost the Yankees.
YES has an overhead camera, right?
So why don't they use it when it might help to elucidate the action? Like, for example, just about anything that goes on in the outfield.
whew. i'm guessing that's it for Brown Bear...
I've griped about this before, but it's really annoying. It makes it nearly impossible to evaluate/appreciate outfielders because (obviously) the talent is all about what you do in that first split second.
It just pisses me off that they use the camera a couple times a game for..for what, I don't know, other than just to say, "Hey, isn't it cool, here's the field from up above!"...but seldom when it would seriously enhance our appreciation of the sport.
Dammit Alex, that should have been 3.
Bah.
It should have.
NIce, Robbie.
Oh, BULL FUCKING SHIT!
holy christ, that was waaay the fuck outside.
Has Joba lost weight?
And is that hair regulation?
Remember when Mattingly got in trouble for his tail?
[99] i'd be sent to the gallows! ; )
Heehee!
here's old friend, Cokey.
hey, i thought he was gonna be a started for Leyland this year...?
Damn, Curtis!
He sure turned that around!
Against a lefty. That's really nice to see.
Always knew Curtis would Rock those Pinstripes!
Yay, Grandyman!
didn't Grandy do that to beantown last year, too?!
rbi chance, Cap.
Yeah!
Martin's hustling all day.
nice. 2-run lead is back.
nice start to Soriano's highly paid yankee career
[107] Oh yeah, Opening Day, right?
So far, so goodness...
Ahahahahaha.
That's my Cornflake!
swish - always entertaining!
3-run lead. does GI Joe send Mo out in the cold?
i say, yeah. opening day, offday tomorrow, no pressure...
yup, there's his Moliness in the 'pen!!!
[115] Son, you do NOT dry hump his Moliness!
Mo just got a standing ovation here in my den! : )
[117] yeah, i hadn't realized he was already up...
and there's Strike ONE!
GRANDYMAN!!!
wow! what a freakin' catch!
i'm sooo happy he healed in time for today!!!
Yay!!!
nice win!!!
1st place, haha! ; )
Granderson was awesome today. By the end of the year, he is going to again be considered among the best CFers in the game.
Amazingly, that was only the third save for Mariano Rivera on Opening Day (2000, 2008 and 2011).
[67] My vote for "Comment of the Game Thread"
Yankees win, Mo gets the save and all's right with the world again.
[124] aw, thanks man. i'm just glad he obliged!
YES!
Hey gang! Just got back from the stadium, it was hella chilly...but hey, its opening day you can't complain. Grandy and J. Martin made big impressions today, and I think I can get used to this pen no doubt
