A.J. Burnett and Brad Penny are former teammates. Today, they start against each other in the Bronx. Which dude has the best stuff? Watch and learn and remember, Todd Drew never gave up on ol’ A.J., so neither should we.
Let’s Go Yank-ees!

Doesn't it seem too early in the year for Buck/McCarver?
There should be at least 1 month of games before being subjected to a fucking Fox broadcast. Oi!
The Gas Face. Go AJ!
!
Encouraging start from A.J.
[1] yeah i am not ready for them yet (really ever, but certainly not yet).
thanks alex for updating the schedule on the sidebar.looks good in the gray box. and nice touch with the pitching match up for wednesday :}
[1] even worse, i have to deal with Chip "Fister" Caray on the local Braves games. ugh.
fox should take a page from the 4-letter network and get rid of their own jon/joe terrible twosome.
Me likey.
Beautiful, Alex!
Sweet start! Totally forgot about game. How'd aj look in top half?
[4] yeah, i'm glad the sidebar is back - someone brought it up in a thread yesterday, i believe - and i love the "fuckface" for glass carl.
i don't however love the font/color - it's difficult to read. i don't love the "host" thing, either. plus, it would be nice to list the tv airings, as well. i believe Cliff used to do that here. definitely helps to know if it's on national tv!
(sorry to nitpick...)
[8] another reason to list the tv airings! : )
GREAT start! make it stand up, AJ...
So very happy baseball is back.
[10] trying this from iPad and it's tricksy to get used to toolbar. Yeah this was totally my fault though. I knew but got busy building wardrobe thing. Liking the 3-0 lead!
[12] nice, dude. i won't be able to watch much, i have an outta state gig i have to drive to...
[13 I bet you'll dig this. It's pretty damn funny.
http://mlbalwaysepic.mlb.com/alwaysepic/brianwilson/#
[13] must not be too far out of state if its tonight Eh? Have a good gig. You coming to PA this year?
A three spot. How nice.
Wow, the new Gameday sure is pretty.
[14] ha! i'm not quite sure what to think of that! it is kinda funny. that beard is really sorta scary though! i'm pretty clean cut for a long-hair, if that makes any sense...
[15] yeah, it's a nice little mountain in NC, only 2 hours away... PA - hope so! nothing confirmed yet. i'll be sending out emails to folks sometime this month. if it happens, it's gonna be the last weekend in June...
very nice, allan james!
not very nice, allan james...
[18] ok cool. When you know let me know. I'm pretty excited as I'll be at Yankee stadium for first time since 1989 in July!
Aj looks like aj lol. Good stuff sometime too wild.m
Nice 4 ks!
see [19]
[22] actually, i was thinking AJ looks a bit like RJ/Big Unit. in the face. ugly bird looking like people...
[21] nice.
[25] indeed with the ugly bird looking like people thing!
good work.
So what do folks thnk of the Martin pickup?
[28] sorry but wasn't paying attention when it happened I don't think. Or if I did I forget lol
Ah yes I like gritner on the base paths!
Yeah gritner!
see [31]!
Wow I thought he was out but probably a nice call
Oh fuck yeah!!!
WHOOHOOOOOOO TEIX!!!
oh, fuck yeah! that was BEAUTIFUL!!!
Oh my, Tex!
Woot. Pile it on, boys.
Wow. That was a well-struck ball.
Early season slump this, BITCH
FOX can bite me.
[41] It's unbearable to listen to right now.
Nice throw, dude.
i'd love to cash this run in...
[41] it's remarkable how piss poor tim/joe are. i'm amazed they're still working. this is beyond brutal...
[42] I have it on mute, but that ADD-inspired loop of the popcorn is just beyond lame.
Hi all. Fox Sports=rude awakening.
ooh, i hope swish didn't hurt himself at all on that swing. he seemed to be wincing and shaking his right arm...
[46] yeah, i'm about to go in the kitchen to eat and listen to the braves game on the radio...
yanks looking very good.
tigers looking very bad.
buck/timmy awful beyond belief.
and we have them again next sat.
Timmah! please stop with the Inge - VCU comments. It's getting tedious.
you'll have that. nice rip by ajax...
Nerts, there goes the shutout.
Eh. Here it is. Hit it. Beats walking him with a 6-0 lead.
I don't mind too much. Always liked Ajax. I was bummed when he was traded.
Aj off aj. Hmmm
i hope Curtis goes 20-20 this year. 30-20, would be even nicer!
I miss Michael Kay.
Ack. It's back to the popcorn story. Kill me now.
Hot Damn. Martin is The Aj Whisperer.
OK... I'm here. We can have fun now.
Hey... who's the new guy pitching so well?
and the wheels come off in the 5th...
Just AJ being AJ.
Get this midget to ground into a dp.
Phew!
[60] The jury is still out if such a creature even exists. AJ is like a pitching succubus, whole slowly drains his catchers of all ability to block balls in the dirt, call the proper pitch, etc.
Yankees games = slow.
Yankees games on FOX = slower
Yankees games on FOX with instant replay = even slower still.
Sweeeeeeeet.
I could get to like this Martin fellow.
The moment they announced the Martin signing, I knew he'd be valuable to the club. Really. Honestly.
[71] It was a brilliant get by Cashman. With Jorge, Brains, Jesus and Lettuce, who thought Cashman would go after a Catcher?
As much as I want to see Montero in the Bigs, he's better off with another year at AAA. And with Martin, so are the Yankees.
Opps, that should be [70]
[71] Although I do admire the comment.
Happy New Year everyone!
Nothing like the feeling of a new Baseball season.
[66} AJ the catcher's succubus is as funny as the truth.
I'm digging Russell Martin. I wonder what the resident lyricist on Yankee's radio conjured up for the HR call?
A man with no arms or legs in a pile of leaves is called Russell, but a man with no arms or legs flying over the fence is called Homer.
Russell was a favorite of Vin Scully, that goes a long way.
Did you guys read that at the Giants-Dodgers opener in LA, some Dodger fans beat the crap out of a Giants fan. The guy is in critical condition with 'severe head injuries'.
A lot of REALLY fucked up people in this country.
[75] It's usually the Giant's fans who torture Dodger's fans. I guess The World Champion SF Giants has stirred the bile in the trailer trash LA types (there are quite a few).
[71] Yup.
[75] Heard that, just awful.
Another Garage Door SHOT for Arod!
ARod makes a boom-boom!
There's a joke somewhere about 10 cent head and I why I will always like AJ. But since this a family blog I will refrain. : )
Hey all!
I've been watching but only just got an internet connection.
Lots of runs. That's a good antidote to AJ "the frustrator" Burnett.
Oy.
Catching the last few innings on mlb.com TV (no more international blackouts!)
But man, Joe & Timmah are awful..surely many complaints about this in the game thread, havn't read it yet.
Tex almost went yard again!
"The market for left handed relievers was thin."
Then don't sign one.
Oopsies!
Buck just flat out made that up
[86] you mean threading Cano, to Mays, to Brian Cashman,to Terry Cashman, to The Duke?
He will wake up and wince when that replays in his mind.
Nice to see the Tigers are honoring my dog this year.
[87] Swisher's Sac Fly on Thursday
Get Mo up.
boooooooooooooooo
Did JoeBuck just say "coming up on FOX, 'Cops' and 'America's Most Wanted'"??? Did I wake up in 1995???
9th innings that begin with 5 run leads and end with Mo are fucking bullshit.
Uh, boy. No lead is ever safe, I guess.
His Moness.
Thanks be to Mo.
And now, hoops.
Also, this Red Sox game is almost as much fun as the Yankee game. Lackey is getting the snot beat out of him.
Slow hook there from Francona costs them, Grand Salami for Beltre!
Great to see the 2011 WS champs get off to such a hot start!
[97] Great minds, RIYank-san :)
Heh. Hi there, Mr OK Jazz. It's been too long!
Yeah, also the IBB so they could face Beltre with the bases juiced.
[98] Wait, you meant the AL champs, I assume...
Also, I love the ERA battle among the Sox pitchers.
Lester: 8.44
Lackey: 22.09
Bard: 54.0
[101] That IBB was surprising..just a slip-up by Tito I guess.
Nah, I was being facetious, everyone has already picked Boston as the 2011 WS champs so.. guess that wasn't clear. I'm out of Banter practice.
Lackey kind of stinks, if Beckett doesn't bounce back the Sox rotation will be in trouble. Sox and Yanks seem almost perfectly even this year, I really don't see how they are that much of a favorite.
[102] Oh, right, 2011.
I'm slightly blurry. I'm in a hotel lounge, drinking.
Lackey does stink, doesn't he?
I agree, the Sox are more of a 'media darling' than a genuine favorite. David Pinto ran down various serious prediction tools and gave the Yankees a very slight edge (like less than one expected win). Of course, two games in hand will help. (Knock on wood.)
More homers for the Rangers. We play them in the middle of this month. A little scary.
Is there something wrong with me that I enjoy a Boston loss like this as much, if not more, then today's Yankee win?
[104] That's what destroying the competition is all about.
