It is chilly today in the Bronx. Big Pelf against the kid Nova. I can’t call it but you know I’ll be rootin’ hard:
Let’s Go Yank-ees!
1. Jeter SS
2. Granderson CF
3. Teixeira 1B
4. Rodriguez 3B
5. Cano 2B
6. Posada DH
7. Gardner LF
8. Dickerson RF
9. Cervelli C

wait a couple of days, the heat will come to you. Too hot to do anything today except lie on the couch, watch the Yankees and drink homemade lemonade.
1) Got a good recipe for that lemonade you can share?
Fuck Pelfrey. Hope they kick his ass.
It's simmering here in St. Louis. I'm really enjoying it, though -- still cool and grey in New England.
[2] Peel two lemons, then cut them up (to remove the seeds). Throw them in a blender, mine's got a couple of preprogrammed settings, I use the timed food chop setting. Then I blend in 4 cups of water and 2/3 cup of sugar. Pour into a pitcher and add another 4 cups of water (I use filtered water.) I like having the pulp in there, there's more nutrition.
Rule is 1 lemon + 4 cups water + 1/3 cup of sugar, not too sweet but does take away the worst of the sourness.
Nice catch, Brett!
4) Awesome, thanks.
Like the way Nova is throwing so far.
He's really keeping them off balance so far. Except for that hard line drive, of course.
Wow, nice backwards K.
Well DONE young man
Nice inning, Ivan.
(And a propos of nothing (other than good pitching, I suppose), I miss Andy.)
Jesus Christ.
Curtis!
Nova is a natural for a Sunday.
Cervelli? Dickerson? Small ball in order?
Don't tell Granderson.
Curtis is THE MAN!
Those fucking hands of his.
No way! I found the game on TBS just in time!
Fuck the HR. I want AJax back!
[17] Thpppppppp!
[6] Feel free, everyone, to experiment. Maybe add a lime or berries (strawberries?)
Vodka is strictly optional, as I drink this during the day and may want to do some woodworking in the evening, I keep it out. Tablesaws & alcohol don't mix well.
I guess Teix will never go to the opposite field? Those weak, topped grounders on outside pitches are not pretty.
What was that shit, Teix?
[20] Giambi 2.0.
Curtis kind of looks like Mattingly on those inside pitches, actually. Just such electric hands.
Good fucking hustle, Alex!
[22] Right, just what we need, a Giambi-like age 31 season from Teix. OPS+ up near 200? No thanks!!!
[25] Sigh. He can't do both and be even better?
[26] I know, it's unconscionable. Character flaw. Selfish, stubborn.
:-) We play this game every season, don't we?
Hahhaha
He deserves to be punished.
Severely.
I love watching Alex go after those! The way he just sort of threw has hands up. So futile.
It's endearing to see someone with all that talent show himself a little goofy now and again. Provided, of course, the situations are low-leverage.
[28] I bet Tex likes to be punished.
I don't understand why the Mets wouldn't keep Reyes. Is it that he's injury-prone?
[30] :)
[31] He is, and he'll be expensive, and will insist on a long contract. I think that's the only reservation they have.
Crud.
Why the FUCK did Martinez run back to second?
Crap.
Need a DP here.
Jeez, what a difference an inning makes. Although they aren't exactly crushing Nova.
[35] He thought Rob was headed to the bag for a throw? He did look stupid doing it.
[37] A hard single past a not-even-diving Jeter, a bloop and a hard line drive.
He's all right.
Damn it.
[37] What a difference a Bay makes?
Oh fer...
Cheap crap. But the runs still count.
bollocks inning.
He did look a bit excited, kind of yipsy.
Are you NYers watching TBS?
FUCK!
Fug.
[45] YES, why?
Oh, for FUCK'S sake!!!!
Jesus!!!!!!!!!!
They had him. Oy.
Nice high heat.
[45] Blacked out here.
[48] YES, not 'yes'?
Just wondering whether I'm listening to Ron Darling. I think so.
This isn't good.
That felt like a long inning.
[53] Third base!
Three small ball runs for the Mets. If the Yanks did both styles of offense depending on the situation...
[57] They'd win a hundred games.
Wos, Pelfrey's still just 27?
wow, i mean, not wos
Foul?
Fuck. 2 damn feet.
Oy, foul.
Why did Derek throw that ball?
Opposite field hitting just seems so powerful. It frustrates the pitchers, keeps the defense off guard, and just shows the skill of batsmanship.
Is Kevin Long losing control, or is he the reason everything is pulled?
That's what I was taught, that you had to turn right and not left...
How are you not on the same page? WTF!
[65] I'm telling you, I see other teams do it and it drives me insane. It reminds you it's actually possible, not some mysterious talent possessed by a select few.
Nice pitch, Nova.
Good work, Nova.
Good work, Derek.
[68] I know Ichiro is a class of one, but his skill of using his bat like a tennis racket is remarkable, and should be encouraged.
That's a stupid answer by Girardi.
[72] You don't have to tell me.
[72] I've been thinking a little about this, actually, about how there used to be .300 hitters and 30 homerun guys and they were only rarely the same guy.
It seems like what's happened is that being a high-average hitter, as a career path, is simply not available anymore.
I don't know, I haven't researched it or anything, but I have to think something's going on in player development somewhere where the art of playing pepper, etc., simply isn't taught as it must have been once.
[74] Not telling, agreeing with you. ✌
[72] And I always go back to Dave Winfield, who went from hitting .280 with 32 HR (or whatever his averages were) to hitting .340 with 19 HR.
He did that by changing his approach. Now, you can debate whether that was wise or not, but it shows you just how much potential control over such things these guys actually have.
[76] I know. :)
Was Reyes even running hard?
Oh no.
I saw that whole thing unfolding.
Ohhh, Jorgie.
[79] I know, I thought the same thing. Looked like he quit halfway down the line.
He might have made it had he actually reached the base on that "slide."
Nova's pitching another fine game.
Sure would be nice if the team could score some runs.
Enough of this shit, now. Let's get some fucking runs.
Horrible approach by the Mets. Three hits and no runs. This small-ball approach is just not enough. If they're going to get to the playoffs, they'll have to go yard.
Well that was a nice nap. Here's hoping the Yankee bats wake up too.
Ouch, Don. Get well. You too Gary.
Funny how every mediocre to poor pitcher pitches a surprisingly great game against us.
Excruciating.
Wow!
Fabulous play!
Jesus.
Major league ballplayers, ladies and gentlemen.
Nice performance, Nova.
Ok, come on now, Yankees...
Fuck, he'd better not bunt.
OWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!
OMG.
Yeowch, Frankie.
Jesus Christ.
God, I hope he's okay. As if catchers don't take enough punishment.
Fuck, I thought that got him in the face.
Jesus, baseball is dangerous.
That really was scary. Could have been devastating.
Come on, Derek...here we go...
[99] It is! Dangerous, and difficult.
YAAAYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, that was beautiful, absolutely beautiful!!!!!
Okay, Weeping, I'm on your side now.
God, that was beautiful.
Hey, that's one of them hits with a runner in scoring position! They aren't extinct after all.
Of course, the fact that it was Jeter makes it beautifuler.
[104] Heehee!
It was beautifuller, wasn't it?
Good for Derek!
I'll take a walk and a double now. Nothing like a bases loaded double. Mmmmmm.
Why is our best hitter bunting?
Oh come on.
Ugh. I really, really hate that. Damn.
Oh well, at least it was a successful sac. Yuck.
Ohhhhh...
Now I get it! Encouraging the only managerial move I hate more than the sac bunt! :-)
C'mon Alex, get it in the air and out into the outfield, Hoss.
Hah!
I'll take it. No complaints!
Wow!
How 'bout that!
Wow.
Rob will not hit a dribbler.
Yaaayyyyyy!!!
Oh too sweet, too sweet.
Sweet Rob.
Ahhhhhhhh.
Hey, I like this.
Launch it, Jorgie!
Now where is my [108] bases loaded double???
That's a strike?
Damn.
He was right, must be absolutely infuriating when that happens.
Po was robbed, and given a lot a leeway to argue, seems the ump had second thoughts.
But...scoring runs with smallish ball.
Huh, I think I'd PH for Brett here, against the lefty. We shall see...
Wowww!!!
Nice hit, Brett!!!!!
YAY!!!!
There it is! Not a bases-clearing double, but pretty freaking close.
Oh, Brett, you did it!!!!
[121] You ask, you shall receive.
Opposite Field Double! {121} you called it.
Oh, how I hope this is the start of something big...
And does this mean Nova can get the W?
This is reminding me of what the Cubbies did to Boston last night.
Hits with RISP. Interesting in theory and reality.
Is it greedy to want a nice single here to finish them off? It would be so tidy.
"That's baseball, Suzyn."
[130] No, he left with a 3-1 deficit. Still a good outing by him.
[133] Yes, it would!
Finish them!!
HA!!!
It fell!
[130] No, Ivan left with two out, remember?
Oh hohhhohohohoho!
It was greedy, but my greed was satisfied. Yum! So tasty!
[133] Ask and you shall receive.
[131] Oh, but the Red Sox contributed so much crappy defense to that inning. This is different. Sure, lots of cheap hits, but not embarrassing for the Mets, the way last night was for the Sox.
[137] He did, but isn't he still eligible? No, I guess not. That sucks.
Nova can get the win, Mo can rest.
Uh. [139] Spoke too soon!
Okay, maybe!
Hahahahah!!
[139] Crappy defense!
No, gentlemen, Nova can't get the win. Had he finished the top of the seventh he could have. Ayala is now in line for the W. A vulture W, I guess.
[137] Ooops, you're right; Nova can't get the win.
Strikes, Luis. Strikes.
Attaboy.
It's stupid that Nova's not eligible for the win.
The official scorer should have the power to assign the W to its proper earner.
[149] It's kind of a stupid stat.
Strikes, Luis. Strikes. Yes, like that! Good man.
[151] You just say that because you have zero W.
Ok, good work, boys.
Keep it up.
Nice win.
