As I was waiting to take a plane this morning from Tampa, I passed Cash getting off on his way to the office for the draft. I chose not to ruin his day by mentioning that the Rays have a boatload of early choices including the one for Soriano. He got a coffee at Starbucks and went on his way.
[2] Hideously, thanks.
I think maybe we all forgot, when Cashman Levine signed Soriano, that it was costing the team it's highest draft picks. Anyway, I did.
I guess I'm in the minority, but I still have a hard time getting excited about the MLB draft. This is not the NBA or the NFL, where there is a chance for immediate impact. The odds are against just about everyone ever making the major leagues; those that do won't see the light of day for a minimum of two to three years, or likely longer.
Now I agree that it's important, it's how you build a system, but I just find it hard to get excited when so many players miss, and when sixth and seventh round draft choices often have better careers than first rounders.
Kevin Goldstein:
51. Yankees: Dante Bichette, Jr., 3B, Orangewood Christian HS (FL). Kid can hit, even looks like his dad, but does he have other tools?
keithlaw:
I laughed. Jr. didn't make my top 100 (report: http://es.pn/jJzYLw )RT @jslyuan: Yanks realize it's not actually Dante Bichette right?
keithlaw:
Wait till you see the hack. RT @Bloogart7: @keithlaw Yikes, just saw footage of Bichette running. Not impressed.
Jim Bowden:
Dante has the bloodlines...power hitter...can hit .....loves the cage....I guess he's not going to Georgia now....should develop into a below avg LF...but bat and pwr will play....GREAT make-up

Yeah, I've super excited for the draft the last few years, but now, with NY not picking until 51, I probably won't even bother watching.
Thanks a whole lot Levine and Steinbros.
How's that 3 year deal for Soriano working out so far???

Meanwhile, there's a pennant race to be won.
Hockey is a bizarro world. Or Canada. Canada is sort of a reverse-bizarro world. Or maybe Canada is normal and we live in bizarro world.
"Or maybe Canada is normal and we live in bizarro world."
DINGDINGDINGDING! Correct!
Yanks pick Dante Bichette Jr.
Well, Jim Bowden liked the pick ....
Not a good sign.
